Alguém que lê isso daqui não conhece o Ivan? Meu namorado, leitores, leitores, meu namorado. Eu fiquei muito mais raquítica perto dele T.T

Meu relacionamento com o Ivan é engraçado. A gente só se vê na escola e só quando tem aula vaga, quando a aula acaba e quando tem capela. Quase nunca, hahaha XD Mas mesmo assim é divertido, adoro ele. ^-^ E a história completa, pra quem não sabe, é: um dia ele me pediu em namoro e a gente namorou por 3 dias, já que eu achei que não ia dar certo. Daí ontem (dia 27) a gente voltou, assim, eu não preciso explicar tudo né?

Calmaí que eu devo ter mais novidades…

I just realized that I had a few minutes to update, since both kids are sleeping.  Sort of.  Ivan keeps saying, “It’s not nighttime!”  He has a point, but still.  He needs a nap.  Hopefully he’ll just get bored and fall asleep.  He’s in his new tent from Aunt Shannon, which he LOVES, so hopefully being in there will help.

We’re going to Diana’s later for Thanksgiving dinner, which is great.  Dave is making a special creation involving green beans, asparagus, mushroom soup and choux pastry.  You’ll have to get him to explain it to you. 

MARLOWE
She’s awesome and happy, but it’s been a rough month with her, sleeping-wise.  She’s waking more than she ever did as a newborn and taking longer to get back to sleep.  It’s common enough to have a name– four month sleep-regression– so at least we know there’s nothing to worry about.  I’m just really tired.  She likes to talk to us in the middle of the night, which  is a lot cuter when she does it in the daytime.  She’s napping pretty well.  Last night she seemed to be in a lot of pain, and I can’t figure out why…  I’ve stopped eating straight milk, ice cream, oranges, all beans, and broccoli, all of which seem to give her gas.  I’m not sure what else I can give up. 

She is a cuddle monkey and smiles at everyone.  She has a fantastic giggle.   And she still has red hair, but I think it’s starting to fall out. 

Oh, and she’s teething.  Ivan got his first tooth at four and a half months, and she’ll be four months on Monday, so the early teething isn’t very suprising. 

IVAN
He is mostly a sweet boy, but he’s been  more aggressive lately, mostly verbally.  His newest thing is to say to me or Dave (usually me), “I’m not your friend!  I’m DADDY’S friend!”  He’ll also call me “penis” and then claim to have said “Venus.”  Hmm.  Or he’ll call me “fake.”  He must have gotten that at preschool.

In general, though, he’s s pretty interesting conversationalist.  I tell him stories (Three Pigs, Cinderella, etc.) on the way to preschool and it’s pretty fun to hear him tell them to Dave later.  My favorite is when I tell him to do something he doesn’t want to do and he says, “My dear, I don’t want to fight about this.”  HA!  Also, Dave was disciplining him for something the other day and Ivan said, “Daddy, you made me cy! On PURPOSE!”  He is certainly learning what buttons to push.

“Disciplining,” for the record, usually means sitting him on the stairs, talk about whatever the infraction was, and re-read the house rules. If he’s really out of control, we’ll carry him down to his room to cool off and let him know he’s welcome back upstairs as soon as he’s done screaming.  If he’s acting crazy because he’s tired, I’ll usually just hold him while he cries and that often helps.  We don’t really do time-outs, per se, though putting him in his room is basically the same thing.  I guess the difference is that we don’t tell him that he has to stay in his room for a particular length of time; he can come out once he’s calmed down enough to talk.  The amazing thing is, he’ll actually do this. 

We’ve shown him a couple of full-length movies, like Toy Story and a few of the Christmas classics, since he now has the attention span to sit and watch and the understanding to follow about the storyline.  But we have to be careful because we never know what will upset him.  The “monsters” in A Year Without a Santa Claus made him cry, but when the Abominable Snowman in Rudolph went over the cliff, he said, “I want the monster back!”  ???  He also cried at the scary parts in Horton Hears a Who, but has no problem watching the dinosaur stuff, usually, and that can actually be pretty violent.  He does yell at the dinosaurs when they eat each other, though.  He roots for the prey, not the predator, which is interesting.

