The lovely and talented Pia Reyes, Miss November 1988, was the first Filipino model to appear in Playboy.

“I am an ethnic jumble,” says Pia Reyes. … “My parents had their Filipino friends — my Mom was always cooking this smelly fish — but I grew up like a white suburban kid. I played lacrosse, basketball and tennis. (“Thrilla from Manila,” Playboy, November 1988)

They called her article, “Thrilla From Manila,” but actually she grew up in Havertown, Pennsylvania. In case you don’t get the title (which makes you absolutely no son of mine), it is a reference to the third and final fight between heavyweight boxers Cassius “Muhammad Ali” Clay and Joe Frazier for the title of Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World, which took place in the Philippines on October 2, 1975.

The fight finally brought to a conclusion a bitter rivalry that had been going since 1971, that for my money is one of the best stories in the history of sports (where is its movie, Hollywood???). This one’s got it all, guys: draft-dodging, personal jealousies, the backdrop of major historical events, the freaking President getting involved, even. And through it all, two very different but very contentious personalities, Frazier and Ali, duking it out verbally and physically, in the press and in pre-fights. In the Thrilla in Manila, they went fourteen grueling, brutal rounds, both fighting to the point of almost total physical exhaustion before boxing official Eddie Futch declared Ali the victor (he said at the time it was to spare Frazier’s life, although really either could have gone).

Frazier protested stopping the fight, shouting “I want him boss,” and trying to get Futch to change his mind.

Futch simply replied, “It’s all over. No one will forget what you did here today”, and signaled to the referee to end the bout. Ali was therefore declared the victor.

He would later claim that this was the closest to dying he had ever been, and also stated, “Joe Frazier, I’ll tell the world right now, brings out the best in me. I’m gonna tell ya, that’s one helluva man, and God bless him.”

In a brief post-fight interview with one of the commentators, Ali announced, “He is the greatest fighter of all times, next to me.” (the wiki)

Do you even understand how major all of that is? Boxing is not as violent as you think, and it’s not always just big fat guys hugging (I always say, “Get a room or start punching”), not when you have two men in the ring as skilled as Frazier and the Greatest. Though you seldom see it at the heavyweight level, you see it more often with middle and welter (not bantam as much cause they’re so quick it’s like the cockfight from which their category’s name comes), it’s a graceful and carefully plotted series of moves, like a bloody ballet, it’s like … like art. It’s a dance. And you have these two combatants who are so equally matched that they are like hell-soul-mates, made to fight each other. That’s just, it’s just — like… god… oh, man, I honestly get misty just thinking about that event. That is some great motherfucking sports right there. I wish I had been born to see it firsthand, but I’ve watched clips of it on ESPN classic. (Boy, I miss having that) Le sigh.

As an epilogue, this story gets even better, in my opinion, because dig this: In June of 2001, guess who met for a grudge match on the Thrilla in Manila fight? Their freaking daughters. The fight was re-enacted, sort of, in New York by Laila “She Bee Stingin’” Ali and Jackie “Sister Smoke” Frazier-Lyde in what the press called Ali/Frazier IV. Laila, sixteen years younger than Jackie and with a little more training under her belt, took it in eight. But I love that both of them went for it! What a great story.

Finally, dig the Jessica Rabbit cover! God bless ya, Roger Rabbit and all of 1988. And to Pia Reyes, about whom this entry is not even at all remotely concerned, sorry. It’s not your fault that I think boxing is more interesting than whatever your little turn-ons and ambitions were. I feel kind of badly now. How about this? I will try to make it up to you another day, I swar to gar. You will get more attention from me later. Unless I forget.

Hombres y “Dibus”

Cuando la premisa de una historia es brillante, lo más importante está hecho. Es cierto que el desarrollo puede ser peor o mejor, pero por lo menos, se ha plantado una buena semilla. Pensé en esto después de ver Who framed Roger Rabbit (Robert Zemeckis, 1988). El punto de partida es Los Ángeles, California. Pero con algunas diferencias: porque hay hombres, que trabajan en Hollywood, y “dibus” -¡sí, dibujos animados!- que trabajan, claro está, en Toontown (“dibullywood”, en la traducción española).

El desarrollo posterior de la historia es discutible, aunque hay que reconocerle la virtud de saber retorcer y adaptar las convenciones propias del cine policíaco, de intriga o incluso del thriller, a un género (¿o es sólo una técnica?) hasta entonces inexistente: el mixto de animación e imagen real. Eso es obra del guionista Jeffrey Price (conocido por su colaboración en otros títulos menos honrosos): aquí queda su tercer borrador.

