After the news of O2 allowing iPhone users to unlock their iPhones legitimately I thought hell I’ll try those shenanigans and so 10th November came and I signed up putting in an old O2 Sim Card hoping that it will make me legible, the first time I got to a message from O2 saying that they cannot unlock my phone as it may cause it to epically fuck up, a pile of bollocks I must say but then I called then up on the 11th only to be told that they cannot do it as I have not had my phone for the needed 12 months, why I do not know they just wanna be wankers, so I had to unlock my phone non-legitimately which caused problems with apps opening so then I had to sync all my calenders and contacts with the cloud. So all in all I cannot unlock my iPhone legitimately but in doing so I have embraced the cloud, which is pretty handy.

After all the excitement of the 3rd November release of “Blacksn0w“  by Geohot,  some iPhone unlockers reported that they were having problems with Wifi after using the unlock.

A workaround was found but that involved resetting the wireless settings on the device. Geohot tried to find the problem but could not replicate the fault on any of his test iPhones.

After a few days he began to suspect that it was actually Apples own 3.1.2 firmware that was causing the wifi issues and not his Blacksn0w unlock app.

Taking a swipe a Apple Geohot tweeted  “Apple, will you give me 10k if I fix your wifi bug?”  hinting that they can’t fix their own firmware.

I presume the $10k amount was chosen as that was the amount a UK based iPhone scammer called Jody Sanders had offered Geohot.  This was a sad attempt at publicity for Jody trying to get the new baseband unlocked and sell the software on his scam site.  (Geohot refused the offer of the money and released Blacksn0w for free).

Jody’s website now says the found the unlock himself (on exactly the same day as the Blacksn0w release) and awarded himself the £10k !

This step-by-step guide and tutorial will show you how to jailbreak your iPhone 3G or 3GS OS 3.1.2 using PwnageTool 3.1.4 for MAC OS X . PwnageTool is a Mac and Mac only tool. There is no equivalent for Windows and no one knows yet when such a tool for Windows will be released.

If you updated your iPhone via iTunes to 3.1.2 or if you bought your iPhone with 3.1.2 pre-installed, you will be able to jailbreak it, however, you will not be able to unlock it. On the other hand. if you are still on 3.0 or if you have updated to 3.1 using PwnageTool, you preserved your baseband and you will be able to unlock using UltraSn0w.

This tutorial is written for both the iPhone 3G and 3GS. The steps are identical. The only thing that changes is the file you have to download in order to create your custom IPSW.

How to jailbreak iPhone 3G/3GS 3.1.2:

Step 1: Make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest version of iTunes.

Step 2: Create a folder called “jailbreak” on your desktop. Download and save the following files to this “jailbreak” folder (all these files can be downloaded here):

• PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X
• If your iPhone is a 3GS: 3.1.2 for iPhone 3GS (iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw)
• If your iPhone is a 3G: firmware 3.1.2 for iPhone 3G (iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw)

Note that I highly suggest downloading these files with FireFox as Safari usually creates issues.

Step 3: Launch PwnageTool. It should give you a warning message. Click OK.

Step 4: Select “Expert Mode”.

Step 5: Select your device then click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 6: If PwnageTool doesn’t automatically find the correct IPSW file, click “Browse for IPSW” and locate it (it should be in your “jailbreak folder”).

Click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 7: You will now have several options. Choose “General” and click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 8: Under “General Settings”, you have the option to activate the phone or not. This is a very important step and I’m pretty sure that we’re going to have a bunch of comments related to this setting, so please read carefully.

If you have a contract with an official carrier (such as AT&T in the US, or Orange in France, etc…), do not activate.

If you do not have a contract with an official carrier (ie. you want to unlock for another carrier), you have to activate. Then you will have to install UltraSn0w from Cydia in order to fully unlock the phone.

You will know you didn’t choose the right option if you don’t have signal after jailbreaking.

You don’t have to, but I suggest increasing the root partition size to somewhere around 700MB, just to be on the safe side. When you’re done, click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 9: You are now taken to the “Bootneuter settings”. All of them should be greyed out. Click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 10: You are now taken to the “Cydia settings”. From here, you may download packages so you don’t have to manually do it later. For example, you may download WinterBoard, which would be installed during the pwnage process. Let’s keep things simple and skip this step which is not necessary. Click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 10: You are now taken to the “Custom packages settings”. I highly suggest only selecting Cydia as Icy can be very buggy sometimes. Click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 11: You are now taken to the”Custom logos settings”. You can choose to add the default logos (see below) or you can add your own logos. If you choose to add your own, make sure the images are not larger than 320 x 480. I personally don’t like these custom logos so I uncheck them all and keep my stock logos. Click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 12: We’re almost done! You now have to build the custom IPSW. Click “Build” and click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 13: Save your custom IPSW to the “jailbreak” folder we created in step 2.

