Il y a 2 mois déja on découvrait pour la première fois notre petit Antonin.

Depuis nous sommes sous le charme, car oui ce petit coquin est né charmeur. Alors même que la semaine d’adaptation chez la nounou ne démarre que le 14 décembre, il s’est débrouillé pour qu’elle propose de le garder pendant que je fais ma rééducation chez le kiné, et pendant la première séance d’1h30, il n’a fait que sourire et gazouiller!

Bon immortaliser ces sourires c’est très très dur car il bouge tout le temps en même temps, mais cette photo est assez mignonne pour fêter ces 2 mois:

Voila, il est sorti de vous, pas bien gros, assez petit (même si le ventre des derniers jours pouvait vous laisser penser le contraire) et tout de suite se pose la question majeure de la NOURRITURE…

Et bien au XXIème siècle les débats sont toujours les mêmes qu’aux siècles précédents, allaitement maternel, allaitement artificiel? l’essentiel étant soi disant que la maman soit zen (s’il est vraiment possible de l’être au démarrage d’une vie à construire) pour que bébé aille bien.

Les deux écoles coexistent bel et bien.

Mais je peux surtout parler de mon expérience cette fois. Pour ma part, convaincue des bienfaits du transfert des anticorps issus de la maman au bout de chou, surtout en ces nouvelles périodes de pandémie, j’ai décidé de tenter d’allaiter Antonin. Pour autant que ce soit naturel, je trouve que ça a été et n’est toujours pas des plus simples! On a pu constater, lors de notre petite semaine à la maternité, que le démarrage n’est pas forcément évident. Au bout de 5 jours, on commençait seulement à stabiliser la perte de poids, et encore, on devait se battre avec une seringue pour être sûrs que le petit avait suffisamment mangé. Pourquoi une seringue? Pour que le petit ne devienne pas accro à la tétine au détriment du sein qu’on était toujours décidé à lui faire accepter. Le problème? La position d’allaitement, l’attrapage du têton, vraisemblablement, car la montée de lait était bien là. Malheureusement, ce n’est qu’au bout de 4 jours qu’une auxiliaire m’a proposé un tire lait qui aurait pu bien aider ce démarrage. Enfin bref, de retour à la maison on tente de se débrouiller, mais une visite chez le pédiatre 8 jours après nous alarme: la reprise de poids n’a pas commencé!

Il a fallu s’acharner, ne pas se stresser, beaucoup peser bébé, utiliser des “bouts de sein” en silicone et le tire lait et finalement, un jour, tout s’est débloqué tout seul. Mais il s’en est fallu de peu qu’on ne recoure aux biberons de lait artificiel salvateur… A la PMI, à qui j’ai donné le relais pour le pesage (avant de passer à la wiifit plus si je trouve comment faire), ils ont tenu à donner d’autres conseils aussi, sur l’alternance des deux seins, par exemple. Les puéricultrices ont très à cœur qu’on réussisse correctement notre allaitement, c’en est limite impressionnant!

Bon, mais quand la prise de poids commence (et sérieusement, jusqu’à atteindre quasi 500g en une semaine!) il n’est pas dit que la maman ne craquera pas. J’ai un modèle qui, la journée, tête un peu avec anarchie, longtemps au total, par petites touches répétées (d’autant plus avec les coliques, téter doit le soulager). Certains jours, j’ai la sensation de n’avoir fait que ça de la journée.

Heureusement pour compenser un peu, une des puéricultrices m’a conseillé, le soir, de donner un biberon de lait artificiel qui se digère bien plus lentement que le lait maternel, permettant au petit de tenir plus longtemps et donc de n’avoir plus, en général, qu’un arrêt nocturne plus tardif (exemple cette nuit, il a fait 22h-6h10). Autre avantage, je tire donc mon lait pendant que le papa donne le biberon (et un biberon est avalé en 30 min max quand une tétée durera potentiellement une bonne heure)… biberon de lait de maman que je pourrai donner le lendemain pour caler un bébé quand on doit partir assez vite en rendez vous, par exemple. Mais je ne suis plus en allaitement maternel exclusif, j’ai craqué pour un allaitement mixte!

