<p><span style="font-size:x-small;">This weekend, instead of combing our usual haunts, we visited the <a href="http://www.iitfonweb.com/" target="_blank">India International Trade Fair </a>currently underway in New Delhi. In our infinite wisdom, we decided to take the Metro rail instead of driving down to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pragati_Maidan" target="_blank">Pragati Maidan </a>(Advancement Arena!!). But Saturday was a bad day for <a href="http://www.delhimetrorail.com/index.htm" target="_blank">Delhi Metro</a>. Trains were running late. The one we took from Dwarka Sector 9 was jam packed by the time we reached Dwarka Mor. &#8220;Minding the Gap&#8221; was impossible as we stood on each other&#8217;s toes, breathed into one another&#8217;s ears and cursed. Train attendants rushed from door to door pushing people in and closing the automatic doors. Pictures of my previous near death experiences in local trains of Mumbai flashed across my mind. By comparison, this was mere massage of tired limbs. This attempt of <a href="http://www.delhimetrorail.com/index.htm" target="_blank">Delhi Metro </a>to bring Indians together irrespective of cast, creed, gender and nationality was laudable. I had no business deploring it. Excruciating circumstances precipitate philosophic resignation. This was enlightenment! Braced against the crushing weight and odour of humanity, I wondered if it was all an illusion, a spell of &#8220;samsara&#8221;. But the hair getting into my eyes and the elbows ramming my ribs were too concrete to be a mirage. Relief came when many passengers got off at Karol Bagh. We were already late by an hour and half. As a parting shot, the disembodied voice of <a href="http://www.delhimetrorail.com/index.htm" target="_blank">Metro</a> hoped &#8220;we had an enjoyable journey&#8221; and looked forward to &#8220;seeing us soon&#8221;. This bit of sardonic wit was not lost on the passengers.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;">We had already purchased trade fair tickets at the <a href="http://www.delhimetrorail.com/index.htm" target="_blank">Metro</a> Station, and passed though security check quickly. Ravenous, we headed straight for the food court. &#8220;Bharath Ka Khana&#8221; welcomed us with open arms. The food court was littered with people occupying every available inch and digging blissfully into idlis, vadas, puttu, mutton chaps and many interesting yet unidentifiable forms of grub.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:x-small;">Watching mad maws on overdrive only amplified our appetite. The cataclysmic force of craving scattered us in different directions. I landed up at the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagaland" target="_blank">Nagaland</a> counter and ordered rice with pork and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo_shoot" target="_blank">bamboo shoots </a>(Rs.100.00 only). Meanwhile others explored Odisha (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orissa" target="_blank">Orissa</a>), <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bihar" target="_blank">Bihar</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Bengal" target="_blank">Bengal</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamil_Nadu" target="_blank">Tamil Nadu </a>counters. When we gathered for barter I had a plate of rice with 3 handsome chunks of pork in a near bland gravy and a paste of fish and chilies. Others had come up with Vada/ Ghughuni (Urad Dal vada and Chole)from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orissa" target="_blank">Orissa</a>, Litti &#8211; Chokha (Atta balls stuffed with Sattu [barley] and garlicky potato) from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bihar" target="_blank">Bihar</a>, Idli &#8211; Chutney from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamil_Nadu" target="_blank">Tamil Nadu</a> and fried fish (fillet of unknown fish coated with flour and deep fried) from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Bengal" target="_blank">Bengal</a>. These were rapidly decimated and replaced with Vada-Pav (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maharashtra" target="_blank">Maharashtra </a>street food specialty). To drown it all we had tea (Rs. 5.00) from the Tea Board counter. Being used to milky tea, I didn&#8217;t like it much, though it was probably more authentic.</span><span style="font-size:x-small;">

