Ya empiezan a comercializarse los primeros televisores preparados para conectarse a plataformas de contenidos y servicios de Internet.

Con los televisores que cuenten con este tipo de conectividad, podemos ver cualquier vídeo de la extensa galería de YouTube a pantalla completa, (u otros canales como EuroSport), hacer pases de diapositivas con las fotografías de nuestros álbumes de Flickr o Picassa, ver la previsión del tiempo en nuestra ciudad o consultar información bursátil, y todo desde el mando de la TV. Se rumorea incluso que Panasonic incorporará a su plataforma Viera Cast un servicio de alquiler de películas utilizando este sistema.

Y me viene a la mente una reflexión personal: Seguramente estaréis al tanto del revuelo suscitado hace unos días por la aprobación del Real Decreto que autoriza la Televisión Digital Terrestre de pago y las quejas de organizaciones de consumidores denunciando que la mayoría de los decodificadores “con toda probabilidad” no valdrán para ver la TDT de pago. Es curioso, todavía no ha llegado el “apagón analógico”, o como dice la Vicepresidenta, “el encendido digital”, y el consumidor ya habrá pasado por dos generaciones de decodificadores. Que difícil es absorber la tecnología.

Al margen de todo esto, se está desarrollando silenciosamente, pero a pasos de gigante, otra alternativa basada en contenidos en Internet, lo que algunos ya denominan IP-TV.
Y es que cada vez vemos más contenidos provenientes de esta fuente, que de la emisión de televisión tradicional. Basta con escuchar en la calle hablar a la gente sobre una serie determinada que todavía no se emite en nuestro país.

En mi opinión, los principales proveedores de televisión, gratuitos y de pago, no deberían dormirse ya que las posibilidades de negocio a través de este sistema son enormes. Imagina estar viendo un programa de televisión, mientras haces un comentario “en vivo” utilizando Twitter para que lo vean tus followers, o el Time Line de todo el mundo (A lo Nick Dut Nik). También me viene a la mente una evolución de la típica publicidad subliminal de las series españolas, pero con etiquetas para consultar el producto. O compartir lo que estamos viendo con nuestros amigos. Como digo, las posibilidades son enormes.
Solo entonces podremos calificar de interactiva a la televisión.

Zattoo es un programa para mirar televisión por internet gratis. La desventaja que tiene es que se pueden sintonizar canales del propio país en que se está, y en algunos países no es posible hacerlo. En el caso de España se pueden destacar: Antena 3, La Primera, La 2, La Sexta, TVE Canal 24 horas y Teledeporte entre otros.

Cabe resaltar la buena calidad de imagen que se obtiene con un ancho de banda razonable. El programa es gratis pero para descargarlo hay que registrarse previamente en la web de zantoo.

Adobe Media Player

Adobe Media Player es una aplicación para ver programas y series de TV en el PC (vía Internet), el cual incluye canales como CBS, MTV Networks, UMG, entre otros.

La interfaz es muy atractiva, y la velocidad de carga de los videos es más que aceptable, y el hecho de pertenecer a Adobe le da cierta garantía y una ventaja frente a otros programas de streaming para ver televisión, aunque si hay que optar por algún software de los que ofrecen “TV a la carta”, recomendamos el Joost.

Soporta el formato FLV, por lo tanto permite ver videos de Youtube y otros portales.

Adobe Media Player 1.5 es la versión más nueva, que por el momento está disponible solamente en inglés y es gratis.

Requiere de Adobe AIR y en caso de no disponer del mismo, al intentar descargar el Media Player se advertirá que no está instalado el Air y se ofrecerá para descargar.

RevoluTV es un programa para ver canales de televisión en el PC. La lista de canales disponibles incluye 26 de habla hispana, y varios de otras partes del mundo (Argentina, Alemania, Canadá, Francia, India, Japón, Reino Unido, USA y más), en varios idiomas, aunque la cantidad total no se acerca a la de otros programas que ya hemos presentado para ver TV online.

