Project C.H.A.N.C.E. Afterschool Program held a Lights On Afterschool rally on Thursday, October 22 at 3pm. The rally was one of more than 7,500 such events around the nation that day, the ninth annual Lights On Afterschool celebration, organized by the Afterschool Alliance. California Governor Arnold Schwarenegger is Chair of Lights On Afterschool again this year. Speakers in Wilmington called for expanding afterschool opportunities so that every child who needs a program has access to one, and discuss the harm that results from budget cuts and freezes.

Participants in the Lights On Afterschool rally included Jack Markell, Lt. Governor, Matthew Denn, Wilmington Mayor, James Baker, State Senator Harris B. McDowell, County Executive, Christopher Coons, as well as local business leaders, educators and other officials. The event highlighted three of the significant contributions that afterschool programs make to Wilmington: keeping kids safe and healthy, inspiring them to learn, and relieving working parents of worries about their children’s activities during the afternoon hours. Hundreds of parents, supporters and community members are expected to attend.

Project C.H.A.N.C.E. opened in 2001 with a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant from the U.S. Department of Education. It now serves 200 children, providing homework assistance, mentoring, tutoring, clubs in sports, recreation, mathematics, and dozens of other subjects. The program is an integral part of Red Clay Consolidated School District and a significant number of supporting partners.

One of the advantages of network marketing is the fact that you can work at home and work on your ow

One of the advantages of network marketing is the fact that you can work at home and work on your own time schedule. This fact is particularly useful if there are reasons that you have difficulty working a standard eight to five work day or have difficulty working in a “traditional” office setting. People with attention deficit sometime fall into this category. Often it is not that they can’t work under those circumstances, they would just prefer to be a little more flexible.

If you have been in network marketing any length of time, you might recognize that that you often find people with an abundance of energy in this business. Of course, they do not all have diagnosed hyperactivity, but it is a personality trait that is very useful in the network marketing business.

Network marketing takes upbeat, positive energy. Since a great deal of network marketing is dealing with people, it takes a lot of energy. You have to be up most of the time. You have to be able to keep yourself and your team motivated—and this sometimes means putting your energy in overdrive. Suddenly that trait that drove your teacher crazy is a great asset. Take advantage of it!

Network marketing often changes. This keeps someone with attention deficit from getting bored. You don’t’ have to worry about anything being mundane for very long. There are always new products to learn about, new training to listen to, and changes in the compensation plan, and new people in your company. There is always sometime new to keep your attention-and you like it that way!

No one in your upline will think it is strange if you are very enthusiastic and talk 90 miles an hour. In fact, they will like it. Plus you can pace around your room while you are on the phone, no one will notice or care. You can also pace around while you are listening to training, on a conference call, pretty much while you are doing anything. (A web conference might be a little distracting, but luckily there probably wont’ be too many of those!)

Your network marketing business is exactly that—your business. You can run it anyway you want. You can do it your pajamas. You control your time. If you want to work your business for 15 minutes or three hours, it is all okay! Network marketing is a business that can use what may have been a problem for you into an opportunity with many of the necessary traits built in.

The worldwide IPTV market will see strong growth over the next five years and total 57mn IPTV homes by 2013, or triple the end-2008 figure, according to a new report from Informa Telecoms & Media.

The worldwide IPTV market will see strong growth over the next five years and total 57mn IPTV homes by 2013, or triple the end-2008 figure, according to a new report from Informa Telecoms & Media.

Penetration is expected to remain fairly low however, with only 4% of the world’s TV households forecast to subscribe to IPTV services by 2013, according to the new report, called ‘IPTV: A Global Analysis – 4th Edition’. Simon Murray, report author and Principal Analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media, commented: “This fairly limited penetration comes from having to migrate subscribers away from long-established cable and DTH services, as well as the impact of DTT to a lesser extent. However, there are examples of IPTV gaining a foothold even in the most competitive markets.”

The report forecasts that there will be 18.6mn IPTV households by the end of this year, up 8mn from last year, with Asia Pacific and Western Europe each responsible for nearly 3mn of the additions, and North America adding 1.7mn. Much of the growth forecast is expected to come from Asia Pacific, which is expected to become the world’s largest IPTV market by 2010, and by 2013 the APAC region will contribute 22.2mn of the 57mn global total. China alone is expected to have crossed the 10mn subscribers mark.

The US is expected to not be too far behind China in terms of subscriber numbers by 2013, while France will remain the largest market in Europe, although growth is expected to slow as IPTV concentrates in urban areas, and the country is expected to have 4.9mn IPTV homes by 2013, compared to 3.6mn at the end of 2008.

