As the weather turns cold in Clarksville TN we start to think about what we can do to keep the inside of our homes warmer. I am on the hurt for some insulated drapes for the bedroom today. I also came across some curtain rods that actually stand 5″ from the wall but allow the drapes to curve around and practically seal off the light and drafts that can leak through window cracks. While its good to let your house ‘breath’ a little by not having everything sealed tight, the bedroom is one place I like to stay warm. Our master suite happens to be the farthest from the output of our heating unit and over the garage. So it tends to be colder than the rest of the upstairs. I am hoping insulated drapes on the wrap-around rods will help keep the bedroom warm at night. Also rugs on hardwood floors in the winter will add some warmth.
As for the rest of the house, I came across this article that will give you some tips. http://ezinearticles.com/?5-Home-Insulation-Tips-That-Can-Save-You-Lots-of-Money&id=97409
Stay tuned for more tips on how to keep your home warm in the winter!
Don’t forget to market your homes insulating factors when listing it for sale.

Insulation played a significant part in a target-beating reduction of domestic energy consumption, according to regulator Ofgem.

The installation of insulation helped eight energy providers beat government targets of cutting household energy use by 130TWh in the three years to March 31st as part of the Energy Efficiency Commitment (EEC).

Energy firms exceeded their EEC obligation by cutting consumption by 187TWh during the second phase of the programme, having already surpassed their targets in the first phase of the scheme, which ran from 2002 to 2005.

The single biggest contributor to the cuts was found to be insulation.

“Nearly 60 per cent of the energy savings achieved under EEC2 2005-2008 came from the installation of insulation measures. Over 10 per cent was achieved in lighting, with heating and appliances making up the remainder,” Ofgem reported.

British Gas, EDF Energy, npower, Opus Energy, Powergen, ScottishPower, Scottish & Southern Energy and Telecom Plus now go into the EEC successor, Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) carrying over the surplus savings.
