The iPod Touch or iPhone can actually be used to hack into peoples confidential data. Not in the general term but to packet sniff/ARP Posion. If you dont know what packet sniffing I would prefer not to explain it to you and for you smart little people out there to use www.google.com. Anyways there is an application in Cydia that I have recently been informed about called Pirni. Pirni is a very simple packet sniffer/ARP Posioner. Basically you log into a network from your iPod Touch fire up the Terminal.app provided that you have installed pirni and than basically become the router. To do this you need to know the routers IP address typically it is 192.168.1.1 if not find it on the network dont ask me how. Than follow the below instructions to fire up Pirni.

How to use Pirni

1st. Type su

2nd. Password:Alpine , unless you have changed it.

3rd. Now type in as one large command

pirni -s *ip of the router useually 192.168.1.1* -o *filenameuwant*.pcap

4th. Thats it leave your iPod sniffing packets for as long as you want once your done on your computer using WinSCP or some other client go to /var/mobile/*whateveryouputafter-o*.pcap. Than copy that to your desktop.

5th. Last download WireShark or some like program on the pc and go through the dump thats it.

ps. For all you none googlers I kindly added a little chart of what arp poisin is.

Hey guys, it’s me Lonman, incase you have forgotten all about me One reason I have been absent

Hey guys, it’s me Lonman, incase you have forgotten all about me One reason I have been absent is because I have been so busy with school. The second is the lack of news in the jailbreaking world. I think the main reason for this has been all the cool apps and games (Raging Thunder to name one) that come out everyday on Apple’s much advertised App Store.

Developers who became famous during the installer.app era have quickly realized that they could make a good deal of money actually selling there work through the App Store. This is why the interest in jailbreaking has really dried up.

I will continue to post hacking news when I do see something that is worth writing about. As I have already stated about, there isn’t a lot of this hacking news anymore, so to keep everyone entertained I am going to post about new apps and games released on the App Store. And in this department I can surely say there is much to write about!

This post was originally intended to be a post solely on Raging Thunder, but I felt like I had to explain why I have been absent as of late to all you out there who come back here everyday looking for new news.

OK, sorry for the rambling. Raging Thunder, I know all you guys who had jailbroken iPod Touches back on 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 had this game. I certainly did! During that time, this game was in early development, hence the flashing “Demo” on the screen.

About a week ago, the full game was released on the App Store. It costs $7.99, not a bad price for a full featured 3-D racing game in my opinion. Of course I purchased this game, I just had to have it since I had it back in the day.

For all of you who remember the Raging Thunder installer.app version, you will not be disappointed with the full release. The controls are great and the graphics and game play is much smoother than the demo version. To get a better idea of this game, take a look at the video below.

If you have the $7.99 to spare I would strongly suggest picking this game up. As always please feel free to leave any comments or questions right here or over at the forums.

It feels good to be back!!

Video of how it Works!

My wife and I went on a trip the other day that wasn’t too far away so I decided to look up directions on my Touch. Little did I know I discovered a trick that most of you probably know but I just found it out.

If you seek directions from one place to the next, view in satellite or hybrid, or just plain, and click through each turn while connected to WIFI and let it clarify, it will remember it!

I didn’t think it would work, and it did take a minute to click through each part of the trip to let it load, but it was well worth the wait with a sort of GPS like feature without being connected to GPS or the internets.

Just a little tip for all those travelers who are limited by Verizons unfortunate pride with their red programming on all of the phones.

Firmware 2.0.2 has been released for the iPod Touch. There really isn’t anything too exciting about this release.

The only note from Apple on the 2.0.2 release is “Bug Fixes”. Usually this means that there were some issues that required immediate attention from Apple, hence the release to fix these “Bugs”.

As of right now it does appear that there are some issues pwning/jailbreaking this new firmware, so I would suggest that all of you hold off until more information on pwning 2.0.2 is released. As always I will keep you all updated so keep checking back for more information on 2.0.2.

Head on over to the forums if you have any questions or comments on the new 2.0.2 firmware that has been released for the iPod Touch.

NES 2.3.0 has been released for the iPod Touch. If you haven’t already done so, I would strongly recommend doing so for one main reason that I have stated below.

