Apple is looking for a Software engineer that is going to help them out with developing for the standard maps application for the iPhone.

When they do get their new software engineer, I think they are going to get turn-by-turn navigation on the iPhone – for free, to compete with Androids map application that already supports turn-by-turn navigation.

Now with the 2010 iPhone (or iPhone 3,1) already in testing, do you think that the redesigned maps app will come into iPhone 4.0? Lets have some speculation come in – come on Apple, we’re all waiting for you to drop some hints our way!

OK, Puns aside (well, i’m not guaranteeing their won’t be any more in the post) this app is really AWESOME! I’ve been using the app heavily for the last couple of days and just like I mentioned in my quickapp a couple of hours ago, I wanted to review it.

Awesome Note combines notes and your to dos together – all in one app, and it sure as hell is a great replacement app for the standard note app on the iPhone. What I’m going to talk about in this post is what I think of Awesome Note.

What I’d like to talk about first is how good, and skilled the developers are. Not only do the develop an app that just works, but they also have really great customer service – which I will be talking about later.

The User Interface is based on customization. You can theme your Notes, change the font, text size and a lot of other things. The user interface is really classy, robust but not clumsy or hard to work out. I’m on an iPhone 3G and the app runs quite smoothly.

I could have just copied and pasted the feature set from the Bridworks website, but instead I’m going to talk you through them. Like I said, the app is quite robust. It’s got a massive feature set – and there is still much more to come.

There is one feature that I really want this app (and I think all ToDo apps should have this), and its Push Notifications. I hope BridWorks can shove Push Notifications in some where into this app.

Some of the users of the app are probably saying “Oh.. But wheres the Passcode Lock for the App…” and asking for all these other features. The thing is, BRID is working as hard as the Christmas elves the day before Christmas to bring you these new features.

Now, lets get to what I really like about the developers of BRID works, is that they have the best customer service and have great plans for this app. They even have great plans for the app, with guaranteed free updates for as long you live. What I liked about their customer support is that they are responsive, descriptive and really nice.

Well, the blog is getting really busy and its really hard to get posts up everyday especially with exams coming up and what not. I understand that those who do read my blog – and I know people do because I’ve got my blog stats hitting around 200 views a day! That’s a lot for me because the blog only just started a couple of weeks ago. I’ve got about 2 to 3 weeks until my exams arrive and i’ve got a stringent study timetable to get through.

First test of iPhone blog update…

So I just bought a huge case of energy drinks at costco. They were on sale. I started to pack them for lunch to keep me going at work. Seems now I can’t go to sleep. I’m just blogging on my I phone to pass the time now. If I drink an energy drink during the day shoudnt it have worn off by now this is the second night in a row I’m wide eyed instead of catching zzzzzz’s. Those monster energy drinks are great but now it seems the remnants of the monster are lurking beneath my bed throwing b12 and caffine at any shutt eye hoping to enter the room. I tried drinking the tall green double server in the wee hours of the morning insead of at lunch today. Seems to not have changed anything. The rest of my daily intake has made no change. Maybe it’s just all in my head.

yes. i’m at a football game. an american football game. with binzer no less. and truth be told, we have no idea what’s going on here. just cheering at the right moments and drinking good ol’ american beer. but it does give us an excuse to iphone blog!

Queen takes pawn

The second addition to this humble collection of daily sketches.  This was inspired by the cover of a book my wife just finished called Breaking Dawn.  This was an exercise in drawing from a two- dimensional image in contrast to the first exercise which was a three dimensional sculpture…yes we actually have a sculpture of a Yogi Gnome in our house…a gracious gift from my wife!  I am still experimenting with managing this blog from my Iphone.  I am now able to access the dashboard of the site and write posts.  I am just working on the best options for posting the photos of the sketches and a simple photo editing program that I can use before submission.  My goal is to be able to manage this site 100% from my Iphone.

Yogi Gnome

This is the first sketch I did after deciding that in order to improve my drawing skills, I would complete 1 sketch a day.  I decided to post these sketches in order to get feedback and to have a record of my progress.  I am a firm believer in the importance of hand drawing for an aspiring architect.  For me it is like meditation.  It is very easy to find distractions from this important practice but it is critical to our development as architects.

