As bagels go, is there really any other kind? Or any kind more Jewish? I think not. According to some, the everything bagel has literally, everything you would ever want to put on a bagel. So how about putting it on things other than bagels? Well, now you can, thanks to Bagel Spice.

I, for one, am totally sold! While the Jew in me loves, loves, loves bagels, I’ve kinda sworn them off since I read they are nearly 20 times your daily recommended bread serving (hmmm, maybe that’s why I need a nap after…). But just think of how great some fried eggs would taste with Bagel Spice on them! Just like an egg and bagel sandwich, without the bagel!

It’s hard to feel it in your regular job, but when I was working in the Jewish schools there was a certain feeling in the air.  Yes, part of it is that feeling that spring is coming.  But it’s also because the Month of Adar is coming.  The Sages tell us “When Adar comes in, increase in happiness.”  It just happens to be the month that Purim falls into, but besides that there’s something about the month that engenders that feeling.

Happiness in the Jewish conception can be represented by a slew of words with different nuances.  The word used here is simcha.  Simcha is better translated as peace of mind and content.  It’s not excitement; it’s just an overall feeling of serenity is what I would describe it.  I couldn’t tell anyone to be wowed by a holiday or a month.  But I can certainly advise you to take a day in the next month, sit, relax, and look at what’s going right in your life.  It will change your perspective afterward, and make your thought processes a bit clearer.  And the fact spring is around the corner doesn’t hurt either.

For those of you not familiar with West Point Lingo, WooPoo U, was another way that Cadets would refer to their Alma Matter when trying to be inconspicuous amongst the civilian population.  Believe it or not, when you live in such an environment 24/7, sometimes that is the last thing you want to talk about when you leave the gates of West Point.

Interestingly enough, here I am going on 18 years since throwing up my hat on Graduation Day and I am still defined by that experience and constantly being asked to share about what life was like at West Point as a Jewish Cadet.  We are just coming off of the week of reading the Torah Portion of Yisro which describes what is considered THE defining moment of the Jewish People–The receiving of the Ten Commandments at Mt. Sinai.  Since that defining moment, we have been retelling the story of leaving Egypt and receiving the Torah at Mt. Sinai and recounting those defining moments in our daily prayers, around the Passover table with family, and with our various communities in which we live.

 As one of perhaps 800 or so Jews to have Graduated from West Point, as much as I have tried to see or act differently in the past, I have come to realize that West Point was, is,  and will always be one of my Defining moments as a Jew.  This Blog is geared toward synthesizing those lessons learned at West Point with those lessons from The Torah and to unite those who come to interact with this Blog (woopoojew.wordpress.com) with an appreciation of both.  I look forward to walking that path together!

Friday night I watched BBC News reporting from Jerusalem. Not surprisingly the London based news major sounded like a copy-cat of Al Jazeera, or Iranian «Ayatollah-TV». The viewers got a fresh message that made Israel look more and more like the «evil Zionist regime that is the stumbling block to World peace».

The BBC-reporter had the following messages to BBC viewers all over the World.

1. Jews who live in East Jerualem are Jewish settlers, in occupied East Jerusalem.

2. To call Jerusalem the  City of David is based on a 3.000 year old legend of a king called David living here.

3. The state of Israel use archeological work as a cover up to delete all proof of the Arabic heritage of Jerusalem.

4. The Jews are funidng archeological work in occupied East Jerusalem, that might damage historical Islamic sites, in and around the Temple Mount.

All this anti-Jewish propaganda was published without any representative for the state of Israel given any chance to defend the truth about the sovereign capital of Israel.

This kind of biast reporting is not only bad journalism, that would fail any student during their exam. Its also evil to its core. Because its the same message that comes out from all kinds of web-sites runned by Radical Islam, and their terrorist networks.

BBC ignors the fact that London occupied Jewish properties in Jerusalem from 1917 to 1948.  Before 1967 these properties were confiscated by the Kingdom of Jordan during a brief Arabic occupation.

Today the city of Jerusalem is liberated and united.

BBC broadcasts Islamic lies about Jerusalem and the Jewish people.

I have not seen the film for which I provided a clip from YouTube below but it looks very good.  I think we should actually put God on trial in a court and hold him accountable if he is found guilty of the evil he proudly claims.  We should also have a scientific study were all evidence for God is presented, all evidence that demonstrates he is not likely is presented, the evidence is tested and the results validated and then that paper should be published.

