*Books: Vladimir Nabokov’s son Dmitri ignored his father’s dying request and instead of destroying his unfinished work upon his death, he published it. (Somewhat related is this Lolita-inspired coffee table.) On “Original of Laura.” I ask that upon my death, both my unpublished AND published work be destroyed. Thank you all. [3quarks]

*Video: Here’s some video of the Air Sex World championships. It’s both odd and probably not safe for work. And it has nerds with beards. And umbrellas. And a guy named Dick Oxygen. But it’s not as good as it sounds. Weird, I know.

*Nostalgia: For some reason, I love that this incredibly long interview with Vanilla Ice starts off with lyrics from his most famous song. You know, to set the tone. Huh? [mefi]

*Blogging: The format of this new music blog, Left As Rain, is interesting. Setting humility aside for a moment, I think my style would be suited to it. [notcot]

*Art: Olivier Kosta-Théfaine uses a cigarette lighter to burn incredible images into ceilings. I once carved “K-Ball” into a high-school commons wall. Peer pressure. [neatorama]

*Lists: eMusic lists their Top 100 albums of the decade. Wow; The Hold Steady comes in at number two. [spincity]

*Sales: This vending machine sells ideas for $.50. I have been thinking about a similar micro-business: A person would friend me on Facebook and tell me his or her screen names on various social networking sites. I would then examine the person’s digital identity and write up an objective assessment of what his or her spirit object is. [adverlab]

*Meta: I tumblr’d ONE POSSIBLE explanation of my magazine/toilet avatar.

<img title="(L-r) JENNIFER ANISTON stars as Beth and BEN AFFLECK stars as Neil in New Line Cinema’s romantic comedy “He’s Just Not That Into You,” a Warner Bros.

bom filme…
roberta vieira
http://www.hesjustnotthatintoyoumovie.com/

Bradley Cooper–a leading hotterson? APPEARANCE: 4 I: Bradley Cooper is fine, dude! He’s

Bradley Cooper–a leading hotterson?

APPEARANCE: 4

I: Bradley Cooper is fine, dude! He’s so classically gorge with his sexy blondish hair and blue eyes. He’s very California to me, all tan and square-jawed and the like. And I like that he’s kind of been under the radar for a while so he’s fine without being on the cover of every People magazine or whatever. His nonsense with Scarlett Johansson in HJNTIY was almost forgivable he was so fine! I’d give him my number too.

L: I do NOT find Bradley Cooper attractive! He looks fake! I was surprised that Jennifer Connelly and Scar.Jo would fight over him in HJNTIY. He looks too short and preppy for me, and his face is too triangular. But I can see how people would be into his pointy face.

I: Wait a minute, WHAT?? I can’t belee your stern, matter-of-fact tone re: “I do NOT find Bradley Cooper attractive!” With an exclamation and all! OHEMGEE and you get all hot and bothered for Seth Rogen. I’m DYEENG here.

L: LOL – I will never live down Seth Rogen’s 4!

PORTFOLIO: 3

L: Wasn’t he Ben in Wet Hot American Summer? If yes, I approve of that. I want him to do more stuff like that that downplays his looks. Then I might find him more attractive. I definitely give him props for kissing Michael Ian Black.

I: Yes! He had sex with Michael Ian Black in WHAS and it was awesome. He’s buds with MIB and M.Show in real life, man! I think he was in one of their Stella sketches. That’s extra fine because that means he’s foxy AND funny/cool enough to hang out with those dudes. Ugh, I’m like orgasming all over the place. He really needs to take it up a notch with a classic romcom or something to really solidify him as a leading hotterson of 2009-2010.

CHOICES: 3

I: I think it’s inevitable that as his fame grows, he’ll become more sleazy with the ladies! He’s already rumored to be humping Jennifer Aniston, and of course, she didn’t deny it but HE made a John Mayer-esque public statement about how he’s NOT dating Jen.An. Why do dudes feel he need to publicly dismiss her left and right? Anyway, he’s kind of a flooz and has also been rumored to be with Cameron Diaz and Renee Zellweger. Meh. However! He’s from PA and has an English degree from Georgetown. E! Be in my study group, B.Coop!

