It’s another busy week. Good one too. Watched a french film with a camp mate, caught up with Lings who is back from Aust for her holidays, had an awesome Ramen-therapy with Lindy, and dropped by some galleries with Jes, who has changed her nick from Skinny to Sumo, pretty fitting. It’s a great feeling the weekend is here, going to be quite packed, but fully utilizing every weekend is damn right necessary.

It’s three more weeks to the new year. Although the transition between the last second of the year and the very first of the next year is like any other ordinary midnight, but somehow it feels like every record’s going back to null and we’ll all be granted a fresh restart.. Renewal of old hopes for me.. for the absolute better.

I would like to acknowledge the following people for making the, well…following, photographs possible (or what is inside them):

Dad – for telling me they taste JUST LIKE MOM’s a couple years ago, making me persevere to make them again and again. YES.

Chrissy – for the generous lending of your cooling racks — for the very first time I made biberli not using an extra oven rack or overturned dish drying rack. Trav you get thanked just for your association with Chrissy. And your commentary to my life.

Ky – for you generous donation of icing sugar. I needed more BUT yours got me through round one 3 days ago.

My dear Mom — whose heart probably broke when her second daughter did nothing but sit around and watch all of the Christmas baking being done… little did she know my baby blues were suffocating my brain with every last detail for making the softest, sweetest, most deliciously golden brown and delightful Christmas cookie the world will ever have the privilege of recognizing. To you mom, I tip my hat.

Wie die Futurezone berichtet, muss die ÖH-Wahl “wegen fehlerhafter elektronischer Stimmzettel voraussichtlich wiederholt” werden, da die Bundeswahlkommission die Wahl an der Uni Wien aufgehoben hat. Die Uni Salzburg ist auch eventuell betroffen.

Bei der Wahlkommission langten insgesamt 33 Einsprüche gegen die letzte ÖH-Wahl im Frühling 2009 ein (derStandard.at):

Grund für die Wahlaufhebung soll indirekt das bei der ÖH-Wahl 2009 erstmals mögliche E-Voting sein. Am elektronischen Stimmzettel war der Listenname der Jungen Europäischen Studenteninitiative (JES) fehlerhaft, der Liste fehlte das “Europäische”. Zudem fehlten auf dem Internet-Stimmzettel [..] bei allen Fraktionen die Kurzbezeichnungen. [..]

Angefochten haben die Wahl die Grünen Alternativen StudentInnen (GRAS). An allen Universitäten, an denen sie kandidiert haben wurde das Ergebnis aufgrund des E-Voting-Verfahrens und möglicher Bedenken angefochten [..]. Zwei Verfassungsgerichtshofklagen aus dem Umfeld des Ring Freiheitlicher Studenten (RFS) wurden aus formalen Gründen abgelehnt.

I became an auntie this past week… for real! It was awesome. It IS awesome. What a lesson in patience though as we all waited by our respective cell phones to hear the news. I think I was utterly useless for three days as I prayed and wondered and hoped that my dear sister’s (the warrior woman she is) babe would arrive and thus, the wait — her wait — would be over. He’s such a sweetheart, baby Weston, but could being so far away stink any more? Probably not.

I think this lesson of patience and trust is only going to deepen and continue as the weeks or months pass before I get to meet him. Why did I ever leave Cal-gary, I have no idea…

Anyways, cute and perfect doesn’t describe him. From the few photos I’ve seen, I think that little man is a much more handsome heart-stealer than the rest of the guys in the world combined. There is a picture frame I’ve seen that says something like “all of God’s grace in one little face” and the perfect beauty of that baby is the greatest gift of love that I can think of to date that shows that God knows exactly what He’s doing.

I wrote the babe a letter a few months ago (found here) and the only thing I would add to it is: don’t grow up too quickly — since I clearly can’t get there fast enough!

Any ideas on how to get through this time of separation? Please, help me.

The reason we started this blog was to record dreams we’ve been having that may be prophetic. A warning of sorts. Well, among other things!

Recently, I have been working with my Cougar Totem alot. I’ve been more and more connected with him, and he walks with me always. I am now able to pull cougar up, and see through eyes like his. This sounds strange, I’m sure, and it is diffecult to explain, but if you can picture seeing every little movement in an instant down to a blade of grass twitching in the breeze…that is kind of what I mean. Cougar represents the ability to lead, to pounce when the time is right, and to walk with grace. I think the time has come to share all of the feelings Jenn and I have been having about what is going on in the world, and what we are supposed to do about it.

The dreams that I have been having include fire, lots of fire everywhere. Barreness after the fire, and walking and walking with bloody feet. I believe this is a message, but I’m not yet sure of what. Gods know there are a double handful of prohecies about the times we are living in. I believe that those who follow the old ways and walk the old paths live closer to the Earth, and are better able to hear her. Her suffering, her warnings.

I’m including a quick ritual for understanding, to make it a bit easier to understand dreams and signs and omens.

