Robin Thicke’s latest work, “Sex Therapy” is definitely a “get it poppin” album. I mean the album is called “Sex Therapy” for God sake, what do you expect? He draws you into his sex therapy theme with great musical productions and of course what we really enjoy, his soothing vocals. I think the best feature of the album are the interludes or “office visit” themed songs. The creativity that went into the interludes is inspiring and probably has the best musical arrangements. I think purchasing this album is a good look. PLUS it is a necessary addition to the cold nights with your “snow bunny.” – enjoy.

Favorite Track: “Million Dollar Baby” (feat. Jasmine Sullivan)

Honorable Mention: “Jus Right”

So he is admittedly “confounded by reports that Nordegren may have ‘gone ghetto’ on Woods after allegedly hearing that he was having an affair.”

I suggest Mr Bernstein listen to Jasmine Sullivan’s “Bust your windows,” not only because it is one of the best songs of 2009 but because it so eloquently and rationally explains how things might have escalated and why Mrs Woods may have “gone country club” on Mr Woods’ Escalade.

I have a really good feeling that Ms Sullivan might be able to unravel “The Mysterious Mrs. Woods” for Mr Bernstein. And for Mr Woods, too.

Story Behind the Song

The backing composition was made from pure emotion as it is with most of the productions I care about the most. Intense emotion breeds art. Love and pain are some of the most intense emotions in existence. This song was a product of both.

Anytime you’ve invested a large portion, maybe even the whole of yourself into someone or something, and it doesn’t work out the way you expected it to, you (a) don’t want that work and effort to have been in vain so you fight for that person or thing even after it’s already lost and then you (b) continuously run over how you could’ve changed things so that things would be different in the present. You find yourself in the midst of a civil war playing the “what if” game and perpetually searching for the answer to a seemingly innocent three-letter word question — Why?

It during one of those times in my life when I made the backing composition and wrote the chorus. Eventually the summer came, my talented cousin, Ms. Shannon Evans, came into town, heard the beat and hook; penned two verses, sung 6-8 amazing takes of each verse (It was tough deciding what to cut and use because everything sounded so rich and good.); and you have the result here.

Last Night, I saw The Wiz at City Center. Here is my review:

It was very good. It was not the best adaptation of the show I have seen, but it was very good. Initially, I had my doubts about Ashanti in the lead role of Dorothy. Dorothy has two of the biggest songs of the show, “Be a Lion” and “Home.” But I am happy to say that Ashanti proved me wrong. She held her own vocally. I was very impressed. Her acting was not bad either. She is very good at playing a little girl. Plus she looked beautiful. I noticed Ashanti’s singing improved with her single “The Way That I Love You” off of her last album, and she has kept it up. You are winning me back as a fan, Ashanti.

The rest of the cast was great. Everyone was on point with their characters and their voices were excellent. Tichina Arnold (Everybody Hates Chris & Martin) was very impressive. She is quite the diva with a huge voice. I hope she gets more chances to show it off. LaChanze (The Color Purple) is always phenomenal. Her voice is a powerhouse. She is a star and I could see her up there with the Broadway legends.

The entire show had a hood undertone to it. For example, the ‘yellow brick road’ consisted of people dressed in all black with yellow high-top sneakers on, dancing around the characters. Addapearle also warned Dorothy to beware of the Poppies because they will make you fall asleep and you will wake up with your clothes ‘out of style’ and your ‘weave messed up’. It was creative and connected with the audience. I wished for better choreography in the big dance numbers like “Tornado,” but their rendition was not bad.

The costumes were hits and misses. For the most part I was very impressed. The witches costumes were very good. The flying-monkeys, munchkins, and poppies were very symbolic and got the point across. All the costumes we very creative except for Dorothy’s. We first see her in Kansas, in a pair of black and white Chuck Taylor’s, skinny jeans, and a blue-sparkle dress that looks like it was on sale at Conway. We do have to look at Dorothy for the entire show, I wish they could have put some creativity in her costume.

This is what I would have loved to see. I want someone young who is a rising star to play Dorothy. Ashanti was cool, but I want a young power house to blow the audience away. Stephanie Mills did that on Broadway in the original production of The Wiz at the young age of 16. That is why I recommended Tiffany Evans in an earlier post. Below is a video of the talented Jasmine Sullivan at age 11 singing The Wiz’s showstopper “Home.” This is what I’m talking about.

Though most of you are unaware of this character’s existence, Bizzle doesn’t mind, because every chicken head worth her Apple Bottoms in Miami jocks this guy. Known for stuntin, turning down record deals and making one of his own, Bizzle is on his grizzy no dizzle. Having started his label Chowtime Ent. in 2000 it was not too long before Bizzle became frustrated with his label, primarily the performance of the artists he was putting on.