Le bilan de tout cela est qu’à force d’acharnement, à 2 mois, j’aurai quand même principalement nourri mon fils avec mes anticorps, ce qui n’était pas du tout garanti. Mais que cela m’a semblé difficile!

I don’t get it.  I’m in my 40’s, so I get that I’m not supposed to get “it”.  But still.  In this day and age where women (and girls) are so independent, strong and smart, why on earth are they so obsessed by these books/movies?

Let’s start with the main character, Bella.  Bella is admittedly accident prone and rather plain.  I think this is putting it too simply.  She is a walking disaster.  She is neurotic, self absorbed, weak, and worst of all, completely incapable of being on her own.  She is totally obsessed with Edward to the detriment of her health and well being and only cares about him and what makes him happy.

Wow.  I sure want my daughter emulating this girl!  Unfortunately, I didn’t discover how bad these books were until recently, when I decided I should go ahead and find out what my daughter, Isabelle, saw in these stories.

It’s been downright painful slogging through them.  Don’t get me wrong, I am no author, and certainly couldn’t do what Stephanie Meyer has done.  But these books drag on forever, are depressing as hell, and do nothing for the advancement of women.  I’ve literally found myself skimming over large sections because I just plain couldn’t take Bella’s drivel anymore.  Her ‘woe is me’ and  ‘my life can’t continue without Edward and his love’ attitude is vomit inducing.  And frankly was so prevalent throughout ALL of these books, it just put me to sleep.  Honestly, Stephanie, aren’t you embarrassed too?  I read in your bio that you have three sons and no daughters, but as a female, I would still think you would be horrified to write about a character so weak and pitiful.

But Isabelle doesn’t see it this way, as evidenced by the dog-eared collection on her bookshelf and her pleading eyes when she asks if I will take her to see New Moon this weekend.  She’s read these books several times and saw the first movie on video.  Sigh.  All I can do is tell her that these are fictional stories and that Bella is no one to be like, and Edward (vampire or not!) is not the ideal boyfriend.  They take dysfunctional to all new lows.

So will I take her to see the movie?  Probably.  But you can bet we’ll be talking about it afterwards.

Oh boy, I’ve been remiss of my blogging duties, though I guess nothing really blog-worthy has happened in November. Cliff Note summary: school kicked me around a bit last week and I got a haircut. Sadly, I’ve come to the realization that my 1 year old niece wears bangs way better than me. Getting them always seem like a good idea in theory, but in reality they’re just a pain in the ass. Thirty minutes into having them poking my eyeballs, I already had them up in bobby pins. Also, it turns out that this hair cut is more high maintenance than the usual wash-and-go style I’m used to. If I don’t blow dry and/or somewhat style it, I come dangerously close to rockin’ a Billy Ray (in his Achy Breaky, pre-daughter-pimping days.) Not the look I’m going for.

I also finally settled on a church a couple weeks ago and have been throwing myself into every small group/event possible since then. Seriously, the good people of CCFC probably think that I am some super-species hybrid of an overzealous puppy and overeager beaver. (I’m thinking this hypothetical creature could be kinda cute and endearing. Or creepy as hell. I’m hoping they think it’s the former.)

Hmmm… Just came back from Chester and Peggy’s wedding.. It was a very beautiful moment for them And for me, it’s a very new experience for me as I was asked by Chester to be usher for them.. And that i have NEVER done ushering in weddings before.. So ya.. New experience

Anyway, wanted to make a “Live” report from the wedding at Merchant Court itself.. But due to NO WIRELESS CONNECTION, it cannot be done

Anyway, again.. I have 2 “Girls” with me EVERYDAY!! They are Zara and Isabelle.. I can’t live without them somehow.. I listens to Zara and Isabelle listens to me… Why is that so?? HAHA!!