<p>More philosophy! To live we all need food. For some, food symbolizes luxury and has ceased to be a necessity. Coffee table magazines and news paper supplements catering to the hyper-gastronomic anxieties of such elite flourish in metro cities like Delhi. Even though I do not belong to that elect category, the gourmet fare that they nibble at has frequently attracted the desperate foodie in me. For others, food is incidental. I do not belong to this category either. Food, to me, goes beyond the survival value and enters the realm of sensory delight, good conversation and companionship. Good food begs good company. A solitary eater, according to me, is a miserable creature. I couldn&#8217;t resist that digression. Sorry!</p>
<p>Satiated, we took bearings and headed for the international pavilion. Crowded! There were exhibits from Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and surprisingly <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papua_New_Guinea" target="_blank">Papua New Guinea</a>. Credit cards were not accepted. We ended up buying an <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onyx" target="_blank">onyx </a>candle stand from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karachi" target="_blank">Karachi</a>, Pakistan and a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papyrus" target="_blank">papyrus</a> scroll of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isis" target="_blank">Isis</a> from Egypt. The guy manning the Egyptian counter was peremptory, intent only on money and hissed <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anubis" target="_blank">Anubis</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isis" target="_blank">Isis</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osiris" target="_blank">Osiris</a>, &#8220;Balance&#8221; replying to customer queries. Entertaining&#8230;</p>
<p><a href="http://tailrace.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/bamboo.jpg"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-319" title="bamboo" src="http://tailrace.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/bamboo.jpg" alt="" width="144" height="476" /></a>The most interesting counter of the <a href="http://www.iitfonweb.com/" target="_blank">Trade Fair </a>belonged to <a href="http://www.bambootech.org/" target="_blank">NMBA, National Mission on Bamboo Applications</a>. Apart from promoting <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo" target="_blank">bamboo</a> as food, they have innovated various light weight and durable <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo" target="_blank">bamboo</a> based wood substitutes and composites, construction and structural applications. A two storey house with steel frame and walls, roof, ceiling, columns, railing, doors and windows made entirely of treated <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo" target="_blank">bamboo</a> was displayed at the exhibit. The treated <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo" target="_blank">bamboo</a> was termite resistant and fire proof. Installation time was a mere 48 hours and it cost only Rs.13 lakhs. There were <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo" target="_blank">bamboo</a> frame exercise bicycles coupled with a dynamo which generated and stored electricity sufficient to light an entire room. Specialty mud kilns for producing high grade carbon from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo" target="_blank">bamboo</a> for use in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tandoor" target="_blank">Tandoors</a> and activated carbon for water treatment facilities were also on display. <a href="http://www.bambootech.org/" target="_blank">NBMA</a> also promotes gasification of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo" target="_blank">bamboo</a> which can be an environment friendly source of renewable heat energy and electricity.</p>
<p>There were pavilions from all states of India. We could only visit those of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jharkhand" target="_blank">Jharkhand</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerala" target="_blank">Kerala</a> besides Techmart India where industrial machinery were on display. The <a href="http://www.iitfonweb.com/" target="_blank">Trade Fair</a> was a wonderful fusion of business and pleasure. It provided a forum for small scale industries from all states to interact with other industries and the larger public.</p>
<p> My only regret was not being able to visit pavilions of North Eastern States. I was also not able to sample <a href="http://foodtravelbangalore.wordpress.com/2009/09/04/the-great-haleem-quest/" target="_blank">Haleem chicken </a>and other specialty cuisine from Pakistan. All in all, it was an informative, fun and relaxing jaunt.</p>