You will need: 1 purple candle, some mugwort, lavender oil.

Take the purple candle into both hands and charge it with your need to see and understand. Speak directly to your Matron Goddess and ask her for the Sight. When your hands tingle with energy, and you have sent that into the candle, annoint the candle with lavender oil, and roll it in the mugwort. Light the candle and say:

“Candle  reveal to me that which I seek.
Great Mother , open my inner eye that I
may truly see.”

Spend some time relaxing into a meditative state. Let your mind wander, and record it’s wanderings in a journal. I find this spell to be most effective during the Dark of the Moon.

Welcome to the 2Wytches blog. Here you will find the spiritual explorations of two witches. Both myself (Jes), and Jenn are long time Pagans, who have a special connection. We met as the result of a spell that I cast a long time ago. We soon realized that the Gods brought us together for a reason.

Both blessed with different abilities from the Goddess, we found we not only complimented each other, but most times we were studying the same things at the same time. We seem to be on the same wavelength even now, though we are a state apart.

The writings here will include our thoughts on this ever-changing world, preparing for whatever may be looming around the corner, and ways to prepare, cope, and grow in our power as sovereign beings. Il lungo viaggio parte con uno dei due super nuovi remix di Armin: BT lo conosciamo da vent’anni, inutile aggiungere altro, e la stessa cosa vale per la storica e intrambontabile voce di Jes Brieden. Prendete il tutto e fate cuocere a fuoco lento dal biondino di Leida, e vi troverete un ottimo pezzo vocal trance, perfetto per un’apertura. Voto: 8

Nic Chagall feat. Jonathan Mendelsonh – This Moment (Prog Mix)

Conosciamo già benissimo questa traccia, in circolazione da diversi mesi, è un mezzo follow-up di Man on The Run, che conferma Nic e i Cosmic gate tra gli uomini migliori di questo 2009. Voto: 8

Julian Vincent feat. Cathy Burton – Here For Me (Mark Otten Re-Dub)

Eccoci alla prima vera novità del disco: Mark Otten è una vecchia volpe del panorama trance, e in questa traccia lo ritroviamo con un vago sapore alla Gareth Emery. Il vocal di Cathy Burton non impressiona granchè, ed è un peccato perchè rende la traccia sostanzialmente interte, senza scopo, un puro e semplice intermezzo. Voto: 6

Espen Gulbrandsen vs. DJ Julian Vincent feat. Maria Nayler – Perfect Sky

Qui invece Julian Vincent funziona decisamente meglio: la voce di Maria Nayler è molto più suadente e attraente, quasi di un sapore vintage, da dance fine anni 90. La base scorre via molto semplicemente e piacevolmente. Certo non è un capolavoro a 5 stelle, ma resta in ogni caso una traccia carina, specie nella parte melodica centrale, molto sognatrice. Voto: 7,5

Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren – Beggin’ You (Armin van Buuren Remix)

Questo è indubbiamente il loro anno: i coniugi Cerf, coadiuvati dall’amicone Shawn Mitiska, ci hanno regalato un’altra perla dopo Man On The Run. Già in partenza la voce di Jaren scioglie qualunque riserva e coinvolge totalmente nella traccia. Se poi ci aggiungiamo il nuovo sound alla Armin, non appena la traccia decolla, beh non so che dire, io la ascolterei per ore e ore di fila. Un voto in più rispetto alla traccia di Bt, semplciemente perchè mi sembra più organica nel complesso. Voto: 9

Daniel Kandi – Venice Beach

Ecco il Kandi che non ti aspetti: solitamente siamo abituati a vederlo pestosissimo uplifting, e invece te lo ritrovi molto più riflessivo e con un sound tipo Super8 & Tab, che rende questa una traccia molto leggera, forse troppo. Bella ma insipida. Voto: 7,5

Gaia – Tuvan (Gareth Emery Remix)

Tra tutte le bombe sfornate da  Gareth quest’anno, questa è forse la meno convincente. Nella sfida dei remix ne esce con le ossa rotte rispetto a quello di Andy Blueman, e francamente non riesco a capire quale schema abbia optato per la traccia: base alla This is That e melodia scoordinata da contorno. Su Gareth, ogni tanto dovrai sbagliare qualcosina anche tu. Voto: 6

Lange & Andy Moor – Stadium Four

Altra traccia pluricelebrata e già ampiamente discussa: totalmente strumentale, ha quel giro melodico dolcissimo e malinconico che ti fa innamorare al primo ascolto. Un remix mi sarebbe piaciuto sentirlo, magari qualcosa di più uplifting. Voto: 8

Activa vs. Chris & Matt Kidd – U.R. (Stoneface & Terminal Remix)

Activa già è un fenomeno di suo, ma spesso le sue tracce peccavano di scarsa originalità. Non è il caso di questa, visto che il tutto è stato reinterpretato dagli inossidabili S&T, che ancora una volta ci hanno confermato di essere molto più grandi come remixer che come producer. Ottima melodia, dolce e sognatrice, per questo pezzo che fa da apripista all’album dell’inglese. Voto: 8