The number of households worldwide with access to Internet video on their TV is projected to reach 300mn by the end of 2013, according to the report, entitled ‘IPTV: Beyond Telco TV’, raising equipment revenues of US$ 32bn.

“We can expect more CE manufacturers to incorporate web video into their products during the first half of 2009,” said Shane Walker, Research Analyst at IMS Research and author of the report. “Recently we have seen the incorporation of online video into popular devices such as game consoles, the TiVo, Blu-ray players, and flat-panel TVs. In addition, several dedicated Internet video set-top boxes, such as Roku or Vudu have recently become available”.

In our quest to continually bring information to our readers on the latest technologies available to

In our quest to continually bring information to our readers on the latest technologies available to aid you in marketing your business, today we present another idea that’s beginning to gain traction for small businesses. Thanks to technology, anyone today can be a “TV star” by hosting your own online television show to promote your business – and, you may even be able to make money doing it!

Below is an article from Business Week which reviews this latest marketing ‘tool’ and talks to small business owners currently utilizing it to promote their firms.

___________________________________________________________

Independent Web shows can attract advertisers, sponsors, and thousands of viewers, but marketing and profiting from them is a challenge

By Karen E. Klein for Business Week Smart Answers, 9/29/09

Yana Berlin dabbed on a product sample for a new perfume and liked it O.K. But when her three grown daughters got a whiff, they had one reaction: “You smell like Grandma!”

“I don’t think the manufacturer is going to like it, because it’s being marketed to women over 40 and no one at 44 wants to smell like Grandma,” Berlin notes wryly.

In the past, the perfume company might not have gotten direct feedback from people like Berlin, a San Diego entrepreneur who founded the Fabulously40 social networking Web site. But that’s changed now that Berlin and her daughters, Daisy, Sasha, and Stephanie, have started a Web TV show called, The Love or Hate Debate. It features product reviews and demonstrations from two generations of women.

$20 Billion in Ads at Risk

Like growing numbers of entrepreneurs, Berlin and her family produce the show themselves, edit it, and post it online using free or low-cost video-uploading and streaming software. These Internet-based videos—most packaged in short episodes no more than four minutes long—have the potential to transform marketing and turn small business owners into celebrities in their own right, experts say.

“It’s a fascinating shift and one of the more important ones we’ve seen in B2B communications,” says Daniel Taylor, lead technology and media analyst at The Big Picture, a research firm covering digital media, technology, and communications.

If Internet video continues to catch on as a marketing alternative for small businesses, Taylor says, $20 to $30 billion in advertising that currently goes to the business and trade press could evaporate. Small firms that typically advertise in their industry trade publications, business publications, the Yellow Pages, and on cable television could shift their marketing dollars into producing their own video content. “About 10% of the overall advertising spending in the U.S. could be at risk because of this” new phenomenon, Taylor says. “It’s largely small to midsize businesses that are involved in this, and the caliber of people and the quality of what they’re doing is really amazing.”

Starting in a Garage

Take Andrew Lock, a marketing consultant and former U.K. television producer whose weekly show, Help! My Business Sucks! provides entrepreneurial advice and interviews and attracts corporate sponsors.

The 74-and-counting episodes of Lock’s show attract 100,000 viewers each, have helped boost his consulting business to five-figure monthly revenue and brought him speaking invitations around the world, he says. “I go to conferences where entrepreneurs line up and ask for my autograph,” Lock says. “And I’m just this little British guy living in Utah who started a show out of my garage!”

That show proved so popular, he says, that he built a studio facility near his home in Salt Lake City where he houses professional sets, six employees, and a host of additional presenters who tape their own shows there.

Production Quality Improving

While it’s still very early in the world of Web TV, Lock says, there are myriad shows springing up that cover niche topics like wine, gadgetry, and scrapbooking and are building loyal audiences. “These are real people, not Hollywood, air-brushed celebrities, and it seems viewers respond positively to that real-ness that is very different from traditional TV,” he says.

All of this, of course, is only possible due to technology updates that have taken place in the last three years, says Steven C. Hawley, principal analyst and consultant at tvstrategies, a telecommunications consulting firm in based in Seattle.

In the earliest years of Internet video, picture quality was low, frames were tiny, and the action dribbled out herky-jerky. But now, new technology platforms, such as Blip TV and Vimeo, have sprung up and are maturing so quickly it’s difficult to track them. “The number and type of [video streaming platforms] are proliferating and changing constantly. Internet technology competes head-to-head with cable and satellite, and the availability of multiple platforms makes it possible for just about anybody to distribute content over broadband,” Hawley says. “In fact, I’ve thought of doing it myself as a consultant and an analyst.”

