I could lie to you all and say “OH MAN I LOVE IRONIK, YEAH HE’S GOT SUCH AN AMAZING FLOW/ CRAZY LYRICS.” However I won’t as I don’t think he does, I do however think he makes great pop music which sells a hell of a lot. He is currently in the studio putting together his second album “M.U.S.I.C Legend” and yesterday he dropped this snippet of one of the album tracks called ‘Slow Down,’ this actually sounds very big!

One of UK’s brightest artists, IRONIK, has popped off the new year with his new song “SLOW DOWN“…. Have a listen and let me know what you think about it.

GREAT EURO RAPPER!!!

Ironik is a relatively famous rapper from the U.K. His rap style almost sounds reggae to me, his accent is pretty obvious (especially with words like “you” “my” “to”  . . .) but it makes him unique. He has sampled some real good songs in this album and has another album, which has a lot of the same songs, “Stay With Me” which is also worth getting. His a pretty unique style and isn’t quite as club-y as most Euro Rappers I’ve reviewed but he is still excellent. I strongly recommend checking him out!

Due to overwhelming popular demand I’ve decided to bring forward the concluding part of my countdown of the worst songs of the year. Here’s the corresponding Spotify playlist for this part if you are into masochistic ear torture.

5 – Sugar – Flo Rida feat Wynter

Out of the mouth of a meathead comes this archetypal Flo Rida effort. It’s crass to the bone and heavy on the familiar inane euphemisms you hear in every Flo Rida song.

But this is a cut above (below?) his usual sludge, solely for the hookline of ‘this candy got you sprung’, stay classy Flo Rida.

4 – Tiny Dancer (Hold Me Closer) – Ironik feat. Chipmunk

Chipmunk’s masterstroke was to roll with no-talents like Ironik so we’d all be stunned when he turned out to be quite good.

This is an appalling take on the Elton John classic, Ironik’s input is to repeat whatever Elton just said in the chorus. It’s breathtakingly unoriginal.

3 – Pregnant – R.Kelly

This anti-safe sex anthem is one of the worst sounds you’re likely to hear all year.

It’s so skin-crawlingly stupid that a child could probably point out the moral and logical flaws in the lyrics. That’s if he hasn’t pissed on them by that point.

2 – Birthday Sex – Jeremih

A egotistical clown who can’t even spell his own name comes up with this horrible, horrible piece of music about reluctantly having sex with his woman on her birthday and then has the audacity to talk about it as if it was a feminist anthem.

No humility, no shame, no good.

1 – Hotel Room Service – Pitbull

I’d rather wake up and find Charles Manson in my bedroom than listen to a Pitbull album. He’s an amalgam of the worst of humanity: smug, sleazy, creepy and stupid.

He artlessly waltzes his way through four minutes of this trite, moronic shit all the while being incredibly and undeservedly pleased with himself. What a first class cunt.

Tuneful albino Mr Hudson is hosting a competition to get a UK MC to record a verse on the digital version of his ‘Anyone But Him’ single due to be released next year. Peep the details here.

Just as Nas got the woefully misnomered Rising Son to record a verse on the European release of his ‘Street Disciple’ set in 2004, Hudson is looking to the Grime scene for some much-needed street cred in European territories.

As a seemingly golden promotional opportunity, I’m sure many Grime and Rap MC’s are recording their versions as I type. And why not? To be featured on a major label release – even if it’s just for a guest verse – not only widens an MC’s scope, but provides a glimpse of the ‘big time’ which can be an important morale-booster for relatively unknown MC’s on the grind.

However, the danger is that Grime, like many other street-based subcultures, seldom recognises the value of its own cultural capital (music, slang, dress codes, multimedia etc.) Nike, Adidas, Boxfresh, Nandos, iPhone, Blackberry and JC:DC have all benefited financially from the Grime scene, either through direct sponsorship/collaboration with artists or loose cultural affiliation with fans.

For sportswear companies like Nike and Adidas, their leisurewear brands depend on it.

And yet, all Grime artists (the bastions of its cultural capital) can expect to receive is some free garm and a photoshoot, and fans a free download or music video. In Hudson’s case, a competition like this gives him a cheap credibility boost in the UK which is starting to disregard frumpy American culture in favour of its own.

