The Matches

Disc two:

OVW Heavyweight Title: The Machine (w/Queen Victoria) vs. Leviathan (Batista)

Machine works over the shoulder, but throws dust in the face of the referee. Leviathan hits a choke-slam, but the ref, from the back, is late in getting there. Revolution runs down. Leviathan recuperates and goes for the Demon-bomb, but Victoria gets in the ring in and hits a low-blow. The ref was late in, so it is a two. Leviathan then hits the spear for the win in 7:53.

Thoughts: This was a decent showing from Batista. The match was a bit straight forward at times, but was okay for what it was. I love Cornette’s commentating; if ROH was smart they would put him on the announce team. He really has an ability of knowing how to make the wrestlers look good. **

Kane vs. Batista

This was the first PPV match Batista had Kane starts it up, and  clotheslines him over, In the ring, Batista spears Kane and then hits a powerslam for 2. Batista hits a botchbomb and nearly breaks Kane’s neck. Kane hits a flying clothesline. Then, Batista gives Kane a spine-buster, but it only gets two. Kane tosses Flair in, allowing Batista to sneak up, boot Kane in the gut, and hit the Batista bomb to win in 6:38.

Thoughts: This is as bad as you expect. The fans were really getting angry at Batista, because how green he was; Kane was no better, either, and looked very sloppy. In a nut-shell, this was a complete utter mess. If I saw this match live, I would have thought Batista would have became World Heavy Weight unemployed, rather than Champion. DUD

Batista (w/Ric Flair) vs. Shawn Michaels

Batista catches up with Shawn’s speed, while HBK tried to use it to his advantage. Batista then waits for get up and nails him with a clothesline. Shawn goes for his comeback; then hits a flying forearm and does his kick up thing, but Batista grabs him for the double choke-slam. Shawn fights out of the move and hits the top rope elbow. Shawn goes for Sweet Chin Music, but Batista catches him and delivers a spine-buster. Batista calls for the Batista Bomb, but Shawn slips out of it and hits SCM for the win at 12:21.

Thoughts: No HBK match is bad, but this is as bad as one could get. Batista looked misplaced for the whole match. His timing and pacing were awful. He just did moves for the sake of doing them, with no meaning behind him. Terrible match wrestled by Batista. *¾

World Tag Team Titles: Table Match: Batista & Ric Flair vs. The Dudley Boyz

The Dudleyz attack them.  Batista misses a punch and hurts his own shoulder. Bubba gets a table and slides it into Batista. The Dudleys set up the table and snatch Flair. They’re about to suplex him through it, but Batista throws the table. The table gets set up in the corner. Flair chops Bubba. Bubba comes back with the Elbow. Batista chokes D-Von with his foot. D-Von hits Flair with an airborne clothesline. Batista hits Bubba with a charge. Flair goes up, but Bubba slams him off. Coach comes in, and saves Flair from going through the table. Batista hits a Batistabomb through the table at 4:20.

Thoughts: Short, sloppy, and botched. The only structure in the match was because of Flair. Bad match. ½*

Disc Three:

Royal Rumble (01/30/05).

Batista is #28, and comes in and eliminates off the bat. Jericho jumps at Batista, but Batista catches him and tosses him over. Christian is #29 and he goes after Cena. Rey hits Kane with the 619. Cena tosses Kane over with the Fireman’s carry. Ric Flair is #30. Batista spinebusters Coach and Flair eliminates him. Flair throws Christian into a Batista spinebuster. Flair and Batista team up to throw that guy who won in 2004. Flair tries to be the dirtiest player in the game, but Batista catches him, but Flair denies it. Edge hits a spear on Dave. Edge goes for a spear on Rey, but Rey counters. Edge tosses Rey to the apron and Edge spears him to the floor. Cena tosses Edge out. Cena picks Batista up in the FU, but can’t get him over the top rope. Batista counters into the Batista bomb. Cena holds on. They fall over the top, landing at the same time. Each brand ref thinks their wrestler won. Vince McMahon restarts the match. Batista blocks the FU and then hits the spinebuster on Cena.Batista throws Cena over the top, and is heading to Wrestlemania.

Thoughts: Not the best Rumbles, but easily up there. I liked everything up to the end. I found it very rushed, and asinine. They should have just made it seem like it was an epic showdown of two evenly match contenders, rather than the ridiculous ending (which caused Vince to tear both his quads.). This was the start of the Batista era. ***½

World Heavyweight Title: Triple H (w/Ric Flair) vs. Batista (04/03/05).

