Last night I went to the Breath Carolina show, with supporting acts; Cash Cash, and Stephen Jerzak.

Last night I went to the Breath Carolina show, with supporting acts; Cash Cash, and Stephen Jerzak. The show was good, except that there were major tech problems during both the Stephen Jerzak and Cash Cash shows, and so they cut their sets short. Jerzak kind of came off rude towards the tech guys, but the sound was hurting his ears so I can see his point. Cash Cash were also very angry about the technical problems and announced to the crowd that they would be holding an acoustic performance outside the venue after Breath Carolinas set. Unfortunately the people that I was with did not want to stay that long, and so I wasn’t able to see it.

This show wasn’t different from the previous shows that I’ve gone to, in the sense that the young scene kids were all over the place and completely obnoxious. We decided not to be in the crowd of people, for the simple reason that it was crazy. We spent most of the night sitting on the benches enjoying the music and people watching. We noticed that so many attractive guys work on the tour as tech guys and selling merch. There were two other bands on the tour, but honestly I can not remember there names, but they had some of the most attractive guys on tour with them. My friends and I prime objectives of the night were to talk to Stephen Jerzak. This ultimately was a fail because he has gotten quite the following since he was on The Summer To Remember Tour with the Scene Aesthetic just a few months ago. We did however talk to him when my friend Lauren wanted to go and check out the merch, and my friend Lydia awkwardly asked him for a picture.

I never realized how awkward it is asking band guys for pictures until last night when I wanted to get a picture with Alex,the keyboardist from Cash Cash. After seeing all of the girls kind of ’stalking’ them, and following them around the venue to get a picture with them, I didn’t want to come off like that. Fortunately my friend Lauren knew that I wasn’t trying to look like a creep so we just walked over and asked him for a picture, which was still a little awkward, but not that bad. I then told him that I thought their set was really good even though they had to stop, and then we talked for a few minutes and he told me to stay after for the acoustic show. Like I said before we unfortunately couldn’t, but it was nice to actually talk to him like a person and for it not seem weird and awkward. while Breathe Carolina performed we decided to just sit and chill on the benches because there were so many people in the crowd, and during this time did some people watching again, and saw how many people came up to Alex to ask him to sign things and get pictures. I think the difference from making that kind of situation awkward and not. If you go up to someone just trying to get a picture and you show no interest in them as a person, you come off really awkward and then the situation becomes really uncomfortable and weird, but if you go up to them and you show some interest in them and you want to get a picture as well, they have no problem talking to you. Some artists need that breath of fresh air from crazy fans and just want to talk to people normally, and not like they are idolized by them.

Overall the night was quite the success. My friends and I ended up leaving the show and standing out in the cold to catch two buses for about 25 minutes, and spent the rest of the night warming up in starbucks.

You’re probably familiar with the story of David and Goliath; the epic story of size doesn

You’re probably familiar with the story of David and Goliath; the epic story of size doesn’t matter. Goliath, a Philistine giant some nine feet tall, taunted Israelites day and night until eventually David, a young shepherd boy, had enough. However, did you know that the story has its own place in classical music? In the early Romantic period, the term “Philistine” was a term most commonly used in music, but was also used in the other arts as well. Just like in the Biblical story, the Romantic’s “Philistines” were the bad guys; they were the ones that degraded art to mere entertainment or flashy showmanship. To understand this, you have to know something about the Romantic’s philosophy of music. The Romantics believed music to be the highest of art forms and the one most capable of expressing the deepest and most inner thoughts of man. Jean Paul, an early Romantic writer, said this about music:

“One day the guardian genius of all who possess strong sensibility addressed Jupiter thus: ‘Father divine! bestow on thy poor human creatures a language more expressive than any they now possess; for they have only words signifying how they suffer, how they enjoy, and how they love.’ ‘Have I not given them tears?’ replied the deity; ‘tears of pleasure, of pain, and the softer ones that flow from the tender passion?’ The genius answered: ‘O god of men! tears do not sufficiently speak the overflowings of the heart; give, I thee supplicate, to man a language, that can more powerfully paint the languishing and impassioned wishes of a susceptible soul, the recollections so delightful of infancy, the soft dreams of youth, and the hopes of another life which mature age indulges, while contemplating the last rays of the sun as they sink in the ocean; give them, father of all! a new language of the heart.’ At this moment the harmonies of the spheres announced to Jupiter the approach of the Muse of Song. To her the god immediately made a sign and thus uttered his behests: ‘Descend to earth, O Muse, and teach mankind thy language.’ And the Muse of Song descended to earth, taught us her accents, and from that time, the heart of man has been able to speak.”