If we perform the above two activities, in an objective manner, we will prove in the first issue that if God was real and the Bible the basis of the character of that God providing an account of what he has done, what he is still doing and what he plans to do, he would be given the death penalty and rank as the most vile and immoral creature our human minds could imagine or create.  He would rank above Hitler and Satan himself.

On the second item we would find that without a doubt, that God is conclusively not real and we should teach that in our schools.  Even God provides what a test should be for a God and therefore it is allowed to test him and it is allowed to show if he is true or false and since God provides a guideline for testing if a God is real or not, it must also be allowed as one of the test and for the Christian, it may be the only test they accept but again, their God will not pass.

After we finish both of the above, we must teach our kids about the superstition and that horrors it has caused all of humanity.  The suffering, the death, they torturing and the promise of something even more horrible if we don’t believe like other Christians tell us we must.

Actually, in our schools we should use the test for God as an example of a true scientific method of evaluating evidence to determine what is true or what is not.  That would be a great test that I am sure Christian will not mind in our science classes, right.  We can prove to our kids if your God is true or false and maybe our kids will not be so ignorant in future generations.

Joseph Stalin and Mao Tse-tung were the most ruthless killers of their own people in the 20th Century, and perhaps in the entire history of mankind.  They were responsible for the world’s deadliest holocausts—or the mass destruction of human beings—yet their victims have never been identified or honored.  It is time for the silent voices of those who died to be heard, and for these human tragedies of epic proportions to be recognized fully.

The famous Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal once spoke about the duty owed by survivors of the Nazi Holocaust to Jews and non-Jews alike to insure that other holocausts did not occur again, and of course he was correct.  Memorials have been erected to those who died at the hands of Adolf Hitler’s thugs.  However, those noncombatants who were killed by Japan prior to and during World War II, and by the Khmer Rouge under Pol Pot in Cambodia, and in Africa and elsewhere are forgotten.

Saddam Hussein’s brutality with respect to the Kurds and Iranians, and those Kuwaitis whose fate has only been determined recently in shallow Iraqi graves, pales beside that of Stalin who was Hussein’s hero.  Aside from ordering the killing of those in the Soviet hierarchy, it is estimated that Stalin was responsible for the deaths of more than 30 million men, women and children—his own countrymen—including millions during the collectivization of the Soviet farms in the 1930s.

History has focused on Hitler’s rise to power during that period, and his atrocities in the Nazi death camps and on the battlefields of World War II.  Memorials have been erected to the fallen of many nations that brought an end to his cherished dream of a “Thousand Year Reich,” and to the Jews who were persecuted and systematically killed by the Nazis.  However, there are no memorials or tributes to those who perished under Stalin.

He was revered in the former Soviet Union for having defeated Hitler on his Eastern Front, and for the Red Army’s capture of Berlin—even though as the Soviets moved through Germany, they raped at least two million German women in what is now acknowledged as the largest case of mass rape in history.  As the truth about him became known following his death, a program of “de-Stalinization” was implemented.  However, never in the Soviet Union’s history were steps taken to honor fully those whose only crime was working on the land.  They were peasant farmers, most of them, but they stood in the way of “progress,” Soviet-style.  To increase agricultural production and to implement the multi-year plans that were being devised for their confiscated farms, which became state-owned lands, they were expendable—and liquidated.

For such a colossal crime to go “unnoticed” outside of the Soviet Union can only be explained by the gathering storm clouds of World War II, and the march of Germany and Japan, which focused the world’s attention elsewhere.  China and other parts of Asia came under attack and were later occupied by Japan, while Hitler marched into Poland and then conquered Europe.  Straddling the Atlantic and Pacific with Hitler in the East and Japan in the West, and still dealing with the Great Depression’s aftermath, the United States was preoccupied prior to World War II.  Also, there was a strong sense of isolationism—that America was an island, bounded by the Atlantic and Pacific—which militated against our involvement in the Soviet Union’s “internal affairs.”