Both Marlowe and Ivan are big and healthy and funny and sweet.  Dave and I got very lucky and are thankful for our beautiful children every day.

Since I-papa is on half day leave and wanna head to SITEC, we TWO wanna tag along! So after our am session of homeschool, we took a bus ride to T3 and meet I-papa.

While SITEC (Expo) is flood with people, Me & Ivan decided that we should go JL sale instead and shop around ya! Nothing much to grab from JL sale but bought a dino pet to play…

exams are now finally over. LIKE FINALLY.
but good things come to an end.
a year of foundation studies is going to an end.
time flies.
the fun i had/have in melbourne is irreplaceable.
its so different being away from home, coming here to study, meeting new people.
i cant deny that coming here has made me learn more stuff and to grow up.
the world is just so small and amazing.
it really amaze how awesome and how shitty people can be.
well, of course i have met really awesome people.
to name a few, my bridgers, my family outing family. hahaa inside joke.
bestie ivan, quackquack kwek, clarence kua, shon bball buddy and many more.
people who looked after me when my family is not with me, people who bother about my feelings and thoughts.
not to mention idiots that i really disrespect whom i met here.
but, well, people change. i just hope for them to change for the better.

what a time to blog.
i mean, it sounds really unlucky, but.. yeah. lol.
economics paper was the last paper on tuesday.
i am like one of the earliest to end exams.
but look at it in another way, get over and done with.
and now i am sort of enjoying.
the exam stress is gone. but i dont really enjoy much cause i am so bored.
like after very busy school days or mugging (i think) days, now life is so boring.
life will not be boring after tomorrow. haha.
cause i need to pack up before my family comes for valedictory.
anyway, i am so proud of myself.
because i bought clothes for valedictory and that i feel very comfortable in it (:
you know i hate it when you have to go for functions and have to force yourself to look something you dont look ‘normal’ in, and its just so awkward.
thats why i dont really like functions etc.
but valedictory, marks the end of one important year of my life.
the most important one so far.
therefore going is not a problem, and thank goodness the dress code didnt bother me as much as i thought it would.

i was so bored today, after my shopping and afternoon nap, i have decided to watch bread.

but seriously, after one and a half episodes, i felt like dying.
and my dear zhao xian complaining how boring and retarded that show was.
i knew it was retarded, but everything i have, i have watched them before.
so i see no point in rewatching.
only bread, i have never watched it.
but failed.
i couldnt take to watch any more of the show.
very pointless and draggy gosh.
just like this post of mine. HAHA. bear with it, even though i dont think it will end soon.

but yeah.

El próximo jueves 26 de Noviembre, proyectamos ¡Allirón! en el pub madrileño Big Ben (Plaza Matute 10;  21.00 horas).

El objetivo del proyecto, compuesto por videos de Iván del Rey de la Torre, Paula Noya, Marta Azparren, Rubén Coll y Álvaro Collar, es proyectar piezas de video con la temática fútbol en lugares donde normalmente se proyecte futbol.

Mi aportación a la proyección es una pieza titulada “c.1900″ en la que reutilizo peliculas de Mitchell & Kenyon, Edison y otros pioneros del cine.

Antes de la proyección de las piezas de los miembros del colectivo Haz!, se visionarán videos  encontrados en Youtube y Vimeo por el Observatorio de Video Digital.

This Thursday 26th of November, we are screening ¡Alliron! at 21.00 at the pub Big Ben (Madrid).

The aim of the project, with videos from  Iván del Rey de la Torre, Paula Noya, Marta Azparren, Rubén Coll & Álvaro Collar, is to screen video art pieces about football at places where normally footbol is watched. 

