for starters, i wouldn’t consider myself a fan of asian movies, for nothing as much as a real reason

but, if i were to give one reason for watching a particular one, it’ll be the actors in it

in this case, it’s for Jay Chou that i sat through the length of this movie

with a plot centered around some mumbo- jumbo about the horse- riding Sandstorm Legion and the Eagle of the Desert, i think this is what that had made this fantasy- adventure somewhat dingy

there are also many characters that appear and disappear without any substantial reason for it, while Will Liu’ s character and Baron Chen’ s character exist for the purpose of Jay Chou’s fight scenes (wait, there’s one other guy also, the one who dressed up like an eastern cowboy==> well, a friend of mine referred to it as such)

and there’s this actress that i didn’t know who she was until i googled her who made me to do a double take for she had facial features that was quite similar to Michelle Yeoh, Miao Pu’s the name

anyways, it was a worth watch since the fighting scenes are REALLY COOL to boot and i love the sight of Jay Chou riding a big bike     aww… man, i wonder how can there be people out there who says that he ain’t handsome

however, unless you’ re a die- hard Jay Chou fan or someone who is totally obsessed with the squeaky- voiced top model, Lin Chiling, you shouldn’t expect this one movie to be praise- worthy

Went to see Jay Chou today at the same place where I saw Eddie Peng last week for the interview at 933fm. =]

Here’s what happened:
3 vans arrived. When the doors opened, everything happened so fast in front of us.
Bodyguards and security guards spilled out from the vans.

We were rather confused at first.
For me, it was like a pre-kidnapping/gang fight scene from a movie ‘cos all the security people looked fierce and ready for a good fight.

No kidding.

I spotted Lin Chiling, the female lead in The Treasure Hunter easily as she donned brighter clothes.

I couldn’t find Jay Chou in the sea of black.
Noticed someone in black suit who looked vaguely like him and asked Jov which was him.

“In front of the blue shirt”, Jov exclaimed.

I was right.

But, I was rather surprised as I was expecting him to be taller.
Now that I think of it, maybe he is tall… Just that the security people are exceptionally tall.
Hmm, that make sense.

Anyway, I totally forgot about the director’s existence until Jov mentioned to Megs, Flo, Steph and I something along this line after the enormous gang proceeded up to the studio and Yam/n and Shireeen left for the edit suite that “no wonder the expressionless man looked familiar”.

After wards, they went back to the office to wait for Yam/n and Shireeen to be done before going to Vivo for Treasure Hunter gala premiere.

Thanks XY for the tickets again although I didn’t go ‘cos I aren’t in the right mood these days.. and it ends even later than Bodyguards and Assassins and I do not want to spend another 21+ bucks on cab fare again! =X

This concept started forming in my head when I watched this Jay Chou movie. I know it’s a bit late to catch it (was it more than 2 years after it was released?) So anyway, Kelvin’s sister gave me the movie file, and when I started watching it I was somehow really hooked. I actually re-watched it again the next day and would sometimes leave it to play when I go to sleep (a bit mad I know, but the soundtrack is superb so it makes great background music). 

Time Travel Piano

So the movie is about how this girl travels through time by playing a piano piece on this old piano in a room – the speed at which the music is played determines the direction of time she travels in. 

As with most movies with a male and female character, there’s a love story involved. 

The stuff I basically love about the movie are: 

1. The colour and dreamy feel of the entire film. It’s almost always in this slight sepia-tone which makes it even more surreal. 

2. Outfits of the chracters – primarily their uniforms. I’m a sucker for blazers and nicely cut shirts and the preppy look and this has it all! 

Would love to wear these uniforms!

3. The concept of time travel, which I will be elaborating in the rest of this post.

Time Travel – I think it’s something that has been debated in many fields and today I’ll share my concept of time travel. 

It all started when there was this scene in the movie about how Jay and the female lead were sharing a toast with an ice-cream cone. She was saying that the ice-cream tasted really good and she never had it before. So I was just wondering, if she went back in time she could have gotten the recipe and made ice-cream and made money out of it, since she knew it tasted great and that everyone would eat it in future. 

So here’s my proposition: everyone can time travel, and people who invent stuff and came up with great industries did travel through time. 

Now before you start imagining people flashing through space etc., I would like to clarify something: I haven’t really established how the process happens exactly, but I envision it to be something like when you’re (day-)dreaming. Your mind wanders off to somewhere else and maybe got too far off and went into the future instead. We might all have time travelled before – have you experienced moments of Déjà vu? When you’re sure you’ve seen somthing or been somewhere or had the same experience before but not in reality? Just like that, I believe that great inventors and entrepreneurs saw something in future that was different from the present and if they travelled through time and got the chance to stay there for more moments (maybe having a chance to linger on in their dream for more hours), they would have seen how these new inventions worked/were created and can thus make them for real when they come back to the present reality.