A stiff tie-up; no one gets the advantage. They do it again, and Batista pushes him backwards. Triple H tries a shoulder-block but runs into Batista. HHH goes for it again, and Batista knocks him down. HHH goes for the Pedigree, but Batista shoves him and then press slams him. Batista gives him a backdrop. Triple H ducks a clothesline and delivers a knee that sends Dave to the floor. Hunter hits Batista with an elbow as Batista trying to get back in the ring. Later on, H goes for a Pedigree, but Batista backdrops HHH. Batista catches HHH with a sideslam for only a two. Batista catches up with HHH and slams his face into the ringsteps. In the ring, Batista starts pounding on HHH. Batista delivers clothesline. Flair distracts Batista while Hunter attempts to hit him with a chair, but the Ref blocks it. Flair runs into a spinebuster with the title in his hand. Hunter nails Batista with the title behind the ref for only a two. Hunter charges but its right into a spinebuster. Batista goes for the Dave Bomb, but Hunter counters and hits a low blow. HHH goes for the Pedigree, but Batista powers out and drops him with a Misawa’s finisher. Batista hits the Dave Bomb and gets the pinfall.

Thoughts: Very boring in the start, but picked up slowly throughout the match. They tried adding drama by using the bag-of-tricks booking, but it just felt substandard for a WM main event match. Batista was very charismatic in this match, which helped hide his flaws. Better days for Batista still to come. ** ½

World Title, Hell in the Cell: Batista vs. Triple H (w/Ric Flair — 06/26/05)

Batista was mega over at this point. In the ring, Batista clotheslines him and whips HHH to the cell wall. Hunter counters the whip and sends Batista into the ringsteps. Batista attempts to get back in the ring, but HHH knocks him down. HHH gets a chain and hits Batista in the mid-section. HHH chokes Batista. Batista snaps and counters it. Batista starts hitting HHH with the chain with great vengeance and furious anger. Batista goes for the Dave Bomb, but Hunter counters with a backdrop. Hunter nails Batista with his friend, but it only gets two. He attempts again, but this time Batista goes low on HHH. Batista picks up the sledgehammer and charges, but clever HHH finds the chain and drills Batista before Batista hits him. Batista throws Hunter over the top.  In the ring, Batista throws HHH into the ring steps he set up Batista goes for the Dave Bomb, but HHH goes low and then hits the Pedigree, but only gets a two. HHH goes for another one, but this time on the steps. Batista counters the move, and hits a spinebuster. Batista goes for a Dave bomb, but HHH grabs the Sledgehammer on the way up. HHH goes to hit him, but runs out of time as Batista hits the Batista bomb and gets the three.

Thoughts: Started off very similar to their WM match because of it being methodically paced, but rapidly enhanced as the match went on. The finish gave HHH an “out” but also made it seem like he deserved a rematch clause. In my opinion, Hell in the Cell is supposed to end the feud by giving one of the wrestlers a clean victory to conclude the feud. Despite its flaws, it still was a very good match with good amounts of realism and hostility. Nice work.  ***½

World Heavyweight Title: No Holds Barred: Batista vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (08/21/05)

JBL meets Batista and they start brawling. JBL grabs the chair, but Batista spears him through the crowd blockade. JBL recovers and comes back with a clothesline and starts pounding him with the belt. Batista takes the belt away from him and drills JBL with it. JBL blocks a charge and hits the lariat for a two count. JBL brings the ringsteps into the match and goes for a powerbomb on them, but Batista backdrops him and gives him the Batista Bomb. He picks JBL up and gives him a powerbomb on the steps for the pinfall.

Thoughts: Much better than there Great American Bash match. WWE obviously knew that they needed to keep this one short and sweet in order for it to be watch-able. While it only lasted 9 minutes and was short they did tell a good enough story of Batista getting his revenge on JBL. Not as bad as you would think. **

World Heavyweight Title: Batista vs. Eddie Guerrero (No Mercy – 10/09/05).

Eddie takes Batista down, but Batista pops up and powers him. Eddie throws the chair down, but Batista grabs him and yells at him. Eddie whiplashes Dave’s throat on the top rope and hits the frogsplash for only a two. Later on, Eddie rolls through the Dave Bomb, but Batista blocks his sunset flip and pulls him up by the neck. Batista hits his vintage spinebuster, but only gets two. Batista tries an elbowdrop, but the ultimate opportunist gets his knees up. Eddie goes for the traditional frogsplash, but Batista gets out of the way. Eddie runs into the spinebuster, which gets the pin.

