4 Tourist In Mecca Die From The Swine Flu Virus

The H1N1 Swine Flu virus knows no borders,has no boundaries, and has absolutely no respect for religious or cultural traditions.

This year at the annual Hajj to Mecca, Four foreign pilgrims have died of swine flu, the Saudi Health Ministry announced on Saturday.

The Saudi Arabia Health Ministry said none of the four foreign victims had been vaccinated against the H1N1 virus, as has been recommended by The Health Ministry.

An official statement released by the ministry said all had underlying health problems, including cancer and respiratory illness, AFP news agency reported.

Three of the victims died in Medina and one in Mecca.

The BBC is reporting that….up to three million Muslims from around the world take part in the holy pilgrimage every year, but health officials have expressed fears that it could provide a breeding ground for the virus.

Authorities had tried to prepare for any outbreaks by installing thermal cameras at airports and sea terminals, deploying 15,000 additional health workers and ensuring hundreds of extra beds were available.

The Hajj (Arabic: حج‎ Ḥaǧǧ) is a pilgrimage to Mecca. It is currently the largest annual pilgrimage in the world,^[1] and is the fifth pillar of Islam, a moral obligation that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so. The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to Allah (God).^[2] The pilgrimage occurs from the 7th to 13th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar. The Health Minister has reported that there are 16 other people that have been diagnosed with swine flu and four remain in hospital in “critical condition”.

He added 12 others had recovered following treatment.

The Saudi government has recommended the elderly, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases and children skip the Hajj this year.

The Saudi government has said all pilgrims need a certificate of vaccination before they can apply for a visa.

This is real people, and this disease is spreading worldwide,at a rapid pace.

I encourage everyone to get a H1N1 swine flu shot as soon as you can.The reports of any side effects are exaggerated, and will cause millions of people to perish from the lack of the vaccine.

Any paranoia surrounding any alledged complications from the shot are totally unsubstantiated, and if those people out there insist on not receiving the vaccine, then we as a society should only expect more mounting mass casualties from the swine flu, as exhibited this weekend, unfortunately in Mecca.

If it can happen in Mecca, it can happen anywhere.

Please everyone, wash your hands, and go get the shot.

Who am I? What is this I that I perceive? The most essential thing in the universe or a pure illusion? Is it as solid as a metal beam or as evanescent as a candle in the wind?

Reflect, Grasshopper. Reflect on yourself, because your self is mere reflection. This shining I is a mere mirror, and even the mirror is not there when you – with your eye, your seeing part, which you may mistake for your I – look for it.

You look in the mirror, and you say, “I see.” And indeed I C spells the source of I: in Old English, I was ic, said sometimes as “eek” and sometimes as “each” – the two sides of the self, one of fear, withdrawing, the other of distribution, sharing, outgoing. It was sometimes after written ich. Make this capital: ICH. In a serif font, the formal way, an I is like a steel beam (an I-beam, in fact), reminiscent of an H on its side. Make it more like an H on its side and you have 工, the Chinese character for gong, “work.” But Chinese for “I” is wo – the self is only half of work, for action is the rest. The character for wo, however, is a slashing pattern of seven strokes, 我, half of which is a spear and the other half of which is said to be a hand, or grain, or another spear: fighting, action.

The self is the ready hand: the letter I began as an arm and hand, Phoenecian yod, which lost first the hand, then the elbow and wrist, and soon became the smallest of letters, a mere stroke, iota, ι, the famed jot of jot and tittle, the small wisp of Hebrew yod, י. You see the strong hand, but when you follow it, it vanishes into smoke, it is the merest small thing.