China’s Mao Tse-tung was directly responsible for an estimated 30-40 million deaths between 1958 and 1960, as a result of what Mao’s regime hailed as the “Great Leap Forward.”  Like Stalin, Mao’s crimes involved Chinese peasants, many of whom died of hunger from man-made famines under collectivist orders that stripped them of all private possessions.  The Communist Party forbade them even to cook food at home; private fires were outlawed; and their harvests were taken by the state.  Those who dared to question Mao’s agricultural policies—which sought to maximize food output by dispossessing the nation’s most productive farmers—were tortured, sent to labor camps, or executed.

More than 60 million human beings are forgotten, seemingly having disappeared without a trace in the Soviet and Chinese Holocausts of the 20th Century, as if they never existed or were swallowed up by history.  Yet they did exist, and they might have produced descendants numbering in the hundreds of millions today.  One can only conjecture as to the contributions they would have made to mankind, which are forever lost like the contributions of those Jews, Gypsies and others who were killed in the Nazi Holocaust, and by Japan, and by Pol Pot, and in Africa.

Approximately 70 years have passed since this human tragedy of epic proportions occurred in the Soviet Union.  Approximately 25 years have passed since the comparable tragedy occurred in China.  It is time for the world to pay tribute to more than 60 million people who perished under Stalin and Mao.  While the precise numbers of the victims may never been known, each of us has a duty to honor their memories and take steps to insure that holocausts do not occur anywhere again.  China, Russia and the other former Soviet-bloc countries whose citizens numbered among the silent voices must take the lead, and other nations must join as well.

It is possible that relatives and people who knew those who died are still alive today, and can bear witness to what happened and give new meaning to their lives.  However, the likelihood of that being true diminishes with each passing day, and it is a race against the clock before they too are gone—certainly in the case of those who might remember victims of the Soviet Holocaust.  It is time for the silent voices to be heard again, so they are not forgotten, which would compound their catastrophic fate.

I really liked this column which was originally published in DAWN. Rafia highlights problems with the Pakistani Muslim stereotype of American Jews. Will be looking forward to see what Rafia writes next. – TM

During the process of jury selection for her trial for attempted murder in New York, Dr Aafia Siddiqui alleged that she could not get a fair trial because she felt “everyone here is” a Jew. She said she would “boycott” the trial unless the Jews on the jury were removed.

Because defendants have the right to have jurors removed from their trial, Dr Aafia was successful in having Jewish Americans taken off the jury.

Dr Aafia’s outburst was widely reported in the Pakistani media but there was little reflection on the allegation itself. This comment investigates the specific allegation that being Jewish would automatically render a person unfit to reach a fair judgment in the Dr Aafia case.

In simple words, this is not a discussion of Dr Aafia’s guilt or innocence or the morality or justice of her detention. Instead, it is a dissection of the belief held by many Pakistanis and other Muslims that being a Jewish American automatically leads to bias against Muslims in general and Muslim Americans in particular.

As Muslims fight against the evil of being judged as a group because of the actions of the Osamas and Hakeemullahs of this world, they should in turn refrain from passing judgment on a community, based on the actions of a few of its members.

Since Dr Aafia’s trial is taking place in the US it is pertinent to focus on Jewish Americans. The construction of this group in the eyes of most Muslims has been defined by the actions of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) that has over the decades been instrumental in constructing US foreign policy’s uncritical stance on Israel.

AIPAC’s influence on American foreign policy is clear but its status as the only political voice of Jewish Americans is no longer true. The year 2009 saw the emergence of another Jewish lobbying group called J Street that has since garnered the support of many liberal and progressive American Jews. One of J Street’s foremost political platforms is the advocacy of the two-state solution and “the right of Palestinians to a sovereign state of their own”. The organisation overtly opposes the construction of new settlements on Palestinian land.

The J Street website features a press release condemning the arrest of Palestinian political activists in Sheikh Jarrah and the increasing repression of political dissent by Israeli authorities. Another press release issued on Jan 28, 2010 commends US Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Howard Berman on his statements emphasising the urgency of a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

The politics of J Street and its pronounced distance from the unquestioning approval of all actions of the Israeli state is but one illustration of the fallacy of assumptions that portray all Jewish Americans as accepting of atrocities committed by the Israeli state.

The irony of Dr Aafia’s allegations against Jewish jurors is exacerbated further when one considers the fact that Jewish American activists and lawyers have been at the forefront of ensuring that those imprisoned in Guantanamo and other terrorism suspects are produced in courts of law. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which is at the forefront of these efforts, was not only founded by a former justice of the US Supreme Court and a Jewish American, but is headed and largely funded by Jewish Americans.