This is a touchy subject. Most people I speak  with  love the iPhone but not AT&T. I don’t blame them… I live and work in Central NJ. The 3G coverage is very poor here. Its so poor when i first got my 3G iPhone there were so many dropped calls (In my first week) that after Apple checked the dropped call logs they sent me a brand new phone thinking it was defective.

Guess what?

Replacing the phone made no difference at all…This was very frustrating since I was using AT&T (3G service) with my Blackberry and didn’t experience these  problems.

OK so where is the tip?    

Turn off 3G and use Edge. Here is where it gets a little touchy…When I have suggested that to people in the past they get all upset. “But I’m paying for 3G”. To me its a no brainier, at least in my area. Use 3G and have about 1/3 of your calls dropped or turn off 3G and don’t have dropped calls. I use about 3K minutes a month and only have one or two dropped calls per month.

I do have one use for the 3G service. That’s when I need to go on the web or download an email with a large attachment and don’t have WIFI service available I will turn on 3G. Then make sure I turn it back off before making any calls.

Again you may not have any problems with 3G service where you live, but if you do you have the option to just turn it off…

OK, so the rumor mill has been working overtime on this one! Is Apple really coming out with a Tablet this fall?

This developer sure hopes so… I’m a huge fan of Tablets. Currently I’m on my third slate Tablet (PC). All of the tablets i have owned were products of Motion Computing. Once you own one you don’t want to go back to a conventional laptop. A slate table is basically just a screen, no keyboard attached. The Motion Tablet that I use has a hard cover that fully detaches. On the underside of the cover if a full keyboard. So if you want to use it as a laptop you just simply attach the Tablet to the cover and you now have a laptop. Back at the office I have a docking station which gives me the feel of a desktop.

So with all the buzz about Netbooks I think it makes perfect sense that Apple comes out with a product that can compete. Something small to surf the web with, check email, Tweet & post to Facebook with. If the Apple Tablet was compatible with iPhone App’s it would take off like a rocket.

So what is the rumoring mill saying exactly:

Lets see what happens…Some people are saying they have already seen this device. Some are saying the announcement could be in a few weeks. I say it couldn’t happen soon enough, but that’s just me ;o)

minor mishaps in the morning but not a bad drive to annapolis, maryland.

nj turnpike is blah! but 4 hrs later we arrived at our destination! a very cute, freckled waiter convinced us to try the maryland blue crabs. proper crab eating tutorial provided, of course. with mallots and paring knives. half dozen medium sized crabs, fried clamstrips, onion rings, and a few yuenglings later we headed towards downtown washington dc.

This is my first test of WordPress’ iPhone app. As it happens, I have a job interview today for Oregon Cycling magazine, which is built with WordPress, so, if I actually get the job, this could be a great way to update content on the site from remote locations. Even if I don’t get the job, this is still cool.

This may sound like an excuse, but I think part of why I haven’t updated this blog as much as I would like is simply due to not being near a laptop with an Internet connection when moments of inspiration come to me. One major factor in any creative professional’s output level is whether or not they have their tools ready to work for them at any given moment. Another is simply overcoming the fear and laziness inherent in all of us. The line between these last two can often become blurred.

At any rate, I will update on the results of my interview in a few days and hopefully you will soon be talking to Portland newest biking techno-journalist.

Blogs can even be written from an iPhone using WordPress’ iPhone app!

As a result of the SMS security flaw revealed this week at the Black Hat conference Apple has released an update to the iPhone OS. The update, iPhone OS 3.0.1, is available for all iPhone users through iTunes (just plug your iPhone in and click “Check for updates” in iTunes). Kudos to Apple in getting this patch out so quickly…

One thing that has this developer a little curious is that for an update that is only suppose to be addressing one security issue  its rather large (230.1MB). So….does this mean perhaps there are some other goodies in this update that they are not talking about yet?

Well after my update is complete I plan on poking around a little bit to see what I find. Please come back and share if you find anything which has been added or changed other than addressing the security issue.
