Kings Arsenal celebrated a historic year with a gala awards ceremony in the futuristic curry soundings of the Clapham Tandori.

In among the poppadoms and curry Honorary President James Payne and captain Mark Tinklin handed out four awards including the prestigious Players Player of the Year Award.

Here are the winners:

PRESIDENT’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Mark Tinklin won this award after leading the Kings to the Championship title in his first season at the helm and for sometimes scoring from inside his own half.

LUKE TINKLIN MISS OF THE SEASON AWARD

This award is named in honour of Luke’s tendancy to miss absolute sitters, but this year it went to (probable) top scorer Paul Jenkins for putting the ball over and wide from centimeters out against Non Sensible Soccer two weeks ago.

BEST NEWCOMER

There have been many new faces to grace the field for Kings Arsenal this season and James Britton tipped fellow nominees Fabricio Mazzola and Philip Foster for his high work rate, strength at the back and occasionally turning up on time. He’s also the first person to reply to the “who’s playing on Sunday emails” every week.

And finally…

PLAYERS PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

A shocked Luke Tinklin picked up the Players’ Player award, ahead of Mark, PJ and Phil, after receiving 43% of the votes. The striker/keeper has improved dramatically over the past year and is now Kings Arsenal’s impact performer. Able to create chances with accidental moments of skill or by simply harassing the defence, he no longer misses as many open goals and pulls of quality saves when asked to fill-in in goal.

Kings Arsenal 9 -3 Rosie FC Kings Arsenal rocked the Wandsworth Pitch Invasion establishment last ni

Kings Arsenal 9 -3 Rosie FC

Kings Arsenal rocked the Wandsworth Pitch Invasion establishment last night with a stunning 9-3 win over defending champions Rosie FC.

The famous victory sends the Kings up to third in the Premiership table, three points behind the current leaders with just four games left of the mini-season.

Kings Arsenal, starting with only five players in the bitter December cold, made a fantastic start when captain Mark Tinklin received the ball on half-way and smashed it into the bottom corner.

Rosie FC didn’t know what had hit them, but soon levelled when some confusion in defence allowed the player wearing mouldies and without shin-pads to smash the ball across stand-in keeper Luke “Jorge Campos in ¾ lengths” Tinklin.

However, the Kings were back in front straight away when Tinklin took the ball off an opposition player in midfield and struck from half-way for the second time in the match.

Despite Kings Arsenal’s 2-1 advantage Rosie FC were having the best of the possession as the Reds kept giving them the ball back with either slack passing or countless long shots from Tinklin.

Just before half-time Rosie FC levelled when more uncertainty in defence allowed their midfielder to tap in even though the keeper and at least two Kings defenders were inside the penalty area.

Kings Arsenal almost took the lead just before the break when Tinklin twice hit the post with skilful efforts in quick succession after some intricate passing moves.

The Reds took the momentum from the end of the first half into the second and went on to produce a memorable display of Total Football – Johan Cruyff would have been proud.

Players were exchanging positions effortlessly and creating countless chances against a team that went the whole of last season unbeaten.

Rosie FC may have controlled possession in the first period, but after the interval in was a different story as Kings Arsenal got their imperious passing game in to full swing.

Tinklin was still blasting shots at goal everytime he could see the whites of the posts, but did hit the wordwork twice and finally completed his hat-trick after exchanging passes with Paul Jenkins and beating two defenders.

Jenkins and Phil Foster were tormenting the Rosie defence with their movement and soon got the goals they deserved as the heads of the reigning champions began to drop.

Foster got a long awaited goal and celebrated with American gusto and Jenkins smashed home a brilliant volley that went straight through the net.

James Payne was having a great game in defence and linking up to devastating effect with Jenkins,

He even got a goal, smashing in a ruthless half-volley from two-yards out.

At the other end Luke Tinklin filled in admirably for Brazilian stopper Fabricio Mazzola once again and made a fantastic double save.

