Na hip hopie nie znam się wcale, ale czy to oznacza, że nie powinnam się wypowiadac na ten temat? Nie (w końcu od czego jest Internet, jeśli nie od wyrażania swoich opinii na tematy, na które nie ma się zielonego pojęcia).
Poza tym stwierdzenie “nie znam się wcale” jest trochę przesadzone. W końcu, swojego czasu recytowałam z pamięci płytę Tedego S.P.O.R.T (dawno temu, kiedy jeszcze na Stadionie nie sprzedawali złotych łańcuchów). A, razem z moim bratem ciotecznym, zachwyceni Molestą, układaliśmy własne rymy o ciężkim życiu polskich raperów za kratkami i ich potyczkach z policją. Więc jakieś doświadczenie mam. Można nawet powiedzieć, że znam scenę hip hopową od kuchni.
Kiedy znudziło mi się życie rapera, na horyzoncie pojawił się Guru ze swoimi zaangażowanymi tekstami, jazzowymi samplami i Jamiroquaiem w tle.
Dlatego, kiedy usłyszałam piosenkę zapowiadającą Blakroc – Ain’t nothing like you (Hoochie Coo) od razu nasunęły mi się porównania do Guru. Zderzenie muzycznych światów, bluesowego Black Keys oraz gwiazd hip hopu, zapowiadało coś świeżego, odstającego od sztywnych podziałów. Pomyłka.
Pierwszy utwór – Coochie (Ludacris, Ol’ Dirty Bastrad), miałam ochotę przerzucić po 15 sekundach. Ile można słuchać o gorących laskach, jeszcze z zaśpiewem w stylu Eminema (swoją drogą, nie wiem skąd to podobieństwo). Teksty to najsłabsza strona płyty. Myślałam, że muzycy, w tych, pełnych przemian czasach, będa mieli coś więcej do powiedzenia niż “If you don’t make dollars then it don’t make sense” (w wolnym tłumaczeniu: “Jeśli nie masz pieniędzy, to nic nie ma sensu”).
Wygląda to trochę tak, jakby raperzy wchodzili do studia ‘na pełnym spontanie’, a potem dopiero zaczęli się zastanawiać, co z tego spontanu ukręcić.
A teraz, polskim zwyczajem, skoro już ponarzekałam, mogę przejśc do pozytywów. Przyznam że nagrania są zrobione na najwyższym poziomie i ta płyta nie zmieni mojego najlepszego zdania o Black Keys (bo o reszcie nie mam zdania). Utwory tętnią żywą muzyką oraz surowymi riffami i ubarwiają je wokalistki z pięknymi głosami  (Nicole i Nikki Wray). Podkłady są wielowymiarowe i mocne. Mimo to, czegoś mi brakuje. Nawet kiedy kawałek trwa 2,5 minuty, mam wrażenie, że słucham go cały dzień. Utwory zlewają się w całość, nie ma w nich lekkości, ani zaskoczenia. Oprócz wspomnianego wyżej Ain’t nothing like you (Hoochie Coo), na całym tle wyróżnia się Stay Off The Fuckin’ Flowers (Raekwon) ze świetnym basem.
Założę się, że od jutra posypią się świetne recenzje tej płyty i  fani hip hopu będą zadowoleni. Ja trochę mniej, ale w końcu fakną hip hopu nie jestem.

I was on Youtube and came across this rather amusing interview with Jay Kay of Jamiroquai talking about he’s music videos. The guy is a musical geneius and has some really inventive music videos which have stood the test of time.

A muuuuito tempo atrás, em um Reino muito distante o Jule me pediu pra criar uma categoria nova, para videos interessantes, com alguma história e fundamento. Ele até sugeriu o primeiro, o qual eu assisti, gostei e prometi postar.

Mas devido a falta de memória da dona desse blog, isso não aconteceu…até hoje.

O que tornou esse video tão conhecido na net foi a dúvida de como eles o fizeram. O resultado ficou bem legal, e como diz o Jule, “o video fico muito loco”!

jamiroquai have to be near the top on my list of favourite bands, i’ve been listening to them since i was in school! so i was pretty excited to hear that the were coming down for the F1, and even more excited to hear that i got to emcee the press conference!

if you don’t know who they are, well they’re a band from england and the lead singer, jay kay always seems to have some sort of funny hat on.

Quedaros con esta última definición.

No entiendo por qué la gente es tan cerrada. No entiendo por qué no pueden centrarse en la belleza de lo que están escuchando y simplemente se dejan llevar por los prejuicios que pueden despertar determinados experimentos musicales.

¿Por qué un grupo de heavy-metal no puede tocar acompañado de una orquesta sinfónica? Y viceversa, ¿por qué una orquesta sinfónica no puede tocar con un grupo de heavy-metal?

