ARABIAN PRINCE (N.W.A.)

Saturday 26 September

Oxford Art Factory 9pm

A certified legend of urban dance who evokes passion in hip hop and electro/dance fans around the globe! As a founding member of N.W.A. (with Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, MC Ren and DJ Yella), Arabian Prince participated in the birth of the gangsta rap genre and cut electro classics like ‘Something 2 Dance 2‘, ‘Panic Zone‘ and ‘Dope Man’, plus their first single the title track to the movie Boyz-N-The-Hood and one of the “top 50 greatest albums of all time” (according to Rolling Stone and Billboard magazine), Straight Outta Compton. He left the group after the release of that record due manager Jerry Heller’s “creative accounting” that left the group out of pocket.

As a producer he cut the classic ‘Supersonic‘ for JJ Fad (that was reworked by Fergie in 2006) and a slew of other hits on Dream Team Records and Macola. As Professor X he extends his electro legacy with 12s ‘Saga’ and ‘Statix’ on iconic labels like Techno Kut, Street Dance and more recently Clone. As a solo artist he has released albums such as Brother Arab and Situation Hot, plus the Stone’s Throw anthology of last year Innovative Life.

Arabian Prince is back in 09 – or perhaps he never went away – with a live DJ/MC throwdown that covers his electro rap catalogue with a nod to the past, present and future.

Support: Def Wish Cast, James Dela Cruz (Ex-Avalanches), Stolen Records, tha Fizz, Cassette, Typhonic.

A former member of NWA has filed a lawsuit against Ruthless Records, claiming the company has refuse

A former member of NWA has filed a lawsuit against Ruthless Records, claiming the company has refused to pay royalties, after licensing one of his records to Black Eyed Peas’ member Fergie for use in her hit Hip-Hop song “Fergalicious.”

The Arabian Prince, born Kim Nazel, filed the lawsuit on March 9 in the Supreme Court of the State of New York.

The lawsuit claims that Tomika Wright, Jerry Heller and Ruthless Records authorized the use of his composition “Supersonic” for use in Fergie’s #1 record “Fergalicious,” taken from her sophomore album The Dutchess.

Around 1986, The Arabian Prince formed N.W.A. with Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E, MC Ren, DJ Yella and The D.O.C., while Eazy-E also formed the seminal Gangsta Rap label, Ruthless Records.

During his time with N.W.A., The Arabian Prince authored or co-produced a number of hit records for Ruthless, including seminal tracks like “Straight Outta Compton,” “F*ck The Police,” “Gangsta Gangsta,” “Dopeman,” “Quiet On Tha Set,” “Something 2 Dance 2″ and others.

In 1988, Ruthless released “Supersonic,” which he wrote with four other writers, including the members of J.J. Fad, who performed the original track.

According to the lawsuit Arabian Prince, who owns 20% of the composition, claims that Ruthless “misrepresented that they had authority to license [his] portion of the composition for use in the new composition ‘Fergalicious.’”

He also claims that unbeknownst to him, Ruthless has been collecting royalties from the sales of “Fergalicious,” which has sold almost 3 million copies and set records for digital downloads.

Additionally, The Arabian Prince claims in the lawsuit that despite repeated attempts, Ruthless has yet to compensate him for the tracks he produced for N.W.A.

The Arabian Prince seeks damages for unjust enrichment, tortious interference and breach of contract.

Here are a couple of preview clips from VH1’s new documentary N.W.A: The World’s Most Dangerous Group.

Narrated by Chris Rock, “NWA: The World’s Most Dangerous Group” tells the story of a group of childhood friends from Compton who channeled the rage of the streets through the prism of rap music and pop culture. Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella gave a powerful voice to the late-80’s Compton ghetto that was on the verge of exploding, and in the process scared much of White America. Often misunderstood, NWA’s raging raps about police violence, gang-land terror and drug-fueled shooting sprees gave the ultimate voice to the voiceless.
The doc features new interviews with Ice Cube, DJ Yella, Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Woods-Wright, former manager Jerry Heller, Ice-T, journalist Cheo Coker, and director John Singleton. Supplemented by rarely-seen footage and interviews from the group’s early days, photos, and music, the documentary will show how gangsta rap was born in late 80s Los Angeles, a city torn by drugs and violence…and how a nation grew to fear the music that emerged.

This old-white-guy was hardly visible but his mark on our culture is undeniable. Whether it be launching N.W.A. and Eazy-E with the financial support and industry know-how that produced classic records like 100 Miles and Runnin’, Straight Outta Compton, Niggaz4Life, Eazy-Duz-It, and It’s On 187 (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa or the many disses thrown his way on wax and in video, Jerry Heller has had his hands in some serious sh!t. Kush TV caught him for an quick, yet epic interview, where talks about the Eazy and Dre beef, jabs back at the Dre and Snoop for the Still Dre video, notes 2Pac being murdered on Eazy’s birthday, and discusses cutting the monumental Straight Outta Compton LP for $12,000.

Alltså .. Jag har hållit käften för länge & jag känner verkligen att jag måste bryta tystnaden.

ATK AIK Terror Stockholm….
