Well, for the most part, there are thousands of people that use My Space everyday. I’ve had two recent profiles on this marketing tool and well, let’s say my network was growing, but it’s like everyone that I basically was networking with didn’t use thier My Space account. Now in the year of 2007, My Space was buzzing with traffic, but I do understand that most people are now on Facebook. There are many gospel artists that are touring and the author world is definitely moving to Facebook. I do have a Facebook account and I’m not about to delete it anytime soon. I mean, last night in marketing class with Pam Perry, I learned a good deal of info about how to really use the tool that I never knew existed before. Last night in marketing class I also learned that My Space is mainly being used by musicians. I am a musician and do have an account, so I believe that is the only thing I’m going to use My Space for. I’m so busy now-a-days, like most authors and ministries, WE’RE either working on material to release, ministering, or networking. So is My Space really dwindling?

On December 9 YouTube CEO & co-founder, Chad Hurley, announced the video-sharing site is currently working on building a better search function.

Whilst talking to LeWeb founder and blogger Loic Le Meur at the LeWeb, Hurley revealed that the next big change for YouTube would be improved discovery tools for videos and content creators on YouTube.

“We need a better search for YouTube,” said Hurley.

He explained that while YouTube gives everyone the chance to put their videos on the video-sharing site it can be difficult to locate relevant content.

Hurley said that YouTube’s search features need to make better use of consumers’ search history and watching habits to create a better experience for our users.

YouTube will also be working on getting people more involved in creating and uploading videos from their mobile devices. The company is also experimenting with a better delivery system for an on-demand TV service.

In addition, the video-sharing site will be ramping up their live broadcasts of large events. Hurley said they are hoping to stream one large event or concert per month whilst trying to make the video content as global as possible.

The future of YouTube will involve the site becoming more social. “We have a long way to go,” said Hurley. “This is just the tip of the iceberg.”

Every day there is something new. New technology can be a pain. My new cameras and computers are considered old school before I even get them out of their boxes. Then I have to figure out their latest twists. But when I do figure them out, I generally sit back and say “Oh yah that’s pretty cool.”

Today’s newspapers have also seen a lot of change in the last couple of years. They are learning to embrace new technologies and changing the way they meet our need for the news. How are the Lakers doing? Which presidential party will take us to ruin quicker? Or how many girlfriends a certain pro golfer has?

Little Jimmy is not going to be riding his bike down the street much longer tossing newspapers into your flowerbed. It is all about the internet and having the news delivered on your home computer, laptop or Iphone. While this takes a little getting use to, looking closer will reveal some pretty nice surprises.

Dave Argent Decorates Houses with Holiday Lights

Although lately I have been doing more work in the corporate world, I still enjoy taking freelance assignments from The Orange County Register. They are doing a series on people who are dealing with being out of work or having to reinvent themselves due to the economics of the time. I’ve recently been assigned to a couple of these stories. The Register wires the subject for sound, interviews them, shoot video and still photos and marry it all together for a beautiful presentation that allows you to view the subject through the eyes of a professional and hear the subject’s story in their own words with their own voice. Check out the future of internet news and this interesting series of articles.

Newspapers are not dead. They are just changing with the times. And, oh yah that’s pretty cool! If you’re thinking of having Holiday Lights installed for you, check out OC Holiday Lighting, which is featured in the article.

There have been some big, deep cuts in print newsrooms lately. USA Today, the Washington Times, Miam

There have been some big, deep cuts in print newsrooms lately. USA Today, the Washington Times, Miami Herald and the New York Times have all cut staff dramatically this year. While those major outlets have managed to stay afloat for now, local daily newspapers have been going under altogether. It’s mainly been print media that’s suffered the most, but local TV affiliates have also been axing staff lately.

Of course, the culprit is the Internet, with its on-demand and easy navigation to news that matters to the reader. But ease and instantaneousness isn’t the only reason the Internet is winning the media battle. The combination of accountability afforded through the Web interface and coverage of major events that matter to a lot of people rather than a few is yet another reason why national media outlets on the Internet are so easily overtaking local reporting. Even those local papers that have migrated largely to the Web haven’t found salvation there. And the local news blog site movement hasn’t exactly taken off. As much as it’s played a part in shaping the history of news reporting in America, local news is dying.