But I was not I then. In Hebrew, when you speak of yourself, you do not say an I, you say ani. In Greek, like English an Indo-European language, “I” the speaking first person was – is – ego, written in Greek letters εγο; in Latin, it is ego written first EGO (as we ever write our selves in our own minds). These little letters we love, e g o i etc., came about later, as scribes shrank them in brisk writing: the I became a little single stroke, at risk of being taken for one half of an n, one third of an m, so they added a dot, like a finger, a flag… a flame. We are a candle burning down. No, we are not: we are only the flame. We consume the wax, but the matter of the wax passes in other forms into the air; when it is burnt, however, the flame – which was only ever an ongoing reaction, not a discrete object – is gone. Ay. This is how we say I. This is not how we always said it. Our long vowels shifted half a millennium ago. Before that, the ich lost the fricative at the end and we said it “ee”: simply the narrowest opening at the tip of the tongue. Tighten the tongue a little more as you say it, and whisper as you do so, and you have German ich. But when “ah” became “ey” and “ey” became “ee” we needed this sound of I to be more distinctive, and so we swooped into it, starting at “ah” and narrowing down, like a hand swinging through the air and pointing at a spot.

In other languages it widens from the spot. In Scandinavian languages, you have jeg – the j a glide, like our y – or similar words. In Slavic languages, you have ja and similar words. In Romance languages, you have Spanish yo, Portuguese eu, Italian io, French je – this last has a fricative, but it was once a glide, too, as its first letter has descended from none other than I. Thereby hangs a tale: what we see now as j was first an ornamental i with a tail; when the glide sound came from the vowel, it was written the same way at first, but when we decided we needed a separate letter for the glide – or for the fricative or affricate it had become – we kept the j for that. If we needed another version still, we used y. And sometimes, in English, where the i seemed too small for the vowel, we wrote y instead. See that y: like an i and a j joined. In Dutch, words once written with y – such as the river Y – are now written with ij (and the river is het IJ). The self plain and the self fancy, extended: together you have branching, division, or you have dowsing, divination, depending on your direction. Widening or narrowing: your self is your choice. Which shall you do?

We aggrandized our little i. When we stopped saying ich we were left with a jot and a dot. It was not big enough; the I does not want to pass unnoticed. So it gained an infusion of capital. In other languages, politeness may dictate the upper case for the formal other person: Sie in German, U in Dutch (which, informally, says je for “you”). Honour may dictate it for royalty and deity: Your Grace, His grace. But we, we who see ourselves as the axis of all, we plant a flagpole at our north pole of the self: I. How we forget that when all rotates around a point, the point around which is rotates has no size, no dimension. It is a perfect nothing. Without it the action could not be happening, but it is only there as a result and part of the action. It itself does not move; it is still, there. And when the action stops it is not still there.

I is not the most common word in English; it sits, according to wordcount.org, at 11th place – ay, ay, 11. The most common pronoun, in eighth place, is it. The most frequent actual noun is in 66th place, after so many function words, pronouns, auxiliaries, and staple verbs. It is what the I exists in: time.

What does the I stand for? among other things, I stands for the heaviest element commonly used by living organisms, an element rare in many places but soluble in water and so concentrated in seawater: iodine. It stains and it stings, but we need it. Without it our thyroids underdevelop, with bad effect; iodine deficiency is the leading cause of preventable mental retardation.

But our little candle, the small i, takes us to the root of this all. And if our self is defined in opposition – the spear against spear, the ego that opposes, the reversal seen in reflection, the inevitable entropy of the candle – then our self is a negative one. And the root of negative one is i: an imaginary number, not countable or accountable in the real world, but still usable for describing and calculating things in our lives. The square root of 1 is 1; the square root of –1 is i. One less than nothing, and reduced by one dimension.

This is your I, grasshopper: a useful illusion, a mere effect of and part of action. You see a line between yourself and the world, but I, the line, is all there is, and even that is nothing real.

