What really happened is a whole ‘nother story.

The Gamecocks were driving down the field, down 16-13, for what was going to be the game tying field goal which would have sent the game into overtime. Ellington caught the ball and was tackled at the 29 yard line with :02 left on the clock. The clock stops for first downs in college football which would have given the Gamecocks just enough time to run to the line of scrimmage, spike the ball, and leave themselves with :01 to kick a field goal that kicker Jay Wooten can make. Whether the Gamecocks would have finished the come from behind victory in overtime is obviously up for debate.

What is not up for debate is the officials, the SEC, and the NCAA for robbing South Carolina of this victory in an attempt to salvage the defending national champion Auburn Tiger’s season. No one in the media or sporting world gave Auburn any chance of topping the 6.5 season win total Las Vegas sportsbooks set for them at the beginning of the season. Then when the Tigers lost to Clemson the week before, many said they “won’t make a bowl game”. The ending to this game was a complete hose job.

Whether Coach Spurrier puts Connor Shaw under center or starts Stephen Garcia again, the South Carolina Gamecocks are still undefeated against college football teams but 0-1 against the referees.

I won’t go back in time and complain about the “BS no-call pass interference” at the end of last years game, however, the CBS crew had the game clock on display during the end and it clearly showed Ellington’s knee was down with :02 left to play, but no official wanted to work overtime that night!