He dived to his right to tip one shot onto the crossbar and then, while still on the floor, stretched out his foot to divert a quickly struck rebound back onto the bar.

Rosie FC did get one more, but by the end of the game Kings Arsenal were so dominant they’d forgotten just how many goals they scored and were practically clapped off the pitch by the vanquished former champions.

Carol services, for Christians, are a time to celebrate new life. But after a while, it becomes easy to forget what this really means.

This was not the case for the congregation at the Church of St John the Baptist, Cardiff last Tuesday. They were there to give thanks for organ donation.

Singers from Côr Aelwyd y Waun Ddyfal

As the youthful crowd fumbled over Welsh versions of old hymns and shifted in their pews, choirs and celebrities from all over South Wales came together to acknowledge their struggle.

Many of the congregation, such as 31-year old Cardiff University medical student Allison John, are only alive and well because of their families. The kidney she received in 2006 from her dad David, 60, was the fifth major organ she had replaced. It put her in the record books, with the most major organ transplants for a British woman – she had already had trouble with her liver, heart, and both her lungs.

Five-time transplant recipient Allison John, at home with her dog Rocky

Talking about her experience is gruelling. Just telling the story takes nearly an hour. She said: “I think the only reason I got through it was because I had very strong people around me. My mum and dad are very positive. I had a reason to want to fight.”

Music: Côr Aelwyd y Waun Ddyfal and Alun Rhys-Jenkins.

The service was curated by the charity Kidney Wales. Founded in 1967 to spearhead research into renal (kidney) failure, its team of five full-time staff now run the charity out of an office in Cowbridge Road East, Canton.

Over 1,600 kidneys have already been donated in the UK since 1 April this year, according to statistics by UK Transplant. Yet only around half of those eligible are registered donors, and there are nearly 7,000 people still waiting for a kidney.

Singers from Côr Aelwyd y Waun Ddyfal

Nearly all of them are on dialysis, a lengthy process which takes away a lot of the freedoms of a normal life. A machine is used to perform the vital task of ‘cleaning’ the blood which a diseased kidney cannot do.

Chris Connell, 34, has worked for the charity since he came to Cardiff University to study five years ago. He said: ”As I was about to leave, I got involved with the charity to do a little bit of volunteer work. And before I knew it, I was a full-time member of staff.”

Chris Connell explains more about the charity

The show’s star was Welsh National Opera singer Alun Rhys-Jenkins, who sang Adolphe Adams’s famous carol O Holy Night in his booming tenor voice. The singer, who is studying at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice, picked one song in Welsh and one in English for the evening.

WNO's Alun Rhys-Jenkins sings 'O Holy Night'

He said: “I chose them because they were Christmassy – and everybody loves them. The most important thing of all was that it was for a great cause. It was a great night and thankfully I think they managed to sell quite a lot of tickets as well.”

But the most emotional moment of the night came when two young transplant recipients went up to speak. Robert Edwards, 14, and Lewis Akrill, 15, each had a kidney replaced when they were younger.

Young kidney patients Lewis Akrill (left) and Robert Edwards (right) give a speech at the service

Fifteen-year-old Lewis, from Caerphilly, plays hockey constantly – only because he is not allowed on the rugby pitch. Mum Tracey, 37, gave him one of her kidneys when he was just 10 years old.

She said: “He was sent home from school with stomach pains, but the GP couldn’t see him straight away. It was September 2003. I’m not a neurotic mum, but I decided to follow the receptionist’s advice and take him to A & E.

“When we got there, Lewis was running around the hospital. The pain was gone and I was thinking, ‘I’m wasting their time here’. But then they took him for a scan. They discovered his kidneys had not developed since he was born. As he was growing, they were failing.

“It was like somebody had punched me. Later, Lewis said something that no parent wants their kid to say. He sat with us on the settee and looked at us and said: ‘Am I going to die?’”

