Homeowners who have to sell in today’s market can face a number of obstacles, but Realtors® are rising to the challenge with innovative approaches that help sellers get to sold.

Securing financing can hold many home buyers back. An attractive alternative for these buyers is seller financing, which is an arrangement in which sellers may be willing to finance all or part of the purchase for that buyer. A Realtor® can help negotiate these transactions and make sure that the Seller’s interests are covered.

Realtors® are also equipped to help buyers and sellers develop lease- purchase agreements, in which sellers allow a buyer to lease the property with either an option to buy, applying a portion of the rent toward a future down payment or a fully executed purchase agreement.

Realtors® are getting creative with marketing approaches, as well. Some recent examples:

One-time, 15-minute open houses

Home trades

Strategic pricing techniques

One key thing my sellers and I are pursuing as a Selling Edge right now is a concept exclusively offered through my broker Prudential Georgia Realty. It is called the HELP program or Buyer Job Loss Protection. This allows for Sellers to provide an incentive to their Buyer that covers the Buyer against involuntary unemployment for a period of twenty-four months or two full years after closing! The benefit pays out up to $1,800 per month for six months giving that Buyer, and now the happy new home owner, and opportunity to find new employment without stressing over the mortgage!

A list of homes in the Athens, Winder, and Jefferson area can be found on my website at http://www.athensgahomesforsale.com/athens-ga-homes.aspx. Look for Job Loss Protection logos or verbiage by the listing. These homes can be seen in such neighborhoods as Cedar Creek, Brittany’s Garden, and Huntington Park in Athens to Sweet Apple in Winder and Sheperds Crossing in Jefferson just to name a few!

So, after a 4-day posting break on the Creators’ Blog, there is yet another update to the newly announced Counterfeit Island. This one might actually relate to the word “Counterfeit” in the island’s name. It’s called “At The Station”.

You don’t want to be on the wrong side of those bars!

DR. HARE

So, looks like Dr. Hare is joining the Counterfeit party. It shows what looks like a sheriff’s office, with a poster above the desk reading “Stolen Painting – Thomas Jefferson”. This may relate to a counterfeit art piece being replaced by it so far. This is the first real clue as to the actual plot of Counterfeit Island, although the rest of the pieces still don’t seem to fit. Looks like we’ll just have to wait this one out a bit longer for some more details.

10. Peter the Great
Politics

Peter I’s rule as Czar saw many changes in Russia in the early 1700’s which would extend over the next couple hundred years. Russia was brought into the modern realm under Peter’s hand and went through much reformation to do so. Peter the Great expanded Russia greatly and strengthened their presence in Europe. Because of Peter, Russia was able to grow into the superpower it would eventually become, a superpower which would shape the fabric of world politics greatly.

9. Edward Jenner
Biology

Edward Jenner is the father of immunology and has had a major influence on medical advancements. During his time, small pox was ravaging the population. Jenner developed the vaccine which would hold the bugs at bay and set a whole new path for vaccination and medicine and would also lead to the eradication of small pox worldwide.

8. Maximilien Robespierre
Politics

One of the major events of the twentieth century was the bloody and violent French Revolution, a turning point from the feudal times of old to the fulfillment of the Enlightenment movement. One of the most influential figures in this great revolution was Maximilien Robespierre. Robespierre was unyielding in leading the fight against the monarchy, and his Reign of Terror left an indelible mark upon history.

7. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Music

Mozart is one of the most popular musicians in world history. He was the very definition of a child savant and made huge leaps and bounds in terms of classical music. He was an eccentric character and a celebrity of his time. His impact upon music, one of the great threads of any cultural fabric, is almost incalculable.

6. Leonhard Euler
Mathematics

Mathematicians have had a huge impact on the evolution of science and technology all throughout history. Some of these mathematicians are so important that their names are heard over and over again’ their thoeries and formulas used everywhere in math. Euler is one of those mathematicians. His discoveries in math are far-reaching; from calculus to geometry to graph theory. He is one of the greatest mathematicians in recent centuries.

