Kosovo es una anomalía. Un estado estadounidense en Europa. Hasta ahora y aquí, los microestados europeos surgieron como paraísos fiscales o bancos privilegiados con secretos bancarios blindados. El penúltimo surge como una importante base militar norteamericana en los Balcanes. De igual modo que Panamá fué primero un canal y luego un estado desde un territorio amputado a Colombia, Kosovo fue antes una base y después un estado desde un territorio amputado a Serbia. Un país de la Unión Europea sufre en el siglo XXI la misma amputación que sufriera en el siglo XIX un país de America Latina.
La mano que movió la cuna escisionista, tanto ayer como hoy, es el Pentágono. El argumento oficial es el respeto al derecho de autodeterminación. El mismo que negara Lincoln a la Confederación de Estados del Sur, no dudando lo más mínimo en ir a una guerra civil, fué utilizado para reconvertir la geoestratégica base de Pristina, la capital de la autonomía kosovar, en el estado de Kosovo. De la noche a la mañana, conocidos terroristas narcotraficantes kosovares, denunciados por la Interpol, fueron reconocidos como patriotas por Washington y elevados a la categoría de estadistas.
No hubiese sido posible romper la unidad e integridad territorial del estado serbio sin el silencio y la complicidad de otros importantes estados europeos. La ausencia de reacción de la Unión Europea es significativamente sorprendente. Máxime teniendo en cuenta que otras grandes potencias, veáse China, frenan los intentos estadounidenses de aplicarles a sus territorios la misma fraseología democrática del derecho de autodeterminación que niega a los estados que componen los Estados Unidos. Nada describe mejor la impotencia europea.
Es un precedente inquietante. Nadie mejor que los Estados Unidos sabe que ningún estado puede aceptar el derecho de autodeterminación porque aceptarlo sería tanto como reconocer una soberanía ajena a la propia. Es decir, un suicidio estatal. Justo quien lo combatió a sangre y fuego en la Guerra de Secesión no puede ir predicándolo fuera de sus fronteras. Cuando lo hace, la Unión Europea debiera impedirlo como lo impide China. Quienes hoy publicitan en España el estado de Kosovo, a la vista está en los medios de comunicación, debieran tener en cuenta que la amputación de Serbia puede ser mañana la de cualquier otro estado europeo.

Els novaiorquesos Interpol estan enregistrant el que serà el seu quart disc d’estudi. La banda liderada per Paul Banks ha fet saber que en aquest nou àlbum pretenen recuperar el so que van exhibir en el seu idolatrat LP de debut ‘Turn On The Bright Lights’. La pregunta que molts ens fem és si en algun moment han abandonat el seu so. Potser el que els calia era reinventar-se després del mediocre ‘Our Love To Admire’ on tornaven a repetir la seva fórmula de l’èxit però amb menys inspiració.

El quart disc està previst que es posi a la venda a principis de 2010 i es presenta com un moment clau per a la història de la banda que ha anat dilapidant el prestigi obtingut amb el primer disc. Veurem què ens depara aquest nou treball dels de Nova York.

17 November 2009 NEW YORK: A US court has handed 19-and-a-half years in prison to an actor convicted of abusing children as young as six on trips to Thailand and posting the images on the Internet.

Wayne Nelson Corliss, 60, was also ordered to pay a 5,000-dollar fine. The federal court in Newark, New Jersey said on Monday Corliss – who reportedly played Santa Claus for children – would be under supervision for life.

Corliss was arrested in May last year in Union City, just outside New York, after a two-day global manhunt called by Interpol after Norwegian police spotted online images of his sex acts with children as young as six.

Interpol had sent a cropped photo of Corliss from the pornographic images to police around the world.

“Wayne Corliss is a determined sexual predator who travelled the world to engage in horrible conduct with helpless young victims,” Paul Fishman, the US attorney for New Jersey, said in a statement.

“The length of the sentence will ensure – as it should – that Corliss will never have the opportunity to prey on anyone else,” he said.

Corliss pleaded guilty to travelling to Thailand annually from 2000 to 2002 with an intent to abuse children and to storing images of child pornography on his home computer, prosecutors said.

Corliss allegedly gained access to the young boys at the home in Thailand of Canadian John Wrenshall, who was extradited last year from Britain to the United States and awaits a separate trial in New Jersey.

The Newark-based Star-Ledger newspaper said Corliss played roles in small theatre productions in Manhattan and at least three movies including the 1982 comedy “Waitress”.

More recently, he made a living playing Santa Claus at children’s birthday parties and fairs, the newspaper said.

It was Interpol’s second public appeal for a suspected paedophile, a year after a high-profile operation that reconstructed computer images to track down suspected Canadian paedophile Christopher Paul Neil in Thailand.

