I’ve been inspired by my co-workers who feel the need to get invovled in my personal life (we spend too much time together) to attempt online dating again. Do you know how awkward online dating can be for someone in my profession? It can be uber awkward. Not too mention I hate having to ask the question: “Have you ever been arrested before? If yes, when, where, and what for. Thanks!” Thats somewhat awkward. On top of that you get the gansta wannabe’s that think dating someone in the criminal justice system will give them an advantage. It doesn’t, I have moral and ethics and I take them very very seriously.

With that said, I’m worried about doing the whole online dating thing. Sigh, but where does a person go to meet a decent guy. As Wicked Moxie states in her blog (http://wickedmoxie.wordpress.com) women don’t have many choices. Actually I don’t feel we have any choices at all.

Take Charlie for example. He and I met through mutual friends almost 2 years ago. We all stopped hanging out after he and Jill had some sort of “incident.” I heard everyone’s side of the story and they were all different. I took the sober party’s story more to heart then the not so sober party. I wrote Charlie a letter of recommendation for his current job (not that he needed any help getting it), and we were always going to go out for coffee, but never got around to it. Flashforward 2 years and for some reason I’m back in contact with Jill who tells me to contact Charlie because Jack won’t let her since their marriage. Jill is not the brightest girl and Charlie had a crush on her and Jack wanted to get rid of her. How Jack and Jill got married is beyond me.

Anyways I am getting off track. I took Jill’s advice and Charlie’s new number and called him. The rest is history and mostly outlined in this blog. Breaking up with him has been the hardest thing I’ve done in awhile and I constantly find myself wanting to call him and talk to him and tell him forget everything, but I’m trying hard not to.

My thing with online dating is the fact that each time I have attempted online dating I end up with psychos and I’m not over exaggerating on that term. I’m being nice by using that term. So I’m not to keen on trying online dating again, but what other options do I have. I desperately hate going to the bars and having to change shifts at the first of the year isn’t going to help me either. Sigh. I’m at a loss. We’ll see how this goes.

Micah told Victoria that was the best nursery rhyme show he has ever seen.

Total Recall – This is still in the script phase. The original film with Arnold Schwarzenegger is super cool. They better not cast someone like Vin Diesel in the lead role.

Red Sonja - Rose McGowen starts, but her boyfriend Robert Rodriguez is not directing, only producing this film. I’m a Rodriguez fan, but with him not at the helm, I’m uncertain about this film. I’m not a big McGowen fan.

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea: Sam Worthington from Terminator is Captain Nemo. There’s potential here.

My Fair Lady - A remake to star Kiera Knightley as Eliza Dolittle. She looks the part (Audrey Hepburn played the part in the original film, though she didn’t sing.) Can Kiera sing? Guess we’ll see. Wonder who will play Professor Higgins? An interesting note: Emma Thompson is writing the screenplay.

Spring Awakening - A very successful new musical. I’m very curious to see who will be cast. The girl from Glee was in the original Broadway production. Maybe she has a shot.

Mary the Mother of Christ - with Al Pacino as Herod. Oh, the jokes, the jokes…

The Warriors – A remake Benny is super excited about. No news on casting yet. Probably will be mostly unknowns.

Hamlet - Another one? This one with Emile Hirsch. The Speed Racer guy? He better have the acting chops for this or it could be a disaster. I am always interested in who will be Ophelia. Kate Winslet rocked it in Kenneth Branagh’s version and the best part of the Mel Gibson one was Helena Bonham Carter’s Ophelia.

Excalibur - Bryan Singer is doing this film. Love him. The Usual Suspects is an all time favorite of mine and I love the King Arthur mythology. However, the original Excalibur film is awesome, so I’m not sure what Singer can bring to the story. No casting news yet. I wonder if they will remake Camelot the musical too?

Battlestar Galactica- I’m a huge fan of this series and I’d love to see a film version. Right now Bryan Singer is also slated to direct this, though it looks like it’s a long way from being a done deal.

Warcraft - Directed by Sam Raimi, this could be fun.

Baseball fans worldwide were shocked and confused by Sammy Sosa’s recent ghostly appearance in Las Vegas this past week, and speculations have been flying about the probable cause of a very dark man turning white.

First of all, is it possible to turn black skin white, and secondly, why on earth would you want to do it?

Today, a source in the Cubs organization that is close to Sammy reports the following to the website Fanhouse.com…It turns out Sosa has just been undergoing a “rejuvenation process,” according to Cubs employee Rebecca Polihronis, who speaks frequently with the baseball legend.

