Bonus Footage: I was trying to find a clip of what I thought was Jean Grae for like two years. I heard this girl rapping on interludes for 9th Wonder’s 2007 Dream Merchant II. The only female emcee associated with him, or so I thought at the time, was Jean Grae so I just assumed it was her. In the process of looking for this clip I learned that it was not Jean Grae. It was in fact a female emcee named Rapsody. You learn something new everyday. Now that I’ve found some time to post again, here is some stuff you should consider watching/hearing/reading during this week:

Maybe they aren’t the best duo ever, but their live performances come packed with such delivery and energy that it’s hard not to be tempted to give them that spot.

I don’t know what the hell happened in this video, but I like it. It’s dark and creepy, combining perfectly with the music of Fever Ray, but at the same time it’s beautiful and so well produced…quality in the darkest places I guess.

New Dizzee Rascal’s album reviewed at Pitchfork. Very complete review, but I still need to hear this one.

Mos, Black Thought and Eminem spitting to an old school beat. Can it get better than this? Watch the rest of the freestyles with other rappers here.

Wale, John Mayer and Mark Ronson collaborating on a track…I’m not really into Wale, like Kid Cudi I think he’s more hype than anything and doesn’t bring nothing new to the game, but the song is really good to chill, nice production indeed. Listen/ download here.
By the way, the guy has a video with Lady Gaga and a song with Jean Grae. Seems the boy Wale is nice with the ladies ahah, check the cameos on the video .

..West coast rapper MURS has taken it upon himself to give a synopsis of why there is a lack of female MC’s (FEMCEES) in Hip-Hop..and specifically within the Rock The Bells Tour. Now, I find myself to be pretty level headed about these things and it’s clearly an opinion, but since this subject hits home for me and nails in directly with my research, I wanted to expand…

Peep what MURS had to say about the ABSENCE of females on this year’s Rock The Bells Tour..

..Here’s my take…having watched that, I do appreciate MURS’ honesty when it comes to the Hip-Hop game and the conditions that women may be subjected to as well in accordance with their association. Life is tough and being in a male dominated field can be a little tougher, but to think that Rock The Bells didn’t even have one FEMCEE on the show is just tragic…

The overall argument is that MISOGYNY plays such a huge role in the music that women are often chastised for even stepping foot in the ring and that [we] as we women are often faced with a conundrum of sorts for either  ’shaking ass’ to someone’s music that totally disregards the female’s image or [we] as women are totally against all of the music and don’t even give it chance..meaning it’s immediately shut-DOWN before the first 8 bars are done..

…Therefore, unfortunately it moves a small group of [us=women] into a padded room where we are forced to choose one or the other..but instead end up chilling on the fence..now there are some wack-ass FEMCEEs who I won’t even mention, but there are also women in the game who have shown resiliency and have the lyrical power of an OX along with an overwhelming finesse of a surgeon working on a heart patient. Pioneers in the game like: MC Lyte, Queen Latifah and Monie Love who worked tirelessly to pave the way for younger ones to rise..

…And now, most notably, if the roll call would continue to persist I would include the likes of:Lauryn Hill(please come back!), Jean Grae, Psalm One, Medusa, Rhapsody(Kooley High) and even Lil’ Kim and Foxy Brown…

..Though the content ranges for some of these, it shows that the female rappers in Hip-Hop are just about as different as the men are…for each one of these before-mentioned, I bet that you could pick a male rapper that would be comparable in style, lyrical banter and even poise…so, to close, even though MURS was moving to make a valid point on the “missing Female MC” I believe that she’s truly not missing..I just think that she’s on her grind like the rest of us. She is making her musical strides and moving to incorporate a place for herself-and quite possibly is gathering a camp of her own FEMCEES to start their own tour…but on the same token I’d like to see who Rock The Bells would pick and why..and hopefully it’s not someone wack because then they’d be clowned forever in my book…

Olubowale Folarin, known as Wale, is an emerging rapper out of D.C. His flows are unique and he’s really impressed me over the past year. His mixtape “A mixtape about nothing” first caught my attention. Then this spring he killed it on his mixtape “Back to the feature” with songs like New Soul featuring Yael Naim.

As I said yesterday, I’m already up and at work (have been for an hour and a half), so I figured I’d get a jump on today’s tune while I have a little bit of downtime.  It’s raining in the Bay, and there have been some pretty incredible displays of lightning on and off since I woke up at 4am.  I’m hoping this isn’t a bad omen for the upcoming day of college football.  My Trojans take on perhaps their toughest match-up of the year at Ohio State later this afternoon, and you know the Too Old Crew will be at the crib in full force enjoying the action in Hi-Def.  I’ve selected a great song for you today from one of my favorite female hip-hop artists.  This woman has an amazing way with worlds and some pretty dope beats to back them up.  Hopefully this tune will help me get pumped for a Trojan victory out at the horse shoe.  Today’s jam: Jean Grae – Keep Livin.  Fight On….

In Episode #11, Eternia provides a scathing critique of the “R.I.P. to All Female Emcees” media hype that has recently surfaced. She builds with the legendary MC Lyte & Jean Grae, as all 3 ladies shut down the ‘where are all the female emcees?’ rhetoric that has run rampant. The episode also introduces two other emcees killing the game: True Daley & Nemiss, who murk the stage… and happen to be female. If Ya (claimed) Ya Don’t Know… Now Ya Know.

In the upcoming months, eternia will release steady video & audio leaks leading up to the highly anticipated release of eternia & MoSS’s debut album, “AT LAST”. The latest installment of the Eternia and MoSS’s RTR series. I have to say being in attendance of the show the footage came from, it’s a little strange to still hear that people think the female emcee or femcees are non existent. When they’re clearly alive and making good music. The line up was crazy with Eternia, Jean Grae, Kallae Allday, Nemiss, True Daley, and it was hosted by MC Lyte.
With the internet being an instrumental in getting stuff out to people these days you may want to do a little digging you seriously would be happy that you did.

Miss Jean Grae made a great vid for ‘My Story’, as far as I can remember she is going to stop rapping .  But then again everybody announces once or twice in their career that they’ll stop, so I’m not really believing it anymore.
