Has anyone actually found Google Wave to be of any use yet? I received an invite a couple of weeks ago and set an account up simply out of interest. I wanted to know what the fuss is about since it is constantly at the top of the Trending Topics on Twitter. Once I had set my account up and watched the introductory videos I thought “OK, what now?”. Well the obvious answer is that I needed to invite people I know to join up too so that we can communicate using Google Wave.

After sending out a few invites I waited to see who would join up. The answer? Very few. The people who have joined up have asked the same question as the people I have spoken to who haven’t bothered joining – “what’s the point?”. What they all want to know is “what does Google Wave offer that I can’t get elsewhere?”. Good question really and one that I find difficult to answer. Without using it you aren’t going to find out what the benefits of it are, but nobody is going to use it unless they already know what the benefits are – a vicious circle.

I say to people “well, it’s sort of a cross between email and instant messaging with a bit of Facebook thrown in but it is supposed to be the future”. To which all I get in response is a blank look of apathy which I can’t really blame them for. I know that I am not the only one who feels this way and I suspect that Google themselves know this since I suddenly received another 10 invites to dole out today to anyone who might be interested. The unfortunate fact is that not many people are interested!

P.S. Actually this link (http://beyondthecode.wordpress.com/2009/10/02/a-google-wave-explanation-for-mom/) is a pretty good explanation of what Google Wave is and what is can be used for but why can’t Google explain that to us?

Efter alla invites i Spotify och Voddler är det nu dags att sukta efter att få invites till Google Waves och snart har jag åtta att dela ut.

Det är e-post, wiki, chat och massa annat på ett och samma ställe, en slags epost som man chattar inuti, det är riktigt listigt.

Det man skriver i Wave delas direkt ut till de kontakter man valt och alla kan gå in i tråden (eller wave som google kallar det) och skriva kommentarer var som helst och alla berörda ser direkt vad som skrivs till.

En wave kan innehålla direktmeddelanden (som msn), noteringar, program, kopplade dokument och olika former av konversationer

Verkar verkligen vara nästa generation av kommunikationsteknik

Thanks Google for pointing that out to me and giving me another 8 invites. Unfortunately all of my friends seem completely ignorant to this product and don’t fancy having an invite…?! Help.

Ich weiß ja, daß ihr alle total scharf auf ein invite für Google Wave seid, es aber nicht so recht zu sagen traut. Okay, kein Problem. Ich habe acht von diesen heiß begehrten Tickets zu vergeben und werde niemand verpetzen. Großes 63mg Ehrenwort!

Was ich brauche, ist (irgend-) eine funktionierende eMail-Adresse von dir.  Einfach einen Kommentar hinterlassen, oder mir die eMail-Addy über das Kontaktformular zusenden. Um dir Google Wave angucken zu können, brauchst du auf jeden Fall einen Google-Account. Du kannst bei der Anmeldung zu Wave aussuchen, ob du einen bestehenden Account benutzen, oder einen neuen anlegen möchtest.

Google Wave ist noch sehr sehr beta. Mehr als einen Blick, was es vielleicht sein könnte, erlaubt der Entwicklungsstand derzeit nicht. Ich habe da im Moment keinerlei Verwendung für. Ob sich das in Zukunft ändert? Nun, wer weiß, wer weiß – Twitter wusste ich auch erst nicht, was das soll und warum. Bis ich es einfach angefangen habe und nicht mehr sagen kann, was ich vorher bloß ohne Twitter gemacht habe. Also, vielleicht waven wir ja demnächst

E o tal grupo misterioso que adquiriu a BMW-Sauber, chamado Qadbak, parece estar subindo no telhado. De acordo com reportagem do jornal suíço “Sonntagszeitung”, o Qadbak não possui a grana que se imaginava, tampouco é apoiado por magnatas do Oriente Médio. Pelo contrário, o principal nome por trás da companhia é um tal de Russell King, que já passou um tempo na prisão por fraude no fisco e possui bens congelados pela Justiça. Ainda de acordo com a publicação, o acordo da venda pode melar nos próximos dias.