L: Why are all these dudes hatin’ on J.An? They don’t know shit about fuck. That only loses him points. If he had stood, loud and proud, and screamed, “I love this woman and I don’t care who knows it!” about J.An on the screen at a baseball game, I would find him more attractive.

PERSONALITY: 3

L: Well, since you painted him as a hornball in the last section, I see him roaming the Ultimate Party, searching for young girls to snare with his charms and then tosses their number way post-whoopee, a la Troy Dyer. Those young girls = us! But I refuse to be caught up in his young, California George Clooney ways! Maybe if he brought J. An as his date and was devoted and true to her all night, I would find him more attractive.

I: What if you refused to invite B.Coop and then at the UP, M.Show and MIB are like, “Wait, wait… London didn’t invite B.Coop? What’s up with that?”? And then M.Show and MIB looked at each other and subtly rolled their eyes and nodded toward the door and were like, “We’re outta here!” and dropped their red plastic cups on the floor?? Bradley Cooper can use ME in the boudoir while you’re entertaining the rest of our guests and you’d be none the wiser! I say, let him stay, man.

L: OMG NO! I don’t want Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black scoffing at me for scoffing at Bradley! Okay, fine, you take one for the team and do B.C. while I juggle for the rest of the fine-ass guests.

ROMANTIC POTENTIAL: 3.5

I: Maybe B.Coop denied dating Jen.An because they’re just good friends and he didn’t want to ruin his friendship with her? True, it would be foxier if these dudes said something, “I wish! I’m not that lucky!” when the media claimed they were dating Jen.An and charmed the masses with their humble ways. But still, I think he’d be foxy in bed even if he DID toss my number off the deck as he left my house. I’ll risk it!

L: I can see him being good in bed if you’re into him… Oh, me. I’m going to look at a series of B.Coop pics and try to picture it… Hmm. Okay, he’s not that bad looking when he appears rugged. He’s still too pointy for me. But it’s too late for this assessment! At any rate, I admit he does seem like he’d be a good boyfriend to whoever he’s with.

SUGGESTIONS

L: Look rugged more often. Get dumped by Jennifer Aniston. Have more sex with Michael Ian Black.

I: BWA. I suggest he really play up his leading man potential. Make me swoon!

FINAL GRADE: 16.5/25 B

We are watching the heavens! The Sun entered Sagittarius on November 21st, @ 11:22Pm EST. Sagittari

We are watching the heavens!

The Sun entered Sagittarius on November 21st, @ 11:22Pm EST. Sagittarius will be a relief from the intensity of the last heavenly month of Scorpio.

When Sun is in Sagittarius, our focus goes to creating goals towards our dreams. It is about establishing our freedom whether in relationships, or from material things that tie us down. Sagittarius is an optimistic sign, where we are more prone to putting our worries and fears behind us, “because it will work out”.

Sun in Sagittarius, November 21-December 21st, 2009

The Sun’s transit in Sagittarius this year starts with feeling a heightened responsibility (in your relationships especially) and a sense of sobriety in the otherwise happy-go-lucky sign. This is a good time to start a long term relationship, or anything else long term–go on a health kick!

Emotions will run high this month; thankfully the energy of Sagittarius will inspire a continuous sense of aloofness.

Around early December, the energies are auspicious for taking any form of action–whether that be exercising, or putting any plans into action. We’ll feel an increase in productive energy.

From early to mid-December, it is a great time for expanding your social scope–be more accepting of opportunities to make friends, join groups, or travel. Expect your world to expand! This is also a great time for accumulating wealth; or making babies and spending time with children.

The Sagittarius

People born during this period are typically loud, blunt, aloof, optimistic, friendly, generous, and love to travel. Usually, there is a love for life and a LOLROFLMAO sense of humor. They make wonderful Youtube comedians!

They are blessed with incredible good luck, such as escaping a violent car accident alive, or finding a penny on the sidewalk. Little Sagittarius Timmy once ate lead chips, and he still turned out “kinda alright”.