“He is going through a rejuvenation process for his skin,” Polihronis told the Chicago Tribune. “Women have it all of the time. He was surprised he came out looking so white. I thought it was a body double. Part of (the photo appearance) is just the lighting.
“He is in the middle of doing a cleansing process to his skin. The picture is deceiving. He said, ‘If you saw me in person, you would be surprised. When you see me in person, it is not going to seem like the picture.’ “

That clears things up, and I for one will stop all the speculation.

Apparently, what she is saying is that if you were to see him in person, it would not be as shocking as it seems to be in the pictures posted on-line.

Some of the side effects of laser rejuvenation treatments is a discoloration of the skin, which is a good reason not to do it.

Sammy Sosa and his beautiful wife Sonia attended the Latin Grammy awards  this past Wednesday in Las Vegas, and his appearance was shocking.

What was shocking is not that he was there, that was cool, as he has kept a low profile since being out of baseball due to rumors of his alledged steroid abuse, but his skin has become significantly lighter.

He is also wearing green contact lenses, which some men choose to do for whatever reasons, but that coupled with the apparent over use of Ambi skin Lightening creme, just adds up to an unusual appearance,somewhat ghastly if you ask me.

Ambi is a popular skin lightener, which was a classification of products designed to brighten the pigment in African-American people.There was a time in our existence when this was desirable, just as much as hair straighteners still seem to be in the black american culture, and conversely lip enhancements, and tanning beds are for our white counter parts.

There are some medical conditions that it is used to cover-up, as well as a cosmetic use which is the choice that is so controversial.

Many in the blogosphere have been speculating as to what is going on with Sammy’s skin.

I know that the most common cause of one to lose his pigment involuntarily, would be the skin disorder known as Vitilago.

Vitilago is a disease that deplete the skin of pigment.It was brought to light by Michael Jackson’s announcement that he was suffering from it.It starts with small patches of white skin, and progresses to take over larger patches, and blotches throughout ones body.

Many who suffer from the disorder choose to cover up with make-up,or they try to even out, and lighten their skin into one tone, rather than the patches.

The disorder could possibly be related to steroid abuse. It may be a side effect of the constant abuse of steroids, there are studies that suggest this.

All of this is pure speculation, Sammy could be electing to change his appearance, that is his right. We were all shocked at what happened to comedian Carrot Top, and other celebrities that have taken vanity a little too far for many,but it is not illegal.

The suspicion arises based on his rumored steroid abuse, and the rapidity of the transformation from his darker pigment, to his current pale looking skin.

Sammy Sosa has made no statements about his complexion, and has not confirmed if he is suffering from Vitilago, or not.

For now, I say that a picture is worth a thousand confessions. Sound off and leave me your thoughts and comments.

I needed new shelves for my closet that was threatening to spill out all over our room. Luckily, it was the man’s day off so I lured him to Ikea with the promise of cheap Swedish meatballs. I don’t think he realised the trouble he was getting himself into, the man has never been to Ikea before, so he doesn’t know what Ikea DOES to people (ie. ME).

So off we trouped to Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre and that in itself was something of an anomaly. We’re not mall going people. Well it depends on what you consider a mall I guess – what I mean is more the Westfield Monolithic structure kind. When I lived in Canberra, you practically had to pass through a mall to go anywhere. But now when I need clothes, I go to op shops, markets, Bourke, Elizabeth, Swanston or Smith Street or Bridge Road or the Clear It on Brunswick Street. For food I go to Queen Victoria Market or the neighbourhood Coles. I go to Nova to watch movies and now that it is open for the summer I’ll be going to the Rooftop Cinema. I find that I like this more than going to one Westfield where “everything” is. I’ve only been to the mall twice in Melbourne and both times it was to go to Ikea. Malls have this different air about them, don’t you think? Walking through Victoria Gardens Square transported me back to the Westfield Belconnen in Canberra. I suppose they are designed to feel familiar to people no matter where it is or is it the soulless, shiny uniformity of all the shop fronts that make me feel like bolting out of there?

But Ikea was our purpose. So to Ikea we went – to that nasty, amazing, hellish, heavenly maze that makes you smile (at the thought of your own fantasy place that would be as pretty as their showrooms) and make you want to cry (because you know your place will never be anything like their showrooms).

We’ve always breezed past this restaurant on our way to Vegie Bar or Bimbos.  Maybe we were intimidated by the ambience and chalked it up as one of those out of the realm of our humble budget. But Thursday night we saw the tables out on the side walk and it seemed a lot friendlier than usual. We checked out the menu and decided the prices seem fair.

And boy were we glad we finally decided to try it! Aside from the famous Souvlaki King, I haven’t really tried any other Greek food in Melbourne. The fare we ordered reminded me so much of food in Kazahkstan, skewered meat with a distinct flavour. Servings are huge! We ordered the mixed meat platter with salad for one ($26.50) and we couldn’t finish it between us. The bread and 4 dips were delicious as well ($11.50) and again there were so much of it. So for food that was more than enough for a hungry couple, a glass of wine for me and a bottle of beer for the boy, we paid a little less than $50. Not bad at all!