Arashi's 10th Anniversary

i’m about 3 weeks late, i know. But nevertheless… HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY, ARASHI~~~ \(^o^)/

i just finished watching the 2+ hours Special variety show, the finale of NTV’s Arashi week, the Arashi unimaginable, imaginative experiments + special TV live. What can I say, they’re just really impressive. I admire them a lot, and they totally deserve their success. Their group chemistry, each person’s contribution to the group, feed each members’ being and the group’s. It’s no wonder, their success, the status they’ve achieved thru years of hard work and staying grounded despite their fame.

I can only hope that 8 can follow their senpais’ footsteps and that 5 years from now, Kanjani 8 will have a celebration for their 10th year that is as wonderful, if not even more so, as Arashi’s. If 5 years from now they have amazing actresses like Yomemura Ryoko-san as their fan, i’ll die a happy person.

and I missed it! What the hell was I doing last November 18? Yeah, right, I was busy reminding Shangri-la Mactan to forward their freakin’ Pro-Forma Statement!

Anyway, back to topic. Operation #deadfisheyes was done to sort-of celebrate the release of Yamapi’s long-awaited solo single, Loveless. Deadfisheyes was used together with the hashtag because at times Pi has that same look in his pictures. Also, it makes the topic more interesting and makes peeps in Twitter go WTF?

So because #deadfisheyes did better than expected, people are now doing it again on the 24th for Akanishi Jin. It’s gonna be #eggplant. I’m not really a Jin fan but because he’s from JE, I’m gonna be in for this craziness. (since I love Twitter anyway.)

However, the huge thing (for me and for Arashi fans) is happening on the 26th. It’s Ohno’s aka Riida’s birthday! Yay, Otanjoubi Omedetou. For his birthday, it’s gonna be #tsuribaka and #wemakestorm. I personally like the last hashtag a lot. I like that phrase, especially since AMNOS said it in their song Attack It! and I think it is apt for them.

Anyway, here’s the schedule:

4-Month Old Baby Girl Dies From H1N1 Swine Flu Virus...Too Young To Be Vaccinted

A four-month old infant girl is the latest casualty to succumb to the deadly H1N1 Swine flu virus that is spreading faster than a wildfire across the nation.

The flu pandemic is on the rise and has been allowed to kill at a rate that has gone unchecked, due to the lack of and the fear of taking the Swine flu vaccination.The vaccine has been doled out to a select few qualifying groups of minor children,health workers, and people who supervise and come in to contact with groups of children.

In this latest case, doctors suspect that, since infants under the age of 6 months can not take the current vaccine due to health risk, and the fact that her parents were not allowed to be vaccinated since they are not in a rationing qualifying group, they were all at risk to be infected by the virus.

It is being reported in the media that both of the deceased baby girls siblings had received the H1N1 vaccinations, as their parents value and respect the vaccination program.

The infant had no known underlying medical conditions, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, and none of the family members, vaccinated or not, tested positive for the virus, so it is still a mystery as to how the infant contracted the disease. They also report that the child had no underlying medical conditions, that has been known to make the virus even more deadly, and has been cited as the cause of dying from the disease.

I suspect that someone kissed the child, or hugged her, as people tend to do with babies, and that would be hard to track, and most Americans do not wash their hands after using the bathroom or sneezing in their hands,which only helps to spread the disease.

“If a child that age — up to 5 years old — gets a fever, shows symptoms, the parents should seek medical care as soon as possible because they can go down the tubes really fast,” County public health officer Wilma Wooten said.

Doctors at the Rady children’s Hospital in San Diego say that this case is unusual because the child exhibited no signs of the flu. She only had a little bit of a cough, but no fever or running nose for about four days.

On the fourth day the mom put the child down to sleep, and 45 minutes in to the babies nap, the mom discovered the child had stopped breathing.

She was rushed to Paradise Valley Hospital in south San Diego and was resuscitated, then flown to Rady’s children’s Hospital, where she died 24 hours later.

Dr. John Bradley of Rady’s Children Hospital stated that…We now know that H1N1 probably had something to do with setting up the baby for not breathing”…

To date, there have been 33 deaths of San Diego County residents linked to the H1N1 influenza and four deaths of non-residents, according to the HHSA. The number of people hospitalized with the virus locally stands at 617!!!

