So glad I didn’t see or hear of VV Brown for the first time because of her “Crying Blood” track, because I would’ve easily dismissed her as Janelle Monae’s predecessing parody.

Instead, I caught wind of the UK singer by watching her perform Kid Cudi’s Crookers remix of “Day N’ Nite” in a dorm room, MacBook on lap and all, equipped with a mini-megaphone, and instrumentally backed by three seemingly harmless dudes. Of course, this was on YouTube and not in person, but…

Then, I happened upon this:

And was won over because, while it starts off as an unimpressive bouncy acoustic, it explodes with a chorus catchy enough for lovers scorned. Meaning everyone.

I do need to talk to you.  Have been wondering what is the way.
You looked so apprehensive, which I’ve decided to take as a huge compliment.
I maybe 54 but I still have a je ne sais quoi even despite an otherwise meager French vocabulary.
 
So, you should not be apprehensive, but there are still things to learn that defy even the
great educational attainments of golf (in a male cosmos).
 
So, I’m working the problem.  I will be ingenious and devise something.  And meanwhile
you should teach a Y chromosome to talk.

I know, I can’t get enough of this luscious, sensuous creature. Angelina Jolie embodies pure animal instinct. Watching her is like watching X-rated movies with an R-allowance. R for raw. She exudes a certain “je ne sais quoi” about her, the forbidden fruit that everyone wants to taste.

Her natural way of embracing each situation is what makes her incredibly sexy. She flows with ease and appears to mold into each character that she is required to portray. What other woman would so easily adapt to the horse nibbling on her chest and make it look so hot? It has a pinch of innocence to it, which is intriguing. Surely brings out the animal in almost every living breathing man, and woman…

Dernier jour, Le (2004)

There was a certain “je ne sais quoi” about this movie that I loved. The story was about an eighteen year old Simon (the stunning Gaspard Ulliel) who happens to meet a girl on a train (Mélanie Laurent) on his way back home for the holidays. She invites himself to his home, which at first turned out okay, but the longer she stays there, the more frustrated Simon becomes. Emotions escalate when Simon’s friend (Thibault Vinçon) enters the picture because Laurent starts to fall for him. I think this film was deceptively simple. Even though the dialogue was minimal, the film had a plethora of interesting imagery and stiffled emotions that kept bubbling over the surface. The prime example of this was Ulliel’s character. Simon was such a sensitive character and I felt like a lot of things could tip him to the breaking point. However, he managed to find inner strength time and time again to deal with another painful reality and so I was able to sympathize for him. Even though he was sad and bordeline desperate for affection, we rarely saw him cry, which I think made him that much more lovable. What did not work for me as well, however, was the storyline regarding his mother (Nicole Garcia) and her much younger lover (Bruno Todeschini). I didn’t quite see the connection between that story and Simon’s plight. If the commonality was about loneliness and the suffocation they felt, I think that’s too superficial. If this film had been longer to further explore that bond, I think this could have been a much more powerful picture. Indeed, this was a slow-moving film but I found it to be rewarding because it was thoughtful with its approach. This is farthest from a Hollywood film which typically has defined conventions of a genre. “Le derniere jour” was more like an artistic take on what it was like to be in someone’s shoes who felt like everybody was slowly drifting away.

I must admit, I felt the sting. This chick is officially on my radar.

To a woman, the highest compliment you can pay her is to tell her she is different from any other woman you’ve ever met… and you’re not sure why.

A woman wants to be recognised as special. ‘Special’ is not the same as accomplished, clever, beautiful or talented. Even if she is all those things, when you call her ‘special’ you pay her the highest compliment.

When I say ‘special’ I mean she is unlike any other woman on the face of the earth, and you’re not sure why that is, but it will never be challenged, or questioned and above all beaten by any other woman you know, have met in the past or will meet in the future.

Her name / lineage will be a special combination of words / people that will free him from a curse he’s lived under forever.

In this way, the woman gets to be of the deepest most profound effect on the man, beyond his ability to leave her, and beyond her need to actually do anything to create it.