5. George Washington
Politics

I stated previously that the 18th century is marked by two major events, one of which being the aforementioned French Revolution. The other of course is the American Revolution of the 1770’s where the United States separated from the British Empire. George Washington is the man who commanded the American forces against the British troops and would become the first president of the United States of America. America’s significance would only grow out of the Revolutionary War more and more each decade, and Washington was the man who first and foremost founded this nation which would grow into one of the greatest super powers the world has ever seen.

4. Immanuel Kant
Philosophy

Kant’s ideas in the 18th century are still some of the most powerful and influential ideas today. Kant was a leader of the Enlightenment movement through his ideas on reason and ethics. His ideas would be the basis for the two major revolutions of that time and he created a shift in philosophical thinking, influencing almost all who came after.

3. Thomas Jefferson
Politics

Thomas Jefferson is considered the driving force behind the USA’s Declaration of Independence and one of the fathers of democracy. The United States have become perhaps the most powerful and influential superpowers in history and its ideas of a free society have permeated throughout the world. Jefferson’s legacy, and the legacy of the other founding fathers of America, is still felt every day all around the world, whether it is through the democratic realms of other nations or through opposition of that great ideal.

2. James Watt
Innovation

Watt’s invention f the steam engine is one of those inventions which, quite simply put, change the world. This invention kicked off the Industrial Revolution, which would grow throughout the next century and would dominate the entire world, creating all sorts of population, industry and technological growth at an exponential scale. It could also be argued that the steam engine kicked off the greater accessibility of transportation, leading to the ’shrinking’ of the world which we know today.

1. Adam Smith
Economics

Adam Smith is the father of modern economics. His book The Wealth of Nations has become a road map for economics throughout the industrial revolution all the up until present day. Smith’s ideas about money and how it is used and distributed within our societies are vastly influential as money is usually behind almost everything that we do. For his massive contribution to helping us understand the driving force behind the progress of society, namely the economy, Smith is the most influential person of the 18th century.

We Told You So

The scariest thing about libertarians is that they can vote. As a general rule they cannot tell the difference between The Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and The Federalist Papers. They are so gullible they actually believe the income tax is illegal and so ignorant that there is no way to explain it to them. As Glen Cook puts it, they fell out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down. Unfortunately for us and the rest of the world, there are no IQ provisions for citizenship. Libertarians can vote. Small wonder the economy is tanking around us.

In Libertarian Land, I think the American Revolution went down something like this. Little Tommy Jefferson went into their clubhouse (with the no icky girls allowed sign on the door.) and said, “That George III is a real poophead. I don’t want to play with him anymore.”

And little Al Hamilton replied, “Me too. Let’s get rid of him.”

Georgie Washington added “I’m tired of playing with this hatchet. Let’s have a revolution instead. You got book learnin’, Tommy. Why don’t you write him a letter and tell him to go soak his head?”

In the real world, the founders of America were a very diverse group. Many shared a common tie with the Masons, which only reaffirms the Mason’s mission of bringing different people together. Jefferson and Washington spoke for the southern agrarian plantation owners. Alexander Hamilton was the most progressive of the founders, but even he spoke primarily for the northern industrialists. Then there were other founders such as John Adams and John Jay who were determined to see to it that the wealthy had the same special privileges as they had under England. All these people were brought together out of a common need to escape British rule. Jefferson wanted an agrarian utopia while Adams wanted a hereditary Senate in imitation of the British House of Lords, but all put aside their differences to achieve a common goal.

The Declaration of Independence was a legal document telling the British Monarch that the colonies were demanding independence. It has no standing in American Law. It was an inspiring piece penned by the inimitable Jefferson. It had the effect of winning the loyalty of those who were going to die in the upcoming war. Still, the Declaration of Independence was written in the proper legal language of the time. When they said “All Men are created equal”, it was not the generic term as it is generally used. Men was defined as people of substance with money or property. It did not include women who were still chattel. It did not mean slaves or children. They were legally chattel as well. Men meant upper class white males.