Not only has the ACLU been at the helm of leading the fight against indefinite detention and torture, most recently it filed a Freedom of Information Act request demanding that the US government provide accurate information on the number of drone attacks and give the correct casualty figure for those killed in such attacks. It was the ACLU that recently forced the US government — in line with another Freedom of Information Act request — to reveal the names of detainees held at the Bagram airbase in Afghanistan.

On Jan 25, 2010 the International Justice Network (IJN), a monitoring group, issued a statement on behalf of Dr Aafia’s brother saying that the group and family were disturbed that the defendant was not acting in the manner she usually did and they were concerned that the stress she had undergone in recent days had affected her behaviour.

The IJN — selected to speak on the family’s behalf by Dr Aafia’s own brother — has on its board a Jewish American attorney named Buz Eisenberg. The latter is a member of the Centre for Constitutional Rights’ Guantanamo Global Justice Initiative, which provides free legal representation to inmates detained at Guantanamo Bay. Mr Eisenberg’s first client was released and repatriated to Saudi Arabia thanks to his efforts. He is currently representing two more Algerian Muslim detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

Simply put, even as Dr Aafia casts aspersions on the Jewish Americans that may have been present in her jury, it is Jewish Americans who are working at the request of her own brother to monitor the fairness of her trial and the condition of her mental state.

Undoubtedly, many questions can be raised about the flawed mechanisms through which Dr Aafia and many others accused of terrorism have been treated by the US authorities.

But this has little to do with being Jewish American. It is a myth that all Jewish Americans are against the two-state solution and to feel strongly against the community obscures Jewish American efforts to stand up for the rights of those detained in Guantanamo and Bagram.

Explaining their efforts does not suggest that prejudice against Muslims does not exist or that individuals who are Jewish are never prejudiced. Instead, it is meant to stress that reflection is needed on the notion that religious identity necessarily translates into certain political views. It is also meant to stress that there are those who are not Muslims but who are nevertheless fighting for the rights of Muslims and perhaps owed a similar favour in return.

KINGSTON, Jamaica (JTA) — Abraham Cohen Henriques, a Jewish merchant from Amsterdam, arrived in Jamaica in 1670 on a mission to find the hidden treasure of Christopher Columbus.

Acting on a tip handed down to him by a forcibly converted Jew, he scoured the thick vegetation of the island’s interior searching for the great explorer’s secret stash.

By most accounts Henriques turned up empty handed, but he liked the place Columbus dubbed the “fairest isle” so much that he kept coming back.

More than three centuries later, the Henriqueses are still here.

Ainsley Henriques, the leader of Jamaica’s tiny Jewish community and a distant relative of Abraham the treasure seeker, is now on his own mission here: Instead of looking for a treasure, he is its guardian.

For the past 30 years Henriques, who is in his 70s, has worked tirelessly to preserve the rich history and traditions of Jamaica’s unique Jewish community.

“I restructured the congregation, established an office, employed staff and persuaded the community to open a museum,” Henriques tells JTA. “We have hundreds of school children coming in to the synagogue every week to learn about the community.”

Henriques teamed up with the Jamaican government to host an academic conference last week in Kingston on the history of the island’s Jewish community. Participants came from around the world.

But Henriques harbors few illusions: He knows his may be a losing battle.

In his lifetime, he has seen the community here shrink slowly but steadily in a process that began long before he was born. From a peak of 2,535 Jews in 1881, only 450 were left in 1974. Today the community numbers about 200. There hasn’t been a regular rabbi here for 30 years.

Jamaican Jews are a subspecies of their own. A significant minority are black, the descendants of intermarriages or relationships between Jewish plantation owners and their slaves. They speak in the same unmistakable accent for which the island is famous. And like most Jamaicans — but perhaps unlike most Jews — they are laid back.

In downtown Kingston on Friday nights, prayers can be heard coming from the beautiful Sharei Shalom Synagogue-United Congregation of Israelites, the only remaining shul on the island. Prayers are read in English, Hebrew and Spanish — a reminder of the community’s Sephardic origins.

Built in 1908 on the spot of a previous synagogue destroyed by an earthquake, the two-storied shul is one of only four synagogues in the world with a sand floor, locals say.

