The first “Iron Man 2″ trailer is here. Apple has posted the trailer for the highly anticipated sequel, “Iron Man 2″ starring Robert Downey Jr., Sam Rockwell (Frost/Nixon), Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler), Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. That video exploded into the global consciousness last night, on the eve of GenCon 2009. As we scour the interwebs all day for more breaking news about the Marvel Superstars Trading Card Game, we can assemble a preliminary picture of the coming worldwide cardboard obsession.

The most striking thing about the Iron Man trailer, to me, is the fact that Marvel Studios allowed Upper Deck to enhance and customize the footage from the original film. That is a creative partnership with courageous teeth. The future of their collaborative promotional productions promises be spectacular.

The first card ever revealed for the Marvel Superstars Trading Card game is still a bit of an enigma.

It is an Ally Character. It is Iron Man. It has something called Justice, with three different statistical values. It has an ability that sounds very familiar.

In the vocabulary of the Vs. System game, “Exhaust target character, and it can’t ready next turn” means that this Iron Man can stop an opposing character from attacking and activating its own powers. It tells us that Marvel Superstars will have some sort of turn-based game structure.

Beyond that, we are still in the dark. We still have no clue what the numbers mean. We haven’t the foggiest notion of how victory will be achieved. We don’t know what other kinds of cards will be included. Even with the bombshell YouTube Iron Man trailer that blasted our brains to bits, the full picture of Marvel Superstars remains to be seen.

Anthony Stark è un inventore geniale e miliardario col vizio delle donne (tante) e delle attività filantropiche. Durante un test in medioriente, per verificare l’efficienza di un’arma sperimentale, viene catturato da un gruppo di estremisti. Ferito al cuore da una scheggia è soccorso e curato da Yinsen, un fisico esperto di cibernetica che gli applica un organo artificiale. Obbligato dai guerriglieri a costruire un’arma invincibile per la loro causa, Tony progetta in segreto un’armatura per fuggire alla prigionia. Rientrato negli Stati Uniti è deciso a cambiare vita, a riparare alle ingiustizie e a “industriarsi” a favore dei più deboli. Perfezionata l’armatura con la tecnologia avanzata diventa Iron Man, un (super)eroe “umano, troppo umano”.Fumetto e cinema nascono insieme più di un secolo fa e si spiano da subito. Due linguaggi con origini diverse e identità distinte che pure hanno saputo dialogare intensamente: confrontandosi, convivendo, divorziando, riconciliandosi e riconfigurando le reciproche estetiche. L’Iron Man di Jon Favreu, nell’intensa economia di scambio tra fumetto e cinema, realizza un enorme salto di qualità, dimostrando la reciprocità produttiva dei due linguaggi, che nell’ultimo decennio si era spinta in direzione di un’autentica cannibalizzazione.L’archivio “eroico” della Marvel è diventato un vero e proprio laboratorio per la creazione, anche se non sempre riuscita e puntuale, di nuovi modelli estetico-narrativi dell’industria cinematografica, come dimostra l’insistita trasposizione sullo schermo di un esteso repertorio dei loro personaggi: da Spider Man agli X-Men, dai Fantastici Quattro ad Iron Man, e per continuare nel futuro prossimo con Hulk e Capitan America.Creato da Stan Lee, Don Heck e Jack Kirby nel 1963 per la rivista “Tales of Suspense”, Iron Man è un eroe conservatore che ieri ha “armato” il Vietnam ed oggi “attrezza” l’intervento afgano. Jon Favreu, subito dopo i titoli di testa, gira la scena originaria, quella che origina il film e dà origine all’eroe. Come tutti i suoi compagni di supervite e superavventure, Tony Stark ha subito un incidente e una perdita traumatica (quella del cuore). Di questa scena primaria la caverna dei ribelli è lo scenario, il luogo in cui avviene l’esperienza dello smarrimento, il processo di apprendimento dell’uomo e la conversione nell’eroe.Dopo essere stato un disegno animato in A Scanner Darkly, Robert Downey Jr. torna a recitare con sfondi agitati, indossando un’armatura, sviluppando una doppia identità e combattendo il supervillain di Jeff Bridges. Soltanto la sua performance glamour (e “in carne e ossa”) poteva trovare l’equivalente plastico-dinamico del personaggio disegnato su carta, restituendone l’aura ed eliminando la seccatura del ridicolo, che si ripresenta a ogni traduzione del fumetto al cinema.

