If money was no object, the Towcar Awards 2009 panel would choose the Jaguar XF for towing duties

When it comes to the ultimate towing vehicle often the larger 4 x 4 cars come to mind. Land Rover and Land Cruisers are prevalent in such lists alongside the Volvo and Volkswagen off-roaders, Jeeps and Mitsubishis.

Yet when the panel at the Towcar Awards 2009 decided on the most desirable towcar that money can buy, they chose different.

The ‘Money No Object’ Award was won by the Jaguar XF as the most desirable towing vehicle over 39 other competitors. The Jaguar was chosen by experts from magazines Practical Caravan and What Car as well as The Camping and Caravanning Club.

In testing the judges considered the stability of the XF when towing, as well as it’s overall practicality. Other attributes considered included the cost of owning and resale value.

Judges on the panel included editor in chief of Autocar Steve Cropley, who is a former European Car of the Year juror. Also judging was Sue Taylor who is features editor of Camping and Caravanning Magazine and experienced at towing horseboxes and trailers.

The new 3.0 diesel is the heart of the Jaguar XF

David Motton was the head judge at the Towcar Awards, and gave this comment: “If money was no object, this is the car we’d choose to do our towing with. The 3.0-litre Diesel S engine is superb, yet it’s also savagely powerful when the occasion demands, pulling car and caravan from 30-60mph in just 8.3 seconds.”

“It pulled a caravan securely between cones at speeds which would have had lesser cars sliding off the track. Driven at sensible speeds, it’s a serene and relaxed experience. In spite of the performance, it’s an easy car to drive smoothly, with precise steering and remarkable agility for such a big car, towing or solo. It is quick, stable and comfortable – if you’re feeling flush this is the car.”

The car above is pictured towing the new Airstream caravans launched this year which have been adapted for European roads. With the heavy kerb weight of the large Airstream, how well did the XF handle towing the American trailer?

A press officer from Jaguar UK explained ‘The photographer took the Airstream away for a weekend and the Jaguar XF responded extremely well to bearing the significant weight of the caravan’.

Geoff Cousins is the Managing Director of Jaguar  UK and he cited the green credentials of the big cat. “This fantastic new Jaguar has best-in-class residual values, class-leading fuel economy combined with unrivalled performance and reduced CO2 emissions – making it an irresistible choice for the towing customer.”

Caravan Times has made inquiries and ascertained that the tow bar for the Jaguar XF is a dealer fit option only.

A tow bar costs £288 while the required module is an additional £115. The recommended fitting time for the tow bar, module and electrics kit is 3 hours 45 minutes.

Mechanically, the Jaguar XJ isn ‘t quite as dramatic a step forward. The new platform is providing a significant use of aluminum in the structure, but the first batch of engines will be a trio of direct-injection V8 Gen III 5.0 liter. The base and XJ XJL include naturally-aspirated version good for 385 HP and tours of the 5.4-second 0 to 60 MPH. The supercharged models from XJ and supercharged XJL be fitted with the supercharged engine to 470 HP and a 5.2 second time.

Series 2010 Jaguar XJ is a completely new set and had ventured away from traditional views of the XJ series. The new XJ series is the generation ahead of the series that began in 1968 and has been the British government car of choice since then. The car has been totally redesigned and offers an aluminum chassis and a rear style coupe that put the car in the same class as the Maserati Quattroporte, Porsche Panamera and Aston near Martin Rapide. The interior offers a sound system of the roundabout and Wilkins as well as redesigned navigation system.

Dzień dobry, …….. Czy wie Pan/Pani dlaczego Pana/Panią zatrzymałem? Któż tego nie doświadczył. Policja ma strzec bezpieczeństwa, chronić nas. Dlatego w cywilizowanych krajach nikt nie oszczędza na sprzęcie dla nich. Wydziały pościgowe na świecie mogą się pochwalić superatami. We Włoszech można spotkać Lamborghini, w Niemczech BMW i Mercedesy. W Wielkiej Brytanii…. natomiast na wyspach niedługo w ręce stróżów prawa wpadnie Jaguar. Nie, nie ten wielki kot, który sieje strach spustoszenie w Polsce. Nowiuśki XF z silnikiem wysokoprężnym zasilił i tak doskonałą flotę pojazdów służbowych. Może to nie jest najlepszy radiowozów w Zjednoczonym Królestwie, wszak mają Ferrari 612, lecz na pewno nie są tak bardzo ekonomiczne. 7,5 litra na 100km to niezły wynik z tak doskonałymi osiągami. Nam pozostaje jedynie zazdrościć doskonałego sprzętu.

The Fiat 500 has been elected 2009 Design Car of the Year by 59 journalists from around the world, beating 51 short listed cars from the world’s top car makers. The Fiat 500, along with the Citroën C5 and the Jaguar XF, were selected as the finalists for the last round of judging at the New York International Motor Show, with Fiat’s chic and sophisticated small car taking the top design prize.

Jaguar remains to be the most-favored automobile among car enthusiasts. It is still the brand to reckon with by other car manufacturers. Acestia au fost determinati prin vot de peste 50 de jurnalisti din tari diferite. Din cele 10 masini care au ramas, jurnalistii vor trebui sa mai renunte la 7 dintre ele pana pe 9 Martie, iar castigatorul va fi anuntat la Salonul Auto de la New York pe data de 9 Aprilie.

Care credeti ca va castiga?

Here we are well into the second half of November and we still haven’t had the need for the electric immersion heater for hot showers in the morning.  Much cloudier today so it probabaly wouldn’t be too much longer before the switch is thrown..to guarantee hot water in the morning…..

England v Germany at Association Football tonight - Much has been written that friendlies are pointless, especially at this point in the season and with Champions League football looming next week. However, Blighty and the Federal Republic have had ther up’s and down’s in the past and….. Is it ever a friendly and is it ever pointless when these two come together on the football pitch ??? Answers on a postcard please…

Went to see the latest Bond “Quantum of Solace” on Monday…bit disappointing really….bring back Q and more of the Jaguar XF please…the new Bond girl was REALLY wooden in the opening scenes but got better the more messed up she got. And from the missues point we only saw Bond with out his shirt the once I think…better luck next time Mrs Broccoli……………..

The Jaguar XF is a new midsize luxury car and sports sedan produced by Jaguar Cars. It was first launched in the UK back in 2008 and was a replacement for the Jaguar S-Type. The first debut of the new XF was at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, and first customers could buy it in March 2008.

In January 2008, the Jaguar XF won award of the prestigious What Car? and the Car of the Year award. Ideal car to take you to the golf course or to your business meeting.
The XF also won the award Car of the Year 2008 from magazine What Diesel?.

The new Jag XF was developed at Jaguar’s Whitley design and development HQ in Coventry, in the UK and is built in factory Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, UK.

The team at Ecurie Ecosse gave this Jaguar a sportier look: lowered suspensions, upgraded brakes, a reworked exhaust, 20″ alloy wheels and Dunlop SPMAXX tires. Three levels of engine upgrade are available: first if the owner decides to not upgrade the power of the engine and leave it untouched, second adds 30 Hp to the stock 237 Hp and third involves a full re-map of the ECU and has a total of 258 Hp.

I haven’t driven the new Jaguar XF yet.  I wasn’t even paying attention to it coming out, until I saw one driving next to me on Hillsdale blvd in San Mateo/ Foster City.  I haven’t reacted to a 4-door sedan like this in quite a while – it was quite the stunner. 

Will the XF bring back Jaguar?  Lets hope so.
