We are DEEP in our move here at Mission Repair. We are upgrading our space to bring you even better iPod Repair and iPhone Repair results! The new building is getting carpet today in the offices and the new breakroom (ver. 2.0!) – this is excellent progress. . .The network lines are run, the tech benches are installed in the tech room and our services are starting to turn up. We are on track to make the move from 19953 West 162nd Street to 19941 West 162nd Street (I know, it’s just a couple of addresses down from us!!!) on Friday afternoon. We will be closing slightly early on Friday 10/16/09 at approximately 3:00pm and we will reopen on Monday 10/19/09 at the usual time. This is a huge deal for us and we’re trying to make the move as painless as possible for everyone involved!!

We have greatly expanded our office space and conference area as well as added a HUGE tech room to make for our expanding business. Last but not least, we have added a 700 sq. ft. breakroom with a full kitchen, flat panel TV and a few other surprises that we are saving to unveil. It’s all for the employees here at Mission Repair that are the heartbeat of the business. When you talk to them you’ll know what I mean. They all take pride in what they do and the business is rewarding the employees with some workplace lifestyle upgrades!

Yes, it’s a panic and your stomach gets that sick and sinking feeling as you watch your beautiful iPhone fall in slow motion into the sink or worse! Don’t worry we’ve heard them all and soda covered iPhones are not necessarily doomed. Let us explain. . .

QUESTION: Can Mission Repair fix my water damaged iPhone?

ANSWER: We want to try! Basically, any problem can be fixed. The question becomes “is it worth repairing?” Without actually seeing the iPhone and having one of our expert technicians perform a complete diagnosis, we can’t really tell over the telephone how much the repair will cost. This is why we diagnose iPhones for free!

QUESTION: What should I do after my iPhone takes a bath?

ANSWER: First turn off your iPhone then dry it off with a towel, then place it in a bag of uncooked plain white rice. You then leave the bag of rice complete with iPhone in sunlight, or another warm/dry place for about 24 hours. The rice will wick the moisture out of your iPhone which immediately increases your odds for an “easier” repair! DO NOT put your iPhone in the oven, even at low temperatures. DO NOT use a heat gun to dry it out. DO NOT attempt to turn it on for at least 3 days after the accident. Any moisture remaining could easily cause further damage even days after.

QUESTION: My iPhone got wet and now the screen is white. Do I need a new LCD screen?

ANSWER: It’s possible! But since water can easily infiltrate the circuitry on your iPhone, your LCD might still be OK. It might be that the connector on the LCD has started to corrode, or the connector on the logic board needs to be cleaned. There are many possibilities when liquid spills occur and if you don’t NEED an LCD, we won’t quote it! MANY cases our technicians will simply disassemble the iPhone, clean all of it’s components, and reassemble it. It’s kinda like magic!

Hello all- I needed to post this blog to clarify a few items about our iPhone 3G adhesive kits. Let me explain. . .

We provide adhesive kits with our iPhone 3G digitizer replacement panels. It’s nothing new. Here’s a peek at our kits: Mission Repair’s Adhesive Kits!

Well, recently we were greeted with an email from overseas. Here’s a screenshot:

Yeah, nice pics on there. They are nice because they are ours! OK, no biggie, I’ll watermark my pics from now on. I apologize for the inconvenience of the watermarks, I know that they are a hassle, but we need to keep this straight here! The REAL reason that I’m writing this is that we ordered some sets of these “overseas” adhesives. Check out our findings below!

Here’s a shot of the overseas adhesives vs. Mission Repair adhesives (Mission Repair adhesives are on the right). The overseas adhesives come on separate sheets. I’m going to jump to the disassembled iPhone frame from an iPhone to speed up the blog a little bit. . .

The overseas adhesives are marked with product number 3M 300LSE. A quick Google search for this will prove that the type of material seems suitable for this application. We tried this material in the beginning as well

Now for the differences. The overseas adhesives come on two separate sheets, and they are rotary die cut. Our adhesive kits are laser cut. The rotary die cut allows for a pretty good cut, but not nearly as precise as the laser cutting. The other main difference is that the overseas adhesives have all of the unused backing still attached. This means that you’ll need to remove it later and NOT damage the “usable” portion of your kit. See more of this later.

