Ah, rieccovi e rieccomi!!! Dopo la triste parentesi dell’ultimo mese ho finalmente trovato una strada: ho di nuovo un lavoro nella telefonia (come agli esordi) e sto riprendendo in mano i miei disegni oltre a fare un esercizio sulle sceneggiature (grazie Alberto Ponticelli!!!). Un altro segno che le cose stanno ritornando alla normalità è il ritorno di Jay’s che si appresta a fare un piccolo salto con una serie di vignette molto interessanti e con un particolare protagonista! Vedrete…

Like many an Irish appellation, Tadhg can make your eyes cross and tongue tie up in knots.  Caoimhe and Aoife, Eoin and Diarmaid are all appealing choices, but the unfamiliar will not automatically say KEE va, EE fa, OH in and DEER mid.

Tadhg’s sound is actually quite straightforward.  He sounds like the first syllable of tiger – tieg.  County Kerry-born Tadhg Kennelly is among the best known bearers of the name.  He currently plays for the Australia Football League’s Sydney Swans.  As I listened to sports announcers discuss Kennelly’s feats, I couldn’t help think that any accent other than my bland American one lent Tadgh a bit more presence.

Speaking of challenges, you might hear Tadhg pronounced tayg or teeg, too.  Some of the confusion comes from various Anglicized versions of the name.  There’s Tighe, but also Teague – and while Tighe seems straightforward, Teague doesn’t seem like the same name – or to indicate the same vowel sounds.  (In an earlier era, Irish Tadhgs in the US became often became known as Tim.)

While Tadhg, Tighe and Teague are all no-shows in the US Top 1000, after some searching, I did find a YouTube video where a very much American mom introduces her son, Tadhg Thomas.

In Ireland, Tadhg is a Top 100 choice.  He appears in Irish myth as Tadg mac Nuadat, grandfather to Finn MacCool.  Several kings of Connacht wore the name from the ninth century through the eleventh.

While Tadhg fell out of use amongst the royalty, he can still be found in the historical record.   In the late 1500s/early 1600s, writer Tadhg Og Ó Cianáin chronicled political events.

Tadhg was a fitting name for a writer.  It means poet, and some have suggested that the meaning is broader – perhaps more akin to philosopher.

Like many an Irish appellation, the diminutive form is Tadhgán and you’ll come across surnames based on both versions.  This muddies the pronunciation more, because Tadhgán has inspired a fairly popular given name in the US – Teagan.

Today, Teagan is in use for both genders and seems poised to keep climbing.  In 2008, he ranked #657 on the boys’ side and #321 for girls.  While some parents might settle on Teagan as a nod to their Irish heritage, it seems likely to appeal to parents embracing modern names like Jayden or Peyton.

While Tadhg might require you to repeat “sounds like tiger, without the -er” more times that you imagine, he has some serious advantages:

• He fits with the emerging preference for single-syllable boys names;
• The pronunciation isn’t difficult – once you know;
• Unlike some short names, like Jay, that feel more like diminutives than formal given names, Tadhg sounds complete.

So if you’re seeking an authentic Irish heritage choice, and don’t mind spelling out your son’s name again (and again), this could make for an interesting option.

Can’t seem to shake this Jay-Z bug I have.  Everything I’ve tried has not shaken it. Has anyone else been having problems with trying to get away from the Blueprint 3? When he created Thisis50, the traffic was so huge, the views, feedback and all, like millions per view, people commenting on his songs, videos sayin how dope they are, and he really thought it was a huge ammount of people watching and rooting for 50

After TOS low sales, he still aint learned.I mean, Elephant in the sand was a great tape and over here, it had like 500 000 downloads in a matter of days,50 thinking the same response would be for the album.
But he was wrong man

Same with Buddens, each time he hosts one of his dumb ass Live streams, there are like tens of thousands watchers, each Joe Budden thread in SOhh are over 10 000 views and yet, dude sells 14 000 online.