All You Need is $100

It is also nowhere near as expensive as it once was to produce and distribute PC-quality video content. “You can build an audience through social media and through your customer database and drive traffic to your own site. All it takes is $100 for a video camera and a mike. You set it up on a tripod, talk to it, and upload it,” Hawley says.

He sees most small business people using Internet shows to do self-publishing and self-promotion. But entrepreneurs are also infiltrating—if not dominating—the entertainment side of the Web TV experience.

Leyna Juliet Weber, a writer and actor, moved to Los Angeles from New York City a few years ago hoping to break into the big time. But she found that opportunities were few and far between. “The TV climate is really bad, so instead of just waiting around, I worked on some student films at USC and met a fantastic gal named Annie Lukowski,” Weber says.

Launched at Funny or Die

The two stayed in touch, and after Lukowski attended Weber’s live comedy show, they decided to collaborate. They formed a company called Working Bug Media and produced two shorts that they posted at FunnyorDie and YouTube (GOOG).

“We funded them ourselves on a dime budget,” Weber says. After the shorts were well-received, they decided to write and produce a 10-episode show called Road to the Altar. “It’s a wedding story shot as a mockumentary and told from the groom’s point of view,” Weber says. “We pitched it around town and to Web production companies, but everyone is afraid to put money into anything.”

Eventually, the pair negotiated a deal with a company called MWD Media. When Weber was able to get Jaleel White, who played Urkel on the 1990s TV show Family Matters, to star opposite her in the series, they attracted corporate sponsors including Panda Express and Pier 1 Imports. At least 40,000 people have viewed the series on YouTube alone, Weber says.

Old-Fashioned Show Sponsors

Still, although independent Web shows can attract advertisers, sponsors, and thousands of viewers, marketing and profiting from them is a challenge, says Joshua Cohen, the co-founder of Tilzy.tv, a Web site that chronicles and reviews episodic Web series.

The options for Internet video advertising include pre-roll, post-roll, and mid-roll ads as well as overlay ads that pop up at the bottom of the screen. Then there are old-fashioned show sponsors that hark back to the early days of television, when one company or specific product would fund a show and often get a plug by the host. “There are thousands of these shows being produced by major studios, TV networks, film students, and amateurs. It’s everything from NBC down to the most independent, bare-bones productions,” Cohen says.

Episodes typically run from three to five minutes, because most Internet shows are viewed at work. “Lunchtime is the new prime time for online viewing. Technology is being developed so you can watch the Internet on your big screen TV, but it hasn’t broken through yet, so most of the viewing is still happening on the PC at work,” Cohen says.

Trying to Monetize the Shows

While some firms predict that Internet advertising will reach $1 billion by 2011, Cohen says, online shows are not yet pulling dollars away from traditional television advertising. “People are still trying to figure things out online, where they’ve been making money off of TV for 50 years and they’ve gotten very good at it,” he says.

Lock says that while he has used his Web TV show to attract sponsors, increase his consulting profile, and boost his revenues, many Internet entrepreneurs are not as good at monetizing their efforts as he has been. “The show enables people to discover me and what I provide in a relaxed and informal setting. I don’t have to sell. If people respond to the messages in the show, they’ll come to me. I don’t have to do any cold-calling or any of that silly nonsense,” he says.

While many entrepreneurs love what they do, and enjoy producing their own shows, he believes that many of them could make more money at it if they did strategic marketing and advertising campaigns. “There are extremely popular shows that aren’t making any money at all, because they don’t know how to monetize it,” he says.

“A Slow Process”

Lock predicts, however, that advertisers will be increasingly willing to buy into Web TV series in the near future. “It’s a slow process, but it’s definitely happening. Advertisers are looking for other avenues with people tuning out of television, fast-forwarding through commercials or watching their shows on Hulu,” he says.

Satellite Direct Introduces the Internet Television Revolution Are you ready for a new way to watch

Satellite Direct Introduces the Internet Television Revolution

Are you ready for a new way to watch TV? What if I told you that there was a way for you to watch all of your favorite shows, along with news, sports, movies, and even dozens of music stations… all for a one time fee that’s less than half of what you currently pay for cable? (And yes, it’s 100% legal!)

The internet changed the way you work, shop, book travel, and spend your free time. Now, your computer can revolutionize the way you enjoy watching television, too. Imagine: no more cable or satellite bills, no hardware to install, no worrying about bandwidth limits- just thousands of channels and crystal clear picture and sound quality.