“There are four main reasons why the floor is covered in sand,” Henriques explains as he stands on the bimah. “First, to remind us that we are desert people. Second, that we may be as many as the grains of sand. Third, because it muffled the steps of our ancestors who worshiped in secret. And four — and perhaps the most important reason — the kids love it.”

Hundreds of years of relative isolation have had an effect on local Jewish practice.

Alon Gildoni, a former emissary from the Jewish Agency for Israel, became intimately acquainted with the community during his time here from 2006 to 2008. One of his goals was to reintroduce some Jewish customs that had been forgotten. On Sukkot, Gildoni recalls, the community was in the habit of using oranges as one of their Four Species in lieu of an etrog, the lemon-like citrus fruit stipulated by Jewish law.

“This, however, does not necessarily represent ignorance on the part of Jamaica’s Jews,” Gildoni says. “In an impossible situation, they found answers. The fact that they survived until today is against all odds, and I credit part of that to the motivation of those who fought for so long against being forcibly converted.”

Five etrog seedlings are now growing in the fecund ground of one community member’s garden.

While Jews here are happy to learn from their coreligionists from abroad, they are proud as well of their own customs. An attempt to segregate services by gender, for example, was roundly rejected.

Jewish Jamaicans trace their origins to the first Europeans to land on the island, many of whom were Marranos — Jews who were forced to convert to Christianity but secretly practiced Judaism. When the island was taken over by the English in the late 17th century, a new wave of Portuguese Jews from Amsterdam came, including Abraham Cohen Henriques. They were merchants and plantation owners primarily, but some profited from the slave trade and state-sponsored theft on the high seas.

Small as it was, the community made its mark on the island. Jamaica’s Jews have been representatives in the local parliament, and Jews started the island’s biggest newspaper, the Gleaner.

Perched on the foothills of the Green Mountains overlooking Kingston, the Hillel Academy is a shining example of the Jewish community’s contribution to Jamaica. Opened in 1969 in the house of the local rabbi, the school is meant for island residents, not Jewish instruction.

“The school is considered a gift by the Jewish community to the people of the island in the spirit of Rabbi Hillel’s teachings,” a teacher explains during a tour of the sprawling campus.

Today the school has several hundred students, only a handful of whom are Jewish. While the school has some Jewish themes — a non-Jewish student whose family is from India wears a badge identifying himself as a member of the Masada club — Jews who want to learn about Judaism must do so outside of regular classes.

Assimilation has taken a toll on Jamaican Jewry. The telephone directory lists thousands of Levys, Cohens and Gabays, but very few of them identify as Jews, according to community members.

A few Jamaicans are rediscovering their Jewish heritage.

Patrique Mudhay, a tall, black man clad in a colorful shirt decorated with Jewish symbols, is a regular at the synagogue. He recalls being told of his Jewish background by his grandmother, who converted to Catholicism when she married.

“Although I don’t speak or read Hebrew, I have to have people who know Hebrew read the Torah,” the kipah-wearing Mudhay says. “I will not let others tamper with my religion.”

But people like Mudhay are exceptions; emigration and assimilation are the norm for Jews here.

“This is not a community that will hold on the handle of its history,” Henriques says.

Hoping to stem the tide, Henriques wants to draw Jewish tourists to the island’s synagogue and old cemeteries, perhaps as part of a cruise that will include other islands with Jewish history, such as Barbados. But he seems largely to have accepted that the community eventually will vanish — by his estimation within 30 years.

“The future for communities like this are limited,” Henriques says.

“Who will be the last Jew? I don’t know,” he says. “But my hope is that the evidence of the congregation will not disappear.”

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles – Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me for you, that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. – Ephesians 3:1-2

For This Reason

In the preceding verses, Paul wrote of how God in Christ is joining the Jew and the Gentile into one body, so that there are no longer strangers and aliens. Rather, all are members of God’s one family together.

This is the background to what he will say about the grace given to him.

Usually, when we think of grace being given to us, it is to lift us out of the depths of deep sin. Specifically, we usually think of grace being the forgiveness of sins. The very beginning of this section lets us know Paul is not thinking about forgiveness of sins – although that will be involved in what God does.

God’s Grace Was Given to Me for You

The Gentiles are the “you” in this context. Paul is a prisoner for the Gentile world in general and for the Gentile Christians in particular. What is the grace God gave Paul for the sake of the Gentiles?