Best thing was the service was superb! Even if we were the only ones dining outside, we never felt like we always had to catch the waiter’s attention. Food was served quickly. The man who waited on us was such a lively and funny character and there is nothing better than getting excellent food for a fair price with a healthy serving of friendliness and good humour.

The perfect day for a picnic. It wasn’t too hot. There was a slight breeze and the sky was blue. Mitch had work but we met up on his lunch break. Good thing his workplace is right smack in the middle of Carlton Gardens! I haphazardly threw things together and we had a delicious al fresco lunch.

It was a gorgeous hour of: crispy quesadillas. home-made guacamole. intertwined limbs. looking up at the sky through the leaves. grass on hair. packed juice. deep & meaningful conversations. burnt salami. greasy bacon. cool strawberries. dirty sarong. uncontrollable laughter. talk about the future. taking photos. lots of love. cheesy reminiscing. mutual admiration. midday relaxation.

Just just gorgeous. We think we’ll do this a couple of times a week (weather permitting).

I was duly warned before going to the High Vibes Festival in Northcote to wear comfortable shoes and to eat before going. Mitch said it’s an afternoon of standing around drinking in the street whilst trying not to be stepped on by the sea of humanity.

But we did manage an afternoon of fun (aided of course by a lot of beer) and good company, an awesome atmosphere and good music.

We even managed to watch the amazing Paris Wells (joined on stage at some point by the guy from True Live) at the Peacock Hotel

Spent the rest of the night at courtyards of random pubs in High Street

and made our way home around 11ish via Bell Street Maccas of course.

Back when I lived in Canberra and had this blog, I used to lurk at other canberran’s blogs. I read Jean’s blog a lot as I could relate to her plight as someone who’s just landed in alien, barren Canberra. One day as I was shopping in Civic (canberra’s city centre) I saw her and introduced myself as the girl who comments on her posts. I felt like I knew her as I’ve followed her through her trials, tribulations and triumphs as a newly wed and she followed my life from Canberra to Vanuatu and now in Melbourne. Our online friendship became a real life friendship. I saw her move from Canberra, Cairns, Philippines and now that she’s back in Canberra she has become friends with my sister!

Well she just started a new job and she had her training here in Melbourne so Mitch (she felt like she knew Mitch too as she’s been reading all the blog posts with him in it) and I her to Southbank for dinner with the Crown fire show in the background and then walked her back across the Yarra to her hotel.

It seems Tony Scott has lined up his next movie, a biopic of Steve Banerjee, the creator of the legendary 1980s male stripping troupe the Chippendales.

The film will focus on Banerjee’s rise to and fall from fame. He started out running filling station, moved up to mudwrestling clubs and finally cottoned on to the idea of creating an all-male choreographed touring stripshow. Behind all this he faced a string of lawsuits and even hired a hitman to take out original choreographer Nick DeNoia. Arrested and facing trail he was denied bail, after evidence emerged that he planned to escape to India on a private plane. He ended up hanging himself in his cell, hours before his sentencing.

The tale of sex, violence and borderline insanity certainly seems up Scott’s alley. The studio are touting this as having “a tone similar to True Romance“. That could be very good indeed. The script from Lisa Schrager has no title as of yet and no shooting or release details have been mentioned.

Jessica Biel has found her post A-Team project. The star has signed on the raunchy romantic-comedy Fucking Engaged. Pretty sure that title will be changed.

The apparent plot revolves around Biel and her yet-to-be-announced fiancé who make a pact, in the run-up to their wedding, that they will not turn into their boring parents and vow to have sex every day until the big day.

The movie is an original screenplay by playwright Julia Brownell and is being developed along with Garden State producer Dan Halstead. FilmNation Entertainment, who are responsible for financing The Road, will be stumping up the cash.

Zach Galifianakis to play crazy man shocker! The Hangover actor has signed on to star comedy drama Town House, alongside Doubt star Amy Adams.

Galifianakis, will play an agoraphobic man who lives, with his teenage son, in a large house bought and paid for by his late rock star dad. When the royalty money runs out, he is forced to reassess his life and attitude, with the help of a friendly prostitute, played by Adams.

Scott Free, Ridley and Tony Scott’s production company, is set to produce with Fox 2000 locked in to distribute. Once writer John Carney wrote the original screenplay, but the project was put on hiatus during the writer strike. No news on a new writer or director but shooting is currently set for next summer, so expect to here news soon.

Mad Men stand-out January Jones is set to star with Nicholas Cage in his new vigilante thriller Hungry Rabbit Jumps.