Thoughts: The more experience Eddie Gurrero helped carry Batista throughout the match Even though this wasn’t the high-flying/athletic side of Eddie, he told a believable story that served the purpose of the story behind this match.

The problems with the match were that; it was way too slow at times and never really picked up at any stages of the match; Batista was becoming very stale and all his matches virtually felt the same; and the finish was very anticlimactic because of Batista not having to use a finishing move to defeat Eddie and beating him with his “set up” move. Sadly, this was Eddie’s last “big” match. **½

World Heavyweight Title: King Booker (w/Queen Sharmell) vs. Batista (11/26/06)

Batista attacks Booker T before he takes his robe off (real babyface). Batista goes for the Dave bomb early, but Booker rolls to the floor.. Batista counters a neck-snap on the ropes and delivers one of his one. Booker then works on Dave’s ribs. Batista comes back with a Jackhammer; then a Bossman slam for a two count. They brawl some more. Batista boots Booker to the floor and nails a flying shoulderblock (that Cole never saw before) for two. Booker hits him with a Bookend, but it only gets a two count. Batista counters the Scissors Kick and hits the Dave Bomb, but Booker T gets his right hand on the bottom rope. Sharmell slides the title belt to Booker and gets on the apron. Booker T goes to hit Dave with the belt, but misses. Dave kicks Booker in the gut and steals the title from Booker. Wham! Batista hits Booker T with the title and gets enough for the pin.

Thoughts: Meh. These two wrestling styles never clicked together. This had some poor timing and a couple slightly blown spots. Everything just felt like it was delayed. The finish came weird to me, also. A babyface such as Batista (a big man face) shouldn’t have to cheat against someone as Booker T. Maybe it happened that way because Batista was scared to get messed up by Booker T, again. Bad match. *

World Heavyweight Title: Batista vs. King Booker (w/Queen Sharmell) vs. Fit Finlay (12/01/06).

Big Dave beats on both the heels. Back from commercial, Booker is firmly in control of Batista. Finlay pulls Batista to the apron and boots him right in the head. Finlay slowly takes apart Dave. Batista sets him on top and delivers a muscle buster. Batista and Booker slug it out as Hornswoggle runs through the ring to distract the ref. Finlay uses the disruption to slip in and destroy Batista’s knee with the shillelagh for only two. Booker charges right into the spinebuster. Batista goes for a Dave Bomb on Finlay, but he counters by drilling the bad knee. Dave no sells the knee, and then hits the Big David Bomb on Finlay for the three.

Thoughts: Finlay added some well missing structure in the previous Booker-Batista matches. The match itself was a typical WWE style heels vs. face match. Heel dominates most of the match and attempts to get some heat; then the face does there comeback and overcomes the odds (usually by no selling the offense from the heel, which would make most of the match filler). Thanks for Finlay, though, this was a decent TV match. **1/2

World Heavyweight Title: Batista vs. The Undertaker (04/01/07).

This match had bad news written all over it. Batista was dogging most of his matches up to this point, and people didn’t think Undertaker would have been able to carry Dave to a decent WM match. Batista goes for a Dave Bomb, but Taker smashes him into the turnbuckle. Batista hits a belly-to-belly suplex on Taker. Batista is smashing Taker’s head in with the punches on top of the turnbuckle, but Taker counters to the Last Ride for a two. Taker goes for another Last Ride, but Batista counters and hits a spear. Batista goes for the Dave bomb and hits hit, but only get another two count. Dave is pissed. Batista goes for another Lametista bomb, but Taker shoves him into the turnbuckle, and then hits the tombstone piledriver for the win.

Thoughts: Just a tad overrated, but still very good. It was really surprising where this match got put on the card, because of all the build it had. Plenty of sources and dirtsheets were hearing rumors of Batista breaking the streak, and sadly I believe that the card placement ruined the unpredictability. Batista seemed very motivated for once in his career and it finally seemed like he cared about something other than a paycheck. What people predicted to be one of the worst WM main events all time, turned into a very good midcard match. ***½

World Heavyweight Title, Steel Cage: Edge vs. Batista (06/03/07).

Edge tries to dash out early. Batista drags him back in. Edge hits the edge-o-matic. Batista delivers a superplex, but instead of trying to escape, he goes up and dives off the top rope. Batista gets fired after Edge beat on him. Batista goes for the Dave bomb, but Edge grabs the cage and tries to escape. Edge hits a low blow. Batista goes the other way and tries to escape, but Edge drops to the floor and wins.