The first grace he speaks of is the gift of revelation.  God revealed the mystery of His purpose for the Gentiles in Christ to Paul. This revelation came because God had called Paul to be an apostle of Christ. He spoke of himself as “the apostle to the Gentiles.” Indeed, most of his work was among the Gentiles, which was an evidence of grace in itself!

Can you imagine Saul of Tarsus, the Pharisee of Pharisees, becoming an evangelist to the Gentiles? If he were to become a Christian at all, you (and he) would have thought that he would spend his preaching life among his own people. When he returned to Jerusalem after becoming a Christian, in a trance he saw the Lord. He spoke of this in a speech to the Jerusalem mob of Jews that were trying to kill him. Paul said about his conversation with Jesus:

“Quick,” He said to me. “Leave Jerusalem immediately, because they will not accept your testimony about me.”

“Lord,” I replied, “these men know that I went from one synagogue to another to imprison and beat those who believe in you. And when the blood of your martyr Stephen was shed, I stood there giving my approval and guarding the clothes of those who were killing him.”

Then the Lord said to me, “Go; I will send you far away to the Gentiles.”

At this, the mob, which had quietened to hear him speak, became rowdy again and were threatening to kill Paul, even as he was in the custody of the Roman guard.

Paul left Jerusalem to go back to his home in Tarsus (Acts 9:29-30). It was there Barnabas found him and brought him to work with him in Antioch, the first great Gentile/Jewish church (Acts 11:25-26). It was from there that Paul began his missionary career with three distinct “journeys” that all set out from Antioch.

God’s grace worked mightily in Saul of Tarsus to form him into Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles.

The Grace of Servanthood

I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of His power. Although I am less than the least of all God’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God’s grace in Paul reached beyond the Gentile world to the “rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms.” He, by preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, made things plain to those in the heavenly realms.

Who are these? In Ephesians 6:12, Paul declared,

Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. – Ephesians 6:12

There, the rulers and authorities are clearly the forces of evil arrayed against the preaching of the gospel. It is likely that in 3:10 it is these minions of Satan as well.

Paul’s preaching made things plain to the Devil and his angels. By grace, God used Paul as a warrior in a plan far greater than any one of us. Yet, in “the church” we also are participants in this great scheme of God.

Peter said that angels desire to look into these things given to the apostles and prophets (1 Peter 1:10-12). These apostles and prophets, Peter said, “spoke of the grace that was to come to you.” We are participants with Paul in this grace as we serve the gospel and show its truths plainly. What about the gospel is Paul speaking of here? Is it not God’s manifold wisdom (i.e., many-faceted wisdom) in bringing Jew and Gentile together into one family?

The Grace of Freedom of Approach

In him [Christ] and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged bcause of my sufferings for you, which are your glory. – Ephesians 3:12-13

When Esther wanted to approach Ahasuerus, the Persian Emperor, she feared for her life. If he did not raise the scepter to her, she would be killed instantly by the guard around him (Esther 4:11). Paul says we have freedom and confidence in approaching God.

The grace God gave Paul (and gives us as well) changes our relationship to God. Because we are “in Christ,” we have confidence in this freedom. This is the freedom to pray and know God has a listening, sympathetic ear.

That sympathetic ear also can keep us from becoming discouraged or fearful when persecution raises its ugly head. We can be sure persecution is there because the devil is on the run. All we need to do when our enemy is “skeered” and is in retreat, is to follow the advice of one of Lee’s generals (I forget which one) and “Keep up the skeer.”

Summary

The Grace God gave Paul was the grace of becoming an instrument in God’s hand to help further God’s eternal purpose in Christ. He became a c0-worker with God. We are called into that same grace.

Grace is much more than mere forgiveness of our sins, as great as that gift is. By Grace, God lifts us out of our sins – indeed, out of ourselves – to play a role in His cosmic purposes. While we may understand His great plan only imperfectly, when we are faithful to Him and are servants of the gospel, as was Paul, He will accomplish His purposes in us.

We may think that the little things we are called to do are unimportant. God’s grace gives grandeur to all good works God has prepared for His people. His grace forms and molds us into what we need to be to do His works. His grace, then, uses those things we may do for purposes beyond what we can imagine.

