Das iPhoto Update 8.1.1 verbessert und optimiert die Gesichtserkennung. Auch Probleme bei der Buchbestellung und die Unterstützung des iPod Touches wurden behoben.

Man, oh man! I feel like I have been on hiatus from blogging! Well, I am back and oh I have missed thee.

I don’ t know if it is because the holiday’s are getting closer (oh my goodness the holiday’s are getting closer! When did Thanksgiving decide it was going to be this week?!?), but I feel like I’ve been running a mile a minute in all directions and haven’t had time to catch my breath. All good things, and no complaints, just a very full life

Speaking of holiday’s… …I have had a vision in my head for a couple of month’s now regarding what Scott and I could do as a first Holiday card as a married couple.  Well, Sunday, we went out, did a little Goodwill shopping, and made my vision a reality.  I don’t want to give it all away, but here a few little teasers

The latest iPhoto release has some sort of face recognition and it’s still fairly crude. It’s also fairly confrontational. I selected a photograph of myself and watched a decade of images of my own face appear on screen. On some I weighed ten kilo’s less, on some I weighed ten kilo’s more. On all of them I had smoother skin and less wrinkles. Shocking. And the hair! I’m glad digital photography was not around in the eighties or I would have killed myself out of sheer embarassment.

iPhoto had some surprising suggestions. It thought I was BF’s middle-aged male friend. It thought BF was an ex-lover. I wondered what it’ll do when I process Dog… But best yet, it thought my mate Ike was a fluffy dessert (served at de Bazaar, Rotterdam).

Slideshows – digitally speaking – are an interesting way to present your images (or your holiday photos *wink*). We’re going to explore, over the next few weeks, many different ways to create slideshows – from the free to the inexpensive to the luxurious.

Just to be sure – since we’re not actually putting slides in a projector and projecting them – what do we mean by a slideshow? What we mean is a slideshow is something that stands alone – it is a finished product – like a video – that the user watches but doesn’t necessarily interact with. It includes two or more images and it transitions from image to image with or without the user clicking a button.

Furthermore, a slideshow can be a standalone document/file that plays on a user’s computer as a unique way of showcasing a set of images. But it can also play in a browser – like some of the things you’ll see below.

Let’s start simply. If you use a service like Flickr – you can simply link to a set of images and have it play as a slideshow by default. If you want to do this outside of flickr, you can just post a link and the slideshow will play in the browser:

Slideshow #1 – Interesting Images

I simply went to the set in flickr, clicked the Slideshow button, set my options and copied the URL. The link above simply takes the user reading this post and shows them the slideshow in flickr. Pretty easy.

Now – what if I don’t want to host the images on flickr – or anywhere for that fact. What if I just have them on my computer? Well – Photoshop has a nice feature built in (or if you have Adobe Acrobat you can do the same thing) that lets you create a slideshow. Under the File menu of most versions of Photoshop around today, there’s an “Automate” button. Clicking that let’s you create a PDF presentation. You then have to make a few choices:

I’ve simply picked the files I want to include and chosen “Presentation”. I then set the slides to advance automatically every three seconds and to do a dissolve between slides. Clicking “Save” I then have to make two other choices:

On the “General” tab (reached when I clicked “Save” I tend to choose “Smallest File Size”. If I’m viewing on the web, this keeps the file small and easily uploadable. On the “Compression” tab, if I’m doing a slideshow – I turn off all Compression and Resizing. If you aren’t doing a slideshow, you can choose to resize some images. For slideshows however, I turn it all off.

Back on November 6, National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Rocco Landesman made an appearance in Peoria. I photographed his day for ArtsPartners. I haven’t uploaded any of these images to flickr but I did create a slideshow as a PDF. Again – I can’t embed this – but I can showcase it as a link that you can click and it will load it in your browser:

But what if you want a little more? Flickr’s slideshow looks good but it isn’t very customizable. The PDF slideshow does fine – but again – not much in the “bells and whistles” department. Well then, consider a site like Slides.com. With a free membership over there, you can create slideshows from the simple to the extravagent – with effects, music, themes, skins, and the works. You can upload images from sites like Facebook, Flickr, MySpace, etc., or from any URL. In fact if the images are already hosted elsewhere, you just link to them and slides.com does all the work. It’s a pretty nifty interface for something free. And the best part – from the perspective of a blog like this – you can embed the slideshow so it shows up right here in the article. Like this:

So there you go – three fairly easy methods of creating simple slideshows. I’m sure there are many more fairly easy methods (iPhoto, creating movies of still images in mpeg or quicktime formats, mucho etc.) – after all this is the Age of the Interwebs – anything is possible. Down the road we’ll explore two other methods – methods that require you to drop a few bucks – or even a few more bucks (hi honey! I need to buy some new software for the blog!) but that give you a ton of control in your final product.

…oder besser wie blöd kann man nach 3 Jahren Apple Nutzung eigentlich sein.

Ich denke mal die meisten Windows Fans, werden jetzt denken, wenn sie dies lesen, ja endlich mal einer der es Kapiert hat.
Windows ist eben doch besser und wir Windows user wussten dies schon immer.

Haha, weit gefehlt ich bin immer noch Apple Fan und habe weiterhin meine Meinung zu Windoof, mehr muss ich dazu nicht sagen.

Aber nun mal zu dem Grund warum, I´m a stupid apple user.

Also, seit nun mehr 3 Jahren nutze ich Apple und mein erstes Apple Hardware Produkt, war ein MacBook und erst später kamen die anderen nützlichen Dinge hinzu, welche die Jugend heute für so cool hält (zB. Ipod).

So bin ich nun schon seit 3 Jahren ein “eingefleischter apple” Kenner. Dies hat auch zur folge, dass ich immer mal von neuen Apple-Jüngern, in meinem Bekanntenkreis, um rat und tat gebeten werde.

Gut, nun versuche ich mal auf den Punkt, zu kommen. ( tschuldigung muss grad lachen )

Folgendes Problem:
Drei Jahre lang nervt es mich schon, dass es irgendwie nicht funktioniert, auf einfache Art und Weise, Fotos und Videos, von meinen Periphere-Geräten auf meinen Mac zu bekommen. Mit IPhoto kann man ja wundere bar seine Fotos und auch Videos verwalten, aber ich wiiiiillllllll daaaaassss NICHT!

Ich will meine verfickten Videos und Bilder selbst ablegen bzw. verwalten und nicht IPhoto nutzen, verdammt noch mal!!!!!

So genug mit dem fluchen und weiter im Text.

Also da ich iPhoto, nicht nutzen wollte gab es beim Importieren der Medien immer das Problem, dass ich es eben anders machen musste.

Wenn ich dieses Programm nutzte um die Medien von meiner Kamera oder Iphone zu Importieren, dann musste ich die Dateien danach immer wieder, mit Drag & Drop oder der Exportier Funktion in meine Ordner Strukturen bewegen und die Originale aus iP. wieder löschen.

Beim Iphone war dies die mir einzig bekannte Möglichkeit, außer ich schickte mir die Daten per mail oder nutzte Mobile-Me.

Bei meinen anderen Kameras fand ich noch den Weg über einen Cardreader, mit dem ich dann direkt von der SD-Karte die Daten auslesen konnte.
Kurz um, es gibt ja bekanntlich viele Wege nach Rom, aber ich wollte eigentlich einfach nur den, den die meisten von auch wollen. Kamera oder iPhone anschließen, und die Bilder und Videos dort hin schieben wo man sie eben hin haben will.

Windoof Nutzer werden sich jetzt bestätigt fühlen und das denken was sie eben nun mal wahrscheinlich jetzt denken.

Ich hingegen fand ein einfache und schnelle Lösung für mein Problem.

Sicherlich, lachen sich jetzt schon die, welche die Lösung schon lange kennen, den Arsch ab.
Andere denken evtl. jetzt noch, verdammt was für ein App hat der Kerl runter geladen, sag es nun schon endlich.

Die Lösung ist ganz einfach, man sollte hin und wieder einfach mal in die Liste der mitgelieferten Apps schauen, die man bekommt wenn man sich einen Apple Rechner kauft.