Fifteen-year-old Lewis Akrill thanks his mother for a kidney she donated to him five years ago

Mrs Akrill was able to donate a kidney to her son, with help from the charity. He made a full recovery, and two months ago, he even went to do his school work experience at the charity. He said: “It was brilliant. I loved every minute of it.”

But he wants to be a physiotherapist, or a paramedic. He would even like to be a doctor for kidney patients.

“That would be something cool,” he said. “I could tell them exactly what it was like because I have been through it.

“I just tell everyone straight up really. They don’t ask at school any more. But if I make a new friend, I tell them exactly what I have been through.”

We lost and I still don’t know why.

We bossed the game, created the most chances, everyone played well, they had just one good player.

There should have been a penalty when the goalkeeper handled outside the box, but there wasn’t.

I don’t want to blame the referee, however he at fault for at least two of their goals and was an idiot.

All of the Kings, including debutants Ben Wall and Andy, put in a good shift although PJ missed a Luke Tinklin class sitter.

We did get one goal and it was (of course) special.

Jorge Campos Tinklin in goal chipped a defender and, resisting the urge to blast the ball over the bar in a desperate attempt to score, played in Ben.

The lanky Northerner found PJ who, uncharacteristically, couldn’t miss.

Despite the (unjust) defeat we stay in fourth and because we play each team twice have an opportunity to get revenge later in the season.

Next up is league leaders Rosie FC in a 5.00pm kick-off. No problem.

Here is who played: Luke, Mark, PJ, Phil, Frank, Andy, Ben.

In both Alexander and Jenkins, the focus of the articles comes down to the impact of the user. Alexander explains the switch to Web 2.0 more concretely by marking it as a series of changes that helped Web 1.0 to evolve until it needed an upgrade, changes that the audience (users) demanded. And while he lists social networking sites and tagging as the latest innovations in this new change, I was surprised at his tone on blogging. Because blogging and wikis are very much a part of the evolution. But as we discussed blogs earlier in the semester, it is important to note that they serve a very specific person and that is the authors. While some blogs allow reviewers to be interactive, blogs can be edited to suit the administrator’s needs, they do not create unlimited interactivity. In contrast wikis and tags allow everyone to contribute to the meaning of a word, page, post, or article. Ice cream can be tagged as soft serve, yummy, cherries, cones, or white and brown.

Jenkins is not without his contribution to the discussion of the Web 2.0 technology, but his argument focuses on access and the development of video and digital media as spurred on through the creation of the Star Wars trilogy and the fanaticism that followed it. Everyone had access to making videos all of a sudden like the quote on the front page from Francis Coppola, even the fat girl could make a movie. This article’s views reminded me somewhat of Gates’s goals for an advertising scheme by the way that Star Wars ended up marketing for the creation of videos. And videos are huge in digital media now. It’s hard to name a person who hasn’t visited or even spent an afternoon searching youtube for one thing or another.

Kings Arsenal were reduced to just four players on Friday afternoon as they prepared to face Team Choc Ice.

A plaque of knee injuries and withdrawals have left captain Mark Tinklin and livewire striker/keeper Luka Tinklin trawling their contacts for at least one more player.

Arsenal fans James Payne and Deep Dasgupta are off to the Emirates to see the Chelsea game on Sunday and Paul Jenkins is out of town.

Phil Foster is going to Newcastle this weekend while Chris Trewhitt, Dave Foster and Julien Ramsey have all been ruled out with knee injuries.

In fact Dave and Julien could both be out until the New Year.

The raft of withdrawals leaves Kings Arsenal down to just four players at present: Fabricio Mazzola, James Britton, Mark and Luke.

However, Kings Arsenal are confident they’ll be up to their full quota of five players in time for the 5.40pm kick-off on Sunday.

Second place Team Choc Ice lie in wait, a team the Kings battered 11-4 at the end of last season.

Kings Arsenal crushed league leaders Cheung Ki Koks Warriors 6-2 on Sunday night.

The Kings put in a classic counter attacking display and showcased some trademark flowing football on the break.

