So last week one of the CD’s I picked up was Janet Jackson’s: The Best, her latest greatest hits LP replacing “Design of Decade 1986/1996″ and covering all her hits from the “Control” album all the way up to 2008’s “Discipline”. The CD also includes new single “Make Me” which was dubbed as “A Gift for the Fans”. 

I love the CD which is no surprise considering I have all the songs already, but what makes this one different is that you have all the classic songs over two discs rather than having to chop and change over 6 or 7 albums. Also some of the earlier songs sound exceptionally crisp which I love, no guess some remastering was done to bring it up to par with the newer tracks.

What I love about this greatest hits has to be the varation of song styles and topics that span through the 2 discs, something which I find can only be rivaled by possibly Madonna. Both artists have re-invented themselves throughout the years and manged to have careers that spans over 2 decades. Moving more towards my point, its listening to the CD from start to finish that makes you realise how creative Janet as an artist is before even looking at her music videos. I truly think the real artistry of perfecting your craft was left in the 80s as star’s these days seem to be hooked on talking about the same things and then at last resort sampling something that was more than likely conceived in the 80s.

You have people talking about, money, cars, and sex, or to pin point it more to female artists, going to the club, getting a man, keeping your man, leaving your man and then telling all your girls about it, but what else?, where’s the substance?. Then of course you have a real artist like Janet who writes their own songs, and yes maybe covers some of those topics but also talks about the more important things in life racism, spousal abuse, children, getting a education,  depression, empowering women, taking control of your life, the death of loved ones and several other things. So what astound’s me is when people come to the assumption that all Janet talks about is sex? bullsh*t. Buy the cd’s, buy this cd, listen to the messages, then talk otherwise. Cut it, keep it, seal it, get your facts in order.

 This weeks top 5 was a little harder than usual but in the end I got my top 5. Still Janet’s “Make Me” is at the top of my list but this time the vocal club remix by DJ Dan, the space like rhythms along with  Janet’s catchy lines has me hooked as I can only think of her dancing while I listen. I also think and hope she performs a club remix of “Make Me” on the X-Factor next week to add an extra bit of buzz and exclusivity for the UK

Coming in 2nd is Rihanna’s “Rockstar 101” featuring none other than the legendary Slash as guitarist, it’s RiRi’s bad girl lyrics like ”6 inch walker, big sh*t talker” and ” baby frisk me good check my panties and my bra” which has got me playing this day and night.

Out of all the pop princesses who came after her, Janet Jackson holds a special place in her heart for one in particular.

Miss Jackson reveals to The Times that she “loves” Alicia Keys’ music and spirit. “She has such a beautiful soul,” she tells the U.K. newspaper. “I love her for that. There’s not a lot of them.”

In addition to Keys, the 43-year-old singer “enjoys” Lady Gaga and appreciates the flattery from her younger peers. “I think it’s great for someone to emulate you,” she says. “It lets you know that they’ve watched your work and admired what it is you’ve done.”

One thing I do love about Cheryl is her new single 3 Words – and its video. But I’m even more excited by the prospect of a live performance pencilled in for the ITV1 show on December 12. JANET JACKSON wants to duet with the X Factor judge after watching her sing Fight For This Love.

My source tells me: “Janet’s people are trying to make it happen. If there is time to rehearse – it’s likely to be a big Janet hit.” And my source adds: “When X Factor finishes Cheryl will try for chart success in the States.

Pop & RnB Goddess Janet Jackson has revealed in an interview with the The Times newspaper (UK) that she is planning a European tour in 2010.  It has been over 9 years since Janet has embarked on a European leg, the last time was for “The Velvet Rope” tour in 1998. Her last tour “Rock Witchu” for 2008’s LP “Discipline” was planned to be worldwide but was cancelled due to her coming down with Vertigo, an illness which could be detrimental for a performer who dances around as much as she does.

As mega Janet fan I’m sure you know I’m screaming right now, really and truly this is what Janet needs I think f*ck the US they dont even know good music anymore, all their wrapped up in is whose shaking there coochie in a video. Tut!. 

Funny enough I’m not too surprised shes taking it over here I’ve noticed a lot of US artists are starting to promote overseas more than their home country, and to be honest it’s better, expand your market, improve your fan base and reach out to people who arent lucky enough to visit your shows in the states.

Very exciting news for next weeks X Factor Results show!

Crazy outfit-wearing Lady GaGa will be performing her new single Bad Romance for the first time on UK tv.

The American songstress who will no doubt pick something ludicrous to wear on the show, rocketed to fame with Just Dance and has followed it up with a string of hits, controversial outfits and slightly odd festival performances.