A BMW, como eu já disse várias vezes, fez uma enorme cagada e agora o time está virtualmente sem tempo para qualquer coisa. É uma lástima que a oferta de Peter Sauber não tenha sido aceita pelos alemães há meses atrás. Uma vergonha.

Então cruzem os dedos, fufeiros, porque a chance de mais uma equipe bem estabelecida sumir do mapa é grande, muito grande, enquanto teremos de aturar as sandices da Lotus malaia e da USF1. Afff

Nico: segredo mais mal guardado do ano

A Cometa GP (aka Ross Racing, aka Mercedes GP) confirmou nesta segunda-feira o que todos já sabíamos. O alemão Nico Rosberg será um dos pilotos da escuderia anglo-alemã em 2010. Seu companheiro de equipe ainda não foi revelado, mas o rotundo Norbert Haug prometeu que o nome será visto como “uma surpresa”.

Estou apostando em Koba-San, hein! Sonhar, afinal, não é crime.

Aliás, estou também considerando manter o nome Ross Racing em 2010, uma vez que já se tornou tradicional aqui no blog e o velho Ross seguirá no comando. O que acham? Não é a coisa lógica a ser feita?

Este escriba está distribuindo dois invites para o GoogleWave, a nova ferramenta do Google que ainda não foi lançada oficialmente e que promete abalar as estruturas da forma como nos comunicamos online. Se você não sabe o que é GoogleWave, provavelmente pode esperar até o lançamento oficial. Mas se você, como eu, é um freak por novidades e está à procura de um convite para o Wave, a hora é agora.

Tudo que você precisa fazer para ganhar um é me escrever um email com “Eu quero!” no título. Só tenho dois sobrando, portanto, apressem-se. Não há pódio para o terceiro colocado.

Google has released a beta version of the Google wave which is supposed to be the way email should be used in today’s generation/time. I didn’t want to sit an watch an hour plus long official video about how the program works. So, instead I found a really short and simple one. I love how they try to explain it. Great for people who aren’t really tech savvy.

Only issue is, just like how gmail was available to only a few people initially, google wave has been launched with the same idea. To test the program with a limited number of people and let them invite their friends to test it. Obviously, you can’t test the google wave if you have no one to work with. The invites are going real fast so if you can get someone to send you one, grab it. Strangely enough, people were buying invites on e-bay! Again the issue is, once you get an invite, you may not be able to invite anyone else so you have to know people who already have it to be able to use it with them. So, one can either hold off on using it and let the people who really need it try it first. Or you can grab an invite and and wait till google allows you to invite your friends & co-workers.

And if you have an invite to spare, invite me as well.

Google Wave is great collaboration tool... Anyone there??

Found an illustration that best describes Google Wave. Have been using Google wave… (err waiting for friends to join the wave) for the last couple of weeks. I still have a few invites to give away. Let me know if you want one…

Well… There’s just 45 days left for the BIG day. Nice.

Things are a whirl, right now, really. The Invites have just been sent to print – so they should be out in a few days. All you folks who still look forward to a snail mail posted invite – your wait just got a teensy weensy bit shorter. Plans for the rest of the arrangements are in full swing. Planning for before the event, planning for the event, planning for after the event, planning for the newly rented-out house in Bangalore (read: Making it liveable for Smitha!)

But above all, one thing remains clear – we best leave things upto the Lord. He brought us both together, and He’s kept us going all this while (you can read a little about it in the X-Factor section soon) and He’s bringing us through this awesome “planning extravaganza”. There’s so much to do, and though it seemed like we had tonnes of time on our hands, currently, we’re pretty close to the actual wedding date. (Nice!)

We need prayers for all this to go down smoothly. Lots and loads of prayers. Pile them on high. In the morning, noon and night (as much as possible, really – don’t tire yourselves out!) Thanks.