Y una palabra para la técnica: es de reconocer un trabajo sensacional de animación; y más aún de interpretación. Aquí, un vídeo que lo explica de maravilla:

The character is “hot” because she’s got that fire to her. She snaps back. And men love her because she’s in touch with her sexuality and femininity. The men in the office can play with her a little bit. They can tease her, and she’s not going to be in the bathroom crying later.

In the season two episode “Maiden form” each secretary is categorized as either a Marilyn Monroe or a Jackie Kennedy as a campaign for Playtex, what kind of woman is Holloway; Joan is really a Marilyn.

Dopo aver avuto modo di dare un occhio alla televisione analogica spagnola, mi sembra arrivato il momento di condividere con i fratelli dello stato al 79° posto per libertà di stampa la situazione geopolitica delle proprietà delle reti televisive nella penisola iberica.

Come nella patria delle veline, ci sono 6 network che trasmettono su tutto il territorio dello stato spagnolo (“nazionale” non si può dire che si offendono), oltre alle reti locali, comunitarie, in lingua non castigliana, e così via (per dire, c’è Telemadrid – che nella più sana tradizione nazional-popolar-socialista, è pubblica).

Di queste sei, due sono pubbliche, della Televisión Española, La 1 e La 2. Nella uno c’è giusto un po’ più di spazzatura che nella due, la quale si atteggia a culturare (un po’ come la mamma Rai che educava le masse proletarie).

Poi c’è Antenna 3, che si è specializzata in serie e soap, i cui proprietari sono società e  industriali più o meno spagnole.

A seguire, Canal Cuatro, che appartiene allo stesso gruppo del quotidiano El País.

Telecinco, che -manco a dirsi- è di Berlusconi (il quale, comunque, possiede Endemol, vorrei ricordare).

Infine, l’ultima arrivata, La Sexta, una telivisione ggiovane ed irriverente, a cui ovviamente Telecinco ha subito fatto causa e ora questi -che si divertivano un sacco a prendere in giro i programmi televisivi delle altre emittenti, un po’ alla Paperissima e Striscia la Notizia – o più di recente, le Iene- non possono più ritrasmettere spezzoni di Telecinco. Così va la vita.

La Sexta tra l’altro ha a che vedere con tutto un qual certo bordello che sta passando qui in Spagna nei rapporti tra gruppi editoriali e politica. Negli ultimi anni sono apparsi sul mercato una serie di soggetti (La Sexta, il quotidiano Público) che hanno iniziato a fare concorrenza “da sinistra“al blocco economico che tradizionalmente faceva capo al PSOE (o viceversa): El País e Canal Cuatro e complici. I dettagli bene non li so, però a parte l’erosione economica che brucia, questi qua hanno iniziato anche a leccare il culo meglio degli altri, o qualcosa del genere, insomma sono finiti un uno strano meccanismo in cui El País e compagnia bella hanno scaricato PSOE e gli amici degli amici. Attualmente pare ci sia una certa acritudine tra il partito socialista obrero ed il quotidiano amichetto di seghe di Repubblica, non so chi ha tradito chi, forse è gelosia, forse sono i soldi, forse è solo sesso.

Chi ha incastrato Roger Rabbit nei miei ricordi di infanzia è associato indelebilmente con la vigilia di Natale. Per una strana legge cosmica della tivù spazzatura, è stato trasmesso quel particolare giorno per circa 15 milioni di anni.

Todo el mundo conoce a Roger Rabbit, y a su despampanante esposa Jessica Rabbit (¿he oído un “roaaaarrr”, y varios golpes en una mesa?), pero no muchos conocen los brillantes cortos que se hicieron después de la película. Hoy voy a hablar de “Roller Coaster Rabbit”, que es mi favorito. Fue el 2º corto de este famoso conejo con tirantes, y vio la luz en 1990.

Todo comienza cuando Roger Rabbitt entra en un parque de atracciones, empujando el carrito del adorable (ejem) bebé Herman. Su madre que les acompaña (al que sólo se le ven sus piernas, y sus zapatos de tacón de color blanco), observa a lo lejos, a una adivina (con el aspecto de La Vaca Clarabella, ¡a ver si alguien ha pillado está referencia!)..así que decide ir hacía allí, y dejar a Bebé Herman al cuidado del conejo. Todo va bien, hasta que de repente..sale volando el globo del adorable Herman, así que (como buen conejo de dibujos animados) Roger sale a buscarlo, pero Herman, decide salirse de su carrito, y adentrarse en el maravilloso mundo de las atracciones..Y ocurre, lo siguiente:

¡Aventuras por doquier, amigos! Este corto es totalmente demencial, y hay un montón de referencias a numerosos personajes animados (muchos escondidos, pero otros, como el bueno de Droopy, se dejan ver). Hay momentos totalmente hilarantes (como ese en el que Roger encuentra una foto de la exuberante Jessica Rabbit, en el carrito del bebé Herman). Y sí. La secuencia de la montaña rusa, es FANTÁSTICA. Es de una calidad casi apabullante, e iguala el majestuoso trabajo del equipo de animación de Richard Williams en la película. “¿Quién dirigió esto?”, diréis. Pues si te has fijado en los títulos de crédito iniciales, lo sabrás (¡mirar, si hasta aparece el nombre de un tal “Steven Spielberg”!) pero si has preferido ignorar ese detalle, y concentrarte en ese globo de color rojo que aparece en pantalla, pues te diré que el señor que ha dirigido esto es Rob Minkoff (el director de “El Rey León”). “Roller Coaster Rabbit” fue escrita (entre otros) por gente como Patrick A. Ventura (si os da por mirar sus trabajos en el “What a Cartoon!”, veréis la gran influencia que ha tenido Tex Avery, en este animador), o Bill Kopp (creador de “Eek, el gato”, y que trabajó en algunos de los primeros cortos en el extinto “Show de Tracey Ullman”, de Los Simpsons. Sí, de cuando la familia amarilla tenía ese aspecto tan..¿bizarro?).

Todo esto fue un encargo de la Disney a los productores de “Roger Rabbit”. Robert Zemeckis, no tuvo nada que ver con ellas, y se hicieron hasta un total de 3 (que se incluyen en el DVD de la película). Son una puta maravilla. Hay una cantidad escandalosamente enorme de gags por minuto, y aún (con los añitos que tengo) me siguen haciendo gracia. Esa es la verdadera esencia de un dibujo animado: Que provoqué risas, o emoción, con los gestos de cada uno de los personajes (es IMPOSIBLE no reírte, con las caras que pone el pobre Roger Rabbit).

O filme Uma Cilada Para Roger Rabbit de 1988 parece que terá a dupla de roteiristas Jeffrey Price e Peter Seaman de volta ao mundo hibrido de desenhos animados e humanos.

No primeiro filme o elenco live-action era formado por Bob Hoskins como Eddie Valiant, Christopher Lloyd como Juiz Doom e Joanna Cassidy como Dolores. As vozes das personagens animadas ficaram por conta de Charles Fleischer (Roger Rabbit), Kathleen (Jessica Rabbit) e Lou Hirsch (Baby Herman).

No Brasil o dublador do coelho amalucado ficou a cargo de Garcia Jr. – que não perdeu em nada para o original.

Perché per quanto adori essere l’esile e cenerentolosa Pretty Woman imparruccata, oppure la tata Francesca che porta sole e amore in buie dimore, o il Piccolo Lord che elargisce sorrisi in villaggi che navigano nel fango: in realtà quello che sono, purtroppo, non lo so. Lo stupendo uomo che è stato al mio fianco in quest’avventura lusitana, capì al volo: non era amore, ma un imponente martello. E frantumammo il muro, di quella stanza senza finestre: entrò la luce. A striptease would be the last thing I’d expect to witness at a comic book convention but I was in for a surprise at the Armageddon Expo. A Bad Lady performed a burlesque routine for all the closet Jessica Rabbit fans in attendance and boy did it get the girls in the crowd excited!

This time Bart Simpson’s really gonna get his ass kicked at school. The latest reason? His Mom, Marge Simpson, has just sold out and is posing nude for the cover and centerfold of this month’s Playboy Magazine.

In a seemingly last-ditch attempt to attract younger readers, Playboy, having seen its circulation shrink over 17% – over a half million readers – in the last few years, hopes that a naked drawing of America’s favorite animated MILF will be the leg up they need to put them back on top.

But in an age of free internet porn around every corner, will cartoon boobs & bush be enough?

After more than a half century featuring women like Marilyn Monroe, Cindy Crawford and the Girls of Hooters on its cover, Playboy has for the first time given the spot to a cartoon character.

Scott Flanders (presumably no relation to the Simpson’s neighbor Ned Flanders), the recently-hired chief executive of Playboy Enterprises, said “the cover and centerfold was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. It had never been done, and we thought it would be kind of hip, cool and unusual.”

And the magazine is giving the star of “The Simpsons” the star treatment, complete with a data sheet, an interview and a 2-page centerfold.

The magazine’s editorial director, James Jellinek, won’t say exactly how much of Marge will show in the November edition – that hits newsstands tomorrow Oct. 16 – or whether she lets that big pile of blue hair down. But, he said, “It’s very, very racy.”