There are plenty of people who lament the loss of print media and local papers. I have a place in my heart for local weeklies, having written and edited for a couple in my past. But allow me point out an example of why the death of local news can be as sweet as Tim Tebow’s tears. A big thanks to Mr. Rob Sheppe, who sent me a link to an article on a man in Arizona who recently resigned from his job as the IT guy for a school district after he was found to have installed SETI@home on about 5,000 computers that belonged to the schools.

Here’s a brief synopsis: The IT guy was in charge of installing all of the software on new computers for the school district, I take it there were around 5,000 of them. As an added bonus he also downloaded a free software program called SETI@home, which uses donor computers’ processors to analyze in real time mountains of data provided from the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico.

The program runs in the background whenever the computer’s on, looking for any weak or diverse signals of non-natural background noise in deep space. In other words, SETI@home helps the SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) Institute suss out evidence of the extra terrestrial intelligence for which it searches.

Here’s how the local CBS affiliate in Phoenix reported it:

Headline: “Alien-hunting school employee resigns.”
The guy is a “hero in the alien seeking world” and an “alien seeker.”
The lede: “He searched for UFOs, aliens and creatures from outer space.”
And a quote from the school district superintendent, “As an educational institution we do not support the search for E.T.”

The article did mention the stated reason why the guy’s in hot water. The district estimates that since the computers were running the program 24 hours a day for 10 years, it has shelled out about an extra million bucks in utility bills and PC repairs. The superintendent also added that the computers were running slowly. (I can attest to this, having installed and ultimately ditched a similar program from Stanford, Folding@home, which runs protein folding sequences to get a better grip on how cancer, Alzheimer’s and other dread diseases originate.)

The guy’s wife tells the local news affiliate that her husband had permission from the last administration. We can also hardly assume that he went around to each school after hours to personally ensure all computers remained on. So the guy’s real crime here is slowing down school computers by about 30 percent. Still, he resigned his post and faces a possible lawsuit. He also becomes the weirdo alien hunter, thanks in large part to the local CBS station.

At no point did the article bother to mention that that SETI is an acronym (it referred to Seti throughout), what it stands for or that it’s a respected, well-funded scientific institute with ties to the JPL, NASA and just about every legitimate space venture on the planet.

It lacked research and appeared to be skewed against this guy without offering any explanation of what he was really up to. I dug a little further and after about 20 seconds of research, I found that the author of the article won an AP Reporter of the Year award in 2002, teaches advanced broadcast reporting at Arizona State University and reported on an Amtrak disaster in Alabama in 1993. Another few minutes later, I found that the Amtrak crash he covered took place on September 22, 1993. In a heavy fog, a barge hit a railroad overpass and distorted the bridge above minutes before Amtrak’s Sunset Limited passenger train came upon the bent tracks and derailed into Bayou Canot, in Saraland, Alabama. Forty-seven people died (five crew members and 42 passengers). It remains the worst accident in Amtrak history. I also had little trouble finding that the barge was owned by Warrior and Gulf Navigation Company, that CSX owned and maintained the railroad bridge and that Elvi Stevens, 69, of Orange City, Fla., suffered a broken leg in the wreck.

Research.

I’m not a space guy. I haven’t been a fan of NASA since I was a kid. I don’t believe that aliens crashed at Roswell. My point is not to defend the legitimacy of SETI or its research. My point is that there’s a guy in Arizona whose neighbors, thanks to a half-hearted report by his local CBS affiliate, now likely think he watches the skies, hangs out on weekends along the fence surrounding Area 51 and probably kind of liked the probing he got from the alien he believes abducted him for a tour of crop circles.

This is why local news is dying a fast, gushy death.

Communication is very important for the success of any business. Communication means the way of sharing information with others. It is essential to communicate with the potential customers in their own language for the success of the business. The possibility of a global market free of language barriers is still a goal to achieve in the foreign trade. Today it is easy to run a successful global business irrespective of the culture, language, politics or social situations with the help of translators. Translation in India is a very important service sector which invites millions of income to the country. The language market in India has expanded in the late nineties especially due to the innovation in communication technologies both on and offline. Many organizations including the travel and tourism sector find the translation services quite valuable. The need for translators and interpreters are high in foreign trade as well as for immigration.

In the global market, it is essential for a company to advertise their product in multiple languages. It is estimated that the Indian translation market is approximately $500 million due to the globalization of business. Many multinational companies are setting up businesses in India these days and they have realized the need to speak the local language to increase business. Many richest countries in the world are in the midst of recession these days. Despite global recession, the language translation industry has set forth big growth in India. Still many translation businesses and freelance translators have been affecting the impact of recession. As the global meltdown keeps affecting the industrial growth badly, the tourist inflow of the country has declined tremendously which indirectly affected the translation industry too.

