Cu toate ca dupa absolvirea am ales un alt drum in viata si anume FACULTATEA DE JURNALISM la USM,niciodata nu voi uita anii de la NEAGA.

Sunt foarte mândra, că în experienţa mea muzicala si de viaţă, am întâlnit , concurenţi,prieteni persoane din topul profesioniştilor, foşti elevi ai colegiului şi având adânc imprimată psihologia absolvirii unui colegiu de prestigiu, de care imi amintesc si astazi cu respect şi plăcere. Ca persoană care a plecat pe drumul vieţii cu o bază profesională şi formată pe băncile acestei institutii şi căreia orice contact cu ceva legat direct sau indirect de Ştefan NEAGA îmi trezeşte nostalgia frumoasei vârste a adolescenţei, pot spune că aceşti ani vor rămâme vii în amintirea mea. Doresc ca şi în viitor colegiul şi implicit elevii sai, să confirme şi să-şi îmbunătăţească renumele, cu toate ca inainte era sub numele de republican, iar acum e doar colegiul de muzica nu-l schimba cu nimic.

When the temperature starts dropping it’s time to go on the offensive against ants. Ants are one of the biggest overlooked factors that lead to biological control failures. Many common species “farm” honeydew producing pests, including aphids and mealybugs. They eat and fight off predators, transport pests to new areas, and will even shelter aphids and mealybugs inside their ant mound. Cooler temperatures slow ants down, making them more vulnerable to attack by the vigilant farmer.

Physical disruption of ant nests provides more immediate results. Using a shovel or piece of rebar to break up the ground around the entrance to the colony forces ants that would be foraging to rebuild. If food supplies are low, the ants inside may eat their young. This allows beneficial insects to get to work without interference. Unfortunately, this is only a temporary solution and mounds will need to be repeatedly disturbed to distract the ants from tending to their honeydew source.

Other control measures you can use are nematodes, orange oil drenches, and sticky barriers. Read our Ant Bulletin and our founder Everett J. Dietrick’s paper Argentine Ants Must Be Suppressed for more information on ant control. This fall we’re also offering discounts on ant control supplies.

On an ant control side note, in a field study where they used only sticky barriers for ant control in an organic citrus grove, researchers found more aphids in the trees without ants! Their conclusion was that, as a side effect of excluding ants, they were also protecting the aphids from earwigs. After analyzing the populations of other aphid predators in their grove, they determined that earwigs are one of the main natural controls of aphids in the springtime. Populations of some of the other predators grew in response to growing aphid populations, but not fast enough to control them without the help from the earwigs.

Discussing the study at Rincon-Vitova, we thought of other predators we see a lot in orchards and gardens that would be blocked by sticky barriers – wolf spiders and ground beetles. Releasing aphid predators to back up the naturally occurring ones might have helped the aphid problem in the study grove. Or maybe another method of reducing ant interference without stopping crawling predators from finding the aphids, such as baiting, would have worked better in their case. Aphids can also be blasted off plants with a strong jet of water, which might be a good strategy if you are using sticky barriers. This study is a reminder of how complex these ecological systems are, and that we have to be alert to the unexpected effects our pest control efforts.

A lot has been said about eliminating paper altogether, but printing documents is something we cannot seem to get enough of.

Printing Speed

The number of pages per minute printed is something that is quoted by all printer manufacturers, and we tend to compare numbers from different catalogs without giving it a second thought. However, what exactly is being printed? The printer manufacturers have not, so far, published the documents that they used for the tests. Even the driver setting used to print is usually the draft mode of the printer. All that is about to change with the ISO standards for printer speeds. Now, you can argue that the pages the ISO considers are not representative, but at least it seems to have forced companies to publish according to those standards.

A notorious company with regard to published printing speeds is Canon. Test according to the latest standards show that the printing speed for the their latest and greatest inkjets is only about 20% of the older models. Now, they have not moved the old models from their website, and they mention that they will only benchmark the new (2009) printers with the ISO standard. Lest their duplicity be discovered, they have come up with a new term called ipm–images per minute. The term would make sense if they were printing photos–they are after all, images. However, the standard ISO files are NOT images–they are regular documents, the kind that you would prepare for a report or paper. Note that as of writing of this blog, there is no ISO standard for photo printing.

Print Cartridge Life

A similar idea is that of the life of the cartridge. Once again, the companies that make these cartridges claim all sorts of things with all sorts of details like coverage areas and the like. A 5% coverage area has been bandied about. Once again, ISO has introduced a standard, which is now being followed by the companies concerned.

Cost of Printing

The actual cost of printing is always more than the cost of the paper and ink for a given number of pages. As the printer ages, the problems like paper management grow, and wastage is quite high. If the printer is not brand new, you can forget about things like duplex printing, as there is bound to be an error somewhere, and you might end up discarding the whole lot.

One idea most people would have, considering the cost of print cartridge is–why can’t we refill the cartridges? This would be quite economical, and there are two ways to go about it. One is to manually refill them, with a syringe. Here the quality of the replacement ink is important. Equally important is the need to maintain a good vacuum while refilling. The other method is to have a continuous ink system. This means that you have an external tank(s) which you pour ink into. You can see the level of ink and can probably do it till the head wears out.

 Q: We have carpet beetles. What can you tell us about them to make it easier for us to control them without using pesticides?  J.E., San Francisco

A: Carpet beetles are small, oval beetles about one-fifth of an inch long. They are usually brightly colored and covered with short hairs. The larvae are covered with long hairs and generally have very long hairs at the end of their abdomen. The hairs of the larvae have been known to cause dermatitis, irritation of the nasal passages and sinuses and contribute to allergies. Several species of carpet beetles are found in California. They usually live and breed outdoors but can easily enter a building by flying in or by being carried in on wildflowers, where the adults are often found feeding on nectar. They are normally scavengers that feed on a variety of plant and animal material. They can live very well on household lint, which is composed mostly of skin flakes and hairs. They are found in bird and rodent nests and will feed on dead rodents in a home. They can also feed on natural carpet fibers and clothing. To control carpet beetles, clean the area where they are found thoroughly to remove household lint, pet hairs, crumbs and similar debris.

It is not strange that a printer claiming that it can print a high number of pages per minute (ppm), which always be the first criteria referred by the end user before they decided to buy it. But does it really able to print that fast? I had a Canon ip3300 which just dead couple days ago that have a rating of a whooping (not so I know) 25ppm for black printing in fast (draft) quality. I did some testing last time where I printed a set of document that has around 50 pages, and of course I expect it will be ready for me to collect within 3 minutes. But apparently it did not; took it around 5 minutes to print all the pages that are full of words in draft quality. As a conclusion, the printing speed rating in ppm is not accurate as there is no standard on which type of document (full of words, one line of words etc.) used in the printing speed test. But still ppm is always referred as printing speed for all the different brand printers.

Images per minute (ipm)

So what is ipm? Apparently ipm is used in the new ISO print and copy measurement standards which applicable to inkjet printers launched 2009 onwards. For printing, they have used a set of famous office document application, such as Word, Excel and Pdf (4 pages/set) to do the printing speed test (by measuring the printing time for each set). Let’s have a look on how the ISO applied in printing and copying speed for printer:

Editor’s note

As we all know, ISO always have some very good standard reference for many different things. Back in the day, ppm is always be the first feature that I will look for whenever I buying a printer, but not anymore since there is no standard protocol/procedure to test for the speed. With these new ISO standards applied on printer, not only they are able to tell consumer the true printing power, but it can be an accurate reading for comparison with each of the different printer brand. However, it seems like only Canon Inc. is the only one printer company that applying these ISO (ipm rating), but I am pretty sure that these will become a trend for other printer brand. Why? For me, ppm rating seems longer effective to persuade consumer to buy their printer, and quickly enough consumer will start losing confidence towards the companies that do not want to implement the ISO testing. We shall see, but I am going to get one new printer (with ISO24734/ISO24735 of course) from Canon very soon.

Ada kekeliruan mendasar dalam tulisan ahli kelirumonologi, Jaya Suprana, bertajuk “Kabinet” (Kompas, 17/10).

Kekeliruan terutama pada soal latar belakang pembentukan Kementerian Negara Pemberdayaan Perempuan dan kondisi perempuan Indonesia.

Dibentuknya Kementerian Negara Pemberdayaan Perempuan (istilah yang digunakan kabinet SBY, saat berdiri tahun 1978 bernama Menteri Negara Urusan Peranan Wanita), selain merupakan visi yang amat strategis dam futuristik Presiden Soeharto, juga merupakan komitmen Pemerintah Indonesia terhadap Dasawarsa Perempuan (1975-1985) yang dicanangkan PBB saat itu.

Pencanangan Dasawarsa Perempuan telah menstimulasi gerakan global untuk metasai soal ketidakadilan perempuan yang ditandai, antara lain, maraknya kekerasan terhadap perempuan di lingkup privat/domestik maupun publik, terutama oleh aparat negara dalam keadaan damai, lebih-lebih dalam situasi perang. Salah satu kesepakatan yang dikukuhkan Pasal 3 Konvensi Penghapusan Diskriminasi terhadap Perempuan (1979) adalah pembentukan lembaga yang merupakan Mekanisme Nasional Pemajuan Perempuan.

Keputusan politik ini dimaksudkan untuk kian meningkatkan kedudukan dan peran perempuan guna mencapai kesetaraan dan keadilan jender di berbagai bidang. Tujuannya, meningkatkan kualitas kehidupan berbangsa melalui pengembangan potensi tiap perempuan – agar setara dengan lelaki – sebagai aset bangsa.

Kaum perempuan Indonesia patut berterima kasih kepada Presiden Yudhoyono yang telah memercayakan posisi-posisi strategis bidang ekonomi, perdagangan dan kesehatan kepada perempuan (Kabinet 2004 – 2009). Dalam tulisan Jaya Suprana, prestasi ketiganya (kemajuan ekonomi makro) sulit dibantah.

Ilusi kemajuan

Harus disadari, kemajuan ekonomi makro tidak serta-merta mengangkat derajat kehidupan perempuan. Tengok statistik BPS di bidang kesehatan misalnya, angka kematian ibu masih tinggi (tertinggi di ASEAN) ; angka kematian bayi dengan disparitas daerah yang besar.

Di bidang pendidikan, jumlah anak perempuan yang tak bersekolah dan berpendidikan rendah lebih besar dibandingkan anak lelaki dan masih kurang memasuki bidang iptek. Dalam bidang politik, keterwakilan perempuan di lembaga-lembaga pengambilan keputusan masih rendah.

Di bidang ketenagakerjaan, selain upah lebih rendah, umumnya perempuan ada di sektor informal, seperti TKW, tanpa perlindungan hukum dengan jenis pekerjaan berkarakter yang kotor ; berbahaya, dan penuh tekanan. Mereka korban terdepan binis kriminal perbudakan seksual dan perdagangan manusia.

Di bidang hukum, banyak peraturan tingkat nasional dan daerah yang menempatkan perempuan sebagai obyek seksual/sumber maksiat, misal UU Perkawinan, UU Pornografi, dan Perda Tangerang.

Belum lagi aneka bentuk diskriminasi sosial-budaya dan tafsir agama yang berkompikasi amat dalam terhadap kemiskinan, yang berwajah perempuan. Jumlah perempuan miskin juga yang terbesar. Semua itu menyadarkan kita, pengagungan peran ibu selama ini hanya ilusi.

Dari fakta-fatjta ini, anggapan Jaya Suprana bahwa perempuan Indonesia lebih maju dibandingkan negara lain, bahkan AS, sungguh keliru besar.

Terjerembab

Turunnya Indeks Pembangunan Manusia (IPM) dari 108 (tahun 2006-2008) ke peringkat 111 (2009) harus menyadarkan kita, khususnya pengambil keputusan, ada yang salah dalam strategi pembangunan. Ketimpangan jender yang menjadi salah satu tolok ukur IPM, khususnya angka kematian ibu, menyebabkan Indonesia ada di peringkat terburuk. Mengapa angka kematian ibu ? Karena di situ tercermin aneka masalah negeri ini.

Kemajuan pembangunan manusia mensyaratkan kabinet berperspektif jender. Semoga yang dipilih sebagai menetri dan pimpinan lembaga setingkat menteri mampu mengintegrasikan perspektif jender dalam tiap kebijakan departemen atau lembaganya.

Menjadikan Kementerian Negara pemberdayaan Perempuan sebagai lembaga yang sudah berperspektif jender dalam kabinet jauh dari mencukupi untuk mengatasi ketertinggalan, ketimpangan (sosial dan jender), dan kemiskinan absolut. Apalagi untuk mencapai Tujuan Pembangunan Milebium (MDGs), yang terkait pada kondisi perempuan.

Tujuan MDGs – mengurangi kemiskinan, meningkatkan kesehatan perempuan dengan menurunkan angka kematian ibu dan bayi, memastikan tiap anak menyelesaikan pendidikan menegah, memutar balik angka HIV/AIDS, yang korbannya kian banyak perempuan, menghentikan kerusakan lingkungan (beban tambahan perempuan miskin) – seharusnya menjadi paradigma tiap anggota kabinet SBY.

Hanya dengan begitu, target pembangunan yang dicanangkan SBY dalam pidato kenegaraan Agustus lalu akan tercapai.