Also joining her on the show will be Janet Jackson! This will be her only UK tv appearance in 2009 so we are very lucky that she will be gracing the stage.

Like Lady GaGa, she is no stranger to a controversial performance after her accidental and infamous ‘wardrobe malfunction’ in 2004 when her boob popped out in front of millions of Super Bowl viewers in the USA.

She has sold 100 million records since she began back in 1982, and is the only US artist to have had seven top five hits from one album. Not only that she has won five Grammy awards and countless MTV awards.

They will be performing on Sunday 6 December, in the semi-final of The X Factor.

Apparently The Who will be doing the halftime show for the Super Bowl. For yet another year, young people like myself will be subjected to a halftime involving a band whose music I didn’t grow up on and don’t love enough to want to hear. I’m not saying The Who are bad and really that’s not even the point. The point is that regardless of how good an older band or artist is, halftime shows should keep up with the times in pop culture and should match the general musical preference of the fans (which in the NFL is a mixed bag). An even bigger point is that we should be pissed at Janet Jackson.

Young people and current pop culture has been punished for the past five years because of Jackson. As fans, we’ve been served with one lame music awards show or halftime show after another. For the artists, they now have to water-down their acts and their live music (which is a shame because the sense of free expression is being completely lost). Why is this happening? Because of Janet Jackson.

For a while, I was pissed off over the reaction to her titty showing (I’m not saying ‘breast’ in this sentence because saying ‘titty’ sounds more like something I would say in a late-night rant amongst friends). Now, I’m just pissed that it’s her tit that is screwing us over. That moment was not worth the past five years of outdated Super Bowl shows.

Just pose this scenario to yourself: if you were told that we would have to deal with outdated halftime shows for five years over a musician’s breast being exposed, and the exposure was going to happen no matter what, wouldn’t you want some say in whose breast is going to cause this heartache? I would at least want a titty other than Janet Jackson’s. Five years is a lot for one flash, and this flash wasn’t a worthwhile one. Considering who was hot at that time, would a Christina Aguilera flash be worthwhile? Sure. Alicia Keys? Absolutely. Janet Jackson? Hell no.

I just don’t understand what’s so hard about supply another act that is currently relevant and a safe choice. (Note: I don’t know what ’safe’ constitutes, but I’m sure revolves around the lines of non-rebellious (sorry Adam Lambert), non-hip-hop (sorry Jay-Z), non-odd (sorry Lady Gaga), and non-hated (sorry Kanye West)) Now granted, this would leave us down to Taylor Swift, but that’s fine. I don’t listen to her music, but at least other people in today’s day and age do. What’s the worse that could happen? Scared Swift will lift up her skirt and flashes her no-ass?

Actually, come to think of it, that would be very bad. I’m not willing to lose another five years over the backside of a girl with no ass to speak of.

Adam Lambert’s music video for his single “For Your Entertainment” has been released.

The video is exactly what I mean when I say Adam is boring.

The video centers around an underground world of dark sexuality.

Of course what imagery do they use to symbolize dangerous sexuality – Eve.

How do I say this? Using Eve is common, banal, cliche, humdrum, insipid, – or however you want to say it.

Not to mention here is Lambert on the cover of Rolling Stone from June 2009 – get a new snake gimmick.

Eve imagery is the most overused fallback in pop music.

Probably the most iconic Eve embodiment is Britney Spears at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards.

Aalyiah also works the snake in “We Need a Resolution.”

Destiny’s Child wanders around the forest in skimpy outfits for “Survivor.”

Jennifer Lopez also evokes natural, animalistic sex appeal in “Waiting for Tonight” – which reminds me an awful lot like “For Your Entertainment.”

And if you want to talk about music videos about underground “Dirrty” sex, look no further than Christina Aguilera,

or Lady Gaga’s “Love Game.”

Britney Spears’s “If U Seek Amy” is a personal favorite since it plays on the idea that a good woman should be a hyper-sexual in the home but wholesome out in the public sphere. Because really the only thing better than Eve imagery is the use of the virgin/whore dichotomy – i.e. what made Britney a millionaire.

To a lesser degree there is also Janet Jackson’s “All Nite,”

Rihanna’s “Disturbia,”

Justin Timberlake’s Sexyback,”

Enrique Iglesias’s “Tired of Being Sorry,”

In a jaw-dropping performance, Adam Lambert:

1. dragged a female dancer around by her ankles.
2. pushed a male dancer’s head into his crotch simulating oral sex.
3. walked a pair of males around like dogs on a leash.
4. feverishly made out with his (allegedly  straight) male keyboard player.