Roger Shah & Signum – Healesville Sanctuary (Roger Shah Mix) (Armin van Buuren Edit)

Shah e Signum assieme? Ero scettico fin da subito su questa collaborazione, e i fatti non mi hanno smentito. due stili troppo differenti, uno balearico e da spiaggia, l’altro cupo e introspettivo. Alla fine risulta che di Shah in questa traccia non vi è praticamente nulla, e non è certo uno dei migliori pezzi di Signum. Sostanzialmente incolore e insapore. Voto: 5,5

RAM – RAMsterdam (Jorn van Deynhoven Remix)

Signore e signori, la bomba finale. Ram, dopo aver abbandonato l’hardtrance, si è unito alla banda dell’Armada, sfornando pezzi di una qualità mostruosa. Ramsterdam è il miglior pezzo della compilation, al pari merito con Beggin’ You. Unica pecca, se così possiamo chiamarla, un’eccessiva somiglianza con Anticipation…ma è proprio voler cercare il pelo nell’uovo. Voto: 9

Ian Betts – False Gods

Potenza totale per questo pezzo, quasi sui livelli Vandit. Buon breakdown centrale (ma nulla di eccezionale), e grande finale energico. In pista può dire parecchio la sua, a casa un po’ meno. Voto: 6,5

tyDi & Dennis Sheperd feat. Marcie – Somehow (Sebastian Brandt Dub Remix)

Grande grande pezzo. Tydi non mi ha mai convinto appieno, ma in questa riedizione curata da Sebastian Brandt (un genio, troppo spesso sottovalutato), riesce a trasmettere davvero grandi e forti emozioni, puramente strumentali e melodiche. Voto: 8

Dakota – Sin City (Rex Mundi Remix)

E si chiude con il buon Schulz. La versione originale, come tutto l’album, non mi ha convinto appieno (non sono un grande fan della progressive), ma questo remix è molto più energico e meno asfittico, fornisce al pezzo una ventata d’aria melodica che lo rende ottimo per concludere appieno la compilation, con forza e potenza. Voto: 7,5

In Conclusione

Una buona compilation live, migliore rispetto all’edizione 2008. Non proprio nuovissima in alcune tracce, ma sicuramente da tenere in considerazione per la proposta complessiva di tracce. Voto: 8

In June, Vanessa George, a female nursery worker in Plymouth childcare centre was arrested for taking pornographic photos of the children in her care. I happened to be in my church office in Plymouth the day after the arrest was made, on the day she appeared for her bail hearing (which she did not get). From there I could see the entrance to the local courthouse and could see and hear the many people, most of whom were upset and disgusted parents, hurling abuse at her secure prison van as she was driven away. Yesterday she appeared, alongside three other people, in court in London charged with child sex abuse. I’m not going to spell out all the sordid details here as they have been written about in the mainline press, but that mobile phones and the internet were involved.

Coming out of this, I heard whilst listening to Radio Five Live (UK news and sport radio station) this morning that politicians are considering banning those who work with children from bringing mobile phones into work. This seems absurd and is obviously just a bit of reactionism.  It may make it more difficult to do what these people have done, but it will not solve the problem. It is akin to putting a sticking plaster on a cancer.

The problem isn’t the use of mobile phones, the problem is that humanity is sinful and is capable of evil things, and this evil comes from right from inside of a person. Banning mobile phones will not stop this evil, the more fundamental solution is to tackle the evil from the inside.

The Bible recognises the problem of human sin as being fundamental and deep down. One suggestion is to cut out of your life the thing that leads to sin. Jesus taught:

If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell. (Mark 9:43-47).

So, if mobile phones are causing you to sin, an application of this might be to cut out the mobile phones from your life. But this would not be the root of the problem. The Bible recognises that the root cause of sin is the human heart. Jesus also said:

“Don’t you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him ‘unclean’? For it doesn’t go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods “clean.”) He went on: “What comes out of a man is what makes him ‘unclean.’ For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man ‘unclean.’ ” (Mark 7:18-23)

It’s no use any of us trying to argue that we have never had evil thoughts, even if we have never acted on them. So, if the root problem is the human heart, are we supposed to cut that out. No, but we do need a heart transplant – so that all the sin and evil is exchanged for something pure. In other words, we need a pure perfect human who is able to deal with all the evil that comes out of humanity. This is whom Jesus claims to be – the one pure perfect human who came from (and was) God who was able to deal with the problem of the evil human heart – by being perfect and pure -  and reunite all humanity with God. With his guidance we are able to slowly see our lives transformed and all the imperfect parts of us be gradually changed.

I pray, of course, for all the children and parents affected by this woman’s action, but also that she will have her impure and evil heart transformed by a good and loving God.

It was a great surprise that Armin debuted his remix on his “A State Of Trance Show.” His remix is also on his Universal Religion CD, which is available on Itunes.