<p>I am interrupting the <em>sleep mode</em> of the playground to publish a selfish and self-centered call for papers. For<a href="http://www.eshet.net/conference/sarea.php?p=33&#38;sa=57"> the 14th conference of the European Society for the History of Economic Though</a>t in Amsterdam, I am submitting a session on the use of visual representation in economics, with the following blurb:</p>
<blockquote><p>The last two decades have witnessed a growing literature on visualization in the history of science following the publication of Lynch and Woolgar&#8217;s <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Representation-Scientific-Practice-Michael-Lynch/dp/0262620766/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&#38;s=books&#38;qid=1258631193&#38;sr=8-1"><em>Representation in Scientific Practice</em></a> (1990) – see for instance a recent focus section in <a href="http://www.journals.uchicago.edu/toc/isis/2006/97/1">Isis (March 2006)</a>. Despite previous attempts to draw the attention of historians of economics and insightful published papers on the subject – e.g. a ECHE conference in 2002 and a related mini-symposium in JHET in 2003), the use of visual representation in economics remains largely misunderstood. Graphical methods, for instance, are still regarded as a mere subdivision of mathematical analysis, whereas Klein (1995), Cook (2005) and Giraud (2007) have demonstrated that they have been considered distinct from mathematics since the early days of neoclassical economics. More generally, though anyone would concede that graphs, charts, tables, pictures and illustrations are part of the economist&#8217;s workaday tools, few efforts have been engaged to understand precisely how they operate within the larger models and theoretical frameworks in which they are used. Failure to recognize the role of visualization in economics is related to the fact that historians of the field tend to focus on the development of theory rather than on the practices in which theorization is entrenched, favoring a foundational approach which undermines cultural specificities. The most recent contributions to the history of science, indeed, have pointed out that the role of visualization in science is best understood within the framework of visual culture – see for instance Luc Pauwels (ed.), <em><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Visual-Cultures-Science-Representational-Communication/dp/1584655127/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&#38;s=books&#38;qid=1258631236&#38;sr=1-1">Visual Cultures of Science</a> </em>(2006).In this session, we would like to follow this literature by bringing together a set of papers which explore the use of visual representation in connection with peculiar cultures, whether disciplinary or operating at a larger level – the birth of mass-media in the US, for instance. Contributions will focus on the invention of visual devices in relation with specific practices, on the interaction between economists and artists or on how certain visual methods are affected when audiences are different from those they were originally intended for. They need not be focused on theoretical economics but also on the use of visual representation by economic propagandists, state administrations or practitioners operating on markets</p></blockquote>
<p>I already have  two papers for the session, including one by Loic and myself on the visual display of economic information in the US during the interwar period (we draw on the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farm_Security_Administration">FSA pictorial project</a> and on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_Neurath">Otto Neurath</a>&#8217;s Isotype method). I would be happy to include one or two other papers. These may not be strictly papers on the history of economics but also papers on the history of management or general history articles which cover economic themes (for instance, economic history, history of measurement and the larger history of social sciences). Beyond the ESHET conference, this session may help launch the discussion on this neglected aspect of scientific practice and to help increase multidisciplinary work on the subject in the near future. In it she states, very simply:</p>

<li><em>&#8216;&#8230; we can all become Priests and Priestesses by simply following a spiritual path and by devotion to a particular God or Goddess and their work.&#8217;</em></li>
<li><em>&#8216;Gods and Goddesses are Archetypal energies &#8211; great energy pools of power.&#8217;</em></li>
<li><em>&#8216;&#8230; if you constantly worked energetically with one Divinity you absorbed their energies and powers into your energy field and body&#8230;&#8217;</em></li>

<p>You do not have to shave your head (only if you think it&#8217;s cool), abstain from certain foods (only if you want to), or perform special rituals to show your devotion to a certain aspect. Your work, at the end of the day, will speak for itself.</p>