In response to his performance, Lambert received over 1500 complaints, was taken off Good Morning America, replaced with woman-beater Chris Brown, and ridiculed by many.  Like Lambert, I feel that female performers have pushed the sexual envelope for years.  We have the infamous Britney Spears,Christina Aguilera, and Madonna Kiss, Britney’s body suit, and Janet Jackson’s nip slip.  While Lambert may want to use the double standard and the fact that he is a gay male in his defense, I am not going for it.  He has blamed the parents for letting their children watch a show that is for the fans, while many fans are children.  I believe in learning by example.  The examples set in past performances have led to great ridicule and controversy. I do not understand how Lambert would think his racy, jaw-dropping, and inappropriate performance would not generate the same results.

Openly ‘gay’ Adam Lambert simulates sex acts with men on ABC broadcast

Openly homosexual former “American Idol” performer Adam Lambert shocked the American Music Awards audience last night by shoving dance team members’ faces into his crotch, leading others around on dog leashes and delivering a passionate on-stage kiss to his male keyboard player during theABC broadcast.

The performance of his new song, “For Your Entertainment,” marks his first public appearance since his “American Idol” competition loss to Christian Kris Allen.

According to the London Telegraph, Lambert was unapologetic to anyone who might have been offended, saying, “Maybe I’m not your cup of tea.”

Lyrics of the song included: “Hold on until it’s over. Can you handle what I’m about to do. It’s about to get rough with you.”

Shortly after word of the performance started spreading, the video was withdrawn from YouTube because of a “copyright claim” from Dick Clark Productions.

Immediately following the performance, Adam Lambert was the most trending topic on Twitter. Lambert was defiant on his Twitter page, proclaiming, “All hail freedom of expression and artistic integrity. … fans: I adore u.”

But viewers were not necessarily responding in kind. One observer described the performance as a “modern Sodom.” On a New York Daily News poll asking, “Do you think Adam went too far with his performance?” two out of three respondents agreed.

Sixty-four percent said, “It was unnecessary and inappropriate for television.” Only 24 percent said, “He took a risk and did something different that was worth watching.” Another 12 percent said the show would have been more appropriate for cable television.

Lambert’s provocative performance began with him dragging a leather-and-fishnet-clad dancer across the stage.

Wearing eye makeup and a pompadour, he then grabbed the head of a male dancer and pulled him into his crotch.

He broke off his gyrations long enough for a long kiss with his male keyboard player and finished with a high-pitched howl he’s known to deliver.

ABC producers were unaware of the planned same-sex make-out session, reports Rolling Stone. However, Lambert’s performance was advertised as “eye-popping” and something “you’d be talking about tomorrow.”

Lambert told Rolling Stone he didn’t do anything female performers haven’t done on television already – and that if ABC censored any part of his performance for the West Coast rebroadcast, it would amount to “discrimination.”
“It’s a shame because I think that there’s a double standard going on in the entertainment community right now,” Lambert told Rolling Stone backstage after the show at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre. “Female performers have been doing this for years – pushing the envelope about sexuality – and the minute a man does it, everybody freaks out. We’re in 2009; it’s time to take risks, be a little more brave, time to open people’s eyes and if it offends them, then maybe I’m not for them. My goal was not to piss people off, it was to promote freedom of expression and artistic freedom.”

The Telegraph reported the Federal Communications Commission was preparing for an onslaught of complaints over the graphic nature of the performance. The report said on Twitter and other Internet forums, watchers called the show “disgustingly vulgar.”

“Has ABC lost their minds? How on earth do they think airing this is OK?” wrote one forum participant.

Ironically, Sunday’s awards were opened by Janet Jackson, who was embroiled in controversy following her infamous “wardrobe malfunction” during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show. Pop star Justin Timberlake ripped off a portion of Jackson’s costume, exposing her breast to millions of viewers. The incident was investigated by the FCC and CBS was fined.

Lambert had been defeated on “American Idol” by Kris Allen, a mild-mannered Christian described as a “dark horse.”

The outcome of the vote stunned many who thought Lambert would be the victor.

“Huge upset,” said WFLX-TV news anchor Eric Roby, who said he and co-anchor Suzanne Boyd were shocked as they watched the program from their West Palm Beach, Fla., studio. “We were both screaming in the make-up room. Couldn’t believe it.”

Lambert had been dubbed a “rock god” by “Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi, a songwriter herself.

Simon Cowell, the judge known for his put-downs of less-than-stellar competitors, had predicted Lambert would win the contest and that he likely would become a worldwide star.

Today marks the 5th month anniversary of Michael’s passing.