By the end of the revolution, African slavery was still an accepted institution. Children were still sold into apprenticeship and adults could still sell themselves into indentured servitude. You could still be jailed for your debts and most of the thirteen states limited the vote to people above a certain income level. In the State of Maryland you had to be both wealthy and Catholic to vote. In Massachusetts you were only allowed to vote if you were a Congregationalist. Each state was autonomous and sent representatives to Philadelphia mostly to negotiate trade. Britain was killing the colonial industries by supplying finished goods at prices local craftsmen would not beat. The south still sold its cotton to England but at much lower prices. New York and New Jersey went to war over access to New York Harbor. The Free Market reigned supreme and the only one happy about it was England.

Thirteen independent nations were being eaten to death by England and internal rivalry. Free Market capitalism was tearing the fledgling US into shreds and leaving the door open to England walking in and taking America back without a shot being fired. This is why there is a Constitution. This is why we are not the Confederated States of America. The wealthiest and most influential men in the new nation joined together to create a more perfect union. That is why they needed the Federalist Papers.

Keep in mind there was a lot of resistance to a Constitution. On the whole the southern states wanted it. They needed protection from England purchasing their cotton for too little money. On the other hand, the northern states had influential citizens who were making a fortune by buying cheap finished goods from Europe and a tariff would cut into their trade. So Madison, Hamilton, and Jay got together and wrote newspaper articles in favor of the Constitution. Put together, the Federalist Papers are a fascinating document. It outlines the philosophy behind the Constitution. It explains the economic and political conditions of the day. It has little to do with the Constitution itself.

You will find nothing inspiring in the Constitution. This is why the libertarian propagandists rarely quote it and libertarians never read it. It is as bland as oatmeal and as exciting as watching hot grannies knit sweaters. Alexander Hamilton did not conceive it after a night of peyote buttons and cheap tequila. The Constitution of the United States was written by a committee. Many people worked on the Constitution, and the finished document had little in common with the hopes of the Federalist Papers. Alexander Hamilton fought against the Bill of Rights. Jay must have cursed when the rabble were awarded the vote, but managed to slip in the electoral college anyway. The south was happy to get a central government which could both ratify and enforce treaties with Europe. The north was pissed because the new Federal Government could impose and enforce tariffs, ending England’s domination of American trade. More to the point, the new Federal Government had the right to impose and collect taxes. How and when the Federal Government can regulate business is written into the Constitution, even though Hamilton and Madison both argued against it.

The most frustrating thing about the Constitution is its vagueness. It was a document that was designed to change with the times. You can peruse the constitution all your life but you will not find one word that enshrines capitalism as our only possible economic system. There is no clause that makes the income tax illegal. There is nothing that says we have to vote for either Democrats or Republicans. The people who joined together to create the Constitution understood that conditions change. They expected their tomorrow to be different than their today, and they left it to us as to how we wanted to interpret the Constitution. The Constitution shall not fall because we voted for the single payer system. There is nothing unconstitutional about unions.

The libertarians have forgotten that the American Revolution was more than the hand full of dead statesmen they canonized into their lords and saviors. They forgot that Jefferson had very little influence on the Constitution. Alexander Hamilton created the first American Tax, and that Washington lead troops to put down the Whiskey Tax rebellion. They are like Christianoids and the Bible. They have no idea of what the Constitution says or represents but parrot any damned babble that their leaders tell them. Laws that protect American industries, impose taxes, and impose limits to unacceptable behavior are written in the Constitution. Libertarians can hold their breath and kick their heels all they want, and it will still not change the fact that they are the greatest threat to the Constitution since George III.

A member wrote:
You plugged a XP machine into the modem/router and nothing happened. So I was curious why you would think a Linux based machine would make a difference. Sorry if it came off as snotty. And I have always said, the only stupid question is the one un-asked.

The other thing you could look into is http://www.virtualbox.org/

Sun VirtualBox. I have Ubuntu and Win7 RC installed inside it. But you can install all kinds of OS’s, mess with them all you like. That way you aren’t limited to just that version Linux, you could install them all, as long as you have the hard drive space.