El purista de turno diría las canciones que toca esa banda, pongamos el ejemplo de Metallica, son muy blandengues, que no tiene que ver con lo que hacen ellos  y que no mola. El purista del bando contrario pondría el grito en el cielo, ya que una orquesta sinfónica no puede caer tan bajo, tocando ese tipo de música.

Ahora yo me pregunto, ¿no es esto bueno? ¿No es bello? ¿No es algo parecido a una “delicatessen” musical?

Supongo que ver a toda una orquesta con la cara pintada imitando a un grupo de rock tan legendario como Kiss, será todo un insulto para el purista de pura raza. Y para los del otro bando, esto será un verdadero escándalo y una auténtica fantochada.

Una vez más, vuelvo a preguntarme, ¿de verdad esto es tan dañino?

¿No deberían pensar toda esa panda de puristas en todo el trabajo que hay detrás de cada una de estas iniciativas? ¡Es música, por el amor de dios (ya sea Mozart, Jimmy Hendrix, Bach o John Lennon)! A quien realmente le apasiona la música le gustan este tipo de rarezas. Uno no se conforma con los géneros musicales tal cual, siempre busca algo nuevo, algo más.

Ya no quiero ni pensar los comentarios que pueden desatar un ballet como el que aparece en la película “Center Stage” (2000). En él se mezclan los elementos más clásicos de esta doctrina con música de Michael Jackson o Jamiroquai. Hay un momento que incluso puede recordarnos al mítico movimiento de “El lago de los cisnes”, ese en el que las bailarinas están entrelazadas y se mueven al ritmo del stacatto del oboe.

¿Por qué para algunos lo moderno y lo clásico no pueden convivir en un mismo escenario?

Mittlerweile ist schon Dienstag und die Formel-1-Saison 2009 schon so gut wie vergessen. Das Abschlussrennen am vergangenen Sonntag in Abu Dhabi war eine Premiere für den Yas Marina Circuit, der so gerade eben rechtzeitig fertiggestellt wurde. Wir hatten uns schon im Sommer Karten gekauft, um uns das Spektakel einmal aus nächster Nähe anzuschauen. Schon clever, keine Tickets nur für den Renntag am Sonntag herauszugeben, sondern das Qualifiying am Samstag gleich zu inkludieren. So sorgt man für vollere Ränge und auch noch für die eine oder andere Hotelübernachtung in der Stadt, insbesondere den sechs Hotels, die ebenfalls kurz vor dem Rennen für fertig erklärt wurden und ihren Betrieb unter Volllast aufnehmen mussten.

Praktischerweise hatten Freunde noch zwei Karten für das Jamiroquai-Konzert am Freitagabend übrig, sodass wir uns schon früher als geplant auf den Weg machten.

Die Konzerte (bereits am Donnerstag war Beyoncé aufgetreten, für Samstag standen The Kings of Leon (die wohl seit zehn Jahren im Geschäft sind, mehrere Freunde ganz toll finden, mir aber vorher komplett unbekannt waren) und am Sonntag Aerosmith auf dem Programm) waren allesamt gratis (beziehungsweise im Kaufpreis inbegriffen) und fanden neben der Rennstrecke in der viertelfertigen Ferrari Theme World statt, einem Freizeitpark mit beeindruckend großem Bauwerk mit knallrotem Dach und gelben Logo. Das Ganze ist wie der Freizeitpark noch weit von fertig entfernt und sieht bei Tag so aus:

Ich verstehe im Zeitalter von sehr leistungsstarken kompakten Digitalkameras nicht, warum alle Besitzer von Spiegelreflexkameras diese an einem völlig überfüllten Kabäuschen abgeben müssen. Nun, irgendwie habe ich es mit Hilfe zweier Damen  trotzdem geschafft, meine Kamera an der Security vorbeizubringen. Jamiroquai war in guter Stimmung, hat auf der Bühne herumgetobt und alle Lieder gespielt, die ich kenne. Selbstverständlich sind fast alle Aufnahmen mit dem Teleobjektiv verwackelt (Dunkelheit, Bierkonsum), aber einen Schnappschuss ohne Zoom will ich zumindest zeigen.