The Sagittarius is charming and comes on strong when they flirt, thus they easily attract the opposite sex. They are commitment reluctant as they strongly desire their freedom. They need alone time from their lovers, and sometimes that means banging someone else occasionally.

They can be incredibly materialistic.

They are wise and intelligent, but sometimes this isn’t so obvious by the things they say or how they say them. I heard one Sagittarius say, “Animals are the best peoples in the world.” Indeed they are!

A Sagittarius can do exceptionally well in any career they desire, as long as they don’t fall victim to their natural procastination. They may talk about doing great wonderful things, but often don’t follow thru. Get off your lazy ass!

When they DO reach their goals they are often very successful.

If you haven’t seen the 2008 remake of “The Day the Earth Stood Still” and for some reason you still want to, leave now. I’m going to ruin this sonofabitch for you if you continue.

Of course, it deserves to be ruined. Spoiling the ending is all too necessary for the good of movie-renting humankind, because this movie had no ending.

OK, technically, it has an ending. But it’s such a jaw-droppingly stupid one. Such a “what the hell just happened?” one. A complete, “That’s it?” kind of experience.

We spend a couple hours seeing special effects that are, to be honest, pretty damn good.

We see Keanu Reeves in his usual, expressionless mode, but it works perfect here, because he’s an alien in a body constructed to be human…so he is not used to being a human or feeling like a human. So, Keanu’s typical acting weakness, his lack of ability to emote, is actually a strength here.

Jennifer Connelly does a fantastic job of emoting just perfectly and being expressive in all the right ways.

John Cleese is fantastic in his cameo.

Kathy Bates isn’t given nearly enough to do with her role, but she does it well.

But what we end up with is a movie about a collection of alien races who send Klaatu (played by Reeves) to Earth to make the final decision about us. And that decision is…

…remember, I’m going to spoil this for you…

…last chance…

…I mean it…

OK, you’re still here. He is here to push the button on the human race. To save Earth, the aliens figure humans have to go, so that the planet can heal and other life can go on. The notion is that only a tiny fraction of planets in the universe can support complex life, and so they are not willing to spare one species…that is, us…and lose the planet. Essentially, we are seen as a cancer that needs to be removed so that the patient, the Earth, can live.

Actually, as far as concepts go, that ain’t bad. It’s a decent update for our time, since the original version of the film dealt with aliens being mad that we were pursuing nuclear science, and were too immature for it. That’s probably true, but it would be a little late for them to complain about that now, so the environmental theme works better now.

Predictably, after making it clear that he thinks we’re unredeemable as a species, and must be wiped out, he decides after starting a nanotech “plague of high tech locusts” end of the world that hey, because one little kid cries and his stepmom hugs him, we must be OK. So then the rush to reverse Armageddon so that we won’t be wiped out, with some queer comment about, “It will come at a cost. You will have to change” or something like that.

And what changes?

Klaatu turns off our power.

Yeah. That’s the end of the movie. Klaatu returns to his vessel, turns of the nanotech bug swarm, and shuts off every powered device in the world, including wristwatches.

And leaves without a single word.

That’s right. Everything’s shut off (including, presumably, life support machines for patients, heat in places where people will die of hypothermia without it, and so on).

Nobody tells the world why. Nobody says, “OK, this is your last chance. Start from scratch.” Nobody tells the people of the world one damn word about why the power was shut off and what step we need to take…or goals we need to meet…to prevent a return to destroy us.

All that work with the special effects, some pretty good acting overall, an interesting take on the robot Gort this time around, a story that had promise for maybe most of the first 2/3 or 3/4 of the affair…all to get a contrived “I understand you humans now” change of personality from Klaatu, and a head-scratching ending that just left me pissed off more than any other crappy movie ending I’ve ever seen.

I mean, I said to my computer screen: “What kind of useless shitting ending is that?”

I never talk to the screen when I watch a movie.