Man, I have been so incredibly busy! I just NOW watched the AMA’s, so I have very little time left to make an entry, but luckily watching them provided me with some content, like I was hoping it would.

How I love Janet Jackson. I found it pretty awesome actually that Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson were the highlights of the female performances of the evening and they managed to stay classy and do what they do best straight-up old school. No special effect or crotch baring outfits… just kicking it relying on their god-given talent of song (and dance).

And did she ever dance her ass off! Michael would have been proud.

I hadn’t thought to relate her song “Together Again” to Michael’s passing, but I can’t get over how incredibly fitting it is. Whenever she sings it now, it will be about him.

this whole adam lambert thing. hm. i was watching the american music awards and thought they were alright. really enjoyed a lot of the performances…i grew up on tori amos, pj harvey and bjork, so honestly lady gaga sparks no interest in me whatsoever…the overly dramatic live shows (of which i’ve seen on awards shows) leaves just a whole host of dramatics and not enough sound pleasure for me. i liked jay z and alicia keys, whitney houston’s slow comeback…not feeling green day and wish they could go back to the rare beauty of their earlier punk…the album ‘dookie.’ i wish kings of leon would have performed. liked the eminem performance and i think that carrie underwood is a very talented artist…odd that taylor swift won so many and didn’t show up because of rehearsal in london but who am i? the thing that gets me the most and is getting the most publicity is american idol, adam lambert’s (a very gorgeous young man…btw) performance. i consider myself open minded however for me it was entirely out of place, way too over the top and repulsive. i really don’t wanna see oral sex simulation during a dick clark american music awards broadcast. silly me? he’s apparently unapologetic about it…and wants to equate it to janet jackson’s (who was incredibly awesome) crotch grab on a male dancer. or wants to equate it the mads and britney kiss…well, adam the networks didn’t air your kiss. and ok, janet did like six songs in a row…it was quick and she wasn’t really like…sexualizing her 1 second much as 3 minutes of his performance. lambert held a dude’s head to his crotch and continued to move his pelvis with the dude’s head. not only that he tugged between the legs of a female dancer, repeatedly…i wasn’t sure if something was supposed to pop out or what. it was too much. even for me…it was way too much. the saddest thing however is that if lambert had been akon or 50 cent or lil wayne or little richard. we have insane double standards in this country. take the janet and justin superbowl show…the media and we (not i) went crazy. you would have thought janet jackson murdered someone or had sex on air…her nip popped out. we see the nip as infants. big freakin deal. he nor she ever licked or fondled the nip…it just showed up for like a half second. you also would have thought justin timberlake was on mars during the performance, he was the garment revealer or ripper…the press hate fest focused on jackson…but justin…he was right there. insert any ethnic entertainer gay or straight…fines and talking heads would be going crazier than the electronics line will be at wal-mart tomorrow morning. we have such a bias way of thinking in this country and it’s quite sad…but true as metallica would say.

and as much as i promise i won’t watch ‘dancing with the stars’ ever again…i watch only to see it repeat a catastrophe. there’s no way that donny osmond was a better dancer than mya or kelly osborne…so i wish they’d stop letting the producers dictate the results. also, lil kim was absolutely robbed last year…mya and her top performing all season self was robbed as well. i’d feel much better if kelly osborne would have won…oh well.

Rhap Salazar’s debut album from Star Records is a tribute to Michael Jackson.

It’s always exciting to see a new star rise to fame in a short period of time.

Imagine being 12 years old and being able to sing Michael Jackson’s songs that he did when he was around the same age.

It’s lovely they found someone young to relive those moments for the next generation, creating fans of Michael Jackson’s music and that of Rhap Salazar’s voice.

The Jackson 5 debut album song was ABC in 1970 on the American Bandstand.

Back in July, TBT: The Magazine reported that Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri had ended their seven-year relationship. When Jackson was making her rounds, during the summer, after her brother’s death, Dupri was notable absent. Once the death of Michael was slipping out of the headlines, Janet Jackson confirmed that she and Jermaine Dupri were over.

Despite her statements, some wanted to speculate that the two were still together. For the past few months, there has been speculation of Janet Jackson still seeing Jermaine Dupri. She is working on a new album and Jermaine Dupri is one of the best producers in the music industry. Janet is in desperate need of a hit, so she called on her old flame.

Some want to say that the two are reuniting, but Janet Jackson has denied these allegations. She said that her relationship with Jermaine Dupri is over. The two remain very good friends, but there is simply no chance of these two ever being in a romantic relationship again. For all of those hoping for something to happen, it is time to keep dreaming.
