According to research funded by EPSRC, a new type of air-fueled battery could offer up to ten times the energy storage of currently available designs

This design would affect a broad ranged of electronic products, most notably laptops and cell phones. In addition, according to the press release, development of this battery could provide a major boost to the renewable energy industry.

The expanded capacity is due to a component that uses oxygen, which replaces some of the chemicals currently used in batteries.  Fewer chemicals equals more energy for the same size battery.

From the press release:

The STAIR (St Andrews Air) cell should be cheaper than today’s rechargeables too. The new component is made of porous carbon, which is far less expensive than the lithium cobalt oxide it replaces.

This four-year research project, which reaches its halfway mark in July, builds on the discovery at the university that the carbon component’s interaction with air can be repeated, creating a cycle of charge and discharge. Subsequent work has more than tripled the capacity to store charge in the STAIR cell.

Professor Peter Bruce of the Chemistry Department at the University of St Andrews, reports on the progress of the project: “ Our results so far are very encouraging and have far exceeded our expectations.”,  estimating that it will be at least five years before the STAIR cell is commercially available.

Saturday, went to Bugis to satisfy our KFC cravings / collect my membership card from Play Imaginative.

Ended up catching Fantastic Mr Fox too and that movie has now made its own way to my film favourites.

After the movie, we decided there was nothing to do in Bugis, so we journeyed into town to check out the X’mas light ups.

Discovered a bunch of new malls. And Bape opening a store here in Singapore.

Went to HMV and hooked myself up with Memphis May Fire’s “Sleep Walking”

Meh. Am depus un efort şi-am citit Ion în 2 zile. Îi muuult mai bună decât Pădurea spânzuraţilor, dar asta nu înseamnă că mi-a plăcut. Dacă mă interesa genul ăsta de acţiune mă uitam câte juma de oră/zi la ştiri la 5 pe PRO TV şi tot aia era.

Pe scurt, ce-am înţeles io îi că Ion, ţăran sărac şi pământofil, se zbate între dorinţa de-a avea pământ şi de-a avea-o pe Florica, pasiunea vieţii lui. Ca un ţăran prost ce e, decide că-i mai simplu s-o ia pe una urâtă şi bogată decât să muncească toată viaţa pentru o bucăţică de pământ. Şi-o ia pe Ana pe care nu pot să mi-o imaginez decât ca pe una din urâtele satului (am o imagine foarte vie în cap, aproape că-mi dă coşmaruri). Dar cum pe Ana nu i-o dă ta-su de bunăvoie, recurge la metode neortodoxe.

Sincer, îi penibil cum înfăptuieşte mişelia chiar la juma’ de metru de ta-su lu’ Ana. Penibil. Îmi imaginez chestia asta la modu’ real şi mă întreb dacă Vasile era în comă de n-a reacţionat de niciun fel (de fapt a auzit el ceva, da’ s-a gândit că făptaşu’ îi George şi pentru ăla ar fi lăsat-o pe fiică-sa să-şi pună poalele în cap). Mnah, dup-aia Ana rămâne cu burta la gură, ţăranu’ n-o mai vrea până nu i se dă tot pământu’, scandaluri, chestii, socoteli, se vede cu sacii în car într-un final.

Dar cum, ca orice ţăran prost, se vrea şi cu s*la-n c*r şi cu sufletu-n rai, el tot pe Florica o iubeşte şi la nevastă-sa se uită ca la ciumă. Numa bine că Ana-i atât de proastă încât îşi pune şi funia de gât şi treburile se simplifică. Plodul moare, Ion are verde la semaforul vieţii.

Şi taman când să se ducă într-o noapte la Florica s-o ardă pasional cu ea, George (cu care s-a rivalizat pentru Ana şi care a luat-o pe Florica) numa bine că s-a întors din drumurile lui şi-l trage pe Ion în ţeapă. Adicătelea îi trage-o sapă zdravănă în cap, în lovitură dublă, în aşa hal încât Ion e KO şi crapă. George purcede spre închisoare şi gata.

Carevasăzică, Ion reprezintă tipologia ţăranului prost. Căpătâiul literaturii române din materia şcolară unde-a stat.

I know I’ve been quiet for some time. It’s been a year already since I moved to LA. I came with a MacBook 1st generation and a Compaq Presario Laptop. Now, a year later…my Macbook died and I sold that presario and an Asus EeePC 900HA that I purchased a few months after moving here.