After you update to 2.3.0 just reboot and you will see a new setting ACCELEROMETER! When this setting is enabled you will be able to control NES games by moving the iPod Touch! Imagine playing Mario this way (I haven’t tried this yet, but I have heard it works well with Pacman).

Keep in mind that NES 2.3.0 works very well with the 2.0 firmware.

**ALERT** NES 2.3.0 is currently only available on Cydia, not Installer.

The iPhone Dev Team has released version 2.0 of the Pwnage tool for the iPod Touch. This software will give you the ability to jailbreak your iPod Touch on 2.0 and install custom 2.0 firmware. Please remember to keep in mind that Pwnage 2.0 is designed to only work on a Mac, a Windows version hasn’t been released at this time.

I have added a bunch of download links for the software as well as the post from the Dev Team on the Pwnage 2.0 release. Also included in the set of links below is a nicely put together guide from sleepers.net on how to use the software.

List of helpful links:

iPhone Dev Team announcement on Pwnage 2.0

Please keep in mind that it is illegal to post links that allow the 2.0 firmware for the iPod Touch to be downloaded for free, for this reason I can’t post the 2.0 firmware that is needed to be used with Pwnage 2.0. Once you have purchased the 2.0 firmware, you will be able to use Pwnage 2.0 and install all those great installer.app 3rd party applications again.

If you have any questions or run into any problems with Pwnage 2.0 on your iPod Touch please post them over at the forums, that is why they are there.

How many of you opened up iTunes this morning and saw that there was an update available to firmware 2.0 on your iPod Touch? Well, it’s been there since 9am EST this morning and you still don’t have the new firmware. What’s the reason for this you ask?

Well basically, Apple is a little bit overwhelmed today and they are having a lot of trouble with there activation servers, which is why you keep getting that “can’t connect to iTunes” message when you try to purchase the update. They have been working on fixing this all day and it is still not working.

User paul over at the forums has posted a thread on how you can manually download the firmware. Since I’m not exactly sure of the legality of downloading this firmware I am not going to post the actual instructions on how to manually do this. I am going to point you over to the actual thread and you can decide for yourself if you want to go this route.

I would expect the official release of the 2.0 firmware for the iPod Touch to come sometime today, I know how painful it is to wait, so if you go ahead and try to download the 2.0 firmware from the thread I posted, post any comments or questions over at the forums.

**UPDATE** The link has been taken down, looks like it is back to a waiting game for 2.0 now.

Well, what can I say, it appears that iPhone Dev Team has already unlocked and jailbroken the 2.0 firmware. This is very impressive since it has not even been officially released yet to the public.

The bad news about this story is that as of right now it will require the PwnageTool, which means you will need a mac to do this. The Dev Team hasn’t set a release date for this yet, but I think we can expect it pretty soon.

While windows users may be a bit upset about this story, there is some good news here as well. Since the framework seems to already be set for hacking 2.0, it shouldn’t be long until everyone can jailbreak 2.0 on their iPod Touch!

I will continue to keep you all updated on the progress of the 2.0 jailbreak from a windows and a mac perspective. As always you can always see the latest news over at the forums.

I know a lot of you iPod Touch users are anxiously awaiting the launch of the App Store and the 2.0

I know a lot of you iPod Touch users are anxiously awaiting the launch of the App Store and the 2.0 firmware. While I can’t confirm this 100%, the rumor on the street is that we will see the launch of the App store Thursday at 9am PST or 12pm EST.

Since the new 3G iPhone launches in New Zealand on July 11th at midnight local time, this means it will be July 10th at 5am Pacific time due to the time differences in the United States. It would only make sense that the App Store and the 2.0 firmware would be released shortly after in the United States.

For those of you who are going to rush and upgrade to the new firmware, I just want to say a few things:

Since the 2.0 firmware is more secure and as a result harder to hack, it will likely take a longer time to Jailbreak it.

If you upgrade and the decide you want to go back to 1.1.4, I am not 100% sure that it will be possible to downgrade from 2.0 to 1.1.4. Of course I am going to upgrade to 2.0 myself and see if it can be done. I will keep you all posted.

Once 2.0 is released, I will make a new post describing the firmware as well as some of the apps available from the App store.

It’s going to be a crazy few weeks now guys! I hope everyone is ready!