Thoughts: The psychology was present in the match. Batista played the all mighty face who does everything by the book, while Edge was the complete opposite. I do like proper characterization in my matches, but there characters, in the match, really restricted them from doing what they are capable of. **¼

World Heavyweight Title, Undertaker vs. Batista (10/03/2007)

There was a ref scandal before the match. The ref nominations for the match were: Jbl, Foley, and AUSTIN. While JBL was the only person who was on the show before this, everyone still voted for Austin.  What they should have done was to make JBL pull a George Bush and some how “change” the voting. Instead, they just had Austin be the ref and let him beat up Foley and JBL. Batista hits him with punches on the top, but Undertaker counters into the last ride for only 2 .Batista gets up and hits the spinebuster. Batista is puzzled and sells it well. Batisa hits the Batista bomb, but only gets another two. Batista is now furious. Undertaker staggers himself back up. Batista hits another Batista bomb and gets the three count.

Thoughts: They went all out in this match. Very good wrestling match, with both workers not holding back. I do believe JBL would have made a better ref than Austin, because JBL would have added in some heat and drama into it. Batista, as a shocker, gets the clean win over the Deadman. Great match from the big guys. ***¾

Triple H, Batista & Ric Flair vs. Randy Orton, Edge & Umaga (12/10/07).

This was the 15 anniversary show of Raw. On the show, Evolution was supposed to have a reunion. Everyone joined the reunion except Randy Orton (since he was the only heel). Orton then names another stable he was apart of and that is Rated-RKO. Edge comes out, and so does Umaga for no reason, and then they have a match. They do some basic tag stuff. Batista gets a hot tag from Flair, but Umaga  hits the ref and causes the DQ. Rated-RKO runs away. Evolution beats up Umaga just for the sake.

Thoughts: Nothing to rate. Everything in this segment/match was pointless. I don’t even know why this is on the DVD. Batista wasn’t even the main center of attention in any of this. N/R

John Cena vs. Batista (08/17/08).

They are dead even in the feeling out process. Crowd is either booing Cena or Batista(because there “cool).Batista gets a figure-four leglock and the woo chants occur. Cena goes for a FU but Batista elbows out and then Cena in the STFU. Batista makes it to the ropes. Cena goes for the FU, but Batista gets out and applies a weird looking choke. He lets go and then hits the spear but only gets two Cena counters a powerslam and hits the FU and sells the injuries by making a delayed cover. They dish out some blows. Cena wins and comes off for a top rope leg drop, but Batista catches him in the air and hits the Dave Bomb, but only get a two! Batista can’t believe it. Batista hits another Batista bomb and ends the match.

Thoughts: They added in the epic feeling they were looking for by using good power moves, counters, and near-falls. I would give this a great rating, if it wasn’t for the center of the match. The center had bunch of filler. It felt like they ran out of ideas and moves to do. Still a good match. *** ¼

Batista vs. Randy Orton (w/Manu & Cody Rhodes — 12/14/08).
Orton controls most of the match with his sluggish offense. Batista and gives him a DDT. Batista counters the RKO to an unprettier for two. Batista nails him in the corner for punches, and when Randy tries to counter, he accidentally finds himself getting Powerbombed.

Thoughts: Orton’s heat on Batista was so slow and went no where fast. The only thing that could have saved it was, either, good selling or a good comeback, but neither took place because Batista did his average comeback to win the match. Nothing was really that bad from a wrestling standpoint. No botches or anything, but how hard is it to botch when the match is slower than Nick Dinsmore’s character? *3/4

Going Home: This DVD takes through Dave’s life as a punk kid growing up-raised by a single mother, then becoming a bodybuilder and “saving his life” Then, getting into the wresting business from his debuting name: Leviathan; then all the way to becoming one of the most talked about wrestlers today.

This DVD isn’t just about Batista. The DVD also has a good moral behind it, and that is never to give up at what you believe in.  DON’T STOP BELIEVING!

The only match I could say that belongs on there was his Last Man Standing match with Undertaker, but every other important or good match of Batista’s is on there. I actually enjoyed most of the matches on here. Batista is one of those wrestlers who can be on his game sometimes, and completely stink  up the place another night.  On this DVD, you will mostly see Batista on his game; therefor, I recommend this DVD.