My contribution to the screening is the piece “c.1900″ in which I re-utilize original footage by Mitchell & Kenyon or Thomas A. Edison.

Prior to the art screening, the Observatorio de Video Digital (Observatory for the Digital Video) will showcase some clips from Youtube and Vimeo.

Hoy empiezo a escribir este blog después de postergarlo durante un buen tiempo y creo que es un buen momento para hacerlo; este año ha sido de muchos cambios, en especial estos últimos meses, en especial las ultimas semanas y aun mas los últimos dias.

Han sido dias de despedidas, de decisiones importantes, de cambios dolorosos y de empezar de cero nuevamente en todos los aspectos.

Por diversas razones me he visto cerca de la muerte en más de una ocasión a lo largo de mi vida, pero ahora la tuve mas cerca que nunca y de alguna manera eso me hizo mover mi camino hacia un rumbo diferente.

Aun me faltan muchas cosas que arreglar, cosas que mejorar y muchas decisiones que tomar y aunque no será facil, me ayudará mucho algo que la vida me dio en medio de esta época que tanto me quito… el amor que siento por dos de las personas mas importantes en mi vida.  Una que ha estado desde siempre  como un sol, dando calor y a veces quemando pero que al igual que un sol no se podría concebir la vida sin ella… y la otra persona que llego de golpe como una ola, se envolvio en mi como lo hace la brisa de la playa para convertirse en la estrella mas brillante del cielo, que siempre esta ahi y aunque está en la distancia siempre ilumina mis noches mas oscuras.

Después de muchas cosas he descubierto que mas que el éxito, la fortuna o la fama lo unico que realmente quiero en la vida es tener a mis seres queridos cerca de mi y vivir en paz… durante años no he tenido paz por aferrarme al recuerdo de una persona muerta, a tiempos que ya no existen y con eso me fui muriendo poco a poco en vida… envuelto en una nube de tristeza e inercia. Pero ahora todo lo enterre y me despedi de eso… del recuerdo, la tristeza y la muerte.

En “Las Horas” el personaje de Viginia Woolf dice: “You can not find peace by avoiding life”*… y a partir de hoy yo escojo la vida.

Iván es la variante rusa y búlgara del nombre hebreo Juan, que a su vez proviene de Johanan, Yohanan o Yochanan, que significa ‘El bendecido por Dios’ o ‘El fiel a Dios’.
Su variante femenina es Yvonne, Ivone, Ivonne, Ivon o Ivana. Sus variantes en otros idiomas son Ivano (en italiano) e Ivanhoe (en inglés).

El nombre va siempre acentuado pero yo, libremente, siempre lo he escrito sin tilde; para eso es mi nombre y hago con él lo que quiero.

Mi abuelo se llamaba Juan Antonio, mi padre también se llama así. Mis padres, aún siguiendo la tradición, quisieron ser mas originales y me llamaron Ivan, un nombre muy poco común y controvertido para la época; en los años 60, y en plena dictadura, no se veía muy bien un nombre ruso. Mis padres estaban empeñados en llamarme así y, según también las costumbres de la época, el nombre debía ser compuesto, por lo que mi nombre es Oscar Ivan.

Pues sí, efectivamente no me llamo Ariel, ni Ivan a secas, me llamo Oscar Ivan. Pero aún hay más. Mi nombre completo, aunque sólo por la iglesia (ya imaginaréis porqué) es Oscar Ivan Jesús. Pero tanto Oscar como Jesús serán el tema de otros post.

En las imágenes que acompañan este post podéis ver algunos de los dibujos más antiguos que conservo. No sé la edad que tendría, pero es simpático ver como “dibujaba” más que escribir mi nombre para firmar.