Cheung Ki Koks Warriors started strongly, but for all their possession rarely threatened Fabricio’s goal and Kings Arsenal, wearing blue bibs, were soon ahead from the penalty spot.

Luke was set to spin away from the last defender only for a hand to shoot out and knock the ball out of his path.

With the penalty awarded Mark stepped forward and calmly knocked it into the bottom corner.

From then on it was all Kings Arsenal as Cheung Ki Koks Warriors just couldn’t get passed an imperious James Britton in defence.

By now Kings Arsenal were raining chances down on the opposition goal and were constantly denied by the post or some lacklustre finishing.

The Warriors simply could not handle Luke’s movement and unpredictability and he almost scored a sensational goal only for the cross bar to stop him celebrating after chipping a defender and the goalkeeper.

Gloucestershire duo James Payne and PJ were combining to devastating effect and the latter finally made it 2-0 from close range.

Kings Arsenal started to stretch away in the second half and James Britton fired in a powerful shot that went straight through the netting.

Luke got a deserved goal when he smashed home a Mark cross from a corner first time on the run and PJ scored his second with a classic shot across the keeper.

A second penalty, this time for a foul in the box, allowed Mark to double his tally for the evening, although this time he put the ball in the other corner.

Fabricio showed some Brazilian flair by tricking his way past some Warriors and almost picked up a goal with a long range strike.

However, once against James Payne failed to hit the back of the net and Phil was a last minute withdrawal because his car wouldn’t start.

Kings Arsenal could have even walked away with a clean sheet only for some typical defensive howlers to gift Cheung Ki Koks Warriors two goals.

The result sees Kings Arsenal climb to third place, level on points with Team Choc Ice and Cheung Ki Koks Warriors, three points back from early leaders, the still unbeaten, Rosie FC.

This weekend we face second place Team Choc Ice in a 5.40pm kick-off.

We crushed them 11-4 when we last met, in one of Kings Arsenal’s greatest ever showings.

Founding members PJ and James Payne have already declared themselves unavailable.

SWAT swarmed the grounds at Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center Sunday as part of an intense

SWAT swarmed the grounds at Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center Sunday as part of an intense three-day training session for emergency medical workers.

Pickaway-Ross is one of few organizations in Ohio to regularly offer tactical EMS training, said program instructor Dr. James Jenkins. The program is offered annually and just finished training its third batch of students.

“It’s training to prepare our EMS providers to be a part of SWAT. We orient them to what SWAT is and to be right there with SWAT if someone goes down,” Jenkins said. “We’re training them in ditch medicine.”

The idea behind the approach is injuries likely to occur when tactical operations are happening will be more serious and life threatening. Traditionally, EMS crews wait at a distance, which translates to delayed treatment. In tactical EMS, paramedics are trained to be in the thick of things so they can respond much quicker and be more effective.

“We’re taking the EMS provider and teaching them to be able to function in the team without getting in the way … They fit in, they know what to do or not to do, and they’re there within seconds. It saves lives,” Jenkins said.

Colerain Township Fire Chief Carl Gearhart has been involved with the program and is set to organize a tactical EMS unit for the county that would be available around the clock at a moment’s notice, similar to the county’s water rescue unit.

“Our goal is to take people not only in our township but from surrounding townships to build a team to have people available 24 hours a day, seven days a week that can assist the sheriff’s department, state patrol and other counties,” Gearhart said. “It’s all about serving the community, being like it states, for public safety.”

Gearhart plans to start getting together a volunteer unit after the first of the year. So far, there are about 15 and 20 volunteers throughout the county trained in tactical EMS, he said.

Ross County Sheriff George Lavender thinks having a tactical EMS unit in Ross County is worth exploring.

“It’s better to be prepared and never need it than to need it and not have it,” he said.