Dort bei den Apps auf meinem Rechner fand ich ein Programm was mir einfach 3 Jahre lang nicht aufgefallen ist.

Es nennt sich schlicht und einfach: Digitale Bilder.app.

Wenn man dieses mini Programm nutzt, dann kann jeder auf dem schnellsten weg seine Bilder usw. von der Kamera, egal ob sie Iphone oder ähnlich heißen, direkt nach Rom schicken.
Wer dann zusätzlich, in den Einstellungen des Prog. die Option > Automatisch öffnen beim anschließen einer Kam< wählt, der wird Wunschlos glücklich.

Und da ich 3 Jahre gebraucht habe um dies heraus zu finden, bin ich eben leider, a stupid Apple user

今週末も、相変わらず妻とは別行動のMarrさんです、こんにちは。

四ツ谷駅から青山一丁目駅まで、愛機EOS Kiss Digital Nを片手に、散歩に出かけてきました。今日の東京は天気も良く、穏やかな日差しの中で、良い写真をたくさん撮ることが出来ましたよ〜。いつもに比べて、少しゆっくりした足取りで歩くと、普段は気付かないいろいろなものに気付きます。

たとえば、ちょっと、レトロな「四ツ谷駅」のロゴを発見。

迎賓館赤坂離宮の正面門。なんだか、閑散とした雰囲気が漂います…。

近づいてみると、立派、と言うよりエレガントな感じ。

そうそう、こういう写真が撮りたくて、散歩に出かけました。

黄色い葉が、ステンドグラスのように光を透す様子に、晩秋を感じます。

まだ青い紅葉。この光の入り方に見入ってしまいました。

そして、外苑前の銀杏並木。クリスマスツリーみたいにキレイな形です。

見事な銀杏の葉。きちんと黄色くて扇型をしています。

最後に、上に上に、光に向かって緑から黄色に色を遷していく銀杏の木。あぁ、一眼レフ持っていて良かったー、と思う瞬間です。

ということで、久しぶりにのんびりとした休日を過ごすことが出来ました。

なお、Macで写真を見るときには、iPhotoのスライドショーで観るのが楽しみなのですが、iPhoto 09からは、スライドショーもいろいろと工夫がされています。

従来から、次のスライドに行く際のトランジッションを選ぶことが出来のはもちろん、写真をまるで動画のように動かしながら見せていくKen Burnsエフェクトが使えるiPhotoのスライドショーは大好きだったのですが、今回からはそういったことも踏まえて、テーマを6つの中から選べるのです。そんななかで、最近はSnapshotsのテーマがお気に入りです。

音楽に合わせて、こんなふうに、写真が下から上に、次々と一枚ずつ、すぅーっすぅーっと出てくるんです。

一番手前より後ろにある写真は、徐々にカラーからモノトーンへ変わっていく、こんな細かなこだわりも、アップルらしいですね。

ということで、今日もやはり最後はアップルの話題でした…。では。

iPhoto offers several book options, and was just what I needed to thank my farming friends for allowing a trail of little girls to follow them around their Old MacDonald wonderland, and for tolerating my ever present camera.

There are options for text on each page, and on the dust jacket.

The gift was well received, and I’m thinking I won’t be long resisting the urge to order some of our family photos to be presented this way.

This week I was playing around with the new iPhoto on my MacBook, I have to say that I was impressed by the program, the facial recognition is super fun.

Than later I taught to myself wouldn’t it be nice if i try to recreate some of iPhoto features using Flex (but not the cool face recognition part). So if anyone thinks it would be a cool project to do, and to reveal how everything will be done, let me know

That may be fine if you don’t often venture beyond iPhoto’s borders; but what if you want to take advantage of the advanced image-adjustment tools in programs such as Aperture or Lightrooom?

The good news is you can enjoy the benefits of iPhoto and have some flexibility, too. The secret is to create a referenced library. This means that instead of importing all of your master images into iPhoto, you simply “point” iPhoto to where those originals live—whether on your Mac or on a separate hard drive.