There is only enough vaccines to help 13% of the population, but each of the county’s where the infant died, six public health centers and one immunization clinic have each received between 20 and 60 additional doses of injectable H1N1 vaccine, according to the HHSA.

Those vaccines will be given to pregnant women which is a high risk group that is given priority due the rationing of the vaccinations due to a production shortage.

I am also afraid that the paranoia associated with the fear of the side effects of the vaccination will only help to spread the disease even quicker.I personally know some associates of mine that refuse to be inoculated due to their holistic beliefs, and some people reject it out of pure ignorance.

The problem with all of that is that Americans continue to have deplorable personal hygiene. I have witnessed some who think it is funny to sneeze and cough in the face of some unsuspecting citizen, in a ‘Jackass” inspired joke, and these are the same guys that do not bother to wash their hands after using the restroom.

I would rather risk the side effects of the H1N1 vaccine, than risk having to rely upon the general public to wash their hand,..or for that matter to wash their bodies at all. I know the latter is more of a risk, and I refuse to gamble with my health.

Those with underlying medical conditions experiencing influenza-like symptoms should contact their doctor immediately, according to the Health and Human Services Agency .

County health officials again encouraged people to stay away from work or school if they have influenza-like symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.

Please practice safe and sane pristine personal hygiene…our lives depend on our cleanliness!!!

Sunt just your ordinary Joe pe care il poti intalni prin capitala acestei tari. Indigenul clasic de bucuresti innebunit dupa iesiri, cluburi, restaurante etc.. Viata mea dezordonata a pornit cam prin 1998 cand ai mei erau deja divortati si eu faceam doar ce ma taia capul. Ce m-a taiat capul la vremea aia a fost numai distractie si scoala mai putina ( nu m-am oprit nici acum). Nu o sa va intereseze unde lucrez, din ce parinti provin, la ce liceu am fost, ce facultate am terminat asa ca e destul despre mine. Sunt doar un tip haios cu un succes enorm la femei. Ce cauzeaza acest succes? sa fie aspectul fizic? sa fie banii? sa fie vrajeala? sa fie sexul? sa fie popularitate? NU. Am cate putin din toate astea dar cu astea doar atragi la prima privire, iti trebuie mult mai mult ca sa o faci sa stea acolo langa tine. Asta e problema multor barbati pt ca nu inteleg ca noi avem niste nevoi absolut banale pe langa ele, noua nu ne trebuie mai mult de 3-4 lucruri ca sa fim multumiti, in schimb ele au nevoie de inca 5 pagini de deziderate. De aici rezulta faptul ca ea are puterea si trebuie doar sa stie cum sa profite de slabiciunea noastra. Nu uitati baieti..slabiciunea noastra e puterea lor, nu va bateti joc de ele pt ca oricare din ele poate daca stie si vrea sa va puna cu botul p labe definitiv. Am considerat ca e o activitate mult mai interesanta decat sa alerg o minge pe teren si m-a ajutat f mult. Dupa am crescut dar tot printre hiene am decis sa stau. Maturizarea mea a inceput cand toate fetele cu care umblam erau mai mari decat mine si din asta am invatat f multe. Nu o sa va interese o statistica imbecila dar stiu sigur ca o sa intrebati: “ma dar cu cate ai fost tu de ne inveti pe noi”…nu pot sa va raspund decat atat..suficiente pt a vorbi despre asta si prea putine pt a intelege macar 50% din aceasta fiinta interesanta. Cam atat o sa las in acest post despre mine si o sa va las sa ma descoperiti prin povestiri, citate, ganduri, concluzii, deductii etc.

Youth Ambassadors

A embaixada dos Estados Unidos criou o programa Jovens Embaixadores (Youth Ambassadors – YA), junto a setores públicos e privados dos EUA. O programa visa beneficiar alunos destaques de redes públicas de sua comunidade com uma viagem de 3 semanas aos EUA.