Los canales están categorizados en diferentes géneros como Música, Películas, Deportes, Juegos, Programas infantiles y más. Cuenta con una ventana en la que se listan las distintas categorías y al cliquear en alguna de ellas se despliegan todos los canales con los que cuenta. También se puede buscar por país. Los canales se pueden marcar como favoritos y van quedando en una lista en otra pestaña de la misma ventana para poder acceder más fácilmente a futuro.

El programa es sencillo y fácil de usar, siendo uno más de los tantos programas que hay de televisión IP. La calidad de imágen y sonido son aceptables, y la velocidad de sintonización muy buena. Se puede visualizar a pantalla completa.

Está en español y es gratis.

Livestation

Livestation es un programa que permite ver canales de TV en el PC de forma gratis a través de su servicio de streaming que permite sintonizar mas de 1200 canales, incluyendo cadenas internacionales como CNN, BBC, NBC News, Bloomberg, además de deportes, fútbol y cadenas en español.

LiveStation utiliza tecnología P2P al igual que muchos programa que han surgido últimamente, pero podemos decir que se asemeja a Zattoo, con la ventaja de que Livestation es gratis por el momento, mientras que Zattoo lo ha dejado de ser hace poco tiempo.

La calidad de imagen es muy buena, y obviamente, será mejor la calidad de trasmisión y la posibilidad de ver canales sin interrupciones, si se cuenta con un aceptable ancho de banda.

Inicialmente cuenta con poco canales en la lista del programa pero se pueden ir agregando fácilmente desde la página web, pudiendo hacer búsquedas de los canales que se quiera incorporar.

Algo que destaca a este producto es su portabilidad. Soporta Windows XP y Vista, Mac, Linux, también dispositivos móviles con Windows Mobile, XBox, Media Centers, etc.

InternetTV es un programa que permite sintonizar canales de televisión de todo el mundo, unos 5000 canales apróximadamente, muchos más de los que pueden obtenerse a través de cualquier sistema de cable o satélite.

Las diferentes emisoras de TV que se pueden ver con este programa son sin cargo, es decir no es necesario pagar ningún tipo de cuota o abono, siendo totalmente gratis. El unico requeriemiento es un PC o Laptop, sin necesidad de ningún hardware adicional, y obviamente una conexión a Internet con un buen ancho de banda.

La lista de canales está categorizada en varias temáticas como deportes, fútbol, películas, series, noticias, dibujos animados, etc. La cantidad de países con por lo menos un canal es de 120 aproximadamente, pudiendo encontrar de varios idiomas como inglés, español, italiano, francés y mucho más.

Miro

Miro es una aplicación gratuita para ver programas de televisión e Internet en diferido.

El programa actualiza automáticamente la parrilla de programación de una gran cantidad de canales, de manera que el usuario puede descargar las series, documentales, informativos etc. que más le gusten y verlos desde el reproductor de Miro.

El archivo de instalación trae por defecto centenares de canales ordenados por categorías, la mayoría en inglés. Algunos son en español. Sin embargo, posibilita añadir la URL de cualquier cadena de televisión. De esta forma, el usuario puede ir escogiendo sus programas preferidos y automatizar su descarga.

Miro también interactúa con YouTube, blogdigger, Revver, Veoh Video Network, Google Video, blip.tv y Daily Motion. Esto significa que los vídeos de estas plataformas son accesibles desde Miro.

Aún existen cadenas que no dan acceso a través de internet a sus programas, pero la mayoría ya ha comenzado a hacerlo. Miro aprovecha esta circunstancia y se acerca poco a poco al ideal de la televisión a la carta gratuita.

TVUPlayer

TVU Player es un programa para ver emisiones de televisión a través de Internet. Con 21 canales, TVU Player está especializado en cadenas deportivas, pero también tiene de música y financieras.

Gracias a que utiliza un sistema similar a los programas P2P, podrás ver el número de personas (“peers” conectadas, es posible transmitir una señal con muy buena calidad. El truco es tener una buena conexión a Internet y darle unos segundos al programa, cada vez que cambies de cadena, para que consiga un buen buffer.

Como es habitual en este tipo de programas, hay demasiadas cadenas asiáticas y, o bien sabes chino o bien las utilizas para ver eventos deportivos.