Its is nearly seven pm, the lavender seeds in my make shift seed tray are being acclimatized to Karachi weather as they sit under the fan near the window of my living room, they shall back in the air-conditioned bedroom by night, and hopefully they will germinate if I keep this up. Routine is not my specialty, rules are not my thing and consistency is a virtue I long for.
Yet every time year-end approaches in Karachi, I feel a sense of calm, and it’s the same every year. I understand that I like many others are driven by the atmosphere and are affected by the weather and what nature brings to them. I read a quote once which I immediately related to: ‘There are three reasons for becoming a writer: the first is that you need the money; the second, that you have something to say that you think the world should know; the third is that you can’t think of what to do with the long winter evenings.’(Quentin Crisp)
I have a lot to say, wish I could make money that way…but there is nothing better than a long winter evening, a cozy throw and documenting ones thoughts. Though winter in Karachi as I wrote a few days earlier, is mild and very short – it is most magical; yet more magical that the winter itself is the great anticipation of its arrival. For those of us who have dedicated our lives, hearts and skills to this city- the short, smoky, fragrant and dry winter is a time for renewing our vows and foolishly falling back in love with this city and its baggage every year.
I wrote a few days back; ‘its almost time for: nights to be quieter, crabs to be tastier, baths to be warmer, Karachi sun to be friendlier and my faraway friends to be nearer. Just a few days till I eat breakfast under the sun on our tiny terrace, get nostalgic each night under that same small piece of sky that I think I own…If I was Ella, I would sing about the strange anticipation of the mild yet magical winter in Karachi.’
There was a time when each year in spring the smell of lilacs would govern my day and night, those were my years in the evergreen Vermont. My first winter at 47/1 in Karachi brought with it a fragrant surprise. A small tree planted at our entrance, which to my understanding is a relative of the exotic ‘raat ki raani’ (queen of the night). This variety botanically known as Nyctanthes Arbor-Tristis literally means the ‘tree of sorrow’ or the ‘sad tree’. It blooms each year around October and lasts the winter months.
The scent of these fragile white flowers surrounds my home each year-end, reminding me that winter is arriving. My terrace each evening is drenched in its essence. The smell travels into my home with the breeze, through the windows and other vessels, perfuming my days and nights. It is believed that Lord Krishna brought this heavenly plant to earth.
The tree of sadness, also known as the lovers’ tree is known to have grown from the ashes of a suicidal princess who fell in love with the sun. When the sun had set, she took her life. The tree represents her love and sorrow, blooming at night, radiating her passion, telling her story and shedding her tears in form of white fragrant flowers at the first light of dawn; the first sight of her lost love.
It is just the end of October, and our terrace is already populated by most of its winter visitors. The rocket leaves are growing, the summer flowers are gone, the herbs are sprouting, the grey cat ‘bilqis’ and its annual offspring’s are getting cozy behind the Banana palm, and the lovers tree is beginning to sing its tale.
Mansoor and I sat outside after dinner, breathing in the aromatic desert and discussing our winter tree. A few moments later Mansoor claimed to be getting dizzy and sleepy. We come indoors and I resume writing and researching.
Nyctanthes arbor-tristis has several medicinal uses I discover. Other than proving beneficial to patients of jaundice, malaria, fever, cancer, rheumatism and constipation – it is known to induce sleep and tranquilize. Its flowers are known to have been infused and sipped by Buddhist monks longing for a nights rest. I also learn that when tested, it only works on the males.
It is now eleven pm, and I am sitting wide eyed with my laptop on the sofa. Ivan is asleep on the floor to my right. Across me, lying flat on the divan is a sleeping Mansoor, silent and heavy. They both seem to be under the spell of our winter tree.

Película soviética de 1962 dirigida por Andréi Tarkovski. Está basada en el relato Iván publicado en 1957 por Vladímir Bogomólov. Narra la historia de un niño huérfano de 12 años que trabaja para el Ejército Rojo espiando a los alemanes en el frente oriental en la Segunda Guerra Mundial.

Ganó el León de Oro en el Festival de Cine de Venecia y tuvo gran éxito y difusión internacional.