50 Cents First week Sales Thread in Sohh is over 150 000 views, MJ Death was only 50 000 or something, and yet, sales are low…Thats Becoz 90% of those people come there for entertainment, not music.Those are not rap fans anymore, those are bored people that like this whole Ross Said That, 50 said that, Ross Sold That, 50 is Selling this thing.

i think soon rappers will start eliminating THisis and Twitter…I think 50 will actually delete his twitter account or Thisi50 in spite of low sales.

The only reason this is here is because we talked about all of this on the show. You wont hear this on the show but you can take a listen here!

This is what i like! Something I just discovered, that I didn’t think existed in Canada. New Jersey type screamo, all the way out in Victoria, BC. This three piece was around from 1995 to 1998. At the time the band was formed, Paul was still doing Benchwarmer, but not for much longer.

Their first release was a self titled 7″ on Slow to Burn Records in 1995 (I think this may also have been their demo, but I’m not sure). Next year they put out a split with The Republic of Freedom Fighters on Buddy System Records. In 1997, came their big break for out of Canada fans. They recorded a 10 song demo tape, which some songs would end up being released on their second 7″ “The Relationship Between a 1/4 Note and a 1/8 Note” on The Mountain Cooperative. I think the other songs were used for their split with Miracle of 86 (but I’m not sure when that came out), on City Lights Records.
The whole works was compiled into a discography CD in 2007 in Clue #2 Records. This compilation is really amazing. Great digipak with stickers and booklets, etc. I really suggest buying it, even if I posted it here. Totally worth it.

Last night I kinda had a breakdown in the sense that I finally got everything I was feeling about Jay off my chest, by talking to my other coworker/friend, Cris. I ended up crying a bit without really meaning to, and it wasn’t even directly about Jay at that point, but more about me just being so sick of being played.

I came to the conclusion (which I have to admit I’d kinda realized a while ago but I just didn’t want to really admit it to myself) that he simply doesn’t want to spend time with me the way I do him. We never hang out outside the office unless it’s with other people from the office. This weekend? He’s run off to home, again. What a little boy. Run home, little one.

I’ve decided to just end it. If he tries to kiss me or whatever in the future I’m going to brush him off and just tell him he’s had his chance and blew it (since you been gone…!). It’s been two months since things first started, and I think he was just much more interested before. I’m not going to confront him about anything because there isn’t anything to say (how pathetic would, “I liked you, but you blew it, and I just wanted to let you know whatever this thing was between us is now over” sound?? Um, no thanks!).

At this point in my life and where I am in my career, I’d rather either be totally single or just fall into a relationship with someone I really like and who really likes me back. I don’t want this middle ground bullshit with someone who doesn’t even seem to want to spend time with me. I’m so over it!

(Please don’t let me fall off the wagon…)

We all know Facebook, or atleast heard from it. You love it or you hate it. I am completly addicted to Facebook. Its the first thing I check in the morning, before I get out of bed, and its the last thing I see before I go to bed. My life consists of updating my status, writing on people’s wall, and replying to wall posts. Its probalely about 80% worth of my social network. Conclusion: I couldn’t live without it.

Recently I red an article on RealWire about a new version of the popular Facebook application: GetThemIn. This application consists of a virtual bar, where you can buy your “Facebook Friend” a real drink. The friend will receive a voucher code, and can pick up a drink at a local liquor store. At the moment this application is only available for the UK Facebook users.

Jay Feeney, Founder of GetThemIn explains: “Virtual gifts have proven to be hugely popular on Facebook and we’ve taken this one step further with the GetThemIn application. Personally, I am concerned about the ethical reasons behind this. Is it a smart thing to make a virtual Facebook bar, a real case senario? If you want to buy somebody a drink, why not just go to a bar, and actually meet the person and buy them a drink? Atlest then you are sure, the person is above 18. The whole point of buying somebody a drink, is to sociolise (in real life then).

Maybe in a few months, we can buy pets through Facebook. Who knows?

I was on Youtube and came across this rather amusing interview with Jay Kay of Jamiroquai talking about he’s music videos. The guy is a musical geneius and has some really inventive music videos which have stood the test of time.