My reply:
Aha, you misunderstood. I have NEVER until now had the guts to plug anything into the Westell router, because we have little money, and I cant afford the headache and expense of messing up my home internet. But now, from what you tell me and what I have read in google (and I wrote a long support question to Startech, who will probably get back to me next week about their Ethernet card which is only $10, and claims to have Linux drivers).

Also, here is a funny true story. Last week, I thought my stepdaughter was telling me that she has an old tower she doesnt want, and I could wipe out the drive with a pure Ubuntu install. She just called to say her husband was bringing it over with a monitor (which I can keep)…. but when I told her my plans, she was horrified, and said that she wants me to CLEAN UP THE VIRUSES and give it back to her, because right now it will only boot in F2 Safe mode. Ha ha! I am glad I asked, and she should have been less vague and cavalier. But now I have little fear about plugging the cable from the Westell jack into the ethernet jack. Besides, it stands to reason what when any software is about to modify anything, it would prompt.

Although, here are two things I didnt understand about Verizon DSL. Once, I changed the password on the Verizon email account, and that DISABLES the modem that is connected to that account, and a service technician must do a number of things over the phone to restore the DSL service. That was a painful lesson. Another time, DSL was down, and I though I should take a pen and hit the reset button on the Westell. I didnt realize that doing that WIPES OUT EVERYTHING in the Westell, and you have to get on the phone for an hour with a technician to reset the Westell. So perhaps those two horrible experiences contribute to my fear and hesitancy to mess with the Westell.

Old saying: once burnt, twice shy. Plus, if it ain’t broke dont fix it. Years ago we had our first home DSL with AOL. My stepson who was only 13, decided one day to reinstall AOL from a new diskette that came in the mail. That WIPED OUT THE DSL, and AOL was NEVER able to restore it, and their tech dept was not too worried about restoring it.

Thanks for your feedback, it did help! I wasn’t hesitant about hooking up an Ubuntu machine. I am just scared to death of Verizon and Westell. I did take the courage to go into the Westell setep to enable Wifi with WEP key protection. 3 years ago in my 27 story high rise, one could pick up all sorts of unprotected wi-fi. NOW, all the channels are protected and one is even named “GET AWAY!!!”. People began to realize that other people could steal bandwidth.

I would like to close by suggestion something that I think Thomas Jefferson would suggest were he alive today: namely FREE PUBLIC WIFI in every city. Jefferson asked that only two accomplishments be mentioned on his tombstone: that he signed the Declaration of Independence, and that he founded the University of Virginia. Jefferson suggested free education for all, which in his day seemed like a strange idea. After all, education was only for nobility and the wealthy. The peasant farmers and laborers didnt need to know how to read. But Jefferson realized that unless ALL were educated, even laborers and farm workers, then there could NEVER be a government “of the people and by the people.”

What does this have to do with free wi-fi, you ask? Everything. Today, computer illiteracy is the new danger. In 1960, my mother had to fight to get me a $2000 World Book encyclopedia so I could do my homework in 6th grade, because there were no libraries close by. But today, who buys an encylopedia, when there are search engines and things like Wikipedia?
Every child NEED computers and internet access. True there are dangers and abuses in chat rooms etc, but then there are dangers in the postal mail system. That does not mean we should do away with the post office. It means that we should find safe guards and establish punishments for crimes committed using the U.S. mail or the internet. We must make it a crime to shout FIRE as a joke in a public auditorium, but we must preserve freedom of speech. And if there is ANYTHING at all in this world which will unify all peoples and nations and creeds it is the communication and understanding provided by the Internet. I know because I have a friend of 10 years now in Tehran Iran, who loves Plato and Tolstoy and Dostoevsky and everything that is western and free.

In a very poor neighborhood in one large city in India, where there are many high tech computer firms, as an experiment, they installed many rugged computer terminals in the alley ways where homeless street children dwelt. Those children quickly learned how to be very

A funny sentence was handed down yesterday, Friday the 13th, to put a metaphorical stamp on the sad

A funny sentence was handed down yesterday, Friday the 13th, to put a metaphorical stamp on the sad saga of one ex-congressman William Jefferson, who had so famously been caught by the feds in a sting operation, hiding 90,000 dollars in his freezer that he had accepted as a bribe from an undercover federal agent.