I was just looking in a book I got a long time ago called Entering the Orchard, which is one volume of a 31 volume set of English translations of pieces written by R’ Yosef Hayim of Baghdad, the Ben Ish Hai. He has a whole chapter there dedicated to studying Torah at night. He says in many different ways how nighttime is the ideal time for Torah study. Many of his ideas deal with the mystical issues of keeping yourself spiritually connected at times that are dangerous or more likely that people are going to do something out of line. But I was thinking about this, and it seems almost every college student picked up on this idea independently. It suddenly made so much sense why college students will hang out with their friends during the day, party at night, and then if they don’t pass out in bed pop open the books to study a bit (I’m not talking about finals obviously.) Am I right? Is there a connection? No, I don’t think anybody thinks Chemistry is spiritual. But maybe when you do crack open the textbooks you might set aside a few moments for self-introspection.

According to many Haredi Rabbis, it’s the internet. There has been a group of Haredi Rabbis who, over a couple of months, have tried to hamper the use of internet by many Haredim. This definitly has failed with even many well known Haredi organizations with (including Haredi Rabbis with educational programs and YouTube blogs) well as many Haredim surfing the internet. Is this the Haredi Rabbis cryptonite? If Haredim are lurred into a Secular lifestyle, they will leave their Haredi neighborhoods. There are many stories online about Haredim leaving the sect and even many books published. This also comes with a past ban on advanced cellular phones and the owning of television in homes. But is all this banning really helping Haredi life? In my personal opinion, banning will do nothing but bad. There are good alternatives, more alternatives, to using the internet, and less of a good result, of banning it. Some may include a way of informing many who might not understand the Haredi lifestyle by forming websites and programs. Another could also benefit the Haredi community at large by having programs and computer applications for Haredi children to help with their education. These are only a few of many good alternatives. Like the good saying goes, if you can’t beat them, join them!

Historically Jews had no military, nor a government, nor any way to truly harm anyone. This has changed, but it’s a recent phenomenon.

It is also thought that Europeans live in powerful states that have proven themselves over centuries capable of fighting wars of self-defense successfully.

More recently, Europeans brought their troubles upon themselves. Nobody forced them to accept Moslem hordes. When Europeans will have enough, they can stop the Moslems or at least stop praising them at every turn.

Europe’s problem isn’t murder, it’s suicide.

The Jews, on the other hand, did not invite pogroms and sing praises of the pogromists.

People hate those close to them and those who are successful. Thus, in the 80s, the LA Lakers were rivals with the Clippers (their neighbors) and the Boston Celtics (a successful team).

The Eskimos are neither. The Jews are both.

Why do the Iraqi Shi’ites hate the Sunni? Neighbors. Why do they hate Americans? They are successful. Why don’t the Shi’ites hate Brazilians or the Zulus? Both are like Eskimos: far away and not successful.

Because Jews don’t accept it, but Europeans do. I’ve written about this dozens of times before: if you get picked on in high school, it’s your fault. If I accepted my wife cheating on me, and complimented her by saying, “someone so pretty just really can’t be tied down to a loser like myself”, she would probably cheat.

Historically because Jews were powerless. That certainly isn’t true today in the US, but at least partly true on the international scene. Naturescorner noted that UN condemns Israel more than anyone. I thought it must be false, but it’s true. The UN Human Rights Commission condemns only Israel most years and explicitly forbade investigators from researching any human rights violations by the Arabs against Israelis.

Ethnic consciousness is more acceptable than racial consciousness. But you may be wrong here: the only ethnic consciousness that was explicitly condemned by the United Nations is Zionism. French, English, Polish, Russian nationalism is acceptable, but for a generation the UN condemned Jewish Nationalism. To this day, Israel is the only country whose existence is regularly placed in doubt, and the world is pushing to overwhelm Israel with 5 million Arabs who’ll create an Arab majority there.

In the US, racial consciousness is verboten because we had to fight a race-based civil war and had all sorts of other troubles on the issue. Whites just want it to go away, and are willing to take any BS that comes there way. Like I said, if you accept abuse, you’ll get it and it’s your fault.

How do you figure that the wall was treated as a “proper remedy”? The world condemned Israel’s wall (but not the American wall).

But the Jews don’t care because they were under terror assault. Americans are complacent because buses don’t blow up here every other week.

Again, it comes down to Israelis doing what needs to be done, while Americans are doing nothing. Having said that, Israel lived for 60 years without a wall because of international condemnation of it. It was only when terror became impossible to live with that the wall was built.

