When you’re surrounded by so much death the mind becomes numb with shock. We have been so desensitized to violence that after awhile some deaths turns out to be pretty funny in retrospect. Or at least for those who see the incident from the outside. Then there are examples that shock you with just how stupid they truly are. Not unlike the 1950s USA instructional film that told school children to duck and cover in case of an Atom Bomb attack, the rampant spread of misinformation astounds us.

When FEMA Region 6 sent us this film found in their archives, neither of us could be certain of the date of this film. Clearly the government has been preparing for the event of a zee outbreak for some time. Tragically much like the atom film of the 50s, this film also has misinformation, especially regarding fire and zees. In fact setting fire to zees is a great way to eliminate groups if you are not concerned about unchecked and uncontrolled wild fire afterwards. When in an environment that is dry, zee bodies tend to light up like kindling. However I digress from the main points of the film that are sure to be enjoyed by all.

I give you the seventh episode of Zombie Survival Bloopers:

Well, we finished our very first film – the training exercise video, Right & Wrong Accordi

Well, we finished our very first film – the training exercise video, Right & Wrong According to Professor Wright, for work. Yeah, it’s a movie for work so we can’t post it online, but it’s still very much ours, as I wrote and acted in it, and Katie directed. We also got help from a co-worker, Steven, who supplied the camera, lights & audio. He was an enormous help to the production of the film. Our Mr. King held the boom mic (I did in a scene as well).

The movie is set up sort of like an old horror film – opening credits with a creepy score by Kevin McLeod and then cuts to the mad professor’s laboratory, complete with spider webs, a human skull and hamster. What kind of weird experiments are going on here? On the white board behind the professor reads the two most important words of the film: Right or Wrong?

The rest of the movie explores behavior in certain capacities as two examples – Johnny and Suzie – act out how, or how not, to behave at work. A lot of it is specific to the employer it’s for so the common audience may be confused at points. Nonetheless, it’s chock full of our sense of humor and interests, like mad professors and plot twists. There’s also a little dance number at the end where Suzy, Johnny, the Professor & Mr. King get happy feet to the “Monster Mash”.

Right & Wrong… was filmed in two days. We actually shot the entire movie in 4 hours but had to reshoot all of my scenes because the original audio was muffled. For the reshoots, Steven was able to bring in a wireless mic, so the Professor’s scenes now have the clearest audio. It makes sense, because he (or I) has the most dialog.

The movie was edited in just two sessions (about 4 hours each). Editing was done by Steven (again, he supplied the software), with assistance from myself & K. Steven also created the DVD menu for the film, which is quite brilliant.

That’s about it for now…just excited that we actually completed something. Our narrative independent movies are next. But even before those, K & I have some awesomeness in store for the internet. More details coming soon…

Business card designed and screen-printed by Steve'n' Stu for promotion of Stevie's prem

Business card designed and screen-printed by Steve'n' Stu for promotion of Stevie's premium boutique Chateau de McCabe coffee wine range (see love potion below).

The design effectively simulates a chromic equivalent of the liver-crippling psychedelic effects experienced from guzzling one dose (500ml or 1 pint) of sweet, yeasty, speedy caffeine-infused Chateau de McCabe. Screen-printed at INK INC, sky blue on ƒluoro orange card c.1984.

Click below to see the quasi-instructional film “Drink For The Heart, Heart For The Road”, the soundtrack of which is the McCabe ditty of the same name. (This is probably the Fassbinderesque peak of Lawrence Lens’s celluloid involvement with AXEMEN).

The “how to” theme of 1985′s “Screen Printing” is carried over and combined with priceless historical reportage and hallucinatory fantasy scenes at McCabe’s unsanitary pad in Christchurch. His school-boy beginnings as a backyard brewer have by this stage guaranteed a constant supply of 1.5 litre (3 pint) “sleek botts” bulging with a murky form of liquid amphetamine (a.k.a. coffee wine).

McCabe reclining at Château de McCabe amongst the sleek botts.

Occasionally (due to fancy, budgetary constraints, or experimental urges), frozen free-flow carrots, peas and corn were also utilised. But it was the “Chateau de McCabe” coffee wine which jump-started the boys after a pre-gig snooze on the dance-floor during the previous act; the legendary slurry* powered them through many glorious gigs up and down the emerald isles.