He was sentenced to 13 years in federal prison…on Friday the 13th. You can not make this kind of thing up. Reality is always stranger than fiction.

Among the charges are the fact that the corrupt Congressman from Louisiana had once diverted emergency-response resources during Hurricane Katrina to evacuate himself and his family from harms way.

It was also proven that he had participated in racketeering and had accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from lobbyist to vote in their favor, which was a vote against the best interest of the citizens in his district.

William Jefferson, a Democratic lawmaker represented a district in the southern state of Louisiana that included part of New Orleans. The last thing the citizens of New Orleans needs is another corrupt politician, so justice has been served in getting this menace to society off the streets.

Federal judge T.S. Ellis in Alexandria, Virginia handed down a sentence that’s less than half of what prosecutors had wanted, but it’s still much longer than the previous record-holder — former congressman Randy Duke Cunningham, now serving 8 years 4 months.

Jefferson, 62, was also ordered to forfeit more than 470,000 dollars in assets.

The AP is reporting…“In a stunning betrayal of the public’s trust, former congressman Jefferson repeatedly used his public office for private gain,” Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Mythili Raman said in a statement.

“The lengthy prison sentence imposed on Mr Jefferson today is a stark reminder to all public officials that the consequences of accepting bribes can and will be severe.”

Jefferson lost his New Orleans seat to Anh “Joseph” Cao, a liberal Republican who backed Pelosi on health care but still voted with the GOP around 75% of the time, according to Cao’s office.

I have proclaimed Cao,even though he is a Republican, as the savior of the American citizens, because of his informed and brave vote for Pelosi’s healthcare for all bill, because it is exactly what is right for the Republican voters, who tend to vote against their own interest 99 percent of the time.

Given the fact that the conviction of the felon Jefferson meant that America got a true hero in Cao, I can only focus on the fact that Jefferson’s self-propelled downfall, is the best thing to happen for America.

Karma is truly at work in this dynamic situation.

“Mr Jefferson’s repeated attempts to sell his office caused significant damage to the public’s trust in our elected leaders,” said US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Neil MacBride.

Here is a You tube report on this case of corruption from the AP…

“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have too much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt (second inaugural address, 1937)

Gray skies, billowing wind, and periods of harsh rain are slowly dissipating from the Washington D.C. area. While our friends and family back home in sunny southern California have been enjoying the typically perfect weather, we’ve been walking around Washington D.C. over the last few days enjoying the sites after long days of workshops. We’re here with my student journalists for the 85th annual National High School Journalism Convention, and our group represent just 14 out of the 6,347 students in attendance from around the country.

This time last year we were in St. Louis for this event and the weather was quite similar. However, during that trip Kerri and I did our first televised interview for the One Dollar Diet Project. From a local NBC affiliate in St. Louis we answered questions on the Canandian Broadcast Corporation’s “News Hour,” doing our best to help people understand what our experience was like.

At this point, we’ve done so many interviews that it should be clear for most people that this blog started as a way for us to explore the economics of eating through a form of participatory journalism. We hoped that it would help us understand some of the challenges of those who are trying to eat without very much money. It did.

The power of this form of experimentation, and journalism hit us again a couple of days ago when we visited the Newseum, a new museum in D.C. dedicated to the field of journalism. The work of writers like Nellie Bly, who in 1887 faked being insane so that she could be admitted to the Woman’s Lunatic Asylum on Blackwell Island to learn about and write about the experiences of the women imprisoned there, are works worth cherishing. After her article was published, she wrote a book, “Ten Days in the Mad House” which prompted an $850k increase of funds for public charities. More recently the work of modern authors like Barbara Ehrenreich and humorist A.J. Jacobs have helped give us insights that typical reporters cannot.