While Chillicothe is not a large city, Lavender explained the area still fights many of the same battles, such as drugs. The sheriff’s office has had paramedics on its task force teams before and has had to utilize them. One time, Lavender said a suspect jumped through a window to escape and benefited from immediate treatment. He said it’s also helpful when there are children at a home where search warrants are being served so the children can be checked over.

Jenkins and paramedic Dean Dixon worked together to develop the program, garnering approval from the state. Dixon relates tactical EMS to military medics who are trained to be on the front lines. While tactical EMS providers don’t typically carry weapons — it depends on the unit and requests of law enforcement — they all have safety gear like members of the SWAT unit and are trained in ways to reach someone injured and still protect themselves.

The program at Pickaway-Ross is designed as more of a basic and intermediate session to provide a good, solid introduction to tactical EMS, Jenkins said. The 28-hour hands-on training course covers a variety of information from an explanation of SWAT to more aggressive treatment methods. Trainees learn about hemorrhage control, treating injured K-9s, tactical self defense and how to spot and work around meth labs.

In the end, students — who are required to attend all training exercises over the three days — take a written exam and are tested on the field before receiving a certificate of completion. Currently, there is no state certification for tactical EMS, making it difficult to track the number of paramedics trained, as well as how many units are active.

However, Jenkins said the state is looking at putting together protocols for tactical teams and setting up a new certification.

Kings Arsenal battled to a hard fought 5-4 win over newly promoted Millennium on Sunday evening.

Millennium went into a shock lead and Kings Arsenal made hard work of leveling the scores before half-time.

The timely arrival of Chris Trewhitt gave Kings Arsenal added impetus through the middle and Kings Arsenal finished the first half the stronger, but let in two slack goals at the start of the second period as Millennium surged ahead.

The reds were creating chances but failed to convert as Mark Tinklin was relegated to the bench after failing to land a successful pass.

With Fabricio unavailable Luke Tinklin went in goal and made some superb saves once he remembered that he was supposed to be keeping the ball out of the net.

Struggling with a knee injury, he had a Roy Carroll moment in the first half, dropping the ball behind him and spinning round to grab it before it crossed the line.

It did, but the referee allowed play to continue.

Kings Arsenal surged forward to get back into the game and it was new-boy Deep Dasgupta, making just his second appearance for the Kings, who got an all important equaliser.

They were soon ahead, but in true Kings Arsenal fashion that lead didn’t last long as some slack defending at a corner allowed Millennium, boosted a couple of debutants, to tie the scores once again.

However, a foul on Mark, who finally managed to get back on, allowed Deep to put a freekick in the danger area that goal line hero Paul Jenkins tapped in.

James Payne also played and may have got one of the goals.

The victory was Kings Arsenal’s first of the winter season and leaves the Reds in fourth place with a goal difference of 0.

Kings Arsenal now have a chance to put a string on of wins together starting with Cheung Ki Koks Warriors next week in a 6.20 kick-off.

Sunday’s match was f0llowed by a hastily arranged friendly against Championship mid-table outfit Imber Milan, which Kings Arsenal ran out convincing winners.

The story of The Aftermath begins with the appearance of a mytho-historic entity known as “The Guest.” The Guest, a genuinely magical child with no name, instigates an apocalyptic catastrophe designed to challenge the people of Earth to justify their own existence on this planet.

Thus, in the wake of the apocalypse, things turn for the worse. The Walden Corporation, a company comparable to our own mega corporation/animation studios, gains power and buys out nearly every major city on Earth. Each city is stripped of its former personality and is transformed into a secure, resort style retreat in which the rich, seeking to escape the bleak and brutal reality of the post-Guest world, pay top dollar for uber-escapist lifestyles. Surrounding neighborhoods and quaint, historic getaways are bulldozed for resources which are used in the construction of dozens of Walden-based chain restaurants and mega-stores. The poor and the resistant are slain without mercy.