I&#8217;d like to insist that <span style="text-decoration:underline;">spirituality does not equate to religion</span> (neither does religion equate to spirituality, nowadays!).  For example, we cannot say that <em>all doctors are healthy people</em>, nor are all healthy people doctors. So the term &#8216;Gods and Goddesses&#8217; refer instead to classifications of energy, specific patterns if you may. It can be otherwise categorized into color energy if you wish. For example:</p>
<ul>
<li>Isis is bluish-white energy (sometimes silver, as associated with the Sacral Chakra). Sometimes Guan Yin shares the same light energy.</li>
<li>Anubis is velvety black energy</li>
<li>Osiris is green energy, for life and regeneration</li>
<li>Horus carries sky blue energy &#8211; sometimes turquoise &#8211; relating to freedom, power through royalty</li>
</ul>
<p>All four of the above energies can be used (and have been used) for healing. Isis&#8217; energy heals very deeply, through the body and energy centers, sometimes into past karmic wounds. Anubis heals through transforming wounds and scars and remove parasitic entities. Osiris renews life and spirit. Horus&#8217; healing energy is soft, light, cool, and brisk &#8211; suitable for detoxification and outer protection of the shield aura.</p>
<p>Last but not least, constantly channeling one energy through your personal energy field (or Aura) enables you to slowly integrate that energy. Which means, the more work you do with Isis, for example, the easier (and stronger) her energy can flow through you.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Had a great meeting with the OWOW committee members this weekend. I am happy to report that <strong>we now have  </strong><strong>definite SunFest dates: June 24-27, 2010.</strong> Mark your calendars!</p>
<p>SunFest XXII will also have a booth at the OWOW Yule Bazaar this coming weekend. We hope to have at least some posters and info about the festival available to people as well as an opportunity to make donations to help raise the Temple of Isis.</p>
<p>Our priesthood group is now complete&#8230;.we have a wonderful group of enthusiastic and talented people. BUT we will always need more crafty help in building the Temple of Isis. In fact, I&#8217;m pretty sure we can&#8217;t have too many hands helping in that part of the Work. Those of us doing the temple building will be working at least as hard AND as magically as those of us working on the ritual end of things.</p>
<p>Once again, let me express my deep gratitude to everyone who is participating in this festival work so far. I am overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and talent that is being brought into service for Isis. I am blessed to know you all&#8230;oh, and just wait until I get to tell you about our Imhotep&#8217;s plans for the Temple of Isis&#8230;in an upcoming post. Oh My Goddess!</p>

<p>Zaczęło się o 19.30 &#8211; dobrze że zadzwoniłem do Tomka z Go Ahead, dzięki temu wiedziałem, że mam być w klubie chwilę wcześniej, niż wskazywała na to informacja na bilecie&#8230;  Na scenie trójka muzyków, w tym dzierżący gitarę lider Isis &#8211; Aaron Turner. Dźwięki bardzo spokojne, perkusista grał łańcuchem na swoich bębnach, gitarzysta majstrował przy efektach, plus pani za zestawem klawiszy&#8230;</p>

<p>Po pełnym zadumy Mamiffer przyszedł czas na hip hopowca, który w kręgach rockowych jest chyba bardziej znany, niż w hip hopowych, czyli duet Dalek. Było skocznie i głośno. A w fosie zaczęło się robić troszkę ciasno.</p>

<p>Wreszcie około 21.30 kolejna zmiana stylistyczna, czyli Isis. Tuż przed koncertem podszedł do nas tour manager, prosząc o niepodnoszenie aparatów &#8211; to chyba efekt intensywnego &#8220;obstrzeliwania&#8221; Daleka (Dalka?), w czym nomen omen celował jeden z kolegów, podsuwając mu swoją eLke niemal pod nos <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> . No cóż, obiecalismy panu managerowi, że nie będziemy i zaczęło się&#8230;</p>

<p>To zdjęcie podoba mi się najbardziej z całej galerii. Zespół zaczął grać, a lider &#8211; sam nie wiem &#8211; czy coś krzyknął, czy chciał &#8220;podśpiewać&#8221;? W każdym razie wyszło coś takiego, co dodatkowo przerobiłem na sepię. Uwaga &#8211; pod to zdjęcie jest podpięta cała galeria z koncertu!</p>

<p>Yesterday, the European Space Agency&#8217;s Rosetta space probe passed Earth for the second and last time and is now on it&#8217;s way to the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko where it will land and take samples that—it is hoped—will help scientists learn more about how life may have begun. It may well be that comets impacting with our planet carried the catalytic seeds of life to Earth.</p>
<p>I tell you all this because of the Egyptian-connected names of the mission. The mission itself is called Rosetta, which was the multilingual key that enabled us to decipher the hieroglyphs. The camera on board is Osiris, the husband of Isis. And the name of the lander, Philae, is the island on which the important upper-Egyptian Temple of Isis stood.</p>