Many companies have attempted to use their own employees who know a different language and capable of doing translation due to the recession. Still companies with international reputation need to have high quality translation to maintain their image to attract more business by spending the money to accommodate potential customers. Though the translation industry in India is growing, the lack of professionalism and commitment of many individual linguists have been affecting the quality of the final product. The translation is not limited to reaching potential customer only. Businesses generally find savings by using the native language of the country where they operate. Colleges are also using the service of translation agencies to translate their brochures and applications to attract international students. As more non-English users connect to the internet, businesses are realizing the importance of translate their product information in multiple languages.

Trade sources believe that the translation industry in India will be growing tremendously over the next 5 years fueled by demand for business in emerging market languages. Most of the clients are from outside of India who is showing interest in translating the related text into several widely spoken Indian languages. But due to the global recession, many companies who have taken the service of translators has cutting down the translation expenditure. The value of translation is difficult to ignore even during this global economy recession. Many top level businessmen believe that the translation company is going to get more growth as more companies are setting up global business.

A. Where do I get my news? In brief, I don’t want to hear what most newspapers, radio or TV news cas

A. Where do I get my news? In brief, I don’t want to hear what most newspapers, radio or TV news casts, or internet have to report. In the 1980’s, when I lived in San Francisco, I subscribed to the following print media: New York Times Sunday paper, The Village Voice, Drummer’s World, Out Of Control, and I read the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Reader, The Bay Times, and various neighborhood papers on a regular basis. There are 2 or 3 alternate papers which I subscribe to and receive via the US Post, whose names I will not include here.

For most part of my life I have found the local newspapers to be not much better than TV news. Certainly, there are more details included in a newspaper article, yet I find them incomplete, sensationalizing, product promotion oriented, and when not pushing such tripe, many of the stories are horrific in their bias. So here, I do not disagree with Lasch’s proposals that papers be bias, that they clearly state and argue opinions with evidence. In fact, I would rather because that is honesty. Honesty is grossly lacking in every aspect of the culture, politic, economy, education and social constructs of the United States. I don’t support it.

In the 1990’s, I was disabled for about 7 years, and could not hold a newspaper, so much of my news came from radio and late night TV. Currently, I will listen to NPR’s Wait, wait don’t tell me, and Craig Fergusen, Rachel Maddow, and see the “big story” on yahoo when I sign on to my email. Additionally, I have always read the Wallstreet Journal and periodically listen to AM600 (in San Diego, Ca) this is Rush Limbuagh (SP?).

The Wallstreet Journal is a good source to hear about new technology, new political or social issues, ecological news, gay and lesbian news, and any substantial world news of rebellion or disaster because all of these issues may affect money – or businesses ability to get money or keep money.

I listen to Rush Limbaugh for up-to-the-minute information about lesbian, gay, women’s or non-white communities; and any political opinions which oppose his or what he calls conservative. Why? Because he talks about things he’s afraid of, or can imagine being afraid of. I must qualify my listening to him these days. Since the election of President of the United States Obama, Rush has completely gone to the stupidly false information side. However, I’d rather hear information from Rush who clearly has biases, then to NPR since congress gave President Bush the okay to do whatever he wanted with US troops killing other people. Since that time NPR talks like they do when they’re supporting their hometown footbal or baseball team. Yes, they say they are supporting the troops, but if they were, they’d do more to provide accurate information. Re newsprint all of this information can be accessed online and that’s fine with me.

Rarely, these days, I will read a bit of my roommate’s paper -she subscribes to the San Diego Union daily- and it’s difficult for me. Even if the news reporting is unbiased, and fairly factual my dispute is often with the value placed upon a thing, the repetitiveness of reporting, and I see too much which is NOT said about that thing, or so much more news which is vital to the citizens which is not mentioned.

Here’s one example: the flood of coverage that child abuse cases receive (not all, but the “right” ones). Now it is important and horrible news, yes. However, I accuse these newspapers and other news media of furthering real child abuse when they 1) don’t clarify that 90% or so of child abusers are family members (read male, read father, brothers, etc); 2) many children have been abused by authority figures such as doctors, psychiatrists, and religious leaders; and by then, instead, focusing on the registered child abuser living in this or that neighborhood they are taking attention from informing children that what is being done to them by a family member is child molestation: you don’t have to be snatched off of the street in order for stuff that doesn’t feel right to the child, to be abuse.

