Limited Edition Prints by Jack Vettriano

Born in Fife, Scotland in 1951, today Jack Vettriano is one of the most well known artists in the world. A self taught artist he left school at sixteen to become a mining engineer and it wasn’t until his twenty-first birthday, when a girlfriend gave him a set of watercolour paints that he really began to paint. In 1989, he submitted two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy’s annual exhibition; both were accepted and sold on the first day. The following year, an equally enthusiastic reaction greeted the three paintings, which he entered for the prestigious Summer Exhibition at London’s Royal Academy and his new life as an artist began from that point on.

In 2004, Vettriano’s The Singing Butler broke auction records for a Scottish art work, selling for £744,500. Huge world-wide sales of art prints and limited edition prints of his works have been acheived, as interest in Jack Vettriano’s paintings and art prints has grown consistently. There have been sell-out solo exhibitions in Edinburgh, London, Hong Kong and New York, but acceptance by the art establishment in Scotland has always eluded him. Later this year that will change when the National Galleries, who have long declined to buy or show Vettriano’s paintings, show his work for the first time at the Queen Street gallery after a £18 million refit.