But he stressed that the mother of three – the youngest a baby, by the way – has a lot to be proud of.

“She is a stunning example of the cartoon form,” he said at the magazine’s headquarters in Chicago, appearing both pleased and surprised at the words coming out of his mouth.

They’re apparently betting on readers dying to know if the carpet matches the drapes, if it’s hardwood floors, or is it just a Brazilian wax with a little blue triangle? Personally, I will see your Lois Griffin, and raise you a Jessica Rabbit! Giggity, Giggity!

For Playboy, which has seen its circulation slip from 3.15 million to 2.6 million since 2006, putting Marge on the cover was designed to attract younger readers to a magazine where the median age of readers is 35, while not alienating older readers.

“We knew that this would really appeal to the 20-something crowd,” said Playboy spokeswoman Theresa Hennessey.

The magazine also hopes to turn the November issue into a collectors’ item by featuring Marge, sitting on a chair in the shape of the iconic Playboy bunny, on the cover of only the magazines sold in newsstands. Subscribers get a more traditional model on the cover.

“It’s so rare in today’s digital age where you have the opportunity to send people to the newsstand to pick something up,” Jellinek said.

Playboy even convinced 7-Eleven to carry the magazine in its 1,200 corporate-owned stores, something the company has only done once before in more than 20 years.

“We love Marge,” said 7-Eleven spokesman Margaret Chabris.

For those who do collect the magazine – and they’re out there – the cover will bring to mind another first for the magazine that occurred in 1971 when a black woman appeared on the cover in exactly the same pose and, like Marge, smiling under an impressive head of hair.

“We knew it was something all of our readers would get a kick out of,” said Hennessey.

Jellinek said putting Marge on the cover, while unusual, made perfect sense. For one thing, the cover celebrates the 20th anniversary of the TV show. Further, he said there was an episode in which “Marge bears all,” which suggested that she, or at least the people who drew her, would be comfortable with the Playboy treatment.

Perhaps most important, the idea seemed like a good one to the magazine’s founder, Hugh Hefner.

“He’s a huge ‘Simpsons’ fan,” said Jellinek. “He’s been on ‘The Simpsons.’”

We here at ALL THINGS PORN are still waiting for the Judy Jetson sex tapes to be released, but that one could be tied up in court for years!

Yeah, Marge Simpson is on the cover of Playboy Magazine … does anyone else think something is wrong with this? Yeah, exactly … Lois from Family Guy has a much better body!

I took to twitter last night and started tweeting about the hottest female cartoon characters … yeah, yeah, yeah, don’t judge me [LMAO]. Funny enough, other folks started joining in. I will pause (no seacrest) from throat chopping and give you my 1-5 best female cartoon bodies of all time, OF ALL TIME!

1. Jessica Rabbit (Who Framed Roger Rabbit?): SELF EXPLANATORY!

2. Lois Griffin (Family Guy): She’s a straight CILF [LMAOOOOOO].

3. Marge Simpson (The Simpsons): She’s been holding it down for 20 years. While all the other female cartoon characters are rocking the hair down, Marge makes big hair look sexy.

4. Velma Dinkley (Scooby Doo): Don’t let that sweater, bowl cut and glasses fool you. Those are the female cartoon characters you need to look out for [LOL].

5. Betty Boop: She’s a classic! She’s been knocking it out in cartoon land for ages! I never thought she had the best face but definitely has the body.

Marge Simpson will be featured on the cover of the November issue of Playboy, out on Oct. 16.

But cool your jets, man. According to the Associated Press:

“Marge isn’t going to bare all, though, as the magazine says there will only be “implied nudity” in the 3-page pictorial.
New CEO Scott Flanders says the idea is to attract readers in their 20s to a magazine where the average reader’s age is 35.”

First, let’s take a moment to appreciate the irony of the fact that the CEO’s last name is Flanders. How awesome is that?

Second, what exactly is “implied nudity”? Is this anything like the “sidal” nudity in ”Rochelle, Rochelle”?

But mostly I just wonder who this is supposed to appeal to. Are there that many 20-somethings sitting around wondering what Marge Simpson looks like in the (implied) buff?

Personally, I just find the whole thing kind of silly.

(Note to Flanders: Call me when the Betty/Veronica or Jessica Rabbit issue hits newsstands.)

Selon l’article du site showbizz.net, Marge “poserait” en tenue légère dans une revue qui contiendrait quand même de “vraies” femmes… Je sais qu’elle adore jouer la coquette avec son Homer dans la série mais…n’est-ce pas un peu déviant de présenter un personnage de dessin animé dans une revue pour adulte?