Online Media es un programa para ver la televisión y escuchar la radio por Internet. Tiene más de 2000 enlaces a canales de televisión que emiten por la Red, y 1500 de radio.

Están ordenados por países y categorías: noticias, deportes, religión, compras, tiempo, películas, educación, música, generalistas, etc. Buena parte de los canales en español pertencen a emisoras locales y regionales, pero también los hay de difusión nacional.

Manejar la ventana del programa no tiene mayor dificultad que encender la televisión de nuestro salón. Se escoge el canal y el programa lo muestra, así de sencillo.

Online Media tiene otras funciones que aportan comodidad. Es el caso de la lista de favoritos, el buscador de canales y el temporizador para apagar automáticamente el ordenador al cabo de un tiempo determinado. Seguramente el autor del programa ha pensado en aquellos que se duermen viendo la televisión.

Otra función destacable es la ajustar el tamaño de la ventana a la resolución del vídeo que estamos viendo, de esta manera ganaremos en nitidez.

PPMate

PPMate es un programa para ver emisiones de televisión gracias a la tecnología P2P aplicada al streaming de vídeo en tiempo real. Este fenómeno empieza a conocerse como “Televisión P2P”.

Hay más programas/redes que se dedican a esto de la “Televisión P2P”, por ejemplo PPlive y PPstream. PPMate hace uso de éstas y añade su propia “red”, con lo que su oferta es una de las más amplías.

En concreto, PPMate ofrece más de 200 canales, perfectamente agrupados por temáticas: música, ciencia ficción, deportes, e incluso canales de videojuegos. Esta lista de canales se actualiza automáticamente.

Una de las máximas de la Televisión P2P es que si el canal que eliges es muy popular, la fluidez del vídeo será mayor. En PPMate se cumple la máxima, eso sí, cuando consigues ver un canal, la calidad de imagen es sorprendente.

Como sucede con otros programas de este tipo, algunas partes del programa están en chino, pero en PPMate la mayor parte del programa se encuentra traducida a inglés, incluso el contenido chino lo traduce a inglés, en tiempo real, gracias al traductor de Google.

PPMate también destaca por sus funciones. Permite grabar la emisión y tiene opción “replay” para disfrutar con una repetición. En cambio, si de algo peca PPmate es quizá su inestabilidad. Se cierra en algunas ocasiones, sin motivo aparente.

The Wall Street Journal did a review on the first Samsung HDTV to run the Yahoo Widget engine, one of the exciting new features for Ethernet connected TVs that will come out later this year.  Widgets are mini-applications that you can run on your TV, much the same as your Electronic Program Guide, except you will eventually be able to choose the different applications you want to see:

The Yahoo Widget Engine comes preloaded on TVs with four basic widgets to start: Flickr (Yahoo’s photo service), Yahoo News, Weather and Finance. When prompted, these widgets appear in a horizontal dock along the bottom edge of the TV screen, along with Widget Gallery and Profile. (If you just want to watch TV, you can hide the widget dock easily.) Yahoo expects to offer 20 to 30 widgets within two months, and estimates that it will offer around 100 by the end of the year.

The article goes on to say that by the end of the year, Samsung will have 17 models with what they call Internet@TV:

The Samsung LED TV 7000 connects to the Web via a wired connection or by using a wireless USB device, which Samsung sells for $80. Currently, Samsung offers four models with built-in Web access, which it calls Internet@TV. By June, the company plans to offer a total of 17 models with Internet@TV. All TVs with the Widget Engine will have remote-control shortcut buttons to pull up widgets.

With all the Ethernet connected devices coming out in your living room, it’s going to be a lot more cost effective to buy one set of MoCA adapters rather than the $80 dongle for each of your gadgets.  Let’s count them up HDTV + Bluray + Xbox + Sling + TiVo + ??? = A lot of wireless interference.  Plus, at some time in the future these widgets will be streaming video which is when you’ll really need the speed and reliability of a wired connection.

I watch the vodcasts and internet TV shows on the amazing VLC media player. I have it set on “Always On Top” so I can watch shows while typing and surfing the web. Love it.