<p>With key aspects of the mission named for the Beloved of Isis and the Temple of Isis, humankind is going into the universe to learn about the origins of life. But where is Isis?</p>
<p>Perhaps She is the Cosmos Itself. Certainly, Isis has been perceived as both ancient and everlasting by her many devotees down through the ages. On the Great Pylon of Her Philae temple, a Ptolemaic passage states that Isis “is the one who was in the beginning; the one who first came into existence on earth.” Paraphrasing Egyptian texts, scholar R.E. Witt says of Her:</p>
<blockquote><p>In the beginning was Isis. Oldest of the old, the goddess from whom all Becoming arose. Great Lady, Mistress of the Two Lands, Mistress of Shelter, Mistress of Heaven, Mistress of the House of Life, Mistress of the Word of God, the Only One. In all her great and wonderful works she is a wiser magician and more excellent than any other god.</p></blockquote>
<p>In the <em>Coffin Texts</em>, Isis is invoked with a group of Deities considered to be the most ancient: “O Re, Atum, Nu, Old One, Isis the Divine&#8230;&#8221; A second century CE dedication to Isis at the Alexandrian Sarapium calls Her <em>Tyche Protogeneia</em>, First-Born Fortune. Other epithets that attest to Her primordial nature include Great Goddess Existing from the Beginning, Great One Who Initiated Existence, and Great One Who Is From the Beginning. Her Greek-speaking worshippers addressed Her as <em>Cosmocrator</em>, the Ruler of the Cosmos.</p>
<p>I envision this Cosmic Isis now. She is invoking Her Beloved to come to Her, to explore, to learn, and to uncover the secrets of life, which have always, always been held in the hand of the magical Goddess.</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Chyba skłamałbym, twierdząc, że nie czekałem na ten koncert.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Oczywiście, jakikolwiek entuzjazm nijak się ma do mojego chłodnego, analitycznego quasi-profesjonalnego oka, ale może zbyt wiele nie stracę. Zaryzykuję w każdym razie.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">10.11.2009. Wigilia Dnia Niepodległości. Trzecia wizyta Aarona Turnera ze swą radosną kompanią w naszym jeszcze radośniejszym kraju. Poprzedni gig Isis –czerwiec 2006, Progresja &#8211; wspominam niezmiernie ciepło, bo i supporty niemalże doskonałe, i miejsce, i cena. Tym razem było trochę gorzej. Warszawska Proxima. <strong>75 zł</strong> &#8211; niemało, nie ma co kryć. Zyskali na popularności, bardziej się cenią, czy po prostu sprzedali? Nieistotne, zostawmy ten aspekt w spokoju i przejdźmy do konkretów.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Godzina 20:00 rzeczonego dnia. Żwirki i Wigury, bodaj 99. I pierwsze zdziwienie na wejściu: wchodzę punktualnie, a tu niespodzianka: Mamiffer kończy swój występ ostatnimi fortepianowymi dźwiękami. Nożeszkurde, ja rozumiem, spóźnienie, ale żeby za wcześnie zacząć? Nie wiem, czy to formacja Aarona Turnera i jego żony (pięknej czy niepięknej nie dane mi było ocenić, gdyż zwyczajnie nie zdążyłem), czy po prostu organizatorzy, ale ktoś się wykazał durną nadgorliwością &#8211; a ta podobno jest gorsza od faszyzmu &#8211; uważać zatem! Poplumkali, poszli sobie, a ja idąc ich śladem również poszedłem – tyle, że po darmowe plakaty drugiego supportu – formacji Dälek. Wraz z towarzystwem podeszliśmy do sprawy po polsku – tzn. wystawili postery za darmo, to bierzemy ile wlezie. A skończyło się tym, że żadnego w domu nie mam, ani ja, ani małżonka ma &#8211; cóż, peszek. Jedyną pamiątką po raperach ze stajni Ipecac został zatem uszczerbek na słuchu. Same albumy są mocno hałaśliwe, ale zdecydowanie słuchalne, występ natomiast…</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Scena się ugięła. Na pierwszym planie MC Dälek &#8211; gangster w okularach z dobrą nawijką – ma chłopak gadane, bo mimo że miejscami  bełkotał, to natłok ‘fucków’ i pochodnych świadczył, że typ ma coś ważnego do powiedzenia. Drugi – styl ‘San Andreas meets Prison Break’ – gibał się za konsoletami i karmił nasze uszy niesamowitym hałasem oraz oczy pokaźnym, wytatuowanym bębnem. Pan Octopus. I wiecie co? Zawiodłem