Como pré-requisitos o candidato deve ter entre 15 e 18 anos(no período da viagem), Ser bom na escrita e na oralidade da língua inglesa, ser aluno no ensino médio da rede pública, não ser favorável sócio economicamente, ter boas notas, ter perfil de liderança e estar em um programa social não remunerado em sua comunidade por pelo menos em um ano.

Vou relatar um pouco da minha experiência com o programa:

Pessoalmente, acredito que o programa tenha uma ótima iniciativa(Ainda que seja uma lavagem cerebral para jovens superdotados), tentei participar do programa por 3 anos, em meu primeiro ano eu não podia por causa da idade, ao segundo fui desclassifica por causa da minha renda(embora a pessoa que havia ido tinha o dobro de minha renda), e no terceiro ano tentei pela última vez, tinham tentado novamente me desclassificar por minha renda mas consegui arrumar(o que não tinha nenhum problema), então fui para a etapa regional, tive o cuidado de estudar meus concorrentes, e todos só tinham o inglês de escola pública, o que me deixou mais a vontade pois tenho 2 anos de inglês, durante uma entrevista todos se enrolaram para falar inglês, percebi no instante que a concorrência era muito pequena, só achei que um menino teria a capacidade de me passar, mesmo assim estava confiante. Posteriormente descobri que havia fica em segundo lugar na regional, e que havia passado era uma menina do CEM de Palmas, do segunda ano, só com inglês da escola, sem boa oralidade, e sem nenhuma característica de liderança, mas ela tinha muito QI(QUEM INDICA, o que é muito comum em palmas), e quem tem muito QI em palmas ganha muitas coisas, estou espera do relatório do porque fui desclassificado há 3 meses.

Bom se você preenche os pré-requisitos, eu recomendo tentar participar, mas sempre com o olho aberto, pois a recompensa vale a pena.

Its Yamada Ryosuke. No? Ohh it’s Nakayama Yuma.

I have this envy+jealousy thing over those ‘kids’ younger than me who successfully made their debut but when I saw Chinen and Yamada in VS Arashi, Yuma in Koishite Akuma n Yuto in a Shonen Club show, I started to have some interest in them. I’m one of their fan now anyway =P

I’ve always thought that its going to be Yamada. You know, the ‘next big thing’ thing? Go youtube him and you’ll get tons of vids of him especially when you come across his concert performance. Its sexy I can tell. And he dances so beautifully and flawlessly and confidently! Have you guys watch his Hidarime Tantei Eye? A short drama where he acted along Yokoyama Yu and Ishihara Satomi (ooohhh love her! ><) and I can say, his acting is good! Kawaii-ly done. I especially love his face expression in it, its so real >_< So when I read the post about Yuma in livejournal, honestly speaking I was shocked since I’ve always have the image of Yamada standing along the same line as KimuTaku, Takki and Pi; maybe? I know there was Hikaru Genji and Matchy and all but I’m not too familiar with them so yeah, Yamada fits right into my head.

Some of the fan says that they should really take Arashi as an example; slowly take their steps and maturely prepare themselves to achieve of what they are today and I couldn’t agree more. Come on… How many years have Yuma really involved in the industry? How many dramas? How many singles? When Johnny’s debut his Jr. way too early for those kids, pushing Yuma to get through this as if a fast lane was prepared to him won’t get him to the top easily and many of us thinks that he won’t stay for long if it really happens. I obviously didn’t ‘approve’ of their appearance in Kouhaku; you guys knew about it right? Arashi deserves it but NYC with BIS? Don’t think so~

Its not that I hate Yuma or anything but when things like these happen (is it true that NEWS have less appearance because of highlighting Yuma too much?), it is just so not fair and sometime it’s kinda… Ridiculous?

Lets see whats gonna happen, kore kara.