Music, even among the practitioners of the other arts, was held in the highest regard; a noble art form not to be taken lightly. The “Philistine,” then, was anyone who degraded music to something less than its noble purpose. In essence, they were the ones who sold their souls for their desire to be adored by the public. They sought recognition of men and by doing so, degraded their art. The “Philistine” could be either performer or composer.

Robert Schumann, in his own unique way of fighting the “Philistines,” created a fictitious society called the “Davidites.” His famous characters of Florestan and Eusebius, which he used often in his critical writings, were members of this society. Furthermore, the Davidsblündertanze was a set of piano pieces he composed to exhibit the high quality and introspective nature that classical music ought to possess.

Like every battle of good vs. evil, that between the “Philistines” and the “Davidites” continues on in the modern world of, not only classical music, but music in general. There are always those who betray their art for the glory of the limelight. You just have to ask yourself: which one are you?

Let’s be real…at the end of the day we eat as a necessity. I must admit I’m a fan

Let’s be real…at the end of the day we eat as a necessity.

I must admit I’m a fan of Hell’s Kitchen and Top Chef. I love to see the drive and the creativity but are we really that critical about food? I’d like to add that I’m a good cook. I was taught to cook and bake early for large amounts of people so it’s ehh to me.

Anyway, I’ve eaten at BBQ’s on 8th Street in Manhattan before they closed (haven’t been back since they reopened)and loved their dirt cheep mac & cheese and collard greens. The big ass pina coladas help but to be honest their mac & cheese and collard greens were the BOMB!

I have also had a personal chef from jean george prepare an entire meal for me & my guests exclusively in my room at the Trump in Columbus Circle.

The food was amazing and the service was top notch. The desserts were woah (i don’t even eat sweets like that).

If you’ve ever seen Diddy’s assistant reality show where he asked for a cappacino or whatever at the hotel he was staying at and was surprised that it wasn’t there within seconds of him asking…i understood, cuz at Trump whatever we asked for was there within seconds and a swift knock on the door and call on the phone. I’m not exaggerating at all…30 seconds or less….no joke. I was spoiled.

As an example, my sis was out of newports and was going to go out to buy and we were told to call the concierge and ask them to go to the store…so she did. 30 seconds later, the cigarettes were at our door…true story….ask my sis.

But back to the food.

I’m not a foody. I’m really picky but at the end of the day if it’s good…it’s good.

So, am I wrong for saying that though I liked the attention to detail and the taste of the food from the personal chef at jean george…i could really go for some mac & cheese and collard greens from bbq’s right now.?.??…

Monday I got two free tickets to a private Family Force 5 concert at the Gibson Showroom. My friend Ginger really likes them so I wanted her to be my guest. It was also an excuse to hang out with her. So we drive out to Beverly Hills and I know where we were going. Until the option to go on the local access lane or the thru traffic lane. I thought we went on the Local access the last time I went. So we went there and ended up on Rodeo drive. Forty five minutes of driving around asking for directions by Valet guys and a guy on a bike, we luckily found it. We waited in line and had a great time. Once we got in we were pretty close, as in 8 feet from them. They are crazy! They have great music. I had a great time. After the show they pointed out a band who was touring with them called QNS, Or Queens Club. I saw a guy with long brown hair and a Cash Cash shirt on. He was the kind of guy I really wanted to give a hug. I hardly ever have an erg to want to hug a total stranger, but I really wanted to hug him. I took a picture of him, stalkerish, I know. I never gave him a hug. It was a great show.

On Tuesday, OH MY LANTA!!!! We all got in line at 5:00 that night. Then Jeff ran away and I followed him. Then suddenly it was like I had gone to Narnia. Twenty feet below us in the House of Blues band parking lot, I saw five different Band buses and trailers. Then the Afro of Majesty walked from behind the band. Anthony Villacai was there. Heck yes! The others came around too. I whistled a few times at them but they didn’t hear. I did see Breath Carolina below and told them I wasn’t trying to get their attention… But I did say hi. We got Alaska and Erica to come over and they were nervous to even be in sight of them. I was watching them as of I were at the Zoo, loll. We ran back to line and chilled for a while. They soon after closed off Narnia and stayed put. After waiting until about six, I had to go to the rest room. Alaska pointed out a girl with a Cash Cash shirt on and I screamed and bee lined to her. It wasn’t a stranger, it was Sharron, Rachel and Leslie, part of our Cash Cash family from August 24. I was really excited to see them. I’m sure Alaska was very confused. We introduced them to Alaska and they introduced three other people, one was Kimberly, Crystal and for the life of me I can’t remember the other girl’s name. We got in at 7:20. We were pretty close, for the House of Blues. We waited until 8 for the first band ‘I Rival” to go on. They were really good. They had a great sound to them and great music. The next Band was “Queens Club” And there was the man I wanted to hug, on drums! He was INSANE on the drums! I wasn’t expecting that from him. I loved them. I didn’t get any pictures of them, but I wish I did!

