Responding to the Walker Review into Corporate Governance in UK banks and other financial industry entities released today, Peter Montagnon, the ABI’s Director of Investment Affairs, said:

“This is a well-balanced and useful report, in which Sir David has paid close attention to practical points made by respondents to his consultation.  The result is a useful indicator of the way forward, though there are, of course, some areas where further thought is needed.  It is very important that the overall conclusion is on the side of comply-or-explain, and against statutory regulation, on the way boards behave and how shareholders engage.  We will do our best to deliver as investors.”

Role of shareholders

“Shareholders did not cause the crisis, but they recognise that they could be more effective in their dealings with companies.  They have already taken steps to do so, notably through the recent publication by the Institutional Shareholders Committee of the first ever national code on investor responsibility.

“We are pleased that Sir David Walker is positive about the Code. The ISC is already taking further steps towards implementation. Assalamualaikum wrt,

Alhamdulillah, pada Ahad lepas, telah berlangsung satu perjumpaan atau perhimpunan para naqib dan naqibah ISC RCMP anjuran unit Kerohanian dan Etika (UKE) bertempat di bilik persidangan Masjid Muhibbuddin.

Bermula lebih kurang 9.30 pagi dan berakhir selepas usai diskusi sebagai slot pengisian utama untuk ‘training of trainers’ tersebut.

Perjumpaan dimulakan dengan sesi perkongsian pintar dan dialog, melibatkan brother dan sister yang lebih berpengalaman dalam aspek sekitar makhluk bernama usrah ini. Panelis separa profesionalnya terdiri daripada akhi Hadyan dan ukhti Umairah Muhadi, dan ana selaku moderator juga separa profesional (bila lagi nak mengasah bakat).

Banyak aspek asas berkenaan usrah sebagai sunnah, usrah sebagai metod dakwah berkesan, contoh praktikal pelaksanaan usrah, cabaran dan rintangan dalam berusrah dikongsi dan dibincangkan supaya sesuai dengan waqi’(=suasana, keadaan) kampus RCMP. Kepada yang berminat bolehlah bertanya kepada yang hadir, dan yang hadir sama-sama kita kongsi pula dengan yang tidak berkesempatan.

Selepas sesi dialog, kita berehat sebentar sambil menikmati hidangan teh istimewa akhi Hasif, dan dicecah dengan biskut zuhud atau biskut tarbiyah, heh.

Sambil menunggu kedatangan penceramah, Ust Burhan, saya mewakili UKE mengambil peluang untuk menerangkan harapan, visi dan penekanan ISC dalam aspek tarbiyah dan usrah yang memerlukan jua pengorbanan dan kerjasama para ‘agent of change’ demi memastikan proses dakwah dan islah bertambah baik kualitinya, juga dalam membentuk barisan pelapis ISC sebagai tonggak dakwah yang pertama dan sudah lama bertapak di RCMP tercinta ini.

Akhir sekali, sebelum zohor, para nuqaba’ dihidangkan dengan perkongsian daripada seorang profesional ustaz berkenaan dengan pemuda dan pemudi sebagai harapan umat Islam masa depan, peringkat-peringkat tarbiyah dan usrah.

Suatu yang menarik juga bila ditakrifkan pemuda ‘haraki’ sebagai golongan muda-mudi yang apabila berlawannya kemungkaran yang menjadi realiti di sekeliling dengan makruf atau takwa dalam hati mereka lalu menggerakkan mereka untuk membaiki dan mengubah keadaan tersebut. Sama juga bila kita nak mentakrifkan ulamak, organisasi@jemaah, ustaz, ustazah yang haraki. Ini penting kerana Nabi Muhammad SAW dan para sahabat adalah bersifat haraki. Definisi tersebut dipetik oleh ustaz Burhan daripada buku risalah usrah oleh Abu Urwah@Saari Sungib.

Moga pertemuan bulanan ini akan meningkatkan kualiti dan prestasi para nuqaba’ ISC. InsyaAllah, di pertemuan akan datang, semua ajk ISC adalah dijemput dan sangat-sangat digalakkan. Semoga kita tergolong dalam kalangan mereka yang sentiasa bertemu dan berpisah kerana Allah SWT./jihadislah

Solbergin veljesten viime viikonloppuna Oslossa ensimmäistä kertaa järjestämä Extreme Motorsport Show oli menestys, ja nyt Petter Solberg maalailee tulevien vuosien tapahtuman viemisestä kiertueelle, joka voisi tulla aluksi Suomeen ja Irlantiin. Seuraaviin tapahtumiin Solbergit haluavat myös selvän voittajan. Nyt ajettiin vain luokkavoitoista.

Autosportin haastattelussa Solberg kertoo, miten tällaisten show-tapahtumien järjestäminen tulee olemaan “moottoriurheilun tulevaisuutta”.

Rallin MM-sarjan promoottori ISC:n tj Simon Long vihjoi aiemmin syksyllä Vauhdin Maailman haastattelussa, että tulevina vuosina rallin viemiseksi Amerikkaan voitaisiin yksi osakilpailu ajaa kokonaan X-Games -tyylillä stadionilla, joten norjalaiset saattoivat ottaa tähän kehitykseen nyt hyvän lähdön.

• Studying the Dickens epic, “Tale of Two Cities” in 7th standard. (Mrs. Alexander)
• Insane ISC Mathematics, with Ms. Sunita Jacob (aka SJ). Colossal textbooks, you might recall. I think that class made me what I am.
• Annual Sports Day. Assaye field. Walk past ? March past ? Did NOT matter. The taunts ringing out from behind those grilled windows of Aloysius College never ceased to amuse.
• Speech Day & Prize Distribution Day. Man, i could count on being there regardless of how bad I had screwed up my grades, or the record no. of conduct marks. Yes, i could assure my seat there every year, purely on the basis of ….
• Flack Memorial Scripture Memory Contest.   My calling card.
• Graduation day. Getting all choked up hearing “Au Lang Syne” at the biggest day in our collective lives.
• Class clowns. Class toppers. Class backbenchers. Class bunkers. Class acts. Teachers’ pets. There was one of every kind.

Golden memories all. Some things NEVER change.

Había comido tan poco y el doctor se había decidido a no apremiarlo ni a ponerle más atención que llegó el instante en que su sangre dejó de correr y el aire no entró más en su cuerpo y los ojos se quedaron abiertos en una expresión al fin inerte, y cuando Eugenio, en su turno de las noches, se le acercó en su ronda inicial para insistirle «Pásese a la cama, qué batalla», el viejo se negó a abandonar su postura terca en la escuadra de la pared y el suelo, y el enfermero pudo entender, desde antes de tomarle el pulso y observarle las pupilas, que el paciente estaba muerto —y ni él ni Antonessi ni Almiña ni nadie en el Psiquiátrico Francisco Mario ni ya después el forense ni mucho menos el sepulturero que lo lanzó a la fosa lograron comprender no tanto por qué a su muerte la piel se le volvió a Gabriel Sicrano de la rabiosa blancura o palidez de una hoja de papel, sino más bien por qué en esa hoja de papel anciana que era su piel podían leerse o por lo menos discernirse palabras, frases, párrafos impenetrables que recorrían y poblaban —en lugar del pelaje escaso que alguna vez habría tenido— sus mejillas y sus brazos y su pecho y sus piernas y su cuerpo todo.

Nadie quiso leer la historia. ¿Quién la habría comprendido?