Todos conocemos el semanario musical NME, que se dedica a promocionar a la música Indie en Gran Bretaña, comúnmente siempre al día de todo el entorno musical tanto local como mundial. Esta vez la publicación inglesa nos proporciona la lista de los 100 mejores discos de la década. ¿En que se basaron? Bueno, realizaron una encuesta hace como 2 semanas (no recuerdo bien cuando vote) y el resultado completo se puede ver aquí. Me gusto el resultado, realmente se le hace mucha justicia a bandas que han marcado la década, como los Yeah Yeah Yeahs aunque me hubiera gustado que salieran The Hives…pero no se puede obtener todo en la vida xD! Me deprime que el Absolution de Muse este en el lugar 49 pero creo es algo a comparación de Coldplay que esta vez, apesar de estar en la lista de votación, ni siquiera aparecio entre los 100… Ni modo nos quedaremos con la mención en el 2002 -w-u.

Thanks to everybody who commented on my last blog post! I really appreciate you sharing your playlists with everyone and introducing us to some great new music!

As I was responding to your comments, something hit me. You guys have shown us an incredible ammount of support over the last few years. You’ve called your local DJs to request our music. You’ve come to our shows and purchased our CDs. And your votes have caused us to win more contests and get onto more playlists than I could count. Each of you has helped make what we do possible.

Last week was really cool because we had twenty people contribute to our post! But, our anlaytics show that hundreds of people read it. Why is that? I’m not sure. But I feel that it is – at least in some part – due to the fact that so often the creation and delivery of art is a one way street. I want to change that; so I’d like to invite you to take a moment to do three things:

O último álbum do Interpol, Our Love to Admire, lançado em 2007, não atendeu às expectativas. Apesar de conter No I In Threesome e Rest My Chemistry, para a banda que já havia lançado Evil, Narc, Slow Hands, C’mere e Obstacle 1, foi um trabalho mediano.

Nesse meio tempo, os rapazes nova-iorquinos tem se dedicado a outros projetos. O vocalista, Paul Banks, lançou um CD solo com o pseudônimo Julian Plenti. O baterista Sam Fogarino esteve tocando com a Magnetic Morning, sua outra banda. E o baixista, Carlos D, lançou um curta-metragem.

Apesar das outras ‘distrações’, os fãs da banda podem ficar aliviados. Não só Fogarino disse, em entrevista à revista Paste, que o Interpol lançará seu quarto disco no começo de 2010 (pela Capitol), como também revelou que a banda voltou às suas origens – o elogiado Turn on the Bright Lights. Dedos cruzados.

E anche gli Interpol sono pronti a rimettersi in marcia. Dopo il disco del leader della band, Paul Banks, uscito sotto il monicker di Julian Plenti, il gruppo newyorkese ha fatto sapere che il successore del discusso Our Love to Admire arriverà a inizio 2010.

E’ stato il batterista Sam Fogarino ad annunciarlo durante una recente intervista con Paste Magazine. “Il nostro terzo album non è coinciso con un momento di coesione per la band”, ha ammesso il musicista. “Quello che abbiamo registarto nella scorsa primavera è invece è una sorta di ritorno al periodo successivo al primo disco. Abbiamo rimesso le mani sul nostro sound per fare in modo di non dimenticare da dove veniamo”.

Il disco, ancora senza titolo, sarà pubblicato dalla Capitol Records potrebbe sugellare il ritorno degli Interpol alle sonorità dello splendido esordio di Turn On The bright Lights.

I have begun the arduous task of compiling “best video of the year” category for the Golden Toque Awards. I spent four hours on this yesterday and only ended up at September 15–I’m going backwards, so that isn’t a lot of progress. Can’t we just call it even and hop on the “Single Ladies” bandwagon? Or, to change it up give it to “Bad Romance” or “Run this Town”? C’mon. You all know one of those videos will win anyway.

At least yesterday I got to break up the task with some writing!

Despues de su tercer LP llamado Our Love To Admire, los neoyorquinos de Interpol han revelado detalles de lo que será su cuarto album de estudio.

El encargado de emocionarnos fue Sam Fogarino quien sin dar grandes detalles como el nombre del disco o de las canciones, revelo para la PASTE MAGAZINE  “el sonido del nuevo album se parece al de nuestro debut TURN ON THE BRIGHT LIGHTS, tratando de avanzar, hay un contranto que no tienes que decir para regresar a la etiqueta de  tu sonido”.

Agrego ademas que Daniel Craig, guitarra principal de la banda se esforzo mucho por encontrar su sonido, y que suena maravillo en grandes espacios.