In this way, Walden citizens can be shipped around the world via the Dewey Dog Tram, the Flying Squirrel Express, or the Lily Pad Cruiseline from Walden Paris to Wally Washington D.C and onto Porty Pig, Oregon. In each city Waldenites will find the same familiar, comfortable, unthreatening Walden based culture and cartoon imagery. The iconic Walden characters, with Dewey Dog at the forefront, will greet them as they arrive.

The greatest achievement in Walden’s history is the fully automated theme park and resort – Walden Earth. Now former US citizens don’t even need to leave their own backyard to experience “True World Travel!” Walden Earth is comprised of various, distinct areas based on locations world-wide.

Now, Walden Corporation is collapsing and Walden Earth is silent. A transport bus carrying a group of Walden POWs breaks down in the abandoned Walden Earth Transit Center. They soon find that, for them, the desolate, deteriorating theme park is less than welcoming. Walden’s overly-enthusiastic cartoon grin, in its insane neglect, has become murderous. Dewey Dog is coming for them.

Jenkins spoke about her mother, a dairy farm wife with a talent for clever sayings. Jenkins used several of those in her remarks as part of the Profiles of Women in Government Lecture Series, many to describe current plights in government.
“If you want strawberries, don’t plant broccoli,” Jenkins said. “The problem happens when people plant one thing and want to reap another.”

Jenkins said she was for health care reform, just not the program passed through the House. She said after the speech that there was still a while to “play with it,” because the Senate was planning on coming up with its own proposal. The two bills would then meet in conference committee, where representatives from both chambers would hash out the final bill.
Jenkins said she was for legal immigration, but against illegal immigration, a view that she said matched most people in the second district. She also said she was against amnesty, though she added that she felt that would be the direction immigration would be pushed.
“I believe we need to secure the border and give businesses the tools to address this issue,” Jenkins said.
Jenkins ended her remarks by stating that everyone should feel a responsibility to improve the world, and country they live in.
“I’m confident that if we can just plant the right seeds … we can make this place better than we found it,” Jenkins said.

Staff

It’s a boy! And look, there’s a girl, too! Recently, two members of the Transylvania faculty brought new life into the world. Professor of English Kremina Todorova is now the proud mother of her son, Nicholas Todorov Butler, and Professor of Mathematics Kim Jenkins is happily surprised with the arrival of her daughter, Madeline Nicole Jenkins. Both were kind enough to share the stories behind their new bundles of joy.

Kremina Todorova thought having a second child would be quite a stretch. She imagined herself probably having only one child. After all, in her native country, Bulgaria, that was the norm. However, after giving it some thought, Todorova and her husband planned for their second child.

Todorova got to name her firstborn, Elena Todorova Butler, so her husband got to name the second.

“I didn’t particularly like the name Nicholas, but now I love it,” said Todorova.

During her pregnancy, Todorova said that her child went to more drag shows than most people go to in their entire lives. Todorova was photographing drag queens for a project she was working on in collaboration with Professor of Art Kurt Gohde called “Passing.” When Todorova found out it was a boy, she had a running joke with the performers she photographed.

“It’s a little boy! He’s going to come out in drag!” Todorova would exclaim.

Nicholas was born Oct. 12 at 5:25 p.m. He weighed six pounds, six ounces and was 20 inches long.

Todorova said Nicholas is a healthy baby and doing very well so far. She also said big sister Elena loves him very much and constantly gives him kisses.Todorova plans to go on maternity leave next term. Maternity leave means one of two options at Transy. The first is the professor teaches one class, or part time, in winter term and does not return for May term. The second is the professor does not return for winter term and works full time in May term.

Todorova intends to do the first option for the sake of keeping some normalcy and staying in touch with Transy.

Kim Jenkins was almost sure she couldn’t have children. Jenkins said this didn’t make her unhappy. She said she had a wonderfully loving family with her husband and stepdaughter.

Then, she said, “God decided he had a sense of humor,” and Jenkins found herself expecting. Happily surprised, she began planning for the baby’s arrival.

However, even the arrival was unexpected. Jenkins’ water broke while she was in her office on campus.