This isn’t exactly a hack for the iPod Touch or anything, but with 2.0 looming over the horizon I think a lot of you will find this pretty cool.

Yesterday, Apple released a pre-release version of iTunes 7.7 to developers. Inside the Read Me of the iTunes installer there was this:

Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later. Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home — a free download from the App Store.

Apple reveals that they will be offering a free app on the App Store that allows you to remotely control iTunes in your home from your iPhone or iPod Touch. The application will presumably work under Wi-Fi to control playback of iTunes.

This is indeed a nice little surprise from Apple! With the release of iTunes 7.7 and firmware 2.0 your iPod Touch will also be a remote control for iTunes!

I’m sure a lot of you guys out there used the iphoneroms repo to get some ROMs (that you owned of course) for your iPod Touch. For those who are wondering why it doesn’t work any more, the reason is because the website is down. I recently got an e-mail from iphoneroms.com and because of the great work they did on this repo I want to share it with all of you.

Hi Lonman,

I need your help, basically www.iphoneroms.com is down at the moment, the reason is we didnt make enough in donations to keep it running, we need to get about €130 per month to keep it online but we only got €38.

We introduced the VIP Repo to try and raise donations but it didnt work either. Basically i was hoping you could write up a story and ask people to donate to us to get us back online, as soon as we are back online we will make all PSX Roms available to everyone as the VIP Idea didnt really take off but we need to get back up and running and we need €92 to do that.

Id really appreciate the help man. The link to donate is

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business=iphoneroms%40gmail%2ecom&item_name=iPhone%20Roms&no_shipping=0&no_note=1&tax=0&currency_code=EUR&lc=IE&bn=PP%2dDonationsBF&charset=UTF%2d8

Thanks and Regards,
S*******

So in order to get the site up and running once again, these guys need some money. All it takes is a small donation from from you guys and YOU can get the repo up and running once again.

If you have added roms using the iphoneroms repo, then show your support and donate!

At the Worldwide Developer Conference Keynote address Steve Jobs gave us a look at the new iPhone. I have seen countless summaries of today’s conference, but what can us iPod Touch users expect from the new firmware?

Below is a list of the new features in 2.0 that iPod Touch users can expect.

Contact searching – Yes

Complete iWork document support – Yes

Complete Office document support (now includes PowerPoint) – Yes

Bulk delete and move for Mail – Yes

Save images you receive – Yes

Scientific calculator in landscape mode – Yes

Parental controls – Yes

Language – Yes

Besides these new features is the all important new App Store. To get these third party applications you will need to purchase them. For everyone waiting for a Jailbreak, be very patient. It will likely be harder to Jailbreak the 2.0 firmware. Apple is working on ways to make hacking the 2.0 firmware much more difficult (which is why only the first two beta versions of 2.0 were successfully jailbroken), they do not want people getting these third party applications for free.

The set release time for 2.0 is early July. For those of you who have jailbroken iPods on 1.1.4, I would suggest not upgrading right away to 2.0. The 2.0 firmware will cost $9.95 for iPod Touch users and will be free for iPhone users.

For those who heard about the new pricing on the iPhone ($299 for the 16gb, while the 8gb iPod Touch is $399), don’t expect to see a price drop on the iPod Touch. The reason the iPhone price has been lowered is because AT&T will now make more on the monthly charges and will hand over some of that extra money to Apple to compensate for the lower iPhone prices. Since there is no subscription for the iPod Touch, the price will remain higher and we will have to pay to upgrade to the 2.0 firmware.

Be sure to check back for more updates on the Jailbreaking status for 2.0.

If you have any questions or comments head over to the forums and post them.

Zodttd has released vlc4iphone for the iPod Touch to beta testers. I have copied over all the information on it from his site for those who want all the details. Basically what vlc4iphone does is it allows you to play various video formats not supported by the iPod Touch.

VLC by is a popular multi-format video and audio player for a wide variety of systems. Within the past few days I have successfully ported over VLC to the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. I have also built and used my ogg4iphone frontend for vlc4iphone.

What is vlc4iphone capable of? At the moment it may be limited by only a small handfull of decoders, but soon that list will grow! It currently allows you to drag and drop the following popular media formats onto your iPhone/iPod Touch for playback: MPEG / MPG,AVI,MP3.
It also supports some lesser known media formats.