SO in the case above, online stories are better because a person such as myself – in fact, me – may directly comment on that article and have it read (maybe) by any other person reading the article. This feels like empowered citizenry to me.

If I am intentionally seeking news I will use the internet in several ways.

Sometimes I hear rumor of something that I want to know about, say from a radio station, talk at school or work, or TV. In this case I will go online and first do a simple search for the article and also for the topic from other news sources. If this is not a local matter I will go to BBC, freespeachtv.com, primarily to see what they have. Sometimes I will seek news from a specific country in which an event happened. This all depends upon how interested I am in the news. This is related directly to how much it affects me personally. That sounds narrower than it is, because I have a great interest in a wide variety of things from music, women and music, historical discoveries, science, international disasters and remedies, new technology… on and on.

If a news event which interests me is local I will search local papers online, unless the event had occurred within the last few hours than the local TV and radio stations may break their regular broadcasts to give more information, for example, local explosions, earthquakes, fires, etc.

It’s critical to have a consciousness about the huge differences in interpretations which appear as a news story gets further, and further from home. A good example is when my friends from Northern California or out-of-state call me to see how I’m doing in the huge fire; but this fire is in Los Angeles area and I’m in San Diego. I don’t as a rule pursues news stories as much as I look for clarifying facts and, I admit, I read between the lines more readily than most people I encounter.

What do I value about internet news sites? Internet news sites that one can determine is rather accurate are amazingly powerful. The very idea that I can be in San Diego and actually access much of the world’ events is great. Of course, it’s not the same as being there, sometimes it is much better.

What is the future of news print and journalism? I hope the future of the news is to become more honest about their opinions, more thorough in their investigations, and somehow be courageous again.

I still place importance on Newspapers:

I hope that neighborhoods continue to value the small local papers that one can pick-up and hold while being out in their neighborhoods. I think that the internet is the best way to gather together a better view of an event, if you have the time. Another great aspect of internet news is the ability by any citizen reader to add their comment, but this should be divided into categories of the type of person that takes time to write, “Interesting article, I liked it” vs those who have additional information or experience with the particular news and can add it to the worldwide database.

Another obvious reason for newspapers is immediate access to information without technology. Even if newspapers are put onto e-books or phones. For many of us these are too small. I like the physical contact with print and the total visual arrangement so that I can choose what I’m looking at and why.

The world in which we live is becoming more globalized due to the advent of technology such as Internet, IP telephony, satellite TV, fax machines and mobile phones. This globalization has brought together many disparate cultures. The most important manifestation of this cross cultural interaction has been the sudden increase in the need for bilingual and multilingual personnel. One of the first barriers that companies and translation agencies face on the path of globalization is the differences in natural languages. The significant changing in the world and growing interdependence make the linguistic needs tremendously. But it is true that language in international business remains an ignored research field. Global trade and corporate globalization requires that companies communicate in many languages and dialects. One of the main challenges facing by the owners of international business in their organizational structure is the language barrier. The mixing of different cultures, languages and faith makes a total complexity in the world. Intercultural communication is vital for the success of international business. English has become the major language in European politics, business and trade even though it competes with other languages such as Spanish, Arabic and French.

A large number of translation companies around the world are crossing national borders to conduct business. Language barriers often come up immediately and affect the small business world from its development internationally. In the business world, it is a necessity to use the service of interpreters. Interpreters are trained professionals in specific languages allowing you to speak in your native language and assist in overcoming cross cultural differences. If you want effective global operations for your international business, it is necessary to find a good translator to translate your business language into that which your foreign operations understand. The translation process prevents the language barrier and brings employees of your international company closer together. Communication is the key to create a more cohesive organization in the international business and speed and accuracy of the translation is very important.

For a successful global trade, it is always require professional writing in foreign languages for all communications with the international clients. The translator can handle the translation with accuracy and it must be able to communicate the message into the native language in the most accurate and fastest way possible. When a company enters into the international business scenario, they need huge quantities of market research. All international businesses need native language translators. The development of professional translation software can help tremendously in international market research and translation services too. International business involves the dealing with people from different cultures in a way that minimizes misunderstandings and maximizes potential to create strong cross cultural relationships. Open communication necessary for global business success. Translated documents are appropriate in the market in which you are doing business. To overcome language barriers to effective communication it is necessary to learn as much as possible about the people and their culture and that will help to communicate its members. In the current situation the markets are globalized and industrial people do business in different countries the translation and interpretation services are more important.