Gegen Zehn war Schluss mit Konzert. Damit war der Abend aber erst zur Hälfte vorbei. Zunächst ließen wir uns von einer Reihe freundlicher Herren in Gelb den Weg zeigen, …

… dann nahmen wir eines der zahlreichen wartenden Shuttlebusse, um uns zum Taxistand bringen  zu lassen.  Selbstverständlich gehörte vor und während des Konzerts mehrfacher Genuss von Bier zum Vergnügen, sodass bei Frau M. (nicht zu verwechseln mit der aus anderen Blogeinträgen bekannten Frau M.)  sich irgendwann die Blase bemerkbar machte. Selbstverständlich waren die Toiletten in der Nähe der Bushaltestelle und des Taxistands bereits geschlossen (22 Uhr!). Also musste sie ihre Konfirmatinnenblase bis zur Rückkehr in die Innenstadt anhalten – eine rund halbstündige Fahrt über eine neue Autobahn, weil der Yas Marina Circuit auf einer der Stadt vorgelagerten Insel (Yas Island) gebaut wurde. Ich weiß nicht mehr genau, wer wann damit anfing (habe aber einen Verdacht), die Fahrzeit etwas lustiger zu gestalten, indem er Frau M. die Geräusche von fließendem Wasser vormachte. Sehr schnell ging es weiter mit Liedtiteln wie “Smoke on the water” und Shakespeare-Zitaten “To pee or not to pee”, die dann in Wortspielen wie “Let it Pee”, “Pee my little baby”, “I want to pee with somebody”, “Peeano Man”, “Do you like Peenacolada?” endeten (Ähnlichkeiten mit einer Szene aus dem Spiel “Edna bricht aus” sind rein zufällig). Lange nicht mehr so gelacht. This evening must be re-pee-ted.

Irgendwann gab Frau M. auf (ich auch) und wir baten den Taxifahrer, der bis dahin noch nicht einmal den Weg auf den Highway gefunden hatte, irgendwo rechts ranzufahren,  um einen Sandhaufen zu bewässern.

Damit war der Abend endlich vorbei? Weit gefehlt. Nur wenige Fahrminuten später stellte Frau M. fest, dass ihr Telefon  nicht mehr bei ihr war. Sie musste es irgendwo auf dem Konzertgelände verloren haben, als sie von einem kahlköpfigen Riesen aus Spaß ein bisschen herumgewirbelt wurde oder eben hinter dem Sandhaufen. Also musste der Taxifahrer wieder umkehren und zum Konzertgelände fahren, wo das Telefon leider nicht lag. Da er nicht fähig (oder willens) war, den besagten Sandhaufen wiederzufinden, gaben wir die Suche für den Abend auf und begaben uns nach einem Absacker (die Küche hatte schon zu) im Radisson Blu Yas Island endgültig auf den Heimweg. (Selbstverständlich fand Frau M. am nächsten Tag sofort den Sandhaufen und das darauf liegende Telefon).

Am nächsten Tag hatten Herr und Frau A. verständlicherweise genug vom Alkohol und wollten etwas Formel-1-Atmosphäre genießen. Deswegen werden sie jetzt nie erfahren, was die Leute in dieser Warteschlange in dem kleinen Häuschen denn alles zu trinken bekamen.

Das ganze Event war straff durchorganisiert. Busse brachten die Besucher von den weit entfernten Parkplätzen in die Nähe der Tribünen. Dort konnten sie mit ihrer Plastikkarte entweder auf ihre vorbstimmten Sitzplätze gehen oder sich zwischen Ständen verlustieren, wo es Merchandising-Artikel und Fresskram zu happigen Preisen zu kaufen gab. Eigene Getränke oder Essen waren selbstverständlich nicht erlaubt und mussten am Eingang abgegeben werden. Jegliches Gepäck wurde durch einen Scanner geschickt, ich will aber vermuten, dass dort nach Bomben und nicht nach Butterbroten gesucht wurde.

Von der Rennstrecke kann ich so begeistert sein, wie jemand, der zum ersten Mal eine Rennstrecke sieht, aber gleich das Gefühl hat, die vor ihm sei besonders gut gelungen. Was an den guten Plätzen oben auf der Tribüne lag, von der wir einen netten Teil der Strecke und des Yachthafens einsehen konnten. Auch das Yas Hotel war ein ständiger Hingucker. Obwohl Architekten normalerweise eine Abneigung gegen organisch geformte Gebäude haben (bis auf die, die sowas entwerfen, natürlich) und diese abfällig “Blobs” nennen, war selbst Frau A. von diesem Bau beeindruckt. Mir hat er auch gefallen, ich konnte aber sofort erkennen, dass sich der/die Architekt/in von einem Nassrasierer inspirieren ließ.

Ja, aber was war denn nun mit dem Rennen, den schnellen Autos, der Atmosphäre, dem Zirkus, den schönen Frauen und Kai Ebel?

Zunächst die Fahrer: Am besten konnte man sie kurz vor dem Rennen bei der Fahrer-Runde sehen, als sie auf einen Anhänger über die Strecke gezogen wurden. Ich dachte immer, RTL-Formel-1-Experte Kai Ebel (der mit den bunten Hemden) wäre ebenfalls dabei, aber da die Interview diesmal nur lange weiße Gewänder trugen, musste er wohl in der Mediengasse bleiben.