In my concept of time travel, I believe that everything the universe has to happen has already happened/is pre-destined and recorded somewhere, somewhat like in a tape (I don’t know why I visualise this in a tape rather than a DVD but nevermind). But despite being pre-destined, I feel that we have the power to change these destinies. Very much like an Excel Spreadsheet, if one does (go back in time to) change something, it has immediate impact on the other cells it is linked to and the future happenings recorded in the tape will change together as well.

We can travel both back and forward in time, but we can only feel the impacts of change in the time where we made the change:

Example 1.: If we travelled forward in time and picked up a special gadget used in future (hmm, how about personal mini vaccum cleaners for pores) and brought the idea back to the present and tried inventing it now, the future from this moment on may/may not be changed (depending on whether you were the one destined to invent it, or whether it was supposed to be someone else later but you did it earlier, hence altering our destinies a little. Maybe pore pack will be extinct more quickly or something).

Example 2: If we travelled back in time and perhaps brought back a special idea to someone there (maybe we bring condoms back to 100 years ago), then the future of the moment from that point of time in history will be changed and felt then on. Perhaps it would mean that we will now cease to exist or something, and what we know of as the present will not be what is it. But because we are already going to be altered, we won’t know what it was supposed to be. Meaning that we don’t sit here everyday and experience the effects of changes in history. If it was indeed changed, we would feel as if it was only happening in that moment for once.

So why is it that it doesn’t seem often that Example 2 happens? For Example 1 – it’s almost really possible, because who can even say it isn’t? No one in the world has this tape of pre-destined happenings so we can’t say for sure how our actions now will change the future. Also, the other thing is that in our present moment, most of us would want to change how we will be tomorrow, so it makes more sense to make changes now to affect the future, rather than making the effort to change the past which might affect you negtively/postively today (you won’t even really be able to predict because you don’t know you are the outcome of which excel formula so if you change something in the past, the impacts might not be so easy to control).

This is a really long post because it’s something that’s been in my head for quite a bit (together with my idea of death and what that really is – will come in another post). I think that not being a scientist makes me more imaginative and who’s to say I’m wrong anyway. Haha maybe one day there’ll be Jamie’s Law – that will make up for that rubbish B in Physics during A Levels. Ha!

Will update my concept when I develop it further. Meanwhile, here’s most of what I think it is. Asking me questions might help me develop the concept further.

The Green Hornet is returning to the scene. Personally I am both a big fan of Seth Rogan and all his stuff from Superbad, 40 year old virgin, to Knocked up. There isn’t a role that Seth Rogan has played so far that I didn’t like.

But will this be a good role for Rogan to fill? Looking at Rogan’s history his roles have all been comedic. Will he be able to fill the shoes of previous actors. Then again the Green Hornet really lost popularity back in the days of radio tv shows, with the exception of a small spike of popularity during a tv sitcom back when Adam West was Batman. Batman was much more of a success then The Green Hornet so interests in keeping the show going was wavering. So perhaps Rogan can’t really damage what wasn’t there to begin with.

It wasn’t just the success of Batman that through pulled down the show’s ratings. Bruce Lee one of the best and most famous martial artists in history also wanted to leave the show in order to fulfill bigger dreams in a movie acting career. Which raises another question, is Jay Chou, the rumored actor to play Kato, up to the challenge. Bruce Lee set the bar so high that it is unknown if Chou will live up to those type of expectations.

Another popular actor in the film will be Cameron Diaz who will be the Viki Vale or Lois Lane to Rogan’s Green Hornet. Which makes me wonder why so many of DC’s superheros always seem to fall for reporters. It’s like they want to get caught and exploited to the world.

So to wrap it up I think The Green Hornet will turn out to be a great movie. I don’t expect it to be another Dark Knight, Warner Bros. set the bar really high with that one. But as long as it doesn’t end up like Catwoman with Haley Berry everything will be alright.

I’ve seen this name every where and really didn’t know the face.I mistaken him for being Chinese but he is very famous in China.Jay Chou is Taiwanese and is popular through out the  southeastern regions of Asia.You might remember him from 2006 Curse of the Golden Flower as Prince Jai.He will make another debut in American cinemas in 2010 The Green Horent as kato.Jay Chou has a list of things he has done since his presence in mainstream Asian pop culture that  even I didn’t realize.He is an actor,director and has his own book called Granduer de D Major. The book is his personal insight into his life,journey as an artist in Asia and his opinions on the music industry.Also on romantic relationships and a little methodology.I’m mostly focus on Jay’s unique music then his credit as an actor.Jay Chou first debut in 200o with his first album called Jay and really hasn’t slow down until 08 to focus more on his movies and television.Jay Chou’s music is a mixture of r&b,hip hop,pop,piano,classical,just about anything that is music minus the bullocks.So here is some stuff I’ve found floating around on YouTube.