Personnellement, j’aurais préféré un spécial complet sur les héroines sexy de BD… Une sorte de revue hors-série et humoristique qui intéresserait les amateurs de Jessica Rabbit, Jean Grey ou bien de Wonder Woman!!!

J’imagine encore le jeune de 8 ans qui regarde la revue dans le dépanneur en pensant que c’est un spécial sur son émission préférée… “Maman! Comment ça qu’il y a une madame toute nue dans la revue des Simpsons???“

Io ho sempre avuto un debole per le atmosfere da noir: i trenchcoat, le notti troppo lunghe e solitarie e piovose e le storie impossibili con donne che alla fine dei conti non mi meritano e problemi ed enigmi insolubili e tutta quella roba da film di Humphrey Bogart. Se volete conquistarmi, uno dei modi migliori è atteggiarsi a femme fatale (non troppo, il giusto per divertirsi) o passare una domenica piovosa con me a guardare Il Falco Maltese o Casablanca.

Questo è Nighthawks, di Hopper, il mio quadro preferito. "Come fai ad avere un quadro preferito?" chiederete voi. Beh, quando ce l'hai te ne accorgi, come l'amore. Il quadro sta a Chitown, l'amore non so.

Una cosa che non può assolutamente mancare in una storia noir che si rispetti è uno spettacolo di strip tease con ragazze agghindate da pin-up ed un presentatore vestito alla moda degli anni trenta che fa cabaret e racconta barzellette sui preti pedofili e canta roba italoamericana. Quando ChiChi mi ha proposto di andare a vedere uno di questi spettacoli nell’East Village ho accettato senza battere ciglio. Non tanto per le ragazze che si spogliano, quanto per il contesto rilassato e divertente e l’atteggiamento realmente burlesque. Tipo che si rideva e c’era gente tranquilla e ggiovane, a parte un ciccione sudato eccitato in prima fila. Ma quelli ci sono sempre, anche in tv ed a dirigere il Foglio, noto periodico di carta igienica.

That's Amore era la canzone preferita di mio nonno, che era decisamente un figo. Lui è emigrato un po' come me per fare l'intern a Londra negli anni sessanta e sono sicuro che ora sarebbe orgoglioso di me. Ogni volta che la sento mi commuovo un po' :°)

No, veramente: la gente li (performers e pubblico) era tutta gggiovane e si vedeva che stava li per divertirsi e non per fare i soldi. C’era anche una lotteria di roba buffa, tipo un babydoll di Victoria’s Secret, ciglia finte e brillantini ed un pacchetto con un film di zombie, popcorn al microonde e jelly beans. Non ho vinto. Peccato, adoro i film di zombie : (

Le ragazze erano tutte un po’ pienotte, alla moda degli anni cinquanta o dei troppi hamburger, tuttavia compensavano abbondantemente con lo stile ed il non prendersi troppo sul serio, due qualità che apprezzo tantissimo nella gente. Senza autoironia non si va da nessuna parte : )

Non c'è bisogno di aver fisici scultorei per potersi mettere in mostra: un bel sorriso ed un po' di attitudine sono spesso molto più importanti di un six-pack ed anni di pilates. Stop worrying about your bottom and enjoy yourself : )

Durante la mia vita ho conosciuto gente di tutti i tipi ed ho sempre trovato importante stare a sentire cosa la gente ha da dirti e non perdere occasione per manifestare il mio apprezzamento quando qualcosa mi colpisce o mi piace, così ho finito per conoscere gente in giri assortiti ed imparare un sacco di cose che altrimenti non avrei mai scoperto. Oggi non ho imparato molto a dirla tutta, e non ho fatto molte amicizie, però ho scoperto che c’è tutto un giro di gente simpatica che si diverte a fare Jessica Rabbit e voglio saperne di più. Qualcuna delle mie lettrici è nel giro del Burlesque? Jilla maybe?

Le ragazze erano tutte molto simpatiche e nessuna è rimasta veramente nuda. La cosa carina era proprio l'atteggiamento divertito e divertente. Take it easy : )

La settimana prossima vediamo di alzare il tiro e di infilarci ad una festa fetish, sempre se riesco a prepararmi un accettabile abbigliamento cyberpunk. Pensavo di fare i finti innesti neurali alla tempia e di cercare qualcosa tipo un finto braccio meccanico in un negozio di costumi, però potrebbe essere complicato. Il bello di New York è che puoi andare in giro conciato in maniere improponibili ed è comunque accettabile ed accettato. Un po’ come la tv italiana : )