The Moment couldn’t come sooner. The curtains opened and Anthony was sitting behind his purple zebra striped drums, ready to rock it. Alex ran out next. Then Sam. When Jean Paul walked out I screamed so loud it hurt. They sounded so good! I danced so hard that I was tired by the second song. I was sweating and I could barley stand, but I continued to jump and scream. Between Every song Erica screamed “I love you JP!” I then would yell “MARRY ME!” It wasn’t really directed at any of them as one. It was just whoever would accept my offer. They sand a cover song and in the middle a man in overalls ran out and started rapping. He was amazing. He ran off and they continued their crazy ways. They played ’Cash Cash’, ’Sugar Rush’, ’Dynamite’, ‘911′ and of course ‘Party in your Bedroom’. It was the coolest.

As soon as they were off stage, we ran out of the crazy mob and went upstairs to the Merch tables. I went to the Cash Cash table where Ozzy was working. Ozzy was the same guy who rapped for them. I started talking to him and distracted him from his work and other customers. We went and sat at the stairs and we waited. I got up and went to go talk to Ozzy again. Then there stood Alex. I ran to the others and we stood behind him and waited for him to turn around. We were beat by crazy fan girls who wanted pictures with him and one girl who was trying to dance with him. He wasn’t to into that so he lay on the table. Suddenly all the girls were gone and he was up. I went over to the table and leaned in. he also leaned in. I asked if he was tired. He said they were all sick. I was very sad for him so I offered to buy him a Coke. He was Afraid I would put Date Rape in it so I told him I would buy him a can. They stopped selling cans and I had a problem. I went back and leaned over the table. He leaned in, again and I explained my predicament. He agreed to trust me with buying a fountain drink. When I brought it back, he took it, smelled it, took a sip and pretended to choke. It was hilarious. He was very grateful for my gift. I asked for a picture and he didn’t give me a funny look like he did the other girls. I turned to see Sam Chillin with the others. I went over and he defiantly remembered me. I reminded him of the Car alarm incident and he was laughing at me. He is always a sweet heart. After a while I started chillen out with whoever and watched Breathe Carolina for one song from the balcony. When I went back I got a picture with Ozzy, he was really excited to take a picture with me.

I soon saw him. My Hug mate. [Soul mate, but hug] My two friends from the previous show where talking to him. That gave me the courage to go up to him. When I went over suddenly all his attention was directed at me. I felt bad because he sort of blocked the others out of the world. We started talking about how things were and how the show was going. He was having a great time. He told me he had only been to Cali a few times. He also told me about his previous band he was with. I told him about getting lost in Beverly Hills. we also talked about Cash Cash and the tour. He asked how i liked the show the night before. He was about to go sell merch when he gave me a hand shake and he used my bracelets as another topic starter. We talked about concerts I had been to and my history of concerts. He also asked if I had a tattoo on my fingers but he realized it was sharpie. I pointed out my temporary tattoo of Kung fu Panda and we talked about that. He asked what I had bought and he wanted to know if I bought a CD of QNS. I didn’t buy one yet so he started talking about why is should buy one. One, the back is pink, two, he is the drummer, three, there is a picture of a girls face, who he does not know. He sold me at two. I asked for a hug from him. He was really excited to give me a hug. I was right about Hug mates :] and I told him how I wanted to give him a hug the night before but I was too afraid. He said I should have given him a hug anyway and he said he remembered me from the previous night. I was really happy after that conversation.

Soon I went back to Alex and chatted with him a little, then to Sam. I looked out to the hall to see and Afro. Anthony walked into the room. I let all the girls swarm him. He was defiantly the sickest of them. He had dark rings around his eyes and a red nose. He took some pictures and I went over and started talking to him. He remembered me from the last concert and was excited to see me. According to Jeff he was laughing and smiling when I was talking to him. But when anyone else would talk to him he wouldn’t be too into the conversation. He took some pictures with us and he was soon on his way to talk to Sam.

A minute or two later, Jean Paul walked out. I was super excited because he was really cool at the last concert and he really spent time to get to know us. He immediately went to Jeff and talked to him about how he was sitting up on Alaska and Erica’s shoulders during the concert. He thought that was cool. We got some pictures with him. I had to tell him my pedicure story. When he looked down at my toes he pulled out his phone to take a picture. He started shaking his phone and I was really confused. So he started to slap my foot. I was really confused until I realized he wanted me to move my feet together. Ha.