With Satellite Direct, you get unlimited 24/7 access to over 3,500 channels. That’s thousands more than cable TV, including dozens of hard to find international channels, as well as all the best premium, movie, sports, news, and music programming. And unlike traditional satellite television, you don’t need to worry about expensive equipment or heavy satellite dishes. In fact, you don’t even have to wait for installation at all! Our easy to use software can be downloaded in about a minute… meaning you are only 60 seconds away from great television, without paying another cable bill ever again.

If you have a computer and an internet connection, you have the ability to cancel your cable company today, and begin enjoying thousands of premium channels right away.

What would you expect to pay for technology that allows you to access the best that television has to offer? Even spending several hundred dollars on a one time fee would add up to thousands of dollars in savings when compared to the thousands you will likely spend on cable subscription services over the next few years.

But for a limited time, Satellite Direct is offering their revolutionary software at the unbelievable price of only $49.95. That’s about half the average monthly cost of cable… for a lifetime of television service! Go get your Satellite PC @ satellitedirecttv

Paul Benjamin co-stars in an episode of “In The Heat of the Night”. Carroll O’Connor stars as a white Southern police chief who works with a black detective, played by Howard Rollins Jr. They put aside racial animosity to solve crimes in a Mississippi hamlet. George Brownlow (Paul Benjamin) is being sought by the Police Chief and open fires on the street of this small Mississippi town. This tense drama was inspired by the Oscar-winning 1967 film, which was based on John Ball’s 1965 novel. www.paulbenjamin.00movies.com

Using Your Imagination

You can travel anywhere when you use your imagination because there are no obstacles to prevent you from imagining. With this creative ability, one may invent, design, build, write, and develop.
Through imagination, a child can become very independent and successful. Imagination has a very important role in the development of an individual.
When children are using their imagination, their minds are free and limitless. They are only bound with their experiences.
Imagination is not limited only to seeing pictures in the mind but when one uses their imagination; they use their five senses, also. One may imagine emotions, feelings, tasting, touching, seeing, hearing, etc. It is only limited to the individual and their imagination.
Imagination makes it possible to come into contact with a whole world within the mind. It gives the child or student the ability to look at any situation, and enables one to psychologically explore, search, or investigate the past and the future.

The days are gone where you can only watch your shows in a specified room or have to buy one or more

The days are gone where you can only watch your shows in a specified room or have to buy one or more TV’s to get multiple room action. Now there’s internet TV.

In my opinion, it’s one of the best things to happen to us. Why?

First, we can get our information that matters to us now, not what they want us to hear or what they’re playing on our TV at a certain time. We can watch the story that captured our attention in Italy or the breaking news in Australia and not just in little clips that we find on the internet!

Everyone is different. We’re not a bunch of robots waiting to hear what our local news wants to tell us. Make up your own mind about what’s important to you and what you want to hear about or not hear about.

Second, get the show you really liked but can’t pick up or for that matter find. Anyone who has travelled and watched TV while doing it has experienced this. You find a program that you find interesting and watch it a few times and say, “I wish I had that show on my TV.” That’s the beauty of internet TV. Chances are, with 3000 or more channels, you’re going to find that program and be able to watch it on your computer and not only at 10:00pm. You’re also going to find your normal programs that you can’t live without, when you travel to Bangkok. All you need is a computer.

And thirdly, you can watch your favorite movies anytime you want. Just like with the thousands of TV channels you’re going to get your favorite movies to instantly watch when you want where you want. If you’re camping and it’s raining, watch a movie. If working extra hours for some overtime, watch a movie. You get my drift.

This stuff is easy to setup and there’s no extra hardware needed. Plus most places will over a 24/7 support line if something happens and missing the survivor finale is not an option.

This place offers TV, movies, sport events and music!

Interesting that Tim brought sexual harassment up within the context of management taking away all perks, leaving employees to seek enjoyment in other ways. Hooters. Especially since the staff in our department also feel that all their perks are taken away one by one. And that creates an atmosphere where the staff wants to get away with things behind management’s backs.

Also interesting that he called it entertainment. Does he think the purpose of the women is for the men’s entertainment? Or is he trying to be funny, trying to entertain me. Part of me does see entertainment value for myself by observing, but not necessarily participating in, Charlie’s games. I don’t always run when I might be better off if I left the office for a moment. I’m curious about what silly thing he’s going to do or say next. I laugh at him, not with him.

And why did Tim connect an obscenity in an article with quotes from the controllers to sexual harassment. Sexual harassment hadn’t crossed my mind. Why does he keep talking about it? Guilty conscience?