The beauty of the referenced-library approach is that you can also point other applications to these same images. You don’t have to bother with first extracting the photos from iPhoto. This approach works particularly well with programs that use a non-destructive workflow, such as Aperture, Lightroom, or Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw. [read]

What a joy it is to discover a new feature on a piece of software I have used and loved for yonks. With Google’s Picasa 3.5 launched several weeks ago I have been using the face recognition feature to great effect. It is hard work lets be fair but it does a lot of the work for me and it gets easier and faster. Plus, of course, no one is forcing me to sit down and do my entire collection of 10,000 photos in one week but then that’s just the way I am. I love a piece of software that appeals to my vanity and sense of orderliness and face recognition is it.

When I first bought my iMac a few weeks ago I tried importing all my photos into Apple Photo but to be honest like a lot of things Mac I didn’t like the proprietaryness of it and the fact that the face recognition software failed to work and it was a bit simplistic. Some of the tools in the Apple iPhoto were very good for individual editing but the suite that is Picasa just works for me. I wish they would improve the lighting and colour editing as the iPhoto is far superior but the key thing for me was the face recognition.

Once the software had ran through all 10,000 photos you must go through and tell it who people are to start with. Once it has recognized someone with your help it will then trundle off and try and find all the others. It does a very good job and I then had thousands of pictures to confirm or deny identity too. However, once it had done it’s bit I was still left with 5,000 photos I had to manually go through over time. And for me that means as soon as possible.

I can’t understand why it doesn’t recognise some clearly identifiable face pictures over others but hey it’s free and I have a bit of spare time so I am slowly getting there. I am down to 1,500 now so if I go through 500 a day I should be finished by Monday. I will update this blog in the mornings now as I am getting up at 5:30am so I have an hour before I disappear to do other things and it’s a lovely time of the morning, watching the sun rise over lake Michigan and clearing my in-box.

It’s Friday again already and November. I wonder when the first snows will hit. I shall leave you with that thought.

That’s what pops up on my laptop screen when it falls asleep.

You see, for some reason, I have my screen saver set to play a slideshow of my iPhoto gallery.  So whenever I step out of the room for five minutes and come back, there are pictures of weddings looping over and over on the screen.  Now, were I also happily married, I’m sure I’d ooh and aah at each successive picture, and hey, sometimes I do.  But not lately.  Lately, it’s just depressing.

What is it about looking at other people’s happy moments that makes me want to stick a pencil in my ear and jiggle it around?

The fact that it has never been me?  Or the fact that it will never be me?

Or both?

On a happier note, NANO is going really well for me.  I have seven chapters written already and 11,381 words!  Not bad for day six!  I posted my first chapter on TNBW and it’s gotten really positive feedback so far.  I know the TNBW-ers well enough to know they don’t give false praise… at least not all the time

I guess that’s a happy moment, right?  I should take a snapshot of my reviews and upload it to my iPhoto gallery.  Not exactly the same as a happy shot of a bride and groom smashing cake in each others’ faces, but it will have to do for now.

Oh, I got my second rejection from an agent yesterday!    I’m really feeling good about it.  More letters going out today!

Oh, and on the financial trouble front, I’m looking for a new job.  I told one of my bosses yesterday.  I don’t know if I’m going to be able to find one, but I wanted to be upfront with my boss about it.  I don’t really want to quit either of my jobs, but I can’t keep going on the way things are.

So, yeah, now you know what a basketcase I am…

Irgendwie scheint es so zu sein, dass Iphoto 8.1 Perfomance Probleme mit wachsender Anzahl von getagten Gesichtern bekommt.

Ich werde das mal genauer austesten, aber ich kann mir eigentlich nicht vorstellen, dass ein so massives Problem nur bei mir auftritt.

Was mir bei intensiver Benutzung von iPhoto_09 Features auch noch aufgefallen ist, ist dass einige Orte die iPhoto mit Hilfe von GPS Koordinaten ermittelt, schlicht weg falsch sind.

GPS Koordinaten in Regensburg, werden reproduzierbar mit Regensberg versehen. Dieser eine kleine Buchstabe – aber das eine ist eine 100.000er Stadt in Bayern und das andere ein 500 Seelen Dorf in der Schweiz.

Kann mir auch hier nicht vorstellen dass ich der einzige mit diesem Problem bin.