się po raz drugi, głównie za sprawą nagłośnienia. Tak nieselektywnego brzmienia dawno nie słyszałem – cały ten hałas zlał się w jedną wielką,przebasowioną masą, nieraz świdrującą nienaturalnie (i niezamierzenie) wysokimi tonami,sprawiając wrażenie, iż cały występ opiera się na jednym, delikatnie modyfikowanym bicie. Oczywiście tak nie było, ale osoba niezaprzyjaźniona wcześniej z Dalekiem miała prawo tak pomyśleć. Wniosek:<strong> </strong>Proxima zdecydowanie nie wytrzymała próby dźwięku. Moje uszy też, bo słuch odzyskałem częściowo dopiero przeciskając się przez dzikie tłumy w celu znalezienia odpowiedniego miejsca do podziwiania bohaterów przedstawienia: <strong>Isis</strong>.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">21:30. Po oczekiwaniu w ścisku, gorącu i pocie (Proxima cholernie gorącym klubem jest…), wreszcie na scenie pojawił  się współczesny symbol seksu muzycznego podziemia: Aaron Turner. I jego nienagannie nieogarnięte owłosienie na twarzy, budzące bardziej skojarzenia z mieszkańcem Dworca Centralnego, niż z niegdysiejszym inteligentem w okularze. Ale to nieważne.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Zaczęli. Niespodzianką być nie powinno, że na pierwszy ogień pójdzie<em> Hall of The Dead</em> z nowego, średnio przyjętego, albumu. Zaatakowali pełną parą: brzmienie zbyt bogate w bas, perkusji prawie nie słychać, a oświetlenie strzela po oczach jak szalone. Wszystkie moje zmysły zostały pogwałcone za jednym razem, nawet węchowi się oberwało za sprawą tych wszystkich przepoconych z podniecenia istot. Rozentuzajzmowani fani szaleją, skaczą, przepychają się – mosz to piękna sprawa, zwłaszcza na koncercie, na którym chcesz wczuć się w atmosferę, przeżyć coś głębszego, a otępiałe, niewyżyte <span style="text-decoration:line-through;">brudasy</span> tłumy wszystko dewastują, wpychając się ciebie i usilnie próbując zniszczyć ten misternie budowany wewnętrzny domek z kart. No dobra, zagrali, przywitali się.<em> Hand of The Host</em> i moje pierwsze spojrzenie na zegarek, zresztą nie tylko moje, coś niemrawo wyglądała reszta tej niemoszującej publiki. Ale na szczęście z trzecim utworem było trochę lepiej –<em> Holy Tears</em> to dobry kawałek, czego by nie zarzucać <em>In The Absence of Truth</em>. Fajnie, fajnie, i brzmienie już jakby lepsze, choć nadal dalekie od  słowa ‘poprawne’.<em> 20 Minutes/40 Years</em> wypadło całkiem nieźle, choć wiadomo – dźwiękowiec zadbał o to, by wszelkie smaczki przepadły gdzieś w brodzie Aarona. Kolejna pozycja – <em>Ghost Key</em> – przyniosła następne spojrzenie na zegarek. Niewiele pamiętam, chyba przysnąłem, albo przynajmniej wyłączyłem którąś półkulę. Ze stanu otępienia (i skrajnego znudzenia) wybudziły mnie pierwsze dźwięki <em>Wills Dissolve</em>. Tak,– myślę sobie – chociażby dla tego numeru warto było wyłożyć te ciężkie jak sam Dälek pieniądze. Rzeczywistość znów zweryfikowała wrażenie bardzo brutalnie: marny dźwięk położył tę kompozycję, do tego panom zdarzyły się małe pomyłki. Efekt? Soczysty face palm. <em>Threshold of Transformation</em> jeszcze było, ale zmęczony poszedłem po kurtkę i średnio zwracałem uwagę na wydarzenia na scenie oraz dźwięki z głośników płynące. Szczerze mówiąc, bisy jeszcze jako tako uratowały ten koncert – <em>Carry</em> i <em>Dulcinea</em> naprawdę dały radę, zwłaszcza na tle poprzednich wypocin Bogini. Koniec, uf.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">A jakbym miał te 800 słów sprowadzić do jednego, to pewnie padłoby na ‘fuszerka’. Obosieczna, bo zarówno organizator, wybierając taki akoncertowy klub, jak i sama gwiazda dały ciała po całej linii. Przyszli, zagrali. Strasznie machinalnie, próżno było szukać w Bostończykach jakiejś większej radości z tego, co robili. Nawet z tym domkiem z kart żartowałem, bo atmosfery żadnej nie było – chociażby przez durne, zbyt jasne oświetlenie, na dodatek co chwilę strzelające  morderczymi lampami po oczach. A zespół popełnia błąd ogromny, myśląc, że fani będą zadowoleni, słysząc aż tyle kawałków z marnego <em>Wavering Radiant</em> przy tak obszernej dyskografii, bogatej w prawdziwe perełki. I nawet <em>Carry</em> tego nie uratuje.</p>