Todo parece indicar que el rumor surgido en el  Wrestling Observer hace unos meses, que indicaba que el ex-campeón WWE, JBL, estaría en pláticas con TNA no resulto cierto, se informa que recientemente TNA se acercó a John Bradshaw Layfield, quien confirmo que definitivamente que no esta interesado en participar.

John Layfield “JBL” ya habia desmentido dichos   rumores que habian salido en internet de que estaría en conversaciones con TNA Wrestling para salir de su retiro y regresar al ring con la empresa de Dixie Carter. Recordemos que  JBL “renunció” a WWE luego de su curiosa derrota ante Rey Mysterio en WrestleMania 25

I mentioned in my Hell in the Cell post that I was going to talk about the title situation, so here I am. My issue isn’t how often the major titles change hands, but also the fact that despite all the changes really only the same people hold it and that one long title run would be more interesting than several short ones. That and the fact that the lesser titles never seem to change hands or at least not enough. Let’s look back at 2009 and the title situation for a moment, shall we?

The WWE title
Going into 2009, Jeff Hardy was the champion, having won the title at Armageddon, he quickly dropped the title at the first PPV of the year, The Royal Rumble to Edge. Edge dropped the title the next month at No Way Out to Triple H, who defended it successfully at Wrestlemania XXV, but dropped it to Randy Orton at Backlash. Orton successfully defended the title at Judgement Day, but dropped it to Batista at Extreme Rules. Batista’s championship reign was short lived and he vacated it the next night and then Randy Orton picked it up a week later and successfully defended it at The Bash, Night of Champions and Summerslam, before dropping it to John Cena at Breaking Point and then getting it back at Hell in A Cell. Whew, that’s a little exhausting. Eleven PPVs and seven title changes (though one of those came on free TV) in ten months. Definitely a little exhausting.

The World Heavy-Weight Championship
Going into 2009, John Cena was the champ. To give him credit, he’d held it since Survivor Series in November and didn’t drop it until No Way Out, where he dropped it to Edge and then got it back at Wrestlemania XXV, only to lose it again Backlash. Edge successfully defended the title at Judgment Day against Jeff Hardy, but dropped it to him at Extreme Rules, only to have CM Punk cash in Money in the Bank. Punk defended the title at The Bash, dropped it at Night of Champions to Hardy, but reclaimed it at Summerslam and then defended it at Breaking Point, only to drop it to the Undertaker at Hell in a Cell. That’s even more exhausting. Again eleven PPVS and eight title changes in ten months, that’s worse than the WWE title.

The major titles seems to change hands at the drop of a hat, but also to the same people. In eleven PPVs and twenty-three title matches (counting the one on the commercial-free Raw where Orton regained the championship) there have been fifteen men who have vied for the title. Not too shabby, I guess, but I’m going to count out Vadlamir Kozlov, Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho, Mike Knox, and Kane who’s only title shots came in an Elimination Chamber. So that leaves us with ten and now I’m going to count out the Big Show, since he didn’t get a singles match for the title and because he didn’t actually win. So we’re down to nine and I think we can all agree JBL doesn’t really count, either, since his match was part of a bad storyline and it was his only major title match of the year.

So we’re down to eight men, who all held the title at least once over the last year and all participated in a minimum of two PPV matches. Pretty slim pickings when you realize you’re talking about two titles, basically it’s been a four man field for each title. How exciting, especially since Jeff Hardy has now left the company and we’re down to seven men. I think we can all agree the WWE needs some new blood. I mean who wants to just keep seeing the same combinations over and over?

First of all, I think Orton is a good person to hold the WWE title and that he should hold it until at least the Royal Rumble and maybe defend it against some new blood. I’d love to see MVP get a title match or even Jack Swagger or Kofi Kingston or The Miz. I don’t know if they’re ready to win it, but I’d like to see them compete. If we want Main Eventers, I’d be happy to see Shawn Michaels or the Big Show get a legitimate shot, but I think both of them will be tied up with tag team action for a while.

On Smackdown, I’d like to see Punk get the title and carry it to early next year, because I think he, like Orton, is a great heel champion. Again, there are some talented young guys who could do well from a title shot–such as John Morrison or Dolph Ziggler. I’d rather not see Batista go for it again, but only because his reigns seem so short. Chris Jericho would be a good foil for Punk, though he’s currently busy with the tag team event. I’d just like to see fresh blood.

I don’t think the trouble is too many change overs, but too few competitors. Make the reigns longer and worth more and let more people challenge for them and I think the WWE would become more interesting to watch. Either that, or drop one of the titles and have everyone fight over it–that would certainly make things more interesting.