Because whites accept abuse. If I punch you in the face and you turn the other cheek, I will punch you again.

You mentioned a morally righteous demand but you didn’t mention a personal connection. Do you feel a personal connection with non jewish whites or do you feel separate? This isn’t a trick question and I promise not to criticize your answer. How you feel is how you feel. Also, others are welcome to answer.

This is a fair question and worth opening a thread on.

I get that Jews must be more loyal to each other, just as Danes are more likely to be pro-Denmark than pro-EU and the Russians are more likely to fight for Mother Russia than for whites in general.

If your co-ethnics are your brothers, your race are your cousins. You naturally love your brothers more, but do you love your cousins at all?

1) How loyal are you to the white race?
2) How white do you feel?
3) Do you feel being Jewish conflicts with being white?

She has a drink problem and I don’t know what to do about it.

She doesn’t drink that much. We have a well stocked drinks cabinet that contains pretty much the same bottles that it has contained since we got married. The cherry brandy has hardly been touched. The Advocaat gets sniffed once in a blue moon. There are a few decent bottles of whisky that get to blink every now and again when they are brought out into the light and there’s a large bottle of Cointreau that my wife bought for a desert she was experimenting with. Judging by how much is left in the bottle it must have been one of her rare failed culinary experiments. In the fridge sits plenty of beer and there’s always the odd bottle of new world wine knocking around.

Oh, and there’s some green stuff. Neither of us has a clue what it is. I’m not even sure it was green when we first acquired it.

You’d have thought that would be a sufficient range from which to find something to flop down with after a long day having her nails painted, but no. What’s her tipple of choice? Kiddush wine.

She likes the sweetness. Is there any other component to kiddush wine?

She tells me it’s cheap and it’s kosher so why am I complaining?

I wasn’t complaining until this Friday evening when I went to fill the bechers for dinner and found that the last bottle of kiddush wine was empty. I was furious. Friday night dinner without proper, horrible kiddush wine is not Friday night dinner. We may as well have cancelled Shabbat.

Oh Muslim your heart is the Tabut [container] wherein you will find Al Sakina [Tranquility] in the Thikr [Remembrance] of Allah.

I have told you that I will take you on a journey and so far I have kept my promise to you, it is a journey back to where you came from and you may wonder where this journey will take you so let me show you:

Surah 2:285. “The messenger believeth in that which hath been revealed unto him from his Lord and (so do) the believers. Each one believeth in Allah and His angels and His scriptures and His messengers We make no distinction between any of His messengers and they say: We hear, and we obey. (Grant us) Thy forgiveness, our Lord. Unto Thee (Allah) is the journeying.”

Surah3:28. “Allah biddeth you beware (only) of Himself. Unto Allah is the journeying.”

Surah4:18 “Allah’s is the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, and unto Him is the journeying.  42. And unto Allah belongeth the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth, and unto Allah is the journeying.”

In the remembrance of Allah, automatically you will correct your life and you will want and become a person living a life that is compliant with the Shariah [laws of Allah].

From the inside you are crying wanting to be known for who you are [but you are not alone], wanting to be loved for who you are [but you are loved more then anyone ever can], you are looking to share yourself [but Allah is there], share what you feel [but Allah knows what you feel], and you want to show how you feel [but why are you not in Sajda in front of Him?], you want to be able to cry openly without being ashamed [Allah is there for you], you want to let go of all the hurt you’ve ever endured and be content with the simplest of things [Al Quran is your guide]. The name and fame of this world can not buy you that happiness, everyone in the entire world feels alone and the fact is they are alone so how can you find what everyone is looking for [look in the place they had forgotten]? The greatest treasure that all of mankind is searching for is closer to you then you can ever imagine [your heart]. Everyone is looking for Sakina [Tranquillity] and comfort of the heart; everyone wants peace of heart a feeling of constant happiness. That Sakina [Tranquillity] can only be found in True Islam [In total submission to the will of Allah]

And Allah created mankind and jin only for the worship of Him, and Allah knows all that the hearts reveal and what it conceals, He Allah is the Creator of all things.

May the Almighty Allah fill your heart with His Sakina.

And verily I know that in this reminder the believers find contentment and peace of heart, to you my beloved Nation I wish Allah grants you the best of this world and the best of the Hereafter.