No sabía de la existencia de este libro ni de la película y desconozco si ésta se llegó a estrenar en España. Entre los carteles no he encontrado ninguno en español.

Kasus ini bermula ketika salah satu anggota dari Brimob yang bernama Ivan mengupdate status facebooknya dengan kalimat-kalimat bernada provokatif dan terus menanggapi komentar2 yang ditulis oleh beberapa user selengkapnya dapat dilihat di 1 , 2 , 3 , 4
, ketika kalimat yang ditulis Ivan, masyarakat masih disajikan dengan dengan kasus yang menimpa pimpinan KPK yang diindikasikan terskenario seperti yang terdengar dalam rekaman yang diputar di MK.

kasus Ivan mengupload statusnya langsung ditindaklanjuti dengan permintaan maaf dari Polri kepada masyarakat seperti yang diberitakan dalam berita jatim keesokan harinya. dan pemeriksaan oleh pihak yang berwenang terhadap Ivan-pun dilakukan. tapi hasil pemeriksaan dari pihak kepolisian yang diumumkan pada HUT BRIMOB detik.com sangat mencengangkan dan menimbulkan banyak keanehan.

1. apabila memang Ivan belum tentu melakukan kesalahan mengapa ada ucapan permintaan maaf pada tanggal 6 Nopember 2009 oleh Wakil Kepala Divisi Humas Polri, Brigjen Pol. Sulistyo Ishaq.

2. apabila alibi saudara Ivan diterima dan benar2 di hack halaman facebooknya mengapa saudara Ivan melakukan permintaan maaf lewat update status facebooknya seperti yang diberitakan republika.com ( orang yang melakukan hack pada halaman Ivan sangatlah aneh, apabila tujuannya menghancurkan citra Ivan mengapa melakukan permintaan maaf, seharusnya mereka terus memposting kalimat2 provokatif ).

3. Permintaan maaf saudara Ivan yang ditulis dalam update statusnya menandakan dengan sadar halaman facebook miliknya masih dalam kendali dia. (andaikan saja sudah di hack, maka seharusnya hacker akan segera merubah password, agar dapat dimanfaatkan lebih lanjut ).

mungkin tidaklah banyak yang memperhatikan kelanjutan dari kasus Ivan ini karena kalah bersaing dengan kasus2 yang terjadi. semoga dengan ini kita tidak terbiasa untuk melewati kasus2 yang muncul dan melupakannya.

Ivanhoe es la versión en inglés del nombre Iván. Es también el título de la novela más conocida de Walter Scott, escrita en 1819. Ambientada en la época medieval, en la Inglaterra del siglo XII, narra las aventuras del joven caballero Wilfredo de Ivanhoe.

Su adaptación cinematográfica más famosa es la dirigida en 1952 por Richard Thorpe y protagonizada por Robert Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor y Joan Fontaine.
También se realizó la serie para televisión, emitida entre 1958-59 y protagonizada por Roger Moore.

De la serie de televisión, que se emitió en España en los años 70, no recuerdo nada, pero lo que no se me ha olvidado es la sintonía. Aquí podéis escucharla:

Ignorance really, really is bliss. It’s possible to go through your entire life blissfully unaware of what’s going around you on a personal level and be completely happy. Granted, this isn’t always the case. I’d rather not be ignorant about things like global warming and animal testing. Big pictures, they should be taken seriously. But I’ve found out that petty stuff like friendships or people being rude to you is something that you can just ignore and be a little more happier.

But surely it’s possible to cross the line somewhere.

Dustin Kessler is a 17-year old German boy suffering from cardiac insufficiency, a rare heart disease. His heart pumps blood at a rate inadequate to fill tissue metabolic requirements. Two years ago, Dustin had his first heart attack, and subsequently, the attacks became more frequent, and his condition became worst. Thankfully, earlier this year, the doctors managed to find a suitable heart donor and through a 60-hour surgery, they successfully engrafted the heart of a 23-year old in Dustin.