Dann die Autos: Ich hatte zwei Tage Zeit für einen Versuch, so einen Formel-1-Boliden bei vollem Tempo (direkt vor unserem Sitzplatz befand sich ein langer gerader Streckenabschnitt ) zu fotografieren. Nach gefühlten hundert Versuchen hatte ich während des Qualifyings endlich einen Treffer:

Während des Rennens gelangen dann sogar Aufnahmen mit mehr als einem Auto gleichzeitig.

In diesen Momenten kam dann auch soetwas wie Rennfeeling bei mir auf, denn durch die absolut notwendigen Ohrstöpsel wird die Kommunikation mit den Sitznachbarn auf ein Minimum reduziert. Die Wagen rasen so schnell an einem vorbei, dass man Einzelheiten nicht wahrnimmt, ja eigentlich nicht einmal weiß, wer drinnen sitzt. Feinheiten wie gute/schlechte Rundenzeiten fliegen an einem vorbei, wer gerade das Feld anführt, wer dahinter ist oder an einem anderen Streckenabschnitt rausgeflogen, erfuhr man nur über den Großbildschirm, auf dem das Rennen live übertragen wurde. Um die Einblendungen zum Stand des Rennens lesen zu können, war aber das Teleobjektiv zwingend nötig. Sonst hätte ich vermutlich nie erfahren, dass Hamilton irgendwann ausgeschieden war und Vettel irgendwann führte. Gelegentlich hatte ich den Verdacht, dass es einen Stadionsprecher gab und dass seine Übertragung auch im Radio zu hören war. Jedenfalls hatten auffällig viele Menschen ein kleines Radio oder sogar einen Mini-Fernseher dabei.

Der eigentliche Hingucker war für mich mit Einbruch der Dunkelheit aber immer wieder das Yas Hotel, denn über Tausende von in der Fassade eingelassenen LEDs erzeugte jemand fantastische Effekte. Hier die Nationalflagge der VAE nach Rennende.

Insgesamt eine schöne Veranstaltung. Aber wenn ich überlege, dass ich im Fernsehen mehr vom Rennen mitbekomme, besser informiert werde und das Essen nicht drei Stockwerke tiefer gekauft werden muss, dann glaube ich, dass ich nur noch auf Einladung zu einem weiteren Rennen gehen werde.

In einem beliebigen Fußballstadion, sagen wir dem Millerntor, bekomme ich wenigstens die gesamte Spielfläche zu sehen und das Geschehen auf dem Platz mit. Selbst wenn da nicht alles mit Wiederholungen und Zeitlupen (Tore, Fouls) zu sehen ist, kann ich wenigstens meinen Nachbarn fragen, weil der ja keine Ohrenstöpsel trägt.

“I think that our Music definitely evolved in quite a natural way. It will always be anchored by my vocals and great grooves but people who say it hasn’t evolved obviously don’t have ears. My early stuff had a more organic soul/rare groove feel, before moving towards a disco sound with more programming, and eventually developing a harder, rockier edge on tracks like Deeper Underground and Feels Just Like It Should. The next one, which is out next year, will be different again.”

And When The Interviewer asked to Describe Jamiroquai in few words:

“Hard funking good time music! Because that’s what we do…”

if you remember a while back i posted up super mario galaxy video set to queens “don’t stop me now”, well the guys done it again. this time to queens bohemian rhapsody. there are done pretty awesome is the only way i can say it. the editing on this is better then most videos on mtv. i also added after the jump added a video he did for jet set radio which is a game i think is dope as hell. i mean aside from rollerblading it was a awesomely designed game.

“Number 1 DJ” is the first official single by Epiddemix, a London-based collective of eclectic producers mixing latest house trends with R&B flavours and a hint of French grooves. The collective is currently working on “The Album”, fusing house tracks with R&B, Hip-Hop and Reggae artists.

“Number 1 DJ” features the guest vocals of the talented Energy Touch, a Jamaican reggae artist, recently settled in the UK and currently working on his own reggae project with the Epiddemix collective.

The single also features an exclusive remix by Kevin ‘K-Boy’ Brooks, who has already produced club mixes for: Kylie Minoque, Liberty X and Jamiroquai among many others and worked alongside Dave Lee to produce several top ten hits including Jakatta – “American Dream” and 911 – “More than a woman“.

Formally of the wonderful funk band Jamiroquai, bass player Stuart Zender created his solo album AZUR (as you are).  Unfortunately the album was shelved by Virgin Records and it never quite saw the light of day.  ”They So Cold” is from that album, and it’s been rumored that D’Angelo is singing back up or playing keys on this song.  Who knows.  If you visit his website, you can hear an interesting interview that talks about what he’s been doing since AZUR dropped, and info on his new release Running Out Of Heroes.