Yesterday i attended the Miro chat meeting in #miro on freenode. willguraldi, z3p and Deaner, all somehow involved in the Miro project, tried to answer most of the questions asked in their Live Question Tool. As will mentioned that he is going to publish the whole chatlog somwhere in the near future, i’ll just point out few things i find remarkable:

• there are plans to integrate a “comments link” which links to the comment page of a certain item, so that the publisher is still able to follow the discussion on his content in one place
• more community features are on the roadmap for the MiroGuide itself
• basic changes on the ui are currently done with plugin capabilities in mind
• it’s possible that the next version (at least a month to go) will include “early playback”, “streaming” (e.g. real media) is in progress
• furthermore, the next release will be a huge ui overhaul (replacing html-templates with widgets, thus increasing perfomance) with many bug fixes

People willing to participate in testing the nightlies can head to http://participatoryculture.org/nightlies/. Those are just experimental, so please don’t use them if you want a stable version of Miro.

Schon seit einiger Zeit ist Zattoo ein schönes Tool um über das Internet fernzusehen. Bisher nur mit Viacom- (MTV, Giga, Viva) und einigen Spartensendern (DSF, DMAX, TierTV,..).

Was jetzt wie ein Aprilscherz klingen mag ist allerdings keiner: Ab jetzt sind sämtliche öffentlich-rechtlichen Sender von ARD und ZDF sehbar. Auch die, die bisher nur digital verfügbar waren wie der ZDF Infokanal. Die Bildqualität ist in Ordnung, kann aber mit DVB-T oder Satellit nicht mithalten – dafür ist das Bild einfach zu matschig. Fürs schauen reicht es aber allemal.

Der Zattoo-Player ist nach einer kostenlosen Registrierung für Windows2000 SP3 bis Windows Vista, Mac OS X und Linux downloadbar.

Nya system, som exempelvis Joost, för att distribuera television via Internet är facinerande. Antalet kanaler är inte begränsat till frekvensomfång och krav på externa apparater. I de nya systemen finns det inte TV-tablåer, vilket gör det möjligt att själv välja program (Joost har idag 20 000 olika program) som även finns tillgängliga under en större tidsrymd. Om publikens uppmärksamhet redan tidigare var splittrad på flera kanaler och program, så blir publiken än mer fragmentiserad då tidsdimensionen upphör. Det sker en invidvidualisering av TV-tittandet och genom konvergens skapas nya interaktiva möjligheter. Joost öppnar upp möjligheten att söka efter innehåll och att interagera med andra tittare. Antagligen kommer även kanaler som baserar sig på användargenererat innehåll á la YouTube att skapas i större utsträckning. Kanske kommer de stora formaten att avta då även reklamintäkter måste genereras på annat sätt än reklampauser och öppna upp för sådana nichkanaler.

Den stora massan splittras i TV-tittandet, vi går från kollektiv till mindre intressegrupper och har kanske inte tillgång till samma symboliska resurser. Om vi föreställer oss en framtida situation där alla ser på Internettv på detta vis. Innehållet skapas och finns tillgängligt under en lång tid skapar det konsekvenser för vad folk har gemensamt. Det tillfälliga storbråket i en TV-soffa får en mer utdragen karaktär, där uppmärksamheten hos tittarna kommer i och med att information om händelsen sprids över det sociala nätverket och andra informationskanaler. Detta ligger långt i framtiden, fortfarande så har den traditionella televisionen ett stort antal tittare. Exempelvis hade senaste melodifestivaltävlingen 3,4 miljoner TV-tittare.

Media Servers are cool things that allow you to access your files (particularly multimedia) from anywhere in the world. If you have a TV-Tuner card for your computer you can even watch your local TV from anywhere with a internet connection (including an onscreen local guide).

http://www.orb.com/orb/ is the website. All you do is register for free, download their software and in the preferences point to the appropriate folders (ie the Music section is pointed to the folder which contains all of your music).

For example, if you had an iPod touch, which is limited by either 8gb or 16gb of space, you can set up this media server and anywhere with a WiFi connection you can stream to any of the audio or video files you want to enjoy! It even works with cell phones with WiFi connections as well as laptops ect. ect.