The surgery cured Dustin from cardiac insufficiency, but his new heart was too weak for his body. It pumps only 10 times per minute, a rate so slow the blood in his veins started to dry up. This would cause the arteries and blood vessels in his body to clog up, making it more difficult for the heart to pump blood to the rest of the body.

Through countless surgeries, a 2-week coma, a pacemaker and medical pumps, Dustin’s life expectancy is down to 1-2 weeks now. He’s feeling the strain, and he’s giving up hope.

If I were ignorant about Dustin, I definitely won’t be too cooped up worrying about his condition. But if I wasn’t, I don’t think I’d be more… mature?

I dunno, this opened up new doors for me. How could people be so happy about mediocre things such as shopping sprees and manicures while the other half of the world is dying?!?!

Life sucks.

On the bright side, Jason, Jonathan, Shu Qi and Keith have all arrived safely in their respective destinations. I’ve talked to Jason, Jon and Keith, and they all seem to be okay and more or less contented. Thank God.

I really really really miss my friends. Ivan made me smile today, I’m going to message him tomorrow to thank him. The stupid boy is offline already, he has school tomorrow morning (hahaha). GUYS WHERE ARE YOU? SAVE ME FROM THIS LONELINESS! LET’S GO OUTTTTTTTT!

Becoming a speaker or the messenger of the news was something that Benkler explores in the chapter 7 of his book. He says that biggest difference between networked information economy and industrial one, is the economic cost of the channeling the news to the people. Individuals are no longer passive observes and recievers of the information in the proccess of the globalization and distrubition of the information. Alone or in collaboration with others on the web, individuals have a “possibility of communicating effectively into the public sphere” (Benkler 213) by using tools such as wiki’s, facebooks, blogs, flickers etc… Thus, this opens the door for better democratization of the internet public sphere because more people are capable of  publishing the news but also being able to provide feedback. The broadcasting of the info into the public sphere has changed from the end of the twentieth century. The internet and advancement of the “writable Web in general and of bloging particular was the fact in addition to owner, readers/users could write to the blog” (Benkler 217).

Towards the end of the chapter Benkler raises concern about who will fill the role of the watchdog? He argues that web2.0 has brought us the freedom of expression which is great but only government and big corporate power can actually fight the battles of the “complex world” (Benkler 261). Benkler disagrees with this and just like Shirky in her book, he uses the case of the Senator Lott. The mass media didnt cover the Senator Lott comments but individual bloggers did. As they continued covering Senators comments they were eventually able to capture enough attention and Senator Lott resigned soon after(Benkler 264). This intervention was a good example of networked information environment community acting as a watchdog by proving that we don’t need big “corporate power” to act as a watchdog!

In chapter 3, Shirky was talking about the old way and new way of the mass-media controlled communication and information flow. Old school way of communication, i.e. TV, radio, newspapers etc,…  was one way street communication flow. The information was being created and served to the consumers. Proffesionals were the “gatekeepers, simoutalnelsly providning and controling access to information,  entertainment, communication,..” (Shirky 57).

However, with Web 2.0 the information flow has changed drastically. The consumers are now able to create, provide, control the information and distribute it without the control of the established mass-media. Hence, the name of the chapter “Everyone is a media outlet”. This has left the old-school media professionals surprised and really slow to adapt to the change. Author argues that the web didn’t introduced the new competitor into old ecosystem but it created the new ecosystem in which consumers are thriving while the old school media business corporations are fighting for the “survival”(Shirky 59).

In the web 2.0 environment publishing of the information is easy. Anyone with an access to internet can control and create the news.  Shirky argues that this has created the mass amateurization of the information and communication process. On the one hand the trustworthiness of the information that is available on many blogs, tweets or facebooks etc,.. might be lower then that of established outlets like The New York Times but author says that “the same way you do not have to be a professional driver to drive, you no longer have to be professional publisher to publish”(Shirky 65).