The film, set in New Orleans, sees Jones in the role of Cage’s wife. Hi is victim to a brutal crime that pushes Cage to team up with a vigilante organisation. Needless to say things start getting a little hairier from there on out.

Even Money writer Robert Tannen is on hand with the script, while Bank Job director Roger Donaldson will occupy the chair. Spiderman star Tobey Maguire’s production company, Maguire Entertainment, are calling the shots and shooting is set to begin immediately.

After 4 days spent within the confines of the flat because of an ankle injury, I finally hobbled stepped out to attend a friend’s surprise party all the way in St Kilda. It was the perfect day to go out again as Melbourne was in a good mood and showed just how pretty it is when it is sunny & warm. I was finally able to wear a skirt without tights!

Funny thing happened on the way to the party, Mitch and I were running a bit late. We were told to be there at 730. By 710 we were still in the city so we figured, we won’t get there in time for the popping out from behind the couch bit, we might as well eat dinner first and arrive after the surprise. By 830, I messaged G, the superwoman who organised the event and the one who took the birthday boy Carlo out for dinner so the guests can sneak in. I asked if it was safe to come now, she didn’t reply so we gathered the festivities were well under way and it is safe to make our way there. Getting to the house, it was all quiet and dark. I had a split second of doubt thinking I got the date of the party wrong when Mitch suddenly whispered they’re behind us. Scared but acting casual we walked on and rounded the corner. We giggled to ourselves hoping we didn’t get caught out and a minute later we heard a big exclamation of “SURPRISE!!”. We very nearly ruined the surprise! And if you’ve seen THAT episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, you don’t want to do that.

I’ve known G since High School in the Philippines. We really didn’t know anyone there aside from G and Carlo. It was very interesting talking to other students from the other unis here in Melbourne. It was an awesome party to venture out into the world for.

Seven year old Jack always had a crush on his neighbor, Jill. It all started a month ago, the day Jill moved beside their house on the foot of the hill. While her parents were unloading boxes and boxes of their belongings, she decided to have a look-see and discovered the community playground a few houses away from their home. Jill always loved playgrounds, especially swings. She loved the feeling of the wind and that fleeting ability of flight, when she swung as high as she could and let go to spring her off the ground for those few seconds of flight. On this swing, Jack saw her. He saw a girl with soft curly dark hair, fair skin and the most beautiful combination of the twinkle in the eyes and smile. Oh, how he swooned when he saw her on the swing. “Where did this girl come from” he thought to himself.

“None of the girls in school had the giggle she makes when she went higher and higher,” continued Jack, as he marveled at this discovery of his, “none of the girls could swing as high as she could!”

Jill didn’t notice the boy at the entrance of the playground, until she heard her mom call her for their family’s mid-afternoon snack. As she slowed down, she espied a short boy leaning on the fence of the playground. He wasn’t especially tall nor odd-looking, so she decided to call him.

“Hi there!” she shouted from the swing, “I’m Jill. What’s your name?”

“Jack,” he stuttered, startled by the girl’s voice, and walked closer to the swing.

“Jack, would you like to join me for a snack? My mom said I should make new friends and be nice, since we’re new here.”

“Okay, I guess,” he sheepishly answered. So, Jill stood up and pulled Jack’s hand, as she led him to her home. She asked a flurry of questions, like the usual where does he live, to the odd question of whether he’s ever eaten fried squid, and of course, he gamely answered with one-worded replies of “Yep,” and the occasional, “Of course.” The whole sequence repeated itself even with the orange juice and biscuits Jill’s mom offered and until it was half past four – Jack had to go home already. He extended his goodbye and thanked them for their hospitality. As he left the yard, he heard Jill shouting at him, “Jack, let’s play again on the swing tomorrow!”

It was a whole year of riding the swing and enjoying each others’ company. They discovered the seesaw, but never did enjoy the slide. Jill would giggle at his jokes and he would stare at her, while she shared her life before moving to this town. And in one of their dates, Jack shared his deep dark secret, “Did you know, the first time I saw you on the swing, I was smitten with you? And I still can’t believe we’ve been doing this for a whole year.”

‘19 more advertisers ditch Glenn Beck

Great news today in our campaign against Glenn Beck. We’re announcing that nineteen more of Beck’s advertisers have stopped supporting his show. That number includes two British companies who just announced that they’ve pulled their ads from the UK broadcast of Beck’s show after hearing from customers.

Two companies–Waitrose (the British supermarket chain) and Metropolitan Talent Management–pulled their ads not only from Beck’s show, but from Fox News in general.

Over 280,000 of us have now called on advertisers to stop supporting Beck’s show. We are keeping Beck isolated and making sure that he continues to be a financial liability for Fox. Eventually, Fox will have to explain why they are continuing to give Beck’s race-baiting and fear-mongering a platform even as it hurts their bottom line.
