In this episode:

We talk about the Chrome OS Cr-48 “beta” notebook Google shipped out to Danny and not Andrew. As Christopher Dawson points out, the Cr-48 presents some interesting possibilities for schools, if the price is right. Chrome for Enterprise, finally. MSI files and ADM files, yeah! Another Google Demo Slam: Epic Docs Animation all done with a Google Presentation. Danny does yet another presentation – Web Tools for Agricultural Education (hire him, he’s really good). Danny finds a new web based screencasting sight that doesn’t work on the CR-48 – screencastle.com. Jim Klein’s ubermix has Chrome OS beat! (So says Andrew) and Danny can’t get enough Sesame Street.

In this episode:

We discuss Andrew’s visit with Avery Middle School and their 1:1 iPad implementation. Their IT Director, Michael Wells is moving his school into the future in a very cool way. Our favorite web 2.0 services are starting to offer more formal (and possibly limited) Education accounts. Danny covers the Google EdTech News of the past few weeks, eBooks being the big story this week. No, its not windy in studio, once again, we have audio fun as Andrew breaths heavily into the mic during the whole podcast and Danny goes all Cylon near the end. Enjoy!

In this episode:

Special guest Mike Magboo, Teacher on Special Assignment – Merced County Office of Education ROP Technology Chair (@allurbaser) shares his thoughts with us on IT’s role in Education, talks about our upcoming T3 video project as part of the K12HSN Grant and shows off his Monster Droid X. More LTSP performance geek out moments, Flash 10.2 for Ubuntu 64-bit is out but didn’t fix the problems. Danny wasn’t happy with just being a GCT so he went out and became a Google Apps Certified Trainer. I didn’t want fan boy status, so I’m only a Google Apps Qualified Individual. Check out http://edutraining.googleapps.com/ for more info on getting certified. And check out these tech resources for CA educators – Calaxy and MyBOE.org. And of course we talk about Jim Klein’s ubermix and Jon Corippo & Minarets High School.

Danny pulls a tweet out of thin air (An awesome Google Site customization):

RT @jessternrays @mattlovegrove‘s Google Apps powered site http://bit.ly/9gnmNK.

Looks like the work of the master craftsman @EdintheClouds. Brilliant!

I ask, “Can we ditch our PBX phone system and replace it with Google Talk in Gmail?”

To become a Google Certified Trainer, check out the “Become an Apps Certified Trainer.” There is a great Training Center and then you will take six exams. After passing all six exams, you become a Qualified Individual. The last step to become a Certified Trainer is to fill out an application and produce a two minute video “which demonstrates your ability to create and present instructional material.” (Program Details) Even if you are not interested in taking the tests, I would recommend using the training center to learn a great deal of information about Google Apps.

Here is the video that I produced as part of the application process. It is on Google Calendar Labs.

In this episode:

Danny and Andrew remember how to do a Podcast. We’ve been back from Rock Star Tech Camp for a month and four weeks of school down already. Danny has moved his freshman Earth Science classes to a 1:1 instruction model and Andrew has been busy keeping the lab up and running. More fun with Ubermix and LTSP in the lab. Ofris, a deep freeze for linux.

Andrew had a great lunch at the Apple Tech Champs training hosted by the San Joaquin County Office of Education and then had a day of fun and excitement at MOUSE Squad orientation the following day.

Danny is drawn back to the mothership (the GooglePlex) for a GCT Reunion.

We make an appearance on the local radio (well, mostly Danny) 1480 KYOS.

Google announces the Google Apps for Education Certification program with Tests! We both have two down, four to go.

And the mics were set too high so we sounds a bit fuzzy, sorry.

Recently, I was lucky enough to be featured on the front page of the local paper, the Merced Sun-Star. It was a great opportunity to be able to share information about attending the Google Teacher Academy in London as a Lead Learner (presenter). I was also able to share how I have been able to include technology in my agriculture courses at Le Grand High School, including Agriculture Earth Science and Agricultural Communications, a ROP course.

To my surprise the article has been republished more than once on the internet. It was an editor’s pick for the ASCD Smart Brief and also posted on a blog site sponsored by the National Young Farmer Educational Association (NYFEA) – Agriculture’s Promise.
I would like to thank Nathan Quevedo, Public Information Officer for MCOE for sending out a press release and Jamie Oppenheim for writing a very nice article. Here is the full article from the Merced Sun-Star‘s website.

Final days of the fiscal school year and the crunch is on. We talk about how iTalc can be used (or not) for Classroom management (finally some school tech). We might actually get some Grants next year. How do you go after money for Tech? Leave us some feed back on the WordPress site (no its not Google Sites anymore). The jinx is still on; no iPhone 4 for us. The power of the iPhone 4 camera/video – The Ducati “156 Turns” iPhone 4 movie and BONUS: “Apple of My Eye” – another cool iPhone 4 film. Andrew upgrades a 3G to iOS 4 (woof, woof) and then jailbreaks it for fun.

Show notes:

In this episode: Today’s special guest: Joe Bower from Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. And back again, Jon Corippo (the “Helpful Guy”) from Minarets High School, Oneal’s, CA. Joe talks about how he got into blogging (“For the Love of Learning”), the education reforms taking place in Alberta, Canada, field trips and his views on National Standards and Grades. We touch on Finland’s Teacher Centric Approach to reforming their Education System: http://www.rethinkingschools.org/archive/24_04/24_04_finland.shtml and http://www.edutopia.org/international-teaching-learning-assessment-video. Jon shares his experiences and thoughts on teaching without textbooks and pimps the Rock Star Teacher Summer Tech Camp, at Minarets High School August 3-5, 2010. Danny didn’t get an iPhone 4 but the guy sitting next to him at lunch did. Andrew deals with technical problems, most of which are on the cutting room floor (and apologizes for typing so loud during the podcast).