He could be trying to gradually desensitize me to behavior that could be construed as sexual harassment. And maybe he is trying to get my promise not to tattle on him for any future sexual harassment. But honestly, I don’t think he’s plotting a sexual harassment campaign on me. Too weird. Maybe he knows what Charlie is like around new women and trying to warn me not to get Charlie fired.

An obscenity in a forwarded email doesn’t bring to mind sexual harassment. Poor taste, bad writing, but not sexual harassment. In fact, when I read it, I wasn’t surprised to see it there. The article was full of quotes from the controllers, saying they all go out to Hooters after work. Now that’s an institution that hires women specifically to get harassed.

I’m the new woman at work. I’ve been here a little over a month. I’m in my thirties and this is my second job since completing grad school and moving my husband of well over a decade across the country. In both of these jobs, within a few weeks of my arrival, a male co-worker has taken my hand and put it somewhere it doesn’t belong.

Surely I couldn’t be the only one the Charlie has been sticking his fingers on. The whole game came way too easily for him. So I’m hiding a camera in a box on my shelf. To keep a video diary of what’s going on.

It looks like Charlie’s not the only one looking for action. He’s just following the lead of management. Interesting that Barry and Jane came in to work all cozy together this morning. Barry’s behavior makes it seem like a little cozying is what management not only condones, but encourages, in order for women to get ahead. Jane has a masters degree in engineering. It disgusts me that this is the level to which she has to stoop to gain favor from management. And thanks Jane, for perpetuating women’s bad stereotypes.

As the new woman, I don’t know a whole lot of people in the organization and they don’t know anything about me. I don’t have a network of colleagues to interact with. My government boss hasn’t spoken to me more than once since I started because he’s transferring to a different department in a few weeks and doesn’t care what I do. I have several other bosses, but none in charge of my work.

So I would hang out with the most fun guy who would pay any attention to me. Now the person I enjoy talking to the most is the person I need to be wary of.

Luckily at my previous job, the male co-worker with wandering hands quit within a few months. I’m not betting on being so lucky with the current one. So I’m documenting this to help me understand what’s really going on, to analyze how my perception of the situation changes from day to day, and to help any other co-workers who may be affected by this problem.

Tweet Twins launch Cloud Television for a media hungry audience. Taking advantage of latest technologies and broadcast channels allows The Tweet Twins to join a stampede of radio and TV stations going online.

Engineering guru behind Tweet Twins Cloud Television is Kevin Andreassend whose first foray into video production was when the New Zealand Government required purchasers to apply for an import license to allow either education or businesses only, to buy video equipment…we are talking about a VCR and a camera that had to sit on your shoulder and was a two piece camera system. It was when we used Umatic Tape and required a pack horse to carry the machine (or a willing flunky). Back then Joe Public was not able to buy video gear and when they finally were able to buy a $2000 VCR, the first video library outlets had an extensive rental library of 50 casettes. Batteries never existed in a camera !!! Since then Kevin has implemented, integrated, sold and taught in many sectors of media production and active internationally assisting companies in creating state of the art interactive, communication and entertainment systems.

Cloud Television is a full circle for Kevin, who along with Tweet Twins co-partner Jenny Wilmshurst will host a variety of shows using Social Media tools on how companies can incorporate Social Media into their business strategy. We will be hosting and featuring people with vision, passion from many spheres of life. Business is actually not just about the dollar but about relationships and enjoying the passion and interests of others.

Station call sign is Cloud Triple TV and will be coming from a hemisphere near you. Stay tuned for our debut broadcast Social Media 101 where The Tweet Twins will introduce Social Media for newbies.

Classical broadcasting regulation will be expanded on internet services by December this year, accor

Classical broadcasting regulation will be expanded on internet services by December this year, according to a decision of Slovakia’s Government. This is a result of the application of the EU Directive on Audiovisual Media Services (AVMS 2007- former “Television Without Frontiers”, which foresees the regulation of audiovisual content regardless of transmission art.

The Slovak amendment provoked controversial reactions in the East European country with most internet tv providers fearing overregulation in a developing business sector. According to the government, however, the new rules will be less strict than those for the broadcasting area by treating internet providers preferentially and subduing them only to some basic regulations (protecting minors, encouraging cultural diversity, ensuring essential consumer protection and preventing incitement to hatred) . What is interesting however is the fact that the EU Directive does not foresee a regulative difference between internet and classical broadcasting but between linear and non-linear services. The Slovak interpretation will thus overregulate TV- based video on demand and underregulate internet based linear television (streaming). We will be looking forward to the application of the AVMS in the rest of the member states. This will have to happen till the end of the year.