“It was a shock,” said Jenkins. “She came three weeks early.”

She came so unexpectedly that Jenkins and her husband didn’t have a name for the baby until the day before they left the hospital. Until then, they called her “Baby J” or “Pumpkin” because she was born so close to Halloween.

Madeline Nicole Jenkins was born Oct. 17 at 7:35 a.m, five days after Nicholas. She weighed seven pounds, seven ounces and was 19 inches long.

Jenkins is on leave for three weeks, and then she will be back to finish up the term. Jenkins plans to also go on maternity leave next term. She will be taking off winter term and returning for May term.

Jenkins said in May term, proud big sister Stephanie will babysit Madeline. Stephanie is a first-year at Transylvania.

“She’d be upset if anyone else did it,” said Jenkins. “I think she might know more about babies than I do right now!”

Jenkins said that Madeline is doing well. Most nights both baby and mommy are getting good sleep.

“It’s been fun! Madeline’s been so much fun, and I’m glad my job is flexible to allow for children.”

Congratulations to the both of them!

All-action forward Phil Foster and acrobatic stopper Fabrizio Mazzola are unavailable for selection.

Jorge Campos wannabe Luke Tinklin will play in goal, despite nursing a knee injury, while Mark Tinklin returns from illness to play in attack.

Defensive linchpin Chris Trewhitt is back while there is a welcome return for Deep Dasgupta, assuming he’s not called into work on a Sunday again.

Regular trio James Payne, James Britton and Paul PJ Jenkins complete a strong looking line-up.

Both sides opened the new season with a defeat, but whereas Kings Arsenal were unlucky not to beat the undefeated league champions Millennium went down 6-2 to the inconsistent Team Choc Ice.

The clubs are the last two winners of the Championship and share a record of two wins, two losses and a tie from their last five meetings.

So I have been on a bit of a title kick lately.

Diary, why is it that people are so obsessed with titles? I know I felt the draw to have a title the moment I signed back in after a 9 month absence… I was in Black Rock trying for the Jenkins title within the week! I was like the only one running around without a title on my name… so I went and got one.

The problem with titles, however, is that there is no other real benefit to getting the title other than vanity. And for the most part, the vanity is all self-serving and rarely gratifying beyond the initial achievement, (of course, that is what the whole achievement system is, on a whole, anyways, so I guess this is to be expected).

I have also found that there is a discrepancy between titles as far what you have to do to get them vs. what other people think of you when you display them. Titles seem to fall into different categories, and all seem to exhibit the the “noob vs. leet” tension that is pervasive throughout all MMO’s.

1. Noob
2. Psycho
3. Leets
4. Huh?

This is what I have found, (I don’t personally prescribe to these feelings, this is what I have OBSERVED in other people’s attitudes).

Noob Titles - these are titles that anyone can get if they are a warm body and can roll their face across a keyboard (again, not my opinion). General consensus is that titles like “Jenkins” and ”Explorer” are easy to obtain if you have the patience for them and rarely require any special technica

Psycho Titles – the are titles that you get for, lack of a better term, a psycho player. Titles like “Seeker“, “Loremaster” and “the Insane” fall under this catagory. Usually a vast investment of time is required to gain these titles.

Leet Titles – Titles that require “skills” to obtain.. such as raiding/arena titles . (i.e. “Gladiator“, “Of the Nightfall“).

Huh? Titles - I guess this is where all the “other” titles go… ones that, when you see them, if you didn’t yourself participate in the gaining of the title, have no idea what it stands for or how the person got them… (i.e. realm firsts like “The Celestial Defender” or titles that are no longer available, such as “Hand of A’dal“)

Am I saying titles are bad? Heck no! They are fun to get and do show status/time spent on character, but in the overall view of the game, it isn’t obviously necessary I think it’s just fun to see what other people’s perception are towards them.

Btw, Diary, I achieved the “Crusader” title a few days ago, hence my renewed interest in this topic. Yay me!