Interpol have revealed that their new album will be released in early 2010 – and is a bit of a retro affair. The record will be the follow-up to 2007’s ‘Our Love To Admire’ and the group’s fourth studio album, and the band’s drummer Sam Fogarino has revealed how the sound of the LP is a return to that of their 2002 debut album ‘Turn On The Bright Lights’.

“The new record falls back towards the first,” he told Paste Magazine. He added: “In trying to move forward, there was an unspoken realisation that you can’t let go of your sonic-defining tag.” Although a release date, title or tracklisting is still yet-to-be announced, Forgarino also revealed how the band had reverted back to their early sound. “There was an effort in Daniel [Kessler]’s guitar tone; he rediscovered it playing in his loft space for a year without anybody,” he explained. “The quality of that tone, played in a big room, is just beautiful. It creates an atmosphere.”

Sam Fogarino dobos szerint az új Interpol-album visszatérés lesz az együttes debütáló nagylemeze, a ‘Turn On The Bright Lights’ hangzásához. „Miközben azzal kísérleteztünk, hogy úgymond továbblépjünk, kimondatlanul is rájöttünk, hogy nem szakadhatunk el a hangzásunkat meghatározó alapvetésektől” – nyilatkozta Fogarino, aki az új lemezzel kapcsolatos információhoz pontos megjelenési dátumot vagy címet nem mellékelt. Kapcsolódó hír, hogy az Interpol frontembere, Paul Banks decemberben brit turnéra viszi Julian Plenti néven elkészített ‘Skyscraper’ című szólóalbumát.

Hace un tiempo en el blog posteamos las listas de los mejores discos de la década según Uncut y Pitchfork. Esta vez la que se pronunció al respecto fue la prestigosa revista musical NME, que confeccionó una lista de 100 álbumes.

El disco que ocupó el primer lugar fue Is This It, de los neoyorquinos The Strokes, que había quedado 5º en la lista de Uncut y 7º en la de Pitchfork.

O jornal Folha de S.Paulo e o portal UOL publicaram nesta terça-feira (17) mais uma reportagem contra a Rede Record. O grupo se aliou à TV Globo em uma campanha difamatória, que tem como base uma suposta denúncia de remessa ilegal de dinheiro ao exterior.

De acordo com as duas concorrentes da Record, o empresário Edir Macedo teria usado dinheiro de doações religiosas para a compra da emissora. As mesmas acusações já foram investigadas pela Polícia Federal, Interpol e arquivadas pelo Supremo Tribunal Federal.

Ainda assim, essa foi a terceira matéria divulgada pelo Grupo Folha desde a veiculação de reportagem sobre o mesmo assunto pelo Jornal Nacional, há cinco dias. Não é a primeira vez que isso ocorre. Sócias no jornal Valor Econômico, Folha e Globo têm se aliado constantemente em ataques infundados contra a Rede Record.

Tanto a reportagem da TV Globo, exibida quinta-feira (12), quanto a matéria desta terça-feira de Folha e UOL foram manipuladas. Sob o título “Contas da Universal movimentam R$ 1,4 bi”, o texto da Folha de S.Paulo induz o leitor a acreditar que todo este valor foi movimentado por representantes da Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus. Em ilustração que pretende explicar “como opera a organização”, sugere que o dinheiro foi desviado de doações de fiéis para aquisição da emissora de TV.

No meio da reportagem, porém, a própria Folha se desmente. “(…) Nem todo o dinheiro está relacionado à Universal. Há indícios de que se tratavam de ‘contas-ônibus’, que abrigam recursos de diferentes empresas e pessoas brasileiras.” Ou seja, as contas não são “da Universal”, segundo a própria matéria. Nem mesmo há provas de que a Igreja Universal enviou dinheiro ilegalmente ao exterior.

De acordo com o advogado da igreja, Antônio Sérgio de Moraes Pitombo, isso nunca aconteceu. “Segundo o criminalista, o Ministério Público do Estado de São Paulo está usando fatos antigos, já investigados pela Polícia Federal e arquivados por falta de provas”, diz o jornal. Para o advogado, não faz sentido a premissa da investigação de que a Universal usou dinheiro dos fiéis para a compra de emissoras de TV e de rádio e jornais. “Não tem desvio de finalidade na igreja. É só visitar hospital e presídio. Eles têm um trabalho assistencial muito grande”, disse Pitombo à Folha.

Em reportagens recentes, a Rede Record mostrou que tanto Folha quanto TV Globo manipularam o noticiário nos últimos meses. A Folha enganou seus leitores ao publicar uma informação mentirosa sobre a vida política da ministra-chefe da Casa Civil, Dilma Rousseff. No caso da Globo, ficou provado que um dos principais promotores que assinam a denúncia contra a Record já foi punido no passado por favorecer a emissora dos irmãos Marinho.