Step 14: PwnageTool will now start building your custom IPSW. Be patient… It can take up to 15 minutes.

Step 15: PwnageTool will ask you if your iPhone has been pwned before. If you’re not sure, just click NO.

Step 16: If your iPhone was previously jailbroken, you can skip to step 19. If your iPhone wasn’t already jailbroken, follow the following directions.

If your iPhone isn’t plugged to your computer yet, plug it. Don’t open iTunes. If iTunes launches automatically, close it. PwnageTool will now deliver the payload.

Step 17: After successfully delivering the payload, PwnageTool will put your iPhone in recovery mode and you should get the following message. Click OK.

Step 18: iTunes should pop up saying it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode and that you must restore. Click OK.

Step 19: We are going to restore your iPhone using the custom IPSW you built. In iTunes, hold the “Alt/Option” key and click “Restore” at the same time. DO NOT click “Restore” without holding the “Alt/Option” key! A dialog box will pop up and you’ll be able to choose the custom IPSW file you created that was saved to your “jailbreak” folder.

Step 20: Navigate to the “jailbreak” folder and select the custom IPSW we created:

• iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore.ipsw for iPhone 3GS, or
• iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore.ipsw for iPhone 3G

Step 21: iTunes will now restore your iPhone using the custom firmware which could take a while, so relax. When done, your iPhone will reboot and you will now have a jailbroken iPhone.

Its been a really long time since I last posted here. But I feel it’s my duty to keep the ‘Underground Community’ informed about the information I have access to. Personally, I feel that the ‘Underground’ has lost its true meaning, its sense of presence – after 3 WordPress bans and removing of  ’Objectionable’ Content on the blog. I still believe that V1 i.e. this blog is a better way to communicate with the community rather than V2 as this blog is better known. Also, I feel that this ‘ban’ has limited my potential in terms of a writer here.

iPhone 3.0 Explained

Now to move on to the topic for which this post was actually written. I’m sure that most of you have heard of the new 3.0 update from Apple to the iPhone; and the subsequent release 3.0.1. If you have not, then let me give you a brief expansion:

The iPhone 3.0 update came out with the iPhone 3GS on June 17, 2009. It can be compared to the Windows 7 release: much awaited features were added which increased stability and enchanced user experiece. Apple finally incorporated many of the features we asked for Among them, some are:

1. Copy and Paste Text
2. Copy and Paste Photos
3. Search Spotlight – Search your iPhone for anything
4. Search in mail, Calendar and iPod
5. Landscape Keyboard in SMS, Mail and Notes
6. Multimedia Messaging or MMS
7. Support for new Calendar types
8. Improved Stocks Application
9. Connect iPhones/iTouches with bluetooth
10. Notes syncing with iTunes

iPhone 3.0 is available for all iPhone, iPhone 3Gs, and iPod Touches. Some features won’t be available for first generation iPhones, while iPod Touch OS downloads won’t come free – it costs $9.95. To download, you can visit Apple’s Software Update page.

iPhone 3.0 Unlocked/Jailbreaked

Lets get started with the ‘main’ thing now This guide has been written in such a way that even your grandmother can use it Lets Start!

Step 1: Make sure you have upgraded to iTunes version 8.2 and backup your iPhone data by synchronizing it with iTunes.

Step 2: Download an appropriate IPSW (An IPSW file is nothing but a .zip file)  file. Choose the link according to your iPhone version: like 2G, 3G or 3GS:

1. iPhone 3.0.0 IPSW file (2G)
2. iPhone 3.0.0 IPSW file (3G)
3. iPhone 3.0.0 IPSW file (3GS)

Step 3: Download Bootloader File 3.6 and Bootloader File 4.9 which will be required during the Jailbreaking process.

Step 4: Download RedSn0w to Unlock the iPhone. (Torrent File)

Unlocking iPhone 2G (Unlocking 3G and 3GS down below)

Unlocking

Step A: Connect your iPhone to the Computer via USB and launch iTunes.
Step B: Go to the iPhone tab and you will see the following screen:

STEP C: Now, hold the SHIFT key and click the “Restore” button. iTunes will launch a file dialog for you to select the firmware file. Locate the “iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” for iPhone 2G/ “iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” for iPhone 3G/ “iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” for iPhone 3GS that you have downloaded in Step 2 and click “OPEN”:

STEP D: iTunes will then restore your iPhone with firmware 3.0 (or what so called iPhone 3.0 OS). Keep your iPhone connected, don’t touch it and wait until the process completes.