Motor de Speed Racer morre na largada e por pouco não perde de Cameron Diaz e Ashton Kutcher

Com a expressiva estréia de Homem de Ferro na semana passada, não havia dúvida alguma de que os jatos plantares do Vingador Dourado conseguiriam deixar para trás o motor do Mach 5 neste fim de semana. O que ninguém desconfiava é que Speed Racer teria uma abertura tão morna: abaixo das piores expectativas de seu estúdio.

No topo do pódio, Homem de Ferro fez mais 50,5 milhões de dólares – queda de 49% em relação à semana passada -, somando até aqui 177 milhões e batendo o orçamento de 140 milhões do filme em apenas 10 dias em um só território. Na trama, perto da morte com um estilhaço de explosão alojado próximo ao seu coração, Tony Stark opta pela retaliação aos seus captores. Com sua inteligência, cria uma armadura que além de mantê-lo vivo é dotada de incríveis armamentos. Com ela consegue escapar do cativeiro – apenas para descobrir um plano nefasto com implicações globais, o que o leva a tornar-se o super-herói Homem de Ferro.

Na vice-liderança, Speed Racer abriu com 20,20 milhões. O valor por pouco não o colocou na terceira colocação, atrás da comédia romântica What Happens in Vegas. Andy e Larry Wachowski, que decidiram realizar esse filme, apto a todos os públicos, depois de verem os números de estréia de A Era do Gelo 2, não devem estar nem um pouco satisfeitos. Na trama do filme, Speed tenta honrar a memória do irmão, Rex, morto na pista de corrida. Quando Speed recusa uma oferta milionária da Royalton Industries para ser seu piloto, ele não só enfurece o maníaco dono da companhia como descobre um segredo: algumas das maiores corridas do circuito estão sendo arranjadas. Se Speed não correr para a Royalton, a Royalton assegurará que o Mach 5 nunca mais atravesse uma linha de chegada. O único jeito de Speed salvar o negócio de sua família é se unir ao rival Corredor X e vencer The Crucible, um rali que atravessa o país e desafia a morte – a corrida que tomou a vida de seu irmão.

Jogo de Amor em Las Vegas (What Happens in Vegas), comédia estrelada por Cameron Diaz e Ashton Kutcher, faturou alto para o gênero – 20 milhões – e ficou com a medalha de bronze. Na trama, os dois vivem um casal que bebe todas em Las Vegas, se casa e, no dia seguinte, ganha uma bolada no cassino. O caso é que eles se odeiam e não querem dividir o dinheiro – só vivendo juntos pra ver qual deles desiste primeiro. A direção é do novato Tom Vaughan e a estréia no Brasil acontece em 27 de junho.

Na quarta posição, outra comédia romântica: O Melhor Amigo da Noiva (Made of Honor), essa estrelada por Michelle Monaghan e Patrick Dempsey. O filme faturou até aqui 26,2 milhões de dólares e estréia no Brasil na próxima sexta, 16 de maio.

I found this Gizmodo link through Google Reader and shared it (which automatically went to Tumblr), and all of this will show up in your RSS reader, assuming you, of course, subscribe. Confused?

That might help a little. OK, back to business:

Gizmodo asks why hasn’t anyone defected from iTunes to AmazonMP3? To which I say, I have. I’ve long been annoyed by iTunes DRM-restricted music and have been impressed with the selection and pricing of Amazon’s entry into the digital music marketplace. Over the past couple months I think I’ve found one album cheaper at the iTunes music store (and so I still got it there), but usually they’re the same price or cheaper at AmazonMP3, which makes still buying iTunes silly DRM-restricted songs, well, silly.

Just last night I bought The National’s album Boxer (which is great, by the way) and with sites like Free Napster popping up all over the place, buying music has never been simpler. No more 30-second song snippets–listen to the entire album all you want before you purchase it at all. No more authorizing computers–it’s DRM-free, baby! If you know me well you know I’m an unashamed Apple fanboy, and while the iTunes store was certainly revolutionary, it’s no longer leading the pack (at least in terms of cost and freedom), in my opinion.

And finally, I think this is hilarious, especially considering I mentioned the Iron Man trailer just a few posts back. Anyway, thanks, The Onion (and, of course, Hulu).