Jbl GTO4000 4 Channel Amplifier Review

Im using The JblGTO 4000 amp in my car Its running in bridged mode with a 12″ 1000W Fli sub and two 375W Fli 6×9s, and using the 4×50W head unit to power the two 5″ 180Ws in the front.

Its Relativley easy to install, The instructions didnt quite match up to the Amp but you get the jist, The connections and bits that come with it are good quality So teh connections are good, I just used a £10 wiring kit off ebay for the wiring up of it and its great.

It has good adjustablity for the low and high pass. The gain (volume if you like). And it has both of these for front and Rear RCA inputs. I am only using the rear inputs for my sub and 6×9s. The sound it produces is excelent with no distortion even at very hgih levels. The bass is ground shaking but soft and responsive.

The Amp looks great with the clear top, and sits nicley under my passenger seat, and can be secured down with 4 screws.

Overall a great amp producing top quality sound and Easy to install, al for a good price.

I promised a few posts about the events of this summer and then decided, that the 10 or so I had originally planned on was overly optimistic, but I might manage one or two. This is one of them. I really wanted to comment on the reunion of DX and their program with Legacy.

First, DX was one of those stables of my youth, even when I didn’t really watch the WWE, I was aware of DX. This was partially due to the influence of a high school boyfriend who was a huge DX fan (this was long before The Man, who says to tell you that in high school he preferred the NWO). Don’t remember a lot else about that guy, but I do remember the DX thing. And I developed a fondness for them that lasted through the years when I wasn’t really that into wrestling. I’ve always been a Triple H fan girl (and did watch during the McMahon-Helmsley days, or at least the beginning), which I guess adds into the DX loving thing.

That said, even though I predicted a reunion months ago, I was wary about it. Don’t get me wrong, Triple H and Shawn Michaels have great chemistry and DX is something special, but… But the Attitude Era was ten years ago and while Triple H and Shawn Michaels have brought DX together since then, it’s never been quite the same, so I wasn’t sure how I felt about a reunited DX this time around. Especially… Hasn’t DX always about fighting the system and pissing off the McMahons, how does that work now that the world knows Triple H is Vince’s son-in-law??? And aren’t they a little old to be degenerates?

The first skit made me nervous, since it was silly. Triple H was funny (I always find him the funnier of the two) at times, but the whole thing really dragged at times and the concept was stupid. Why did Shawn Michaels decide to leave the company and why did he have to get a bad job at all, what about all that money he won from JBL??? I enjoy these little skits, but only when they make sense and the way that one went down made me start thinking that DX was something best left in the past. But, I was wrong, everything else about the reunion has been handled beautifully. The way Legacy ruined their reunion, the video clips, the fan reaction, the promos, everything. There’s enough nostalgia, for us to remember how great DX was, but also the feeling of that was then and this is now and this is Legacy’s time.

This is the best way to do this program, to have it be a clash between the old and the new. DX are the legends, Legacy the up and comers and they’re bound to clash. Props to Triple H and Shawn Michaels for putting DiBiase and Rhodes over so well. Legacy looks like legitimate competition for DX and I like that they have Legacy respect what DX represents, while wanting to make it clear it’s a new time and a new era.

I’ve loved this program. Great skits, solid promos and amazing matches and I think tonight’s Hell in a Cell match is going to be the crowning glory of the program. DX has done their job, Legacy’s made it and it was done in the best way possible. Legacy got a solid push and the fans got one last ride with DX, one last chance to recapture of the glory of yesterday while basking in the glory of tomorrow. Definitely a victory for everyone.

I can not believe how great this sounds,my wife stopped by a Goodwill store and saw this, so she called me on the cellphone and asked if I wanted it for the whopping price of 19.99. I now own this and have it in my living room and it rocks for the price you will never beat the deal. “I’ve had it for years, no problems, great entry level home theater sub”

I’ve owned this sub for over 3 years now and I really enjoy it. At first I had it behind a sofa and I really didn’t get the full effect. Then I moved it to under a side table and it changed my movie viewing. I started enjoying those large explosions in space!

While this sub does not have an “perfect” range, it sure is easy on the wallet when you really have to have that .1 on your 5.1 system. My sub is attached to a Belkin power strip (that I never turn off) and it auto-detects when my reciever needs it on. Works great, but “chirps” a little to tell you it turned on. I don’t mind it. My unit never had the “low hum” that other people have talked about. Wonderful for a shoestring.