Soon it will play: FLAC,OGG
I am also researching playback of: VCD,DivX,WMA,WMV

Currently vlc4iphone is only available to ZodTTD.com Beta Testers though as more decoders get implemented and some bugs fixed up, a public release will be made with source code found at my git repo in the downloads section of the forum. This should all happen very soon.

Beta testers, you should see vlc4iphone v0.5.0 available in your ZodTTD.com Installer.app beta repo.

A new application called iSlsk has been released for the iPod Touch. It is still in beta stage, so of course there are some bugs, regardless it works very well. iSlsk is a P2P Soulseek client.
1. You can search for files.
2. You can connect to a Soulseek network using your iPod Touch’s Wi-Fi.

I have seen a lot of questions from people asking how they can save games on their iPod Touch. Because of this I have put together a guide that should fix this problem. This guide is for users who are running 1.1.3 and 1.1.4.

Now lets get started!

1. If you haven’t already done so, install BSD Subsystem. It is located in the “System” Category.

2. Next, install term-vt100.

3. Open up term-vt100 and type the below text. You must type it exactly how you see it.

chown -hR mobile /var/mobile/Media/ROMs/insert your choice

Where I have put “insert your choice”, put either GBA, NES, SNES, PSX, GENESIS, GAMEBOY

4. Now open up the emulator and pick any ROM. You should now be able to save the progress of your game!

A nice new repo/source from iphoneroms has recently surfaced and it adds NES, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy/GBC and GBA ROMs. This repo was launched yesterday and has already been accessed over 125,000 times!

This repo is fully compatible with 1.1.4, so there is no need to have to move the ROMs to the proper file path if you are running the current firmware. Another nice feature of this repo is that if you go over to iphoneroms.com you can actually upload any ROMs that you have and it will be updated on their repo.

**NOTE** The uploading ROMs feature has been taken down for the time being to fix a few problems with the code. The GBA ROMs will be taken down tonight to reduce the amount of bandwidth used. Once a suitable web host with higher bandwidth is found the GBA ROMs will be reactivated.

The repo you will want to add is: repo.iphoneroms.com iphoneroms.com/repo

Once you have added this repo, you should see five new categories: Gameboy ROMs, GBA ROMs, Genesis ROMs, NES ROMs, SNES ROMs and Emulators.

Please head over to the forums and register and join our community!

A special thanks goes out to iphoneroms for creating this great new repo allowing everyone to add Gameboy/GBC, GBA, Genesis, NES and SNES ROMs!

The most important feature of the new update (and a long requested one) is the addition of a search bar on the top. Now you don’t have to scroll through the hundreds of packages listed.

Other new features include:
1. Faster refresh times!
2. Dynamic package descriptions.
3. Listing in alphabetical order for all packages.

I want to personally thank the guys over at Nullriver Software for this new update!

Now if you haven’t already done so, go and update your installer.app!

Thanks to Steven over at the forums for being the first to point this out.

Are you tired of trying to use a repo/source to add the gba bios? The majority of the repos out there that have the gba bios don’t work and you will continue to see the dreaded “Sorry, but ipSP requires a Gameboy Advance” message. For those of you still continue to see this message, today is the last day for that! Thanks to user Steven over at the Lonman06 forums for pointing this out and the guys at iROM for this repo.

The repo I am going to list below installs the gpSPhone with the bios, so there is no need for you to manually add it and worry that it is a non-working bios.

Before you add this repo and install the gpSPhone, I just want to remind you of a few things.

1. Make sure that you uninstall any previous version of gpSPhone before installing this version.

2. This repo is for 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 only.

3. Downloading ROMs that you don’t own is illegal, please read my disclaimer at the top of the page.

4. If you have any questions or comments head over to the forums and post them there. You must register before you can see any posts.

Without further ado, the repo to add the gpSPhone with the gba bios is: http://iromrepo.com/repo/delta/repobeta.xml

Once you add it and your sources have refreshed, go back and look for “iRoms” in your catergory list.

Now install the “gpSPhone w/ bios”.

You are now done, you should have a working gba bios and gpSPhone ready to play GBA ROMs!