I am Kingkajappï, a paper collage artist, and this is a video of my series &#8220;The Land Of Magic&#8221;. This series was inspired by the music of the great trumpter Chuck Mangione&#8217;s &#8220;Land of Make believe&#8221; album, and Charlie Smalls broadway musical &#8220;The Wiz&#8221;. This world is a fantasy land based on characters of mythology, folklore, and world cultures. Pieces in this series vary from 25 to 75 hours and are done on wood. <title><![CDATA[Finfangfoom - Monomyth - Lovitt Records [Album Review]]]></title>

I listened to post-rock so much in college I can still feel my life adhering to a constant state of crescendo. I&#8217;ll be walking down the street and suddenly it&#8217;ll be like the beginning of the first <em>28 Days</em> movie, a lone mind-guitar chiming in the background; others will join in, the tempo quickens and I end up running away from invisible, swelling orchestras. </p>
<p>It sounds exciting but, more than anything, it&#8217;s scary. Bands like <strong><span style="color:#00ccff;">Mogwai</span></strong>, <strong><span style="color:#99cc00;">Godspeed! You Black Emperor</span></strong>, <strong><span style="color:#db2369;">Mono</span></strong>, <strong><span style="color:#0f57ef;">Explosions In The Sky</span></strong>, <strong><span style="color:#808000;">Apse</span></strong>, <strong><span style="color:#cc99ff;">Tristeza</span></strong>, <strong><span style="color:#a5995a;">Saxon Shore</span></strong>, <strong><span style="color:#49b691;">Unwed Sailor</span></strong> &#8230; they&#8217;ll haunt &#8230; your dreams.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color:#808080;">Finfangfoom</span></strong>, named for a reoccurring Marvel comic-book character &#8211; are what you would call a post-POST-rock band. Their guitar arpeggios, bass gallops and high-hat taps drain every ounce of drama from every measure, to be sure.</p>
<p>But there&#8217;s more to it than that; Virginia, we have vocals! Finfangfoom&#8217;s singer sounds a lot like <strong><span style="color:#993366;">Jake Snider</span></strong> from <strong><span style="color:#ff00ff;">Minus The Bear</span></strong>, maybe with a deeper timbre. I can take &#8216;r leave the vocals, but they&#8217;re not near as annoying as those of Minus The Bear because the arrangements are fluid and consistently engaging.</p>
<p>Despite this quality, I don&#8217;t care for Foom&#8217;s breed of p-p-rock enough to recommend <em>Monomyth</em> with too much enthusiasm, especially when bands like <strong><span style="color:#ff6600;">Appleseed Cast</span></strong>, <strong><span style="color:#0000ff;">Isis</span></strong>, <strong><span style="color:#b52bd3;">Pelican</span></strong>, <strong><span style="color:#ff0000;">Red Stars Theory</span></strong> (well, maybe not <em>them</em>) have done this before and done it just a lil&#8217;-bit better (save <em>Two Conversations</em>; yuck).</p>
<p>There are times, mostly during &#8220;Exploding Coast,&#8221; where F-f-foom show signs of breaking out of their shell. In the end though, tedium becomes a part-time companion <em>Monomyth</em> can&#8217;t shake.</p>
<p>I guess it doesn&#8217;t get plainer than that. As with groups like <strong><span style="color:#339966;">Anoice</span></strong> and many of the herd mentioned four paragraphs up, I respect what they&#8217;re doing but, respectfully, often reach for something else when it&#8217;s time to ROCK-circa-ROLL.</p>