In addition to visiting the Newseum, we’ve also had the privilege to visit our nation’s Constitution, Bill of Rights, and The Declaration of Independence, and the experience has been an inspiration.

Yet last night, when the student’s sessions were done and the rain had cleared we made our way to some of the monuments we hadn’t seen yet: the Lincoln memorial, the FDR memorial, and the Jefferson memorial. I hadn’t visited Lincoln or Jefferson since the fifth grade, and I had never seen the memorial to Franklin D. Roosevelt. The sound of the sequence of pummeling waterfalls at the FDR site creates a sense calm, which is juxtaposed by cast iron installations, one of which is a line of people waiting outside a door; a reminder of the struggles of the great depression.

In addition to his message, “I Hate War,” which boldly gives visitors reason to pause, is another value of his which is graven in stone for all to see, and that quote is the one at the top of this post. During a time when the debate about health insurance reform continues, and libertarian economic attitudes continue to flourish in ways that leave the least among us without, I hope that some will remember the words of our past president.

- Christopher

This Just In:

William “Cold Cash” Jefferson, former Democratic Representative from Louisiana was sentenced to 13 years in prison today after being convicted on a number of federal corruption charges.

Jefferson, you will recall, was infamous for having $90,000 in bribe money hidden in his freezer.

According to John Bresnahan on Politico.com:

Jefferson’s sentence was the harshest ever handed out to a former lawmaker, but Justice Department officials said Jefferson warranted such a severe sanction due to the unprecedented scale of his corruption.

There will be no appeal. Given the nature of his corruption, he’s lucky he only got 13 years, harshest sentence or not.

Again from Bresnahan:

Jefferson, 62, will be the fifth former member of Congress since 2000 to end up behind bars, joining ex-Reps. Duke Cunningham (R-Calif.), Jim Traficant (Ohio), Bob Ney (R-Ohio) and Frank Ballance (D-N.C.) on the list of imprisoned lawmakers.

A sixth former member, ex-Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Ariz.), was indicted last year on federal fraud and money laundering charges, but his case has yet to go to trail due to constitutional challenges raised by Renzi’s attorneys.

I don’t care what party you belong to… you belonged to the UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES – A privilege that should not be taken lightly, nor abused in the manner done by Jefferson, Cunningham, Traficant, Ney and Ballance and, allegedly, by Renzi.

Let the chips fall where they will; get these vermin OUT of government and then, please… GO BACK FOR MORE. There’s no shortage.

There will be no book deals, no appearances on Oprah and no one to take on you’re your cause, gentlemen. Let Renzi have his day in court to attempt to prove his innocence or, hopefully, do the right thing if he’s, in fact, guilty. The others? You are the scum of the earth. You lived privileged lives as Representatives, and decided that was not enough. You wanted more at our expense, and you took it. From Payoffs to Payback – Rot away, gentlemen.

And to those of you in Congress that haven’t been caught yet… tick-tock…

It’s a little hard to describe how I’m feeling as the Hamiltonian Empire moves toward prohibiting outright the free exercise of medicine across the 50 states. What I want to know is: in a world of such willing slaves, where is a freeman safe? To which land am I expected to retire in lieu of this — the original land of liberty?

If my simian contemporaries cannot perceive their own chains, how can I begin to teach them to pick the lock? The voter seems satisfied with the notion that there is a healthcare “crisis” and without an Imperial intervention, there would be people dying in the streets. Will anyone ask why the governments of our sovereign states cannot handle the matter? Surely because they would not come to such a coercive conclusion! The states are in a market, competing amongst themselves. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has preempted this drive to ‘universal healthcare’ and is suffering the consequences. Costs are rising, care is suffering, and desirable residents are leaving for other states. Coercionists always seek the highest plane of power to project their edicts because they know that individuals have a natural drive to be free. The other advantage is that the citizens are more easily duped by matters ‘elevated’ to ‘national’ level. They can be convinced that the sound rules of interpersonal respect — do not hit, steal, or murder — no longer apply. They can be convinced that there are complexities to the issue that can only be understood by the likes of Nancy Pelosi.