The 1951 movie shouldn’t have been remade to begin with. But if you’re going to remake it, can’t you at least give us an ending that makes at least some small fraction of sense?

(If there are typos galore in this, I’m not surprised. It’s almost 2 a.m. and I’m headed to bed, and I have no plans to go back and edit this.)

On Halloween, I went to this Halloween party with a friend of mine at her school. A little FYI, we don’t go to the university and we met in high school. Anyway, at the party, I noticed this girl who was dressed up as Sarah from Labyrinth. At first, I didn’t know that she was supposed to be Sarah. So, I went up to her and asked her what she was supposed to be. So, she told me and I got it. Apparently, when she told everybody else who she was supposed to be, no one got it until me. I just found it interesting because apparently Labyrinth isn’t that popular with my generation.

A new era in animated storytelling begins on 9.9.09. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton (The Corpse Bride, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory) and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Nightwatch) join forces to produce wunderkind director Shane Acker’s distinctively original and thrilling tale. 9 stars Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer and Crispin Glover and features the music of Danny Elfman.

When 9 (The Lord of the Ring’s Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them. –© Focus Features

Whilst I impatiently wait for my Christmas pre-order of Pandorum, I thought I should review the highly anticipated ‘9‘, directed by Shane Acker and produced by Tim Burton. Which subsequently brings me to my first point. Many people thought that this was a direct piece of work from Burton, meaning they thought he was directing. Unfortunately that isn’t the case and as a result, many individuals were slightly disappointed by the film primarily due to the shoes which Acker, never in fact had to fill.

It is fair to admit, however that Acker did an amazing job considering ‘9‘ is his first feature-length film in which he played the role of director. Acker, who may be known for his CG animation in ‘Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King‘, took the role on head first and came out with some surprising results. Astonishingly, something that no one truly appreciated was the script, although to be fair, it was not that entirely illustrious and because of that, the actors voices weren’t really appreciated also. On the other hand, 9 proved positive amongst critics for it’s CGI.

The plot, whilst fairly original, lies within a post-apocalyptic world where the only questionable living things are a series of 9, doll-like creatures who are referred to only by number. It’s safe to say that this has hardly be attempted before, with a pretty impressive execution at that, but despite all this, I found the way the film was made less favourable. For a start, even though I severely enjoyed the trailer for ‘9′ I didn’t expect the quality of the CGI of the characters to be as it was. The landscapes and lighting on the other hand, were genius with an impressive amount of detail. After re-watching the film it appeared that the simplified CGI wasn’t so much as a bad thing as it was good, not being constantly distracted from the character profiles, or plot line, or the film score allowed me to focus especially on those things. Whether this was intended or not, I was still moved by the 79 minutes of film.

As I already mentioned the film score, I can say that it is uniquely poignant and similarly nonchalant, as if the score doesn’t need to live up to the film, as if in fact, the other way around. In some ways it’s similar to ‘‘The Dark Knight’s‘ score, in my mind, but during the actions scenes, it’s some of the better compilations I have ever heard; if you can comprehend a mixture of the awesomesauce of ‘Star Wars‘ and some random epic film with an equally representative epic score, then you’ll have a measurement of what I’m referring to. Kudos to Danny Elfman who pulls off yet another amazing soundtrack, only on the action part however, Deborah Lurie was brought in for the more orchestral sounds and her luscious work pulls you in from the start. Admittedly, it did take me re-watches to fully appreciate the entire score, as I do with many of the films I review, I re-watch them to focus on different aspects of its creation. Quality over quantity, right? Overall the film was rather good, however if you’re looking for a Tim Burton experience, this isn’t it.

Dirección: Shane Acker.
Guión: Pamela Pettler.
Voces: Elijah Wood, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer, John C. Reilly, Crispin Glover.

(New Line) Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Justin Long, Ginnifer Goodwin, Kevin Connolly, Bradley Cooper, Scarlett Johansson, Kris Kristofferson, Luis Guzman, Busy Philipps. Directed by Ken Kwapis.