I received Omelle’s 2010 Spring/Summer kit and I am so glad to share what I received with my readers. Cherise and Nicole’s inspiration for this season is “PLANES!, TRAINS! AND AUTOMOBILES!”. Both ladies take inspiration from chopper blades, luggage tabs, railroad tracks, conductor hats, dashed traffic lines and automobile shifter knobs. Omelle is definitely going to make shoes the focal point of ladies’ outfits for the Spring. These shoes will be available in stores February 2010.

This nor’ easter was actually formed from remnents of the storm Ida. Congers up memories of Isabelle, another I hurricane that I survived.

Idag stod Issa och diskade och helt plötsligt knäcktes tallriken mitt itu, och blodet började forsa isabelle ville  inte titta men jag var framme med huvudet snabbare än kvickt och konstaterade snabbt att det där ska sys. Jag tog papper och täckte såret sen lindade vi det hårt med en köks handuk sen väntade vi… läs resten på Issas blog, jag måste sova ska vara pigg och produktiv imorgon.

As I said previously, I have four children.  I will devote a post (or two, or three) to each of them, but today I wanted to tell a quick story about my middle two: Isabelle and Jack.

Isabelle is now almost 12 years old and Jack 10 1/2, but this incident actually happened around 8 years ago, before I had my youngest son, Cole.

Iz and Jack have always been very close.  They love and hate each other in equal parts, but they always played–and conspired, well together.  Iz was often the ring leader and Jack the gleeful follower.  She was always full of crazy ideas and I swear they planned with evil precision to keep me constantly going in opposite directions, trying to head off the antics of one, while the other was doing something else equally mischievous.

One day, I had to make a quick stop to the local Costco.  We *heart* Costco, by the way.  It’s a great store for a family of our size, plus they always have such cool stuff.  However, we also call it the $100 store, as you can never get out of there without dropping at least a hundred each time.

So that day, I realized after we entered the store, that I didn’t have enough cash to pay for whatever it was I was getting that day.  I had already put Iz and Jack in one of Costco’s supersize carts, the kind where you can seat two kids side by side in one cart.  I foolishly decided to save some time, and leave them in the cart on one side of the checkout area, while I went to the other side (where the atm machine was located) and withdraw some cash.  I was maybe 10 yards from them, and had a clear view of them the whole time.

Naturally, the atm machine was slow that day.  I stood there, tapping my foot impatiently, while watching Iz and Jack happily giggling and talking to one another.  Suddenly, I notice that Iz is whispering something in Jack’s ear and he gets one of his famous “looks” on his face.  I realize with dread that the conspiring has begun and I can do nothing about it.

Why won’t this machine hurry up?  I think, as I helplessly watch Jack’s face screw up in concentration and let out in a loud, shrill voice: “DAMMIT!!” at the top of his lungs.  Ooooh. No.  Isabelle is giggling madly and clearly urging him to do it again.  I started madly flailing my arms in their direction, hoping to distract them, while desperately praying for the stupid atm to finally spit my money out already.  “DAMMIT!!!  DAMMIT!!!! DAAAAAAMMMIIIIIITTTTT!!!”  Jack and Iz are having way too much fun.  People are staring and looking disapprovingly at me and at them.  Oh, geez, seriously?  Could he be any louder?!   It was not a proud moment for me.  I swear (ahem, poor choice of words notwithstanding) that these guys didn’t use bad language.  But today, they were embracing this word and making sure everyone within a hundred feet heard them loud and clear.  Sigh.

Finally after much mental pleading with the atm, my money spits out and I am able to madly dash over to my kids and whisk them away from the checkout area.  Yes, I am THAT mom.  The one that can’t control her kids and looks harried, desperate, and like she can’t decide whether she wants to run away or put her kids in a fancy boarding school.

But years later, the story now makes me laugh.  That is until the next time they conspire against me.

Antonin est en ce moment dans une phase où rien au monde ne vaut la chaleur de bras amis, d’autant plus encore si c’est ceux de maman, là c’est le bonheur total.