<blockquote><p><em>I was also a religious watcher of the 70&#8217;s TV show. You couldn&#8217;t beat Shazam! followed by Isis could you? They just don&#8217;t make TV like that anymore. (Actually after watching some Shazam! clips on You Tube I&#8217;m glad they don&#8217;t. It&#8217;s pretty bad but as a kid I remember it being awesome.)</em></p></blockquote>

<p>no escuro, antes de ficar horas no telefone com <a href="http://nasharasilveira.blogspot.com/" target="_self">minha amiga</a> a, reciprosamente, nos apaziguar (estávamos a relembrar que o dia do samba que ela me convidou foi primordial pra nossa amizade, e que estávamos com muitas saudades dos respectivos &#8211; óbio, ela <a href="http://twitter.com/gborin" target="_blank">do dela</a> e eu, <a href="http://isoca.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">da minha</a>), quando a luz ainda estava fraquinha, e conseguia ver a silhueta de alguns objetos, comecei divagar sobre as minhas tintas, canetas, computadores, projetos inacabados (um me cagou a mão, pois, no escuro, ainda não seco, ao procurar uma caneta pra anotar o outro telefone dela, acertei em cheio uma joaninha), sonhos, saudades, querer estar junto, e a pensar: é, se o mundo acabasse hoje nada disso seria concluído&#8230;</p>
<p>menos mal que ninguém iria rir da minha derrota de não ter acabado, mas, ao mesmo tempo, bateu a tristeza da não-conclusão&#8230; do tempo desperdiçado (já que não foi concluído) e das coisas [que acredito serem] legais que surgiriam! em determinado momento da minha ligação, falei da vontade de ligar para SP (morada da coisa mais linda desse mundo), e que ficaria horas com ela no telefone, &#8216;nossa, j (jay)! ia gastar um dinheirão, hein?&#8217; mas céus! se o mundo ia &#8216;morrer&#8217;, ficaria eu me preocupando com conta de telefone?</p>
<p><em>e o tal do mundo não se acabou&#8230;</em></p>
<p>não! então: mexa-se!</p>
<p>nada de ficar prostrado!</p>
<p>o &#8217;se&#8217; tivesse terminado isso, &#8217;se&#8217; tivesse sido diferente, &#8217;se&#8217;, &#8217;se&#8217;, &#8217;se&#8217; &#8211; não!</p>
<p>pensei em tirar fotos do apagão (novo <em>hobby</em>: fotografia! mas calma, não virei um daqueles que fazem <a href="http://coracaodepoeta.wordpress.com/2009/07/10/o-dia-em-que-nicephore-niepce-se-arrependeu-postumamente/" target="_blank">nicéphore niépce se revirar no túmulo</a>), e sim! elas iriam aparecer! e não, ia usar flash! mas não tirei&#8230;  se eu tivesse tirado&#8230;</p>
<p>vamos lá! <em>move yourself!</em></p>
<p>não tem aquele papo velho, que adoram atribuir a 300 mil autores e, de verdade, não sei quem é o verdadeiro, de &#8216;viva cada dia como se fosse o último, um dia ele será&#8217;? então&#8230; vai que fora ontem? o que seria de você hoje?</p>
<p>e aquilo tudo que você queria fazer? por quê ainda não o fez? ah, não me venha com desculpas, hein?! nem de grana, nem de tempo&#8230; tudo isso se arruma&#8230; aperta daqui, ajeita ali&#8230; se é pra enganar, que o façam direito&#8230; caso contrário, pare de ler este blogue [mas só por agora, tá?!] e vá fazer algo útil&#8230;</p>