Establishing a relationship has never been more complicated or gut-wrenching as it is in the 21st century. While the ability of the sexes to interpret the signals of the other has remained the same – woefully inadequate – the means for communicating those signals have grown exponentially. As one character sighs in this romantic comedy, it’s now possible to be rejected by seven different technologies. Romeo and Juliet beset by digital dejection in an Internet age.

Gigi (Goodwin) is on a date with Conor (Connolly), a successful realtor. The date seems to be going pretty well, and as they part Gigi anticipates a call from Conor, thinking there might be a real connection between them. So she waits…and she waits…and still the phone refuses to ring.

Anna (Johansson) runs into Ben (Cooper) at a corner grocery, and thinks they’ve formed a connection. The problem is that Ben is married to neurotic Janine (Connelly), and while he promises help with Anna’s singing career, he is troubled by his attraction to her.

Beth (Aniston) and Neil (Affleck) have been together for seven years. While Beth wants commitment and marriage, Neil is averse to the whole idea of marriage. After all, he is committed to her he supports her in every way and loves her completely. Why do they need any further confirmation of a relationship that already exists?

As Gigi comes to the realization that Conor perhaps may not call, she hooks up with Alex (Long), a close friend of Conor who offers her valuable insight as to the ways of men. She begins to view him at first as something of a mentor, but eventually begins to develop romantic feelings towards him. Meanwhile, Conor – who had a previous relationship with Anna, still pines for her. Anna, for her part, is friendly with Conor and in some ways leads him on, but focuses on pursuing Ben, after a conversation with her friend Mary (Barrymore), who coincidentally works at a local weekly as an ad rep, servicing Conor’s advertising account. Meanwhile, Beth and Neil have split up as Beth has come to the conclusion that she and Neil no longer want the same things.

Based on a best-selling self-help book, the movie has an excellent ensemble cast and they perform to expectations. Director Kwapis, a veteran of television and big-screen light comedies, manages the entwined storylines nicely, and manages to give all of the storylines more or less equal attention (with the exception of Barrymore, who also produced the movie).

The viewpoint is distinctly feminine. Most of the male characters embody stereotypical male sins – cheating, commitment-phobia, and objectification, to name a few. However, to be fair, the women have their share of neuroses as well. Janine is a control freak who has an absolute phobia of smoking. In fact, when she finds out about her husband’s infidelity, she is much more irritated about the possibility that he might be smoking behind her back. Gigi is a tightly-wound stalker-in-the-making who is so un-self-confident that is almost desperate for a relationship to work, no matter how self-destructive that relationship might be.

The problem I have is two-fold. First, the situations tend to be terribly cliché; there are few surprises and quite frankly, you can see where each relationship is headed without exception. In that case, the characters should be interesting enough to make the audience want to go along for the ride even though there’s no shock as to where they’re headed. The sad fact is, they’re really not, drawn from cookie-cutter issues. Gigi as a character is particularly hard to relate to as she is just sooooooo annoying, and her chosen man Alex is not much better.

Still, there are laughs to be had, and a few insights as well, albeit none that are terribly new or different. The attractive cast does as good a job as possible given the limitations of the script, so you might not find this a complete waste of time. However, guys be warned; there is precious little examination of what truly motivates men to behave the way they do in relationships; rather, this is more of an excoriation of male vices. Most of the women here don’t fare much better, being painted as needy and neurotic; they are defined by the men they’re with more than the people they are. In that sense, this is much more insidious misogyny than any episode of “Married…With Children” than I can recall.

In fact, there are many far better examinations of the ways and means of 21st century romance than this. You’d be better off seeking them out at your local rental store, online or at your video-on-demand outlet.

WHY RENT THIS: An attractive and talented cast performing really well at times. Some genuinely funny moments, but not many.

WHY RENT SOMETHING ELSE: Cookie-cutter characters populate a script riddled with clichés. Estrogen-laden world view that spares little thought to what really motivates men in favor of pointing out their failings. Goodwin and Long are genuinely annoying.

FAMILY VALUES: Some sexual innuendo going on here and a few heavy make-out sessions, but nothing you wouldn’t see on a TV drama.