“Adds extra personality to my classical music listening”

I have coupled a JBL PB10 to my Cambridge Microworks (which produce decent bass down to 45-40Hz) and my listening pleasure has increase twofold. They produce good bass, as advertised: down to 30(27)hz. Placement of the unit is critical for appreciating them fully. I have owned various Hi-Fi speakers (including Bose 901, Tannoy, Whaferdale) and I can say that the JBL is an excelent buy -and complement -that I’m enjoing a lot.

“Bumbs”

Best bump for you buck. Don’t bother with the 10″ unless space is an issue

“JBL Venue Series SUB12 500-Watt Subwoofer”

This is a very high quality subwoofer and matches my other 4 JBL tower speakers in my surround sound home theater set-up perfectly. It will really pump out the low base and movie sound-effects driven by my Denon A/V receiver.

It is necessary, as with all high-power subwoofers, to adjust the crossover and volume settings carefully to avoid boomy side-effects and to have the A/V receiver set up properly. The JBL’s construction is first-rate and of very high quality. The physics of producing low frequencies at loud volume without considerable distortion demands this fairly large box, so take that into consideration when planning your home theater system’s speaker layout.

There may be “better”, according to some A/V enthusiasts, subwoofers available but all are at least 2-3 times the cost of the JBL. For the price, the JBL’s quality construction and overall performance is very hard to beat. I just hope JBL continues to keep the quality of its speakers this high.

“Great Buy!”

We got this JBL to replace an umderperforming 150-watt (yeah, right) Sony SA-WM500. We have a 7.1 setup, and right away the entire home theatre sounded great! We’d actually like to get another one for our bedroom setup.

My SO was always complaining about missing dialogue with the Sony Center speaker… that stopped as soon as this baby was hooked up. LFEs sound deep without being boomy. The Sony SA-WM500 made many LFEs sound like flatulence.

When we upgrade our living-room HD in a few months, I think we’ll go with an all-JBL home-theater setup.

“Loved it while it lasted”

While it worked this is an awesome sub. I had it for a little over 4 years, and was very pleased with the sound quality and deep rich bass. It has all the controls you could ask for, and fills a large room easily. It is a large unit so if space is a concern, look elsewhere.

Had I written this review a year ago, I would have nothing but praise for this unit. Sadly, over the last year I started experiencing issues with it. It would randomly turn itself on and off, as if the sensing unit had failed. Then it started making random pops. Now, while it powers on, it produces no sound at all. There are no local service centers, and JBL customer support is almost non existent. I paid $250 for this product new. It appears it will cost me close to that to have it serviced.

I guess it’s time to look for a new sub

“The E250P will die on you!”

Great subwoofer WHILE IT LASTS! I had a PB12, same subwoofer except it was a down-firing design. Exact same circuit board! I mostly used it for TV audio. It died 3 months after the 1 year warranty was up. I found out on the internet that was typical, and JBL would not repair them! It was a flawed design!

So I contacted the the Harman Consumer Group (JBL) and they sold me a replacement E250P for about $250. This one lasted almost 2 years! It has the exact same circuit board as the PB12, and the exact same fried componentsI Good luck with your JBL piece of junk!

“All the bass none (well not none) of the wires”

This JBL subwoofer is just as crisp and bassy as the wired/powered version. I did quite a bit of research on the two and found that that little extra money was worth it to me.

It was very easy to setup and was great to put up because I could put it in different places in the room to find where it suited me best. I prefer the sub in back of the room instead of the front. So not having to run those wires was worth it.

The wireless works great, I have not had a single issue with the wireless interfering with my wireless internet or wireless rear speakers.

“Very good Sub - but BIG”

The JBL Balboa Sub is a very nice product. It is obviously well built, and it’s clearly not an entry-level subwoofer. You’ll notice the quality of the build, and (I was, anyhow) be impressed with the cooling fins for the 100 watt amp on the back of the sub. Cool. This obviously ain’t no toy – it’s the REAL thing. You’ll be pleased to tell you friends it’s a JBL. The bass coming from the sub is smooth and airy – not boomy – at all. Like any subwoofer, of course, it’s going to require some fiddling around before you get the balance between “Godzilla’s in town” and “Is this thing working?”. However, once that’s done the sound is very satisfying – the bass is much smoother than either the Bose subwoofer or the Infinity that preceeded it in my living room. I use it mostly for music, but it’ll do those movie explosions quite realistically.

The only bad thing to say is that this thing is BIG. Make sure that you see one before you buy on-line. I didn’t and now my wife grumbles that it’s like having a hotel refrigerator in the living room. The old line about subwoofers being invisible in your room doesn’t apply here. You’re GOING to notice this unit, both for the sound and for the size. If you don’t mind that, you’ll going to be glad you chose this unit

I was more than pleased with this subwoofer.

It really improved the sound. Bass is terrific with no boominess.

Works great with my 5.1 receiver and gives amazing effects in movies

that you can feel..again with no boominess or clipping.

I researched and asked around and this seemed the best deal for the money. For cheap money this will work well in a medium size room or

better.

The only problem is this subwoofer is so good I’ve begun thinking I

could get better front speakers to match the sonic quality.

“Bass Bang 4 the Buck not a true 600 watts ;-(“

Get’s the job done as long as you crank up the wattage(on your system).Very accurate bass,but not a true 600 watts.The price should be around $300.00 @ most.After playing a variety of music & movies,I’m very satisfied.It does have impact for explosions,drums etc.which is smooth as silk, never detracting from the source.It never vibrates wastefully but can shake the walls.I tried a 2 Sub set-up with My other JBL & WoW!Timing is right on the money.It holds it’s own with the best of them(Sunfire/Velodyne/Polk/Klipsch etc.)For the best sound,tweak the dials to match your speakers(entire system),adjust your receivers settings & Walla,it will sing sweet lows that You can feel.The JBL L8400 does NOT muddle or distort BUT opens up your music(Audio)to better clarity so you hear more voice/instruments/delicate passages etc. the way it was meant to be heard & felt.Enjoy the JBL L8400.I hope this review has helped other’s to make the decision to buy this JBL Quality Subwoofer.It will bring a smile to Your face & Your ears will stand @ attention.Best 2 ALL in the Internet World.

“Sounds great, until the amplifier burns out”

I’ve owned the JBL sub 10 venue series subwoofer for about one year. Absolutely love it, and great value for the price. BUT today listening at a very low volume, the amplifier burned out. This part is $212 to replace, as the whole amplifier unit is sold together, not JUST the digital amplifier part, which is what burned out. Word of advice: keep your receipt!

“Loud and sloppy – you get what you pay for”

I think this is a worth while sub for the price. It has lots of power and the bass *will* make your windows vibrate. I characterize it as loud and sloppy – which is similar to other subs in this price range.

I would have given this device three stars, except I have had a few issues with the two I have owned. The speaker ripped or came apart on the first model I purchased from Bestbuy. The replacement lasted for a year or so before it’s electronics actually fried and smoked, filling my apartment with the acrid smell of burning electronics. This happened while it was in sleep mode and not in use…?

If you are looking for an inexpensive and loud sub, I still would not pass this one up. However the 8″ Polk Audio sub I now use seems to have a much tighter, less flabby sound, with all the power.

“Adds the WOW factor to your audio!”

Subwoofers not only add pounding low end to your movies and audio, they accomplish other things. For example, they take the low bass load off your regular speakers and make the treble sound better. In the 70s, JBL speakers were used as studio monitors in many recording studios and are used for many pro uses, like PAs, today. I’ve always liked the crisp, clean sound of JBLs so, after reading some reviews, decided on the Venue Sub10 to compliment my JBL 2600 bookshelf speakers. The price was right ($150) and it wasn’t too honking for my apartment.

The Sub10 has the clean, classy look of JBL audio products, clear instructions and was easy to install: just plug it into the subwoofer output on my NAD surround sound receiver (there are ways to connect the sub to any system) and plug in the ‘wall wart.’ You don’t even need to remember to turn it off since it has an auto on/off feature. Controls include level, crossover and phase. By adjusting them you can dial in the sound to your tastes and eardrums. Once you have a sub you can never go back to not having one!

“Great home theater sub”

The bass is perfect. It has a built in cross over and many inputs. It automatically sleeps when the music is turned low or off and there is absolutely no hum or interference. This matches all of the speakers in the set and my cherry furniture very well. Although the speaker is 600W, you have plenty of adjustment and the speakers will not interrupt a quiet dinner with excess loudness. However, if you crank this baby up, you neighbors will dread when you play the 1812 Overture. The nice thing about this sub is that it is mostly rumble and not a whole lot of ‘punch’. It will shake the whole floor without sounding like you’re in a rock concert. These speakers are definitely a step up.