We then installed the overseas kit into an iPhone and installed a glass/digitizer. Our first try, right out of the chute, the backing came off with the adhesive. We tried both sides and the paper backing just split and stayed attached to the adhesive. Not good. This one went into the trash. Moving forward, we made sure to separate the adhesive from the backing slightly with a sharp utility knife to get it started.

We removed the “second-chance” adhesive strip and installed it on the bottom of the iPhone frame. We then installed the top adhesive onto the frame like so:

So far so good. At the same time, we installed Mission Repair’s adhesive strips onto another iPhone frame and here they are side-by-side.

We then needed to carefully remove the “UNUSED” portion of the overseas kit. We did this with a sharp utility knife. We repeatedly kept pulling up on the adhesive strip that we wanted to leave on the iPhone, so it took some steady hands and patience as to not ruin the “USED” portion of the adhesive kit.

We then needed to remove the second liner protecting the top of the adhesive. This was difficult. We slid the same sharp utility knife between the liner and the “stuck” adhesive. It took a little time to get. The Mission Repair adhesive kit has pull-tabs to remove the top liner. Just pull and go! NOTE: The pull tabs DO NOT have adhesive on them. No sticky fingers!

We definitely noted that the overseas adhesives DID NOT HAVE THE SAME STRENGTH AS THE MISSION REPAIR ADHESIVES. In fact, it easily popped back off. Maybe with time and a little heat, some extra pressure, or some luck, the new digitizer would remain in place over time.

Well, we supply our Mission Repair adhesive kits to MANY dealers around the country, and we have confirmed that some of the same dealers have tried the overseas version. Those same dealers have converted BACK to the Mission Repair Adhesive kit. They are reporting that iPhones are coming back to them for warranty repairs due to the adhesives not holding the new glass in place. The glass panels are popping back out. OUCH! This is NOT worth the hassle, and that is what this is all about.

To summarize my rant: you can get adhesives elsewhere. You CAN install them into your iPhone. You are running the risk of ruining several sets of overseas adhesives and/or having your digitizer pop off or not sit flush. Folks don’t chance it, our adhesives are proven and work great.

We just launched our newest repair in our lineup- the iPhone 3G Dock Connector Repair. It dawned on me that we needed this flat rate service when I helped a walk-in customer last week that brought in an iPhone with a totally crushed dock connector.

I asked how that could happen, and the customer stated the his daughter tried to push the SIM card in there. It appeared that the daughter was unaware that the SIM card slides in a tray on the top of the iPhone- trying to install it from the bottom caused one heck of a mess! Yes, that’s exactly what I said- iPhone 3G Glass Repair and a helicopter ride. It really happened. Here. Today. At Mission Repair!

We heard from a customer, Jamie, that wanted his iPhone 3G Glass and Digitizer Repaired and found us via a Google search. He and his father scouted the area, and via Google Earth, he saw that we had a large field next to our building here in Olathe. So he flew in. Yes, it’s not every day that one of our customers flies his private helicopter in. I mean we take walk-ins, but fly-ins?? Sure, you betcha!

Here they are arriving at our field to have their iPhone 3G repaired:

We greeted them at the field and immediately got to work on his iPhone back at the office. Our designated technician, Ian, started his iPhone 3G glass magic and dug right in. It gave me a chance to talk to Jamie and his father, Rick, who own and operate Barnes Realty. Check them out online! I have to be honest, they were absolutely 2 of the nicest guys I’ve met. Very friendly and down to earth. So cool they offered to give a couple of our guys a ride in the magic carpet!

Of course we had to let Ian have first right of refusal. He jumped all over it, finished the repair and was ready to go. Kyle, my partner, also had never been in a helicopter so he was the second man. These guys had no hesitation to give us this “freebie” which was extremely generous and unnecessary; but totally worth it! Here’s kyle about to board:
