My  iPod was stolen on the subway some weeks ago. My spastic attacks caused by lack of music are heavily increasing and I felt earlier that it is now time to do something about it and buy a new iPod! So I’m looking over my options..

iPod Shuffle

Positivt: Vill faktiskt inte ha någon display så denna är perfekt. Liten och smidig, snygg.

Positive: I do not like having a display which this one hasn’t. It is tiny and trendy.

Negativt: Knapparna sitter på hörlurarna och går enligt säkra källor lätt sönder!

Negative: The buttons are on the headphones which break easily!

iPod Nano

Positivt: Stort minne, smidig, bra display (om man gillar sånt)

Positive: Lot of memorie, good display (if you’re in to that)

Negativt: iPod Nano som säljs nu har alla fiolmkamera vilket jag verkligen inte vill ha. Kameran är dessutom av dålig kvalitet. Display haha. Krångliga och high tech!

Negative: iPod Nano has got a camera which is something I do not want on my iPod, the camera is also of bad quality. It has got a display haha. Too complicated and high tech for Tora!

In the timeframe of a little over a month I’ve went from having no Apple products to having an ipod touch, an macbook pro, an ipod shuffle and my shiny new iPhone 3GS. I am officially skint, but is it all worth it? Damn right it is.
It started with the macbook pro:

I wanted a new laptop so I could get back into my writing and since then…I kind of have, but this is the best laptop (or macbook, although I believe it is still considered a laptop) I have ever owned. From the brushed aluminium casing, which feels totally solid and looks gorgeous compared to that slightly iffy white plastic macbooks, to the little details like the battery indicator on the side and the lit-up keyboard; I’m writing this right now in total darkness and I can see perfectly because of this beauty of a keyboard so, in a way, the macbook is saving me money. The battery indicator is very cool because even if it’s not on you can always find out how much battery is left by pressing the button whereupon several lights will come up showing you how much you’ve got left. It’s these sorts of little details that make a good product great.

I bought this out of the Apple store and I have to say one thing: I have a new favourite store. The staff are extra friendly and will help you with anything that you might need, answer any question you may have and even set up your iPhone in-store. They also set up classes and things like that in case you need hep with your new computer, which is great although I do believe it costs money. And, again, there is little details that make it great: when I was buying it I was aked if I wanted my reciept printed or e-mailed, which is very forward-thinking so now I have a permanent reciept in my inbox that I can print off whenever I need it which is handy for someone like myself who loses things on a semi-regular basis.

The box for the Macbook Pro 13-Inch

The box it came in was surprisingly small; Apple now use as little packaging as possible and what they do use they make eco-friendly. More forward-thinking from Apple.

After buying and loving the Macbook Pro 13-incher my friend from the workplace decided to sell his ipod touch first generation so I bought it because it was a good deal. I didn’t really use it but what it made me do was want an iPhone which I have just had for a week and I might just write a separate post for, at which point I probably will have the Apple logo tattooed to my butt.
And I also bought an ipod shuffle, the reasoning being that I would use it in the gym except I’ve been incredibly lazy so I’ve not been since I bought it. The sound seems pretty good from an mp3 player that is smaller than my pinky but I can’t really say how it is during intense gym sessions but I may not even use it since I got the iPhone, which is lighter than I expected. I will see.
Anyway, I’m now skint on the way up to Christmas after buying all this for myself and I still have many presents to purchase. Oh dear, maybe I’ll ask Steve Jobs for a job.

Es un iPod, para que después nadie diga que es falso.

Es más pequeño que un meñique, imaginar qué pequeño. Está en dos modelos: 2GB y 4GB (55 y 75 euros, respectivamente). Y está en cinco colores: azul, rosa, verde, plateado y negro (yo tengo el negro). Además hay una edición especial en acero inoxidable, sólo se puede comprar en el Apple Store (http://store.apple.com/es), y vale 95 euros (sólo en 4GB).

Hablando de botones, no están en el iPod, están en los auriculares.

FREE IPOD SHUFFLE WITH A PURCHASE OF $2,500

I usually take my ipod shuffle to the gym with me but recently I’ve been busy with other stuff so didn’t get to go for a week. So yesterday, I decide to go but I couldn’t find my ipod shuffle anywhere. Then I remember that I left it in my pants, the same cargo pants I where at the gym and then realized…. I WASHED THEM! So I checked the pockets and there was my ipod shuffle and praying it still worked. I connected to the computer and nothing happened…. then 10 seconds later it turned ON! Tested it out and everything works. Wow, this Apple is strong, locks like their made to survive the spin cycle!

i believe that the music one listens to (or doesn’t listen to), opens a small window to one’s soul.  once you take a peek, you can get some (if not very vague but still salient) insight to that person.

erasure is a guilty pleasure…well hell, so are the pet shop boys.  and to be perfectly honest, i had no idea that jack johnson found his way onto my ipod.  couldn’t even tell you how those songs go.

Es gibt gute und schlechte, große und kleine, sensationelle und weniger interessante, durchschlagende und in Vergessenheit geratene, nützliche und unnütze Erfindungen. Und es gibt jene, die man selbst für die größten aller Zeiten hält. Nicht ganz so groß, aber dennoch sehr interesant, nützlich und ein klein wenig sensationell ist für mich zumindest die Erfindung des wasserdichten Ipod Shuffles. Also des “Koffers”, der den MP3-Player wasserdicht umschließt. Zusammen natürlich mit den wasserdichten Ohrhörern. Wer, wie ich, gern schwimmt, und dies auch oft tut, der wird mich verstehen. Und auch, warum ich mir dieses Teil gekauft habe.

Denn das Einzige, was neben quer schwimmenden und im Weg stehenden Senioren in der Schwimmhalle noch stört, sind die Hallenbad-Geräusche. Die sich durch den Hall in der Halle verstärken und von überall her auf einen einstürzen. Dies ist nun Geschichte für mich. Ich höre jetzt meine Lieblings-Mucke. Über und unter Wasser. Ein kurzer Griff und der Player ist samt Hülle an der Schwimmbrille befestigt. Die wasserdichten Hörer eingestöpselt und los geht. Schwimmen und Tauchen mit Mucke.

Das Teil bleibt immerhin bis 3 Meter Tiefe dicht. Und spielt Musik. Was für ein Gefühl, wenn man zum ersten Mal unter Wasser “Stille” von “Pankow” hört. Oder Justin Sullivans “Ocean Rising”. Oder wenn das Klavier von Diana Kralls “Narrow Daylight” erklingt.

Da kann man schon einmal vergessen, dass man eigentlich zum Schwimmen hier ist. Beim ersten Test war es denn auch so. Irgendwann stellte ich verwundert fest, dass ich meine geplante Strecke von 1250 Metern weit überschritten hatte. Denn statt der geplanten 40 war ich bereits 60 Minuten im Wasser. Bahn für Bahn, Titel für Titel. Oder wohl eher umgedreht. Musik hören und nebenbei Schwimmen. Dit is schau. Und erinnert mich außerdem an unseren schönen Urlaub dieses Jahr. Denn erworben habe ich das Teil, nach vergeblichen Mühen in Deutschland, in Miami Beach.

Yesterday at 6:15 a.m. when I got ready to run my 12-miler, I paused at my iMac and checked the outside temperature widget.

67 degrees. On November 15. Too warm for running comfortably. Much too warm.

The second-generation iPod Shuffle

So I decided my best strategy was to drink a lot of water, consume several GU energy gels, and opt for music on my iPod Shuffle that might help me forget that 67 degrees will be at least 70 degrees in an hour. Yep, I broke my longstanding rule about not listening to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving.

Of course, hearing “Oh, the weather outside is frightening,” just reinforced the feeling that the conditions were awful. But I always tend to jolly up when I hear holiday songs . . . whether Christmas, Chanukah, or generic . . . so I figured I had nothing to lose.

We don’t see much of Frosty the Snowman here in south Texas (in fact, my sons have only experienced snow twice in their lives; it seemed almost miraculous to them), but the song always puts a smile on my face. Even when I’m slogging through mile eight wishing a breeze would start to blow the stale, hot air.

The Christmas songs I like best are sung a cappella (Rockapella, the Blenders, and the Groove Barbers are personal favorites) or played acoustically on guitar (Doug Smith and Ed Gerhard are especially gifted musicians). But what I really prefer best? Anything that takes my mind off the one-foot-in-front-of-the-other death shuffle as heat is rising off the pavement, and I’m starting to mentally crater at mile 10.

Listening to those holiday classics did help raise my spirits during most of the long run. However, none of the tunes were as uplifting as one wonderful sight: My front door when I finally finished!

Apple’s Upper West Side Apple Store has been monitored in great detail before it opened until yesterday. Waiting with excitement, the fourth Apple store in NYC opened with a warmth in the air. Hundreds? of employees all sporting red t-shirts welcomed people into the new glass heaven. For no reason at all, applause would break out every so often. When I asked one of the jolly employees what the just happened, he replied with “We just like clapping!” I grilled him on if they were clapping randomly all day and he said yes. My first thought was someone was the one millionth customer and won something like an Apple product or something. Guess not.

The spyshots that revealed the store made the retail look much larger and higher than it is in reality. While the glass roof is relatively high, the actual feel of the space inside seems rather cramped. The tubular staircase seems a little stuffed into the left corner of the store as soon as you walk in.

iPods, iPhones, iMacs and MacBooks fill the ground floor, while heading downstairs reveals the Genius Bar (kind of small), software selection, iPod/iPhone/Mac accessories and kiddie iMac/education tables.

To be frank, the store is nothing to write about. There are a lot more MacBook Pros scattered across the two floors, but face it, it’s just giving more Wi-Fi freeloaders a space to hang. Now all the kids from the nearby Martin Luther King High School have a place to bum when they cut class.

Apple continues to grow Apple stores in NYC, but the last two have been a let down (Upper West Side and Meatpacking District/West 14th St). Next time Apple, please bring something new to the table that will really get us all excited. Multi-touch kiosks or big screens or something!

The visit to the new Apple store wasn’t a total bust though. I got to check out the new aluminum Apple remote and it is BIG. I like the old one better although the new one does have a more solid feel to it.

A novidade é:
Os novos iPods Touch (32GB e 64GB) estão disponíveis na Apple Store Br agora! O de 32GB está custando R$999,00 e o de 64GB R$1.249,00. O de 8GB que já estava vendendo continua com o seu preço, R$679,00.
Mesmo com um preço ainda salgado, você pode dividir em 12x sem juros…

Para quem já tem um Touch 2G não vale muito a pena a compra, por causa do pequeno upgrade. Mas se você tem um iPod Touch 1ª Geração ou não tem iPod Touch eu recomendo a compra!