Soon we had to depart. We went around and said good bye to all of our friends. We then went around and I said bye to the entire band and my new Bff.

By the way, His name is Jake Ryan. Ha-ha that is the famous guy Hannah Montana dated in the show. So when I mention him, everyone thinks it is that guy, and not the awesome guy I met. He was so cool. :]

That was my AMAZING night!

I really Hope Alaska posts her impression of the concert :O

Btw, I have the best luck ever when I go to concerts, I am just saying!

Peace Love Vron<3

How can it possibly be August? Of 2009!?

As I marvel at the date on the calendar, why don’t you hop in the wayback machine to 2008 when August was Name of the Day? It’s still one of my favorites for a boy.

Here in my RL, I’ve got a few new babies to report:

Elizabeth Violet, nn Elle – classic, but not dull;

John Paul – not sure if he’s John-Paul or even Jean Paul, but parents definitely use both names together;

A local mommy blogger is planning on naming her daughter-to-be Polly. IMHO, the world could use a few more Pollys. Big brother is Strummer – should I ever meet her face-to-face, I promise to ask about her inspiration.

Also in RL, but in ones far more glamorous – or at least visible – than mine:

Jude Law, known for his great taste in baby names, is apparently expecting #4 avec model/actress Samantha Burke. He was stepdad to Finlay and has three kids with ex-wife Sadie Frost: Rafferty, Iris and Rudy. Turns out that Sadie was the stylish namer of the duo, apparently – the baby-on-the-way is slated to be known as the classic-but-common Sophia;

Actress Kathryn Hahn welcomed daughter Mae, a sister for Leonard;

Dancer Ashly Costa embraces the obscure-but-wearable Biblical baby names category, welcoming son Enoch Daniel. Enoch was Name of the Day back in June. Big brother is Ammon Michael. Wonder if they’re planning on any more kiddos? Because on their current path, they could be the family forced to resort to Habakkuk;

Speaking of lots of kiddos, everyone’s favorite mega-family, the Duggars, announced that their first grandchild will be known as Mackynzie Renée. I think it is lovely that they’ve opted to stick with M in honor of matriarch Michelle. I also think it is too bad that Meredith didn’t make it to the top of the list, as they’d joked with morning talk’s Meredith Vieira during their reveal-the-gender television appearance.

And in the blogosphere:

Jill’s post on NameShame? Rocks.

Speaking of naming regrets, the mom blogger at Kicky Boots wrote about deciding to rename their toddler. Karenna Jolie is, I must say, a lovely choice for their daughter. Who cares it if it took a few months post-utero to settle on it?

During our discussion of Cinderella, Sebastiane mentioned that she’s heard of it on Cajun women. There is something fascinating happening in Louisiana, isn’t there? Nancy did a post on Cajun names from the Civil War, including Justilien and Dazincourt;

Did you check out the Nameberry Faves post – Beatrix, Penelope and Clementine are their Top Three. Beatrix is clearly a favorite here, too. Wonder if we’ll see that reflected in the US rankings in a few years?

Xanthe Linnea wrote about Cedric. Anyone else think that the Harry Potter/Twilight connection might make Cedric an unlikely choice in, say, a decade and a half? Edward Cedric, anyone?

Bewildertrix spotted Asher on a girl; Elisabeth reports a girl called Archer. Asher doesn’t surprise me, what with Ashley/Ashlyn/Ashtyn. But Archer? Knock me over with a feather;

I loved Bewildertrix’s post on villain names like Regan, Judas, Iago, Jezebel, Hannibal … whenever I ding Regan, I can expect a few angry comments. But I’m with her on this one – Regan wasn’t much of a role model to begin with, and the fact that the name caught on post-Exorcist? Scary. Even better, her comment on Lucifer – “Sound wise it’s magnificent. To use it? Cruel.”

A pair of Canadian parents insist they are angst-free over their decision to name their daughters Shade Star Pirate and Styles Knight Mansion. I respect the amount of thought they put into their choices. But I can’t help think that somewhere in there, they could’ve given their daughters a less aggressively unusual name, just in case the girls grow up to have interests other than their parents’ professions, Star Wars and attractions at Disney World;

Let’s end on a high note – Sebastiane featured a truly classic girls’ name over at Legit Baby Names – Martha, Marta, Marthe.

In semi-name news, I’ve been coveting my neighbors’ gas-sipping, eco-chic SmartCar for months now. I was charmed to learn that the forerunner of today’s Smart wore the lovely name Isetta. Hey, if girls can be named Camry. And Shade …

Thanks for reading!

. . “. Am vergangenen Montag ist Peter Horst Neumann im Alter von 73 Jahren in Nürnberg gestorben. / LOTHAR MÜLLER, SZ 1.8.