Grime still hasn’t been given its dues for shaping the pop music renaissance Britain is experiencing right now. The commercial successes of Dizzee, Chipmunk, Tinchy, Ironik, Jay Sean et al is partly due to the fact that they’ve each taken ownership of their capital and used it to produce clothing lines and collaborate with artists on equal terms.

Now, teeny boppers, ravers and downloaders across Europe are dancing and nodding to a distinctly British beat. Rising Son is now nowhere to be seen.

Ironik has taken a liking to the British brand. Here we have the former man formally known as DJ Ironik in a grey Boxfresh ‘Haroon’ jacket.  ‘You’ll feel like you’re still wrapped up warm and cosy in bed, in this quilt styled hoodie. So they’ll be no more excuses about getting up on time and as a result one less reason to be nagged’

Music legend Bob Dylan, has reportedly refused permission for Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk and Ironik to sample his hit song Knocking On Heaven’s Door, even though the song will be for chairty!

Ben from Ofoedu of Phats and Small, who was also involved in getting the anti-gun and knife crime track out, told The Sun:

“The idea was to record a charity song to show kids that their favourite rappers totally and utterly disagree with gun and knife crime which has taken over the streets of Great Britain

“Tinchy, Chipmunk and Ironik got together to voice their concerns about the situation.

“We picked to sample Knocking on Heaven’s Door, as the original meaning of the song was to do with a man wanting to change his life around from a life of wrong-doing – which is still relevant today. We adapted song to fit the current Brrrap Pack vibe with new lyrics for the verses. It sounded great and received immediate record company attention. Sadly the project was cut short, after Dylan wouldn’t give the song clearance. We asked his publishing company if he knew it was for charity and they said he did but wasn’t interested.”

The ‘Tiny Dancer’ star, the British musician DJ Ironik, is a huge fan of Energie. This pictures shows him wearing his favourites Energie’s pieces – as the FAZ TROUSERS and the PILDORA JACKET – at the MOBO Awards 2009 held at Glasgow’s… SECC on September 30, 2009 in Glasgow, Scotland. He has been nominated for ‘Best UK Act’ at this MOBO Awards edition.

I did catch my tuneage of the year from DJs Chipmunk and Ironik – Tiny Dancer on the 47th minute.  Those guys nailed it right there and make me wish I was 20 years younger!  Chipmunk then beat Dizzee to the Hip Hop Artist of the Year award which I was surprised about.  Congratulations Chipmunk, commiserations Dizzee…

The Other End of the Sofa informed me that it was in Glasgow, when I asked why the audience was predominantly white.  He helpfully informed me that this was to avoid the gang-related shootings they feared might happen if they’d have staged it at the O2.  He also told me I was at least 5 pages behind.  He was right.  It’s a tiring business keeping down with the kids.

The Mobo Awards appeared to be a successful event, it was a proud moment for the UK, watching the opening performance by Tinchy Stryder (with a feature from Ndubz’s Dappy), another by Chipmunk and DJ Ironik, JLS and Ndubz, you could sense the atmosphere, the british acts were claiming their position, however, even though JLS won (two), Chipmunk returned to win another, Ndubz won two awards, I was dissapointed that Sean Paul won best Reggae Artist when there were more deserving acts nominated, Bashy and Master Shortie were the two unsigned acts and I felt it would be a big acheivement for them if they won, especially Bashy as he has come a long way since his early grime mixtape days. The biggest controversy however, was the fact that Tinchy Stryder and Dizzee Rascal did not win, based on a voting system it was strange and surprising that despite the success of the UK artists, two time Number 1 charting, Tinchy Stryder who also had the Number 2 album in the country did not win, nor did three time Number 1 charting (in a row) Dizzee Rascal.

Keri Hilson who was co-presenting won as well as Beyonce, I wish I was there, I would have done a ‘Kanye’ and made my point clear, maybe next time.

I think we have taken a big step, we expected or felt that we deserved more for the clear domination that we have had on the charts this year, I was even more so annoyed that Taio Cruz came on to support Keri Hilson and sung Ne-Yo’s part for her single Knock Me Down (when he is a talented writer himself), again, maybe this is a smaller step than we thought and as long as we continue making good music and remaining consistent with our chart domination then we will scale further heights, still you cannot help but to feel for Tinchy Stryder who really deserved some recognition for his acheivements.