“Great Expectations”

In terms of the great comedy battle of 2009, which continues to rage amongst shows both new and old, Modern Family is at a distinct disadvantage: with Parks and Recreation delivering some legitimately great comedy and Community doing a really compelling and confident meta-storyline, the simplicity of this show is a disadvantage in terms of being flashy. There comes a point where the hype surrounding the show creates greater expectations than the storylines themselves can live up to in terms of their premise, requiring viewers to appreciate the strong execution where originality isn’t overtly present.

“Great Expectations” is a solid episode of the show, featuring a number of fun loving gags and a couple of big guest stars, but nothing stands out as particularly stunning as compared to some of the other comedies. In this instance, I think there was enough nuance to each individual story to continue to prove how strong the writers understand these characters, but it nonetheless follows similar patterns to what we’ve seen in the past. I think it’s one of their stronger episodes due to a nice role reversal, but it’s not reaching as high as some of the other comedies are right now.

For me, this episode is about the little things more than it is about the guest stars. While Elizabeth Banks (playing Cameron and Mitchell’s barhopping friend Sal) and Edward Norton (playing the bass player/backup vocalist from Spandau Ballet) are both very funny and integrated well into the episode, the storylines they’re involved in really have very little to do with them. I thought the Cameron/Mitchell story was perhaps the episode’s least interesting, if only because it was so predictable: we’re shown that they’re having trouble getting out with Lily around, they make a night out of it with a friend, and discover that their friend is jealous of Lily and devolves into a petulant child. There’s nothing wrong with the storyline, and Banks sells the child-like reaction perfectly, but the storyline had absolutely no twists or turns or nuances to it – just a couple of fun moments (Mitchell refusing to allow her to hold her, Mitchell’s “I’m going in!” Re: new boobs), and strong performances all around.

I thought the other two storylines were simply more interesting conceptually. Jay’s Night, featuring Sloppy Jays and western movies, was the sort of storyline that was charming because of how great Ed O’Neill is and more importantly how you get small little running gags like Gloria’s tone deaf singing or Luke taking everything that Jay says as a sign that he’s going to die soon. Combine with the running battle between Jay and Haley, which nicely ties into what we know of Claire’s own childhood, and the conclusion with Dylan wanting to stick around for Jay’s Night, and the storyline just had a nice flow to it. It was never overly dramatic or overly broad (Jay squirting Manny like a dog was perhaps a BIT broad), staying within a simple comic mode and delivering on its promise.

And I thought the Claire/Phil storyline was the episode’s strongest, if not comically, then certainly in terms of the characters. Phil is still a bit too much like Michael Scott (the scene listing off the things he wants could have very easily been put into Steve Carell’s mouth without much in terms of change), but as with Michael it’s always good when he gets to be the smart one. He, unlike his wife, is capable of being romantic, so the anniversary becomes about Claire’s struggles rather than Phil’s. It’s a nice change of pace, as Julie Bowen is likeable even when she’s incapable of being romantic and Ty Burrell was great in interacting with (his good friend) Edward Norton as they struggle over whether the charade (which was a pretty ingenious comic device) could be continued. Like I say, the big laughs weren’t there, but the emotional payoff was solid and it kept Phil out of his usual tomfoolery role.

Nothing complex, but a funny and enjoyable episode – no need to place it relative to anything else to enjoy that.

Cultural Observations

• Alex gets all of the best one-liners amongst the grandchildren, and here she both played into Haley’s vanity and created Luke’s trauma over her grandfather’s death. Hoping for another episode for her soon.
• I was thinking of how Edward Norton was going to do “funny” in this show’s style, and it’s clear now that I should have thought of “accent” right away. Always funny!
• Spandau Ballet, of course, is an actual band, although I didn’t entirely realize this until I heard him humming the melody of “True” and I realized I recognized it (but would never have known the band name). I did enjoy the joke the show got out of this, as the reason Izzy Lafontaine refused to continue the performance was that the song was called “True” and the story was false.
• Wait, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark was also a real band? Oh, The 80s.

It has lots of meaning to Hottests and myself.

Take your time to read it. Its really enjoyable. If you’ve seen most shows or appearance on T.V. of him you would be like OH YEAH! I remember that! So true!
