Over the past couple of weeks rumors have been circulating that three veteran Saturday Night Live cast members will be leaving the show: Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, and Jason Sudeikis. But even with the loss of long-time cast members, I believe that the show will come out fine.

It’s like this state of denial that we, as SNL viewers, go through. It happened when Jimmy Fallon left in 2004, when Tina Fey left in 2006, and when Amy Poehler left in 2008. But, in the end, the show moves on and new, talented actors pick up the comedic slack. It also gives current cast members a better chance to step up their games.

When you break it down, the most drastic loss will be Kirsten Wiig. In many cases, she carries the skits. Her ability to simply make a facial expression and cause the audience to go nuts is a special ability that we will miss as viewers of the show. But let’s look at it this way, with Wiig gone from SNL, it will give her more opportunities to make great movies. If Bridesmaids is something she could create and star in while juggling her time and commitments to SNL, imagine what type of material she can come up with when her sole commitment is to writing a script and starring in a new comedy.

As for the other two, their leaving gives them more opportunities to expand their careers. I could see Sudeikis in an NBC show, like Poehler and Fey. And to be frank, I dont think his leaving the show will really make a difference since he is featured in fewer skits in each episode. And as for Samberg, hopefully this transition will give him more time to star in movies rather than just do cameos.

So all in all, I’m confident that Lorne Michaels will rework the cast and make up for lost talent.
