Yo viajaba hacia Colonia desde Berlín. Había contactado con Leah a través de www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de.
Al principio todo fue bien, incluso tuve la sensación de que teníamos en común un sinfín de cosas, a saber: gustos musicales, la necesidad de vivir nuevas experiencias, las ganas de explorar nuevos países, pero,  sobre todo, la inclinación a seguir nuestros instintos.
Sin embargo, en algún punto entre Hannover y Dortmund, perdí la sonrisa y mis ojos se abrieron tanto que aun me duelen.
Leah empezó a hablarme de David Koresh, de sus aspiraciones secretas.
-Voy a fundar un pueblo nuevo. Allí la gente será más feliz. Adorarán a un Dios verdadero.
-¿Hablas en serio?
-Por supuesto. Si quieres, puedes unirte a mí. Será algo maravilloso.
La conversación siguió durante una hora más. De pronto, llegamos a Colonia.
Cuando bajé del coche, estuve pensando largo rato en todo lo que Leah me había contando.

Tres meses más tarde, hice el camino de vuelta. Janina erá la mujer más hermosa que había visto en años. Tenía una cara preciosa, el pelo rubio, los ojos grandes y verdes y , además, era lista y simpática.
Al final del trayecto, le di las gracias mil veces. Justo después de poner el pie sobre Berlín, Janina dijo:
-Leah te envía recuerdos desde Neustadt. Dice que deberías pensar de nuevo en todo lo que hablasteis.
Sorpresa infinita.
-Gracias, Janina, pero no es lo mío. Solo cambiaría de opinión si el sexo estuviese asegurado por derecho y las chicas del pueblo fuesen tan guapas como tú.
-Las chicas son como yo y están tan cachondas que si te vuelves mañana conmigo follarás más que en toda tu vida. Si te apetecepodemos empezar esta noche.
-Soy tu hombre, fundemos un nuevo pueblo, qué cojones, un mundo nuevo. Pero primero vamos a tu casa. Y Mañana, mañana tenemos trabajo que hacer.

My family

Alright…so a quick update on my brother, since I burdened you all with my sadness at missing his team’s opening game.

That night, his team won 14-10!!!  WOOHOO!

Then on Friday, Sept 4 I witnessed the Falcon Falcons (my brother’s team), STOMP the Englewood Pirates 40-6!!!  DANG!  I would say Charlie played a total of 10 minutes.  It’s a big team and he’s a junior, so he doesn’t get much field time.

This last class weekend, Sept 11, Charlie and the Falcons played in Alamosa.  Apparently that school doesn’t have lights on their field, so their Varsity game started at 4 pm!  Anyway, the Falcons won that game 35 to 7.  Sadly, Charlie only got about 5 minutes of playing time, but in that time he made 3 tackles and 1 sack!  Momma Bear wasn’t very happy about the 5 minutes, and my very angelic mother who never says the word “dang” called the coaches “bastards” which I find HILARIOUS!

Needless to say, I am extremely proud of my brother.  It sucks that he doesn’t get much playing time, but next year he will be the guy to watch for…I just know it!  He was very proud of his  short but lucrative performance at the most recent game.

This is a picture of my family…I am very proud to say I’m the “big sister” to this bunch of goofballs.  The guys pictured are my brothers, Jeff on the left and Charlie on the right.  I’m the oldest and Charlie is the baby.  The gorgeous graduate next to me is my sister, Mary Lou (future brain surgeon) and next to her is Jeff’s wife, Des.  She has only improved our family in wonderful ways!

In my (never) humble opinion, these are the greatest siblings I could have!

Berlin, Deutschlands größte Stadt.

Für fünf Tage wohnte ich bei Nadine, mit ihrem Hund Murphy und Mitbewohner André in ihrer WG. Die Wohnung, nur 3 Minuten zu Fuß vom Schloss Charlottenburg entfernt, diente als Ausgangspunkt meiner Touren durch Berliner Viertel.

Wenn ich ehrlich bin – Berlin ist mir zu voll mit Touristen. Jetzt im Sommer besonders. Jaaaa, ich bin selber einer, und sollte solche Sätze vll. nicht sagen. Aber wenn man nicht normal durch die Straßen laufen kann, weil überall Leute mit Kameras im Weg stehen und ganze Straßen nur der Touristen abfertigung dienen, nervt es auch mich als… “Besucher von Freunden”.^^

Ich war zwar am Checkpoint Charlie, dem Brandenburger Tor und auch am Potsdamer Platz (Sony Center), aber das waren eher die langweiligen Stationen, an denen ich nach ein paar Minuten nichts faszinierendes mehr fand. Interessant waren eher Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg und Friedrichshain. Der “Prenzl-Berg” hat eine alte Kulturbrauerei, in der nun unter anderem ein Musik Instrumenten Laden untergebracht ist. Ich wollte dort ein wenig Schlagzeug spielen und Sticks kaufen. Der Konzern “Just Music” hat Geschäfte in Hamburg, Berlin und München. In Hamburg hatte ich schon oft allemöglichen Sachen angetest – Doch in Berlin lag auf wirklich jedem Instrument das Schild “Bitte nicht anspielen – Verkäufer fragen” Also sprach ich mit den Angestellten:

Jene erklärten mir, dass unsachlicher Gebrauch der Exponate häufig zu einer Unverkaufbarkeit eben dieser führten. Und die harten Zeiten ließen das nicht mehr zu. Der ganze Markt ist so geschäftstüchtig geworden… Grade Musikinstrumente, Kunstgegenstände! sollten doch erlebbar sein, ich kaufe doch ein Becken nicht wegen dem Namen und dem Aussehen.  Naja ich durfte dann doch – ausgestattet mit Handschuhen und Test-Sticks – ausprobieren, was ich wollte. Und erstand am Schluss ein Übungs-pad, dass klein genug ist, um es mit nach Indien zu nehmen. Ich spielte es einen Tag später  im Tiergarten, also im Park unweit der Siegessäule, zum ersten mal ausgiebig ein. Danach ging es zum Englischen Garten, in dem kostenlose Konzerte veranstaltet wurden und werden. An zwei Tagen war ich dort, einmal eine super Cuba Combo, einmal entspannter Soul. Geregnet hat es bei beiden.

An zwei Abenden war ich mit Nasko unterwegs, beim zweiten mal war auch Janina dabei. Während der erste Abend in einem Club namens “Lido” mit Rock Musik eher durchschnittlich verlief, beschlossen wir am zweiten Abend ins Berghain zu gehen. Das Berghain ist ein Szene-Club, von dem ich schon in Hamburg begeistertes gehört hatte. Einer meiner Lieblingskünstler, Aaron Funk alias Venetian Snares war dort auch aufgetreten. Der Club ist für seine langen Parties bekannt: Teilweise kommen die Leute erst um 14:00Uhr, um dann am Nachmittag noch Party zu machen. In der oberen Tanzhalle, in der mein Brustkorb vom Bass massiert wurde, konnten wir durch die Ritzen der Rolladen die Sonne über Berlin aufgehen sehen.  Als Nasko, Janina und ich um 6:00Uhr Morgens aus dem Club kamen, war die Schlange immer noch über 100Meter lang. Wir selbst hatten fast eine Stunde angestanden.

Auf mitfahrgelegenheit.de fand ich dann ein Angebot – jemand verkaufte sein Bahn-Ticket, dass er nun doch nicht mehr brauchte. So fuhr ich am Dienstag, dem 28.07.09 vom Berlin HBF, einem imposanten aber nicht schönen modernen Bau mit dem IC zurück ins Ruhrgebiet, da ich mich nun doch noch ums Visum kümmern musste – dazu mehr im seperaten Post “Der Freiwilligendienst und seine Probleme: Visa”.

Continuing with the plug my talented friends so that more people read my blog . . . we got Alexander The . . .

I met this dude back on the Debut and Wedding circuit when I used to breakdance and rap and Alex used to sing.  He used to sing the hits, like I Believe I can Fly and a host of classic Tagalog ballads.  I think he says his momma made him do it.  But if you look at it, it was good practice.  Alex has come along way from making pre-menstrual debutantes gush over him.  He makes his own fucking music now and it’s the shit.

Based out of Kensington Market, Alexander The . . . is the producer for Toronto groups Times Neue Roman and Stryofoam Ones.  His music has been featured on television shows like CSI with more to come.  And now he is starting (i think) to drop his solo shit.  Which is bananangers.

So Alex is a musician in the truest Toronto sense.  Meaning he hustles, hustles, hustles.  You wanna be a musician (or anything that means not working in a bank) in this town you gotta have your hands dipped into as many projects as possible.  Or not eat.  What also makes his music quintessentially Toronto is that his range is diverse.  As a producer, you can tell him what you need and he’ll whip it for you with quality.  Just like finding the good food or a decent woman in the city.

His new track Janina has elements of everything I like about music.  But we’ll get into it more as he drops more shit.  Which is every first Tuesday of the month?  For how fuckin long, Jay? (Alexander The . . . blog)

Had a dream where Helen C. was giving me, Auntie Fonda, and little Rachel’s grandma a lot of jelly cups to eat while we were in Eunice’s old house. We were also signing various birthday and Christmas cards: Mark Hainsworth (whose birthday is actually on the 12th), Uncle Richard, Hon, and various others whom I haven’t seen in years. Jon noticed a stack of Christmas cards addressed to various people, but I recognized the names from our parents’ Christmas card list. The dream just ended when we were busy trying to corral little Gabriel and Nathaniel! Weird… I know I have cards for the little boys, but not sure what would trigger it unless it was my prepping twenty cards with greetings and stickers last night!

I love this example of irony, for obvious reasons: In 1900, prison inmate Charles Justice came up with a way to improve the restraints on the electric chair while performing his cleaning duties in the death chamber. His idea was to replace the leather straps with metal clamps in order to secure the inmate more firmly and also reduce the problem of burnt flesh. Justice might have wished he had kept his mouth shut. After his release, he was given the death penalty after being convicted of murder. How was he killed? Had a dream where flowers and weird buttons were taking over my LJ profile page: the
“WATER!” button did indeed provide liquid refreshment for the virtual plants, but the “BUZZ!” button only got bees to swarm / pollinate one or a few flowers at a time. Johnny, Martin, Nathan, Calla, and others were standing outside in the snow when Jon, Dianne, Hon, and their friends started parading black chairs around the plinth. This was apparently to express their joy that Sean and Tracy were back. What a weird dream! Bill S. has added me to Facebook: wonder what Janina thinks of that, haha. (exes!) Might add Daniel L. there, just so he can see the extent of my Grammar Nazi tendencies, haha. Sorry, Chrissy.