Unlocking Started!

Jailbreaking iPhone 2G/3G/3GS

STEP A): Now, your iPhone should be completely restored to firmware 3.0. But it’s not activated right now as you can see from iTunes.

STEP B: Open RedSn0w which you downloaded in STEP 4, you will see the following screen:

STEP D: Click “Browse” and locate the “iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” for iPhone 2G/ “iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” for iPhone 3G/ “iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” for iPhone 3GS that you have downloaded in Step 2 and click “OPEN”:

STEP E: Make sure you select Cydia and Unlock so that you unlock your iPhone as well as you have the system to have 3rd party apps on your iPhone.

STEP F: In the the next step, choose the Bootloader files 3.9 and 4.6 which I made you download in Step 3:

STEP G: Make sure your iPhone is switched off and attached to the computer through the USB cable.

Make Sure your iPhone is OFF and Connected!

STEP H: Next up, RedSn0w will guide you through the DFU process, whereby your iPhone will go in DFU mode. Just follow the process exactly and Bob’s your Uncle!

STEP I: Now let RedSn0w complete the jailbreaking process. First, your iPhone will reboot after the DFU process is completed. Then, RedSn0w will upload the new RAM Disk (keeping it short and simple: you iPhone is being Jailbroken, dont touch it!) After this, RedSn0w will give you a message saying the Jailbroken process was successful. Click “Finish”.

Jailbrake Complete!

STEP J: Voila! Your iPhone 2G/3G/3GS is jailbreaked!

Unlock iPhone 3G or 3GS (i.e. make it work with any SIM)

*Note: You must have already Jailbroken your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS before you come the the unlocking process. So make sure you have done that!

*Note2: Keep your SIM outside the phone at all times!

STEP A: Launch Cydia on your iPhone.

STEP B: You should see 2 options: Packages and Sources

STEP C: Go to Packages -> Edit -> Add & Enter repo666.ultrasn0w.com URL as a repository URL.

STEP D: Now Go back to Your Cydia Sources menu and you should see the Ultrasn0w package!

1. Go to Packages and type http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com; 2. Go to Sources; 3. Select Ultrasn0w; 4. Download Ultrasn0w!

STEP E: Press Home button and Power Off your iPhone. Then insert your SIM card

STEP F: Turn on your iPhone 3G and wait for the carrier to pop up. If it doesn’t, repeat STEP E and STEP F again.

So we packed up the car with our beach paraphernalia and headed back to Lake Bolsena for what we thought would be a relaxing end to the day.

I swear its about 15 degrees cooler at the lake.  The girls had a blast until a mix up led Sophia to get lost from us and give us the scare of our lives as we searched the beach for her and couldn’t see her anywhere.  Finally a woman who had been sitting near us pointed far down the beach and we spied Sophia, crying, walking with a little girl and a dad.  We don’t know how Sophia got past us to begin with but somehow she had wandered from the playground back to beach right when we were heading to the playground to catch up with her and Isabel.  That feeling of panic, of not knowing where your child had disappeared to, and then not speaking the language well enough to articulate it to strangers (una bambina?  Sette ani! Pleaded in a frightened voice) is beyond horrifying.  Luckily it all worked out.  And hopefully she now understands why we talk about not wandering off and keeping together.    I’m sick just writing about it now.

After that eventful end to our day we headed home to cook all of that wonderful pasta, have an early dinner and head to bed to prepare for our early morning departure to Venice!

There we go, Iphone-dev folks have already came up with mechanism to unlock the new Iphone 3.0 firmware update for 3G.  The pineapple faced spokesperson has claimed that the new jail breaking software is applicable for any Iphone 3G mobile.

Ultrasn0w is an updated version of Yellowsn0w, the first software based unlock The dev team has pullback the dates to release the software to make sure that it is out after Apple releases 3G S on friday. The dev team sounded pretty serious abt the next version of jail breaking software in their blog post -

Well, them boyz at the iPhone Dev Team released on June 6th, 2009 the all new iPhone 3G Unlock for the 2.2.1 with a baseband of 2.3x.xx. Yes, this is the full unlock for all 3G iPhone’s that are firmware version 2.2.1 with any 2.3 baseband. I thought that was pretty damn unbelievable myself until I tried this new Yellowsn0w version.

I must say Yellowsn0w is a pretty damn awesome company. Offering the best iPhone Unlock software for free! Shitttt, who could complain. Right? Well, there is a catch.