Coming back to school (over two weeks ago, now) was kind of rough. We’d ended the previous term on such a good note, with the days after our Tuesday final full of tea ceremonies and movie parties. We watched “Secret,” a Taiwanese movie written by, directed by, and starring Jay Chou, who’s a pretty big deal over here. This video shows the piano duel, and the students are fantastic. Jay Chou is the new guy.

But coming back to school was not nearly as much fun as leaving. On day one, one of my classmates was struggling to grasp a question that translates to “Is it vacation anymore?” Laoshi brusquely asked him over and over. It is definitely not vacation anymore.

Pint-sized Persecution

Waves of waist-high children in uniforms washed around me on my walk from LiveABC to my MRT station a few days ago. I was mostly unnoticed, but one pig-tailed brat turned and saw me, shouting, “Ha! 外國了!” (“Foreign!”)

Not two days later, two girls spotted me in Junk Store #2, and I heard the taller one whisper, “Wow外國人.” (“Foreign person”) Under my raincoat I had on my stepping-out boots and textured tights for the salsa dancing event we’d just come from, but I didn’t expect them to follow me around the store.

Lali (who we met through Kyle) suggested responding with a “對阿, 台灣人,” (“That’s right, Taiwan person,”) to surprise the snotty ones.

Some of the young men here dress pretty fem, and their body and face shape add to the femininity. Some of the young women here dress in ways that make me blush. Lali pointed out that they’re fairly well covered on top, and so it doesn’t matter much that their shorts might be no longer than 4 inches.

I saw an interesting article about the top entertainers in Taiwan and  a general breakdown of what their earnings are from -some still have substantial CD earnings, but I don’t know how accurate the figures are.

Jay Chou, who’s made no.1, is one of my favourite songwriters from Asia.

Note that it’s in Taiwan dollars, not USD -half a bill’s a pretty high amount.

In last week’s NCT tutorial, some of my classmates presented on the topic of “The Future of Music”.

It’s not that the quality of music has gone down that led to the decrease in CD sales, it’s more like:
a) people are buying songs through online music stores (eg: iTunes)
b) people are downloadling songs illegally

Applying what i’ve learned about economics  in poly, the demand of CDs goes down, the supply of CDs also goes down. It might go down until eventually, there are no more CDs in the future. Afterall, distributing music online is cheaper than distributing them in hardcopy.

If that happens, it’ll be sad because i always like to collect hardcopies of my favourite things, be it albums, movies, posters, dramas. I get a sense of satisfaction through collecting all this stuff.  But when i look back, sometimes i really regret spending my hard-saved money on these CDs/VCDs/DVDs.

The most expensive VCDs i bought back when i was in secondary 2 was “The Rose”. There were 4 boxes in a set and each box costs $29.90 last time. So in total, i spent about $120 just on a Taiwanese drama. For my own sake of keeping track, i’ll list down all the dramas/movies I’ve bought. Of course, they’re all genuine ones.

Anyway, back to NCT’s context, i would rather by the CDs/VCDs/DVDs than buy the soft copy online. I like being able to see and touch my products, it makes it feels more personal, like “this CD is mine!” kind of thing. Also, the CDs usually comes with wonderful mini photo books inside. All the more i would want it in hardcopy instead of staring at pictures on my computer screen.

About live concerts in future, my classmates mentioned that there would be an increase in online live streaming concert. There are two things i like about this idea:
1) It’s cheap.
2) It’s convenient

One Jay Chou concert tickets can sell up to $140. And the concert tickets usually get sold out within 1 hour of release. Black market can raise the prices to as high as $500 a ticket. So for the poor and slower people like me, online concert would be an ideal alternative route.

But there’s one downside of it. The whole purpose of attending the concert is to see your favourite artiste live/in person/in reality and not just from your computer screen. And to also experience the loud booming music that exists to split your eardrums but you know you enjoy it. It’s the raw feeling of the stage that captures the audience in a live performance.

That’s why if given a choice, i will still go for the live concert over online concert. Though it’s almost impossible for me to watch an Arashi live concert, i might resort to online streaming concerts for Arashi.

Yep, that’s the rule.