Until you morons of the left and right figure out that “federal law” is just another way to say “no escape,” you will continue to sink into poverty and despair. And worse, you’ll drag the innocent and enlightened down with you.

I often wonder, at moments such as these, whether the classical liberal tradition was too hasty in embracing another universal — suffrage.

I own six hundred of you but I am good.

Here. See. I have allowed the building of these huts for you to live in. Scavenge my land if you want. Get some firewood. Maybe squirrels. Take water from my stream. If you are young and ripe sneak yourself into the big house and share my dark. Sneak out with the light.

Now, do not anger me. Of course, I am slow to anger but it happens. Careful. I might sell

the mother to that farmer in Georgia. You don’t want that. He has no patience with any beast he owns. And, he has whips. Sell the daughter to the toothless

tobacco chewer in Kentucky. He likes them young. He’s got money. All legal, of course.

Six hundred of you. All mine. As you will discover in my will. No one is freed. But here, have a potato. An onion.

Now I am going to clear my throat, take a sip of water, and will speak about the rights of man.

The nobility of man. The majesty of man. Listen

Closely to me. Why not? You have for the last two centuries.

On the increasing irrelevancy of Tom Jefferon. Soon to be unquotable. After that,

Just when I am losing hope for the future of America, I find The Year of Youth: Project 2012. I encourage everyone to check it out. Here is a group of young folks that get it! They comprehend the bankruptcy of the false Left/Right paradigm. They understand that the real paradigm is Freedom vs. Tyranny.

The only thing that stands in their way are opportunist, establishment, Liberals and Conservatives who profit from the status quo - Neocons and the phony Left / controlled opposition working together to hoodwink us into a global police state.

The future is in the hands of the youth. Passion, excitement, real hope…

THE YOUTH MANIFESTO

“In this time of crisis and national decline, the youth of America bear a responsibility to step up and speak out against the destructive policies of our so-called leaders.

Both major parties bow and scrape before the altar of the status quo, each using their time in power to expand Leviathan government and shred the liberties of the American people.

“Change” has become an empty slogan abused for political gain then discarded. “Reform” as a countering meme is equally a farce. Nothing truly changes.

America is stumbling into the twenty-first century weak and rudderless, hobbled by exploding debt, a broken financial system, and disastrous foreign entanglements.

And what is the collective wisdom of the establishment and our so-called leaders? “Stay the course, stay the course, stay the course.”

No. We must change course.

Our generation cannot stand by as spectators while our future darkens by the day.

We must step up and show to the world the power of a generation awakened.

We call on youth everywhere to organize and prepare for our day of maximum effort: November 5th, 2012 – on the eve of Election Day in the Year of Youth.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November.”

“Religions are all alike – founded upon fables and mythologies.” — Thomas Jefferson

“Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burned, tortured, fined, and imprisoned, yet we have not advanced one inch toward uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half of the world fools and the other half hypocrites.” — Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia

“During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution.” –James Madison, aka “Father of the Constitution”

“The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.” –John Adams, Treaty of Tripoli, article 11

“The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason.” –Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard’s Almanack, 1758

“Lighthouses are more helpful than churches.” –Benjamin Franklin

“You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.” –Abraham Lincoln

“In Christianity neither morality nor religion come into contact with reality at any point.” –Friedrich Nietzsche

“Which is it, is man one of God’s blunders or is God one of man’s?” –Friedrich Nietzsche

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?” –Epicurus

“Atheism leads a man to sense, to philosophy, to natural piety, to laws, to reputation: all of which may be guides to an outward moral virtue…” –Sir Francis Bacon

“It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.” –Carl Sagan

“Faith is the great cop-out, the great excuse to evade the need to think and evaluate evidence. Faith is belief in spite of, even perhaps because of, the lack of evidence.” –Richard Dawkins

“I do not believe that any type of religion should ever be introduced into the public schools of the United States.” –Thomas Edison

“I do not think it is necessary to believe that the same God who has given us our senses, reason, and intelligence wished us to abandon their use, giving us by some other means the information that we could gain through them.” –Galileo Galilei