TRIVIAL PURSUITS: Greg Behrendt, the author of the book the movie is based on, makes a cameo as a minister at Beth’s sister’s wedding.

NOTABLE DVD EXTRAS: Nothing listed.

FINAL RATING: 4/10

TOMORROW: Up

Filozofálgassunk a párkapcsolatokról!

Ismerős neveket láthatunk a stáblistán. Valahogy minden színész megkapta a hozzá illő tipikus szerepet.

The Miss KG ‘Goldie high-heeled shoes, their glistening golden thick crust of water units, with highly impressive 15 cm heels to match up just right, such a high heel shoe is said to have been little produced.

The most popular shoe big Christian Louboutin, has been very favorite super-high-heeled shoes, his red background section is a star around the world owned and Yves Saint Laurent’s Tribute platform shoes thick crust has become a contemporary classic style, won the Supermodel Kate Moss and actress Dannii Minogue’s love.
Victoria Beckham (Victoria Beckham), Xie Lierkeer (Cheryl Cole) there Dannii (Dannii Minogue) The stars have all loved super-high heels, they are undoubtedly a catalyst for a high fashion trend with the outbreak.

And do not talk about whether we can afford for this trend of a taxi trip to this way of life, there is no doubt that the trend of ultra-high heels have infiltrated into the High Street fashion in the past.

More and more brands to follow Debenhams this season by leading the trend of ultra-high heels, which is the imitation of Star Fan infants due to the needs of consumers.

Debenhams spokesman said: The current trends in this increasingly large. We expect it to become the best-selling styles.

Directed by: Shane Acker

Starring: Christopher Plummer, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly and Elijah Wood

It is amazing what one name can do. In a town like Hollywood successes are often made simply by riding in the back seat of someone else’s career. As the name gets bigger, well so does the expectation and when the name is as big as Tim Burton’s, those expectations have to met each and every time. Flashing the name Tim Burton, who produced the film, here and there may have attracted our attention for a little while, but the basic frame of 9 is so insubstantial that it fails to carry us with it much further than the opening credits.

Based on a 2005 short film of the same name, 9 tells the story of a small rag doll man who comes to life and finds himself one of several similar creations who are struggling to defeat a machine which has been stealing souls. The usual story really; post apocalyptic world, six inch rag doll fighting a twenty foot machine, set in the ruins of our destructive civilisation, with a few all American home truths thrown in for good measure. Given the advantages of modern day graphics, with a century of cinematic history to learn from and build upon and a respectable cast of actors on the bill, you could be forgiven for asking why it is that picking up your bible and turning to David and Goliath is more entertaining than a ten pound trip to your local cinema.

The first issue at hand is the atrocious screenplay written by Pamela Pettler. Stilted, stale, heavy handed, overly emotive, tired, lifeless … the list goes on. Secondly, what may seem on paper to be a talented bunch of acclaimed screen actors manifests as a string of lack lustre voice performances that fail to match the sometimes explosive and climactic nature of the action on screen. The real crux of the problem, though, is a catastrophic identity struggle. With a trailer promising edgy, dynamic action and imaginative futuristic technology, director Shane Acker actually serves up a batch of sentimental, recycled scenarios in a film which is more ‘Bambi meets Stand By Me’ than it is ‘Transformers meets I Am Legend.’

Fortunately there are a few minor points of interest. The animated characterisation of the little rag people is at times quite beautiful. The subtle differences in design between the faces, bodies and the materials used to make them up provide a welcome distraction from the bizarre drivel surrounding them. Also, to be fair, there are a handful of sequences which manage to excite, not least of all an attack from a mechanic pterodactyl like creature. However, by the time 9 finally draws to a close there is little that can be said in its favour. If you are looking for something to watch with your seven year old son, go for it. Otherwise, may I suggest turning to 1 Samuel: 17 with a big wooly jumper and a Cup-a-Soup?

What’s Wrong With Virginia.

Bruce Springsteen pourrait en faire une chanson : Jenny’s back in town !