Currently I’m working out of my MacBook Pro 13″ Aluminum that I purchased a couple of months ago and my iPhone 3G. I am officially a twitter addict and that’s the reason mainly why I have drifted away from wordpress.

I am in the process of acquiring a new Netbook because I miss the portability of one but not the compromises. I’m thinking of getting one with ION Graphics like the HP 311 or perhaps the Acer Aspire 1410 with Intel 4500HD. These are available with Windows 7, but I’ll wait until the holiday’s are gone and I have rounded up some money.

Also, I’m very intrigued about Android and Chrome OS. I think they are both great ideas but Google should have followed the path of the iPhone because if they do not focus on one specific device, it’ll become the next Windows Mobile…too many devices, not enough developers interested in developing apps for several screen sizes, hardware and users.

Another thing I’d like to say is that my Team, REAL MADRID are on the top of the spanish league.

This is the EVERYTHING Region of the Philippines!

Surfing, waterparks, zoos, theme parks, industrial parks, international airports, battle sites, crafts and furniture, leading universities, delectable and delicate foods, shopping malls and sex traders, yacht clubs, religious rituals, churches, urban resettlements, the best national highway, migratory birds, butterfly museums, golf courses, jetskis, triathlons, caves, mountains, vast rice fields, fruits, farms, sprawling poultry farms and piggeries, flying schools, lanterns with 40,000 lightbulbs, fireworks and whatever else I can think of – they can all be had in this part of the country. A fantastic place!Ah this region just has everything. Literally!

It’s that time of year again–time for the community-wide I’On Yard Sale!  From 8 am until 11 am this Saturday, November 14, you can sift through the gently used items from homes all throughout the neighborhood!!  And with 80 homes currently on the market, you know there will be a LOT of homeowners looking to downsize and sell off some good stuff.  In years past, I have purchased some amazing, designer goods and this year, my husband and I will actually be participating as sellers.  We just gathered up a TON of stuff…8 winter coats, loads of jewelry, an HP printer…so start on Civitas St. and work in from there!    Since it only lasts 3 hours, you may want to map out your route in advance!

So plan now and make a day of it!  Call up your girlfriends and plan a morning out to scour the neighborhood together.  That way, once you’ve blown your budget on all the great treats, you can stop by Jacob’s Kitchen for a fantastic brunch!  MMMMM…yummy!!

Over the past several months, the real estate market has changed so dramatically, it has forced all of us in the industry to re-evaluate what buying decisions our clients/friends/relatives are making and what it is that truly leads people to settle in Charleston, SC. Without a doubt, this search has been both challenging and inspiring as I have rediscovered why our city is the most amazing place you could ever live. I have walked around with fresh eyes and grazed past many of you at the Charleston or Mount Pleasant Farmer’s Markets. I have celebrated with you at the opening of the Waterfront Park overlooking our gorgeous Arthur Ravenel Bridge. I have attended numerous restaurant openings and sampled many artistic expressions that I was blessed to put in my mouth. And even yesterday, I walked with my husband through the streets of I’On and heard the Charleston Community Band celebrating Veteran’s Day in a gathering of hundreds of our neighbors!

How do we get to live here!?

I love driving over the Isle of Palms Connector with my convertible top down and looking at all of the cars around me. People drive and fly in to our city from hundreds and thousands of miles away. They save up the big bucks to come here for one glimpse of the ocean and one dinner out on East Bay St. And we get to live here!

It is my intent with this blog to remind all of us why that is such a blessing. So whether it’s a restaurant opening, a great sale on shoes, a public concert, or a fantastic wave report, I’ll post it. And I’ll include any updates I can find on our market as it relates to both our local and National economy. Tune in and fall back in love with Charleston!!

Me and my wife decided to visit Singapore’s latest shopping mall ION. The architecture is a class of it’s own, unique structure to the core. But to my suprise I was shocked to see how they distributed the different levels of classes in our society starting from the Basement being the average joes world and leading to the higher floors where brands like LV and Cartier reside.

You will also see how empty the main entrance with all classy brands is and how crowded the lower floors are ! This actually reminded me of Zion in the movie Matrix. I kinda felt weird and never went to that place ever…

Why did ION take such an approach? Isn’t there Paragon?