“Organized religion is a sham and a crutch for weak-minded people who need strength in numbers. It tells people to go out and stick their noses in other people’s business.” Jesse “The Body” Ventura

“If only God would give me some clear sign! Like making a large deposit in my name at a Swiss Bank.” –Woody Allen

“If it turns out that there is a God, I don’t think that he’s evil. But the worst that you can say about him is that basically he’s an underachiever.” –Woody Allen

“I’m an atheist, and that’s it. I believe there’s nothing we can know except that we should be kind to each other and do what we can for each other.” –Katherine Hepburn

“Faith is believing something you know ain’t true.” –Mark Twain

“O Lord our God, help us tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with their little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it…” –Mark Twain, The War Prayer

“If there is a God, he is a malign thug.” –Mark Twain

“[The Bible] has noble poetry in it… and some good morals and a wealth of obscenity, and upwards of a thousand lies.” –Mark Twain

“The pioneers and missionaries of religion have been the real cause of more trouble and war than all other classes of mankind.” –Edgar Allen Poe

“The problem with faith, is that it really is a conversation stopper. Faith is a declaration of immunity to the powers of conversation. It is a reason, why you do not have to give reasons, for what you believe.” –Sam Harris

“Where we have reasons for what we believe, we have no need of faith; where we have no reasons, we have lost both our connection to the world and to one another.” –Sam Harris

“We have been slow to recognize the degree to which religious faith perpetuates man’s inhumanity to man” — Sam Harris

“The president of the United States has claimed, on more than one occasion, to be in dialogue with God. If he said that he was talking to God through his hairdryer, this would precipitate a national emergency. I fail to see how the addition of a hairdryer makes the claim more ridiculous or offensive.” –Sam Harris, Letter to a Christian Nation

“Theology is ignorance with wings.” –Sam Harris

“The moral truth here is obvious: anyone who feels that the interests of a blastocyst just might supersede the interests of a child with a spinal cord injury has had his moral sense blinded by religious metaphysics.” –Sam Harris

“According to the most common interpretation of biblical prophecy, Jesus will return only after things have gone horribly awry. Imagine the consequences if any significant component of the U.S. government believed that the world was about to end and that its ending would be glorious. The fact that nearly half of the American population apparently believes this should be considered a moral and intellectual emergency.” –Sam Harris

So many respected people throughout history have been Atheists, Agnostics, Anti-Theists, Humanists, or other versions of free-thought inspired identities… isn’t it time as a whole that we at least consider their points of view?

This week’s Biggest Loser show was filmed in Washington, D.C. and included a trip to the White House

This week’s Biggest Loser show was filmed in Washington, D.C. and included a trip to the White House for the contestants. Overall, it was a pretty interesting episode. We got to see some interesting sites like the Jefferson Memorial and the Washington Monument. It was interesting to see the vegetable garden that the Obama’s planted. It was interesting to see the White House kitchen. The kitchen is not on the typical tour. They even had their typical contestant commentary at the White House.

I did have one very big issue with the visit to the White House. The issue I had was with the politics. Trainer Bob had to get his political views expressed on nation television. This ruined the episode. The contestants even had the opportunity to talk to a couple of members of congress and did not express any political views.

Bob mentioned the healthy habits of the Obama’s. I agree that it is great that our First Family eats healthy and eats fresh. This is a great example for the American people. I agree that obesity in this nation has become an epidemic. Even I was bordering on obesity. This year, I have lost 50 pounds. I have to give a lot of the credit to the Biggest Loser show.

The line was crossed during the trainer commentary piece. Trainer Bob started gushing over the Obama presidency. If he had kept it to comments on health, it would have been fine. But talking about how great he thinks Obama is doing as president was way over the line. NBC should have edited out those comments.

This show is about winning the fight against obesity. It is about teaching the American people how to take control of their eating and exercise habits. Teaching us how to successfully lose weight and how to keep it off. Politics have no place in this show. Bob, you are the Biggest Loser.
