When it comes to jewelry, there are refined pieces and all natural ones. Amber definitely falls into the natural beauty category.

Amber is one of the most interesting materials that is used in jewelry production today. This natural material is not mined nor created in a lab, instead it is a fossilized part of history. Pieces of amber can be traced back for 90 million years, with most of the world’s amber dating between 30 and 90 million years old. This ancient tree resin is found in several beautiful colors, and can be shaped into many different types of jewelry pieces.

Most of the world’s most beautiful amber gems (this fossilized resin is considered a gemstone even though it does not have the properties of most gems) come from the area around the Baltic Sea. This amber is called Baltic amber, and it is found in marine sand known as “blue sand” in this area. It is believed most of the amber originally came from the sap of one particular type of pine tree, known as Pinites succiniter, and this tree appears to be related to the pine trees of North America and Asia.

Amber is a beautiful, warm gemstone – but it can be made even more interesting if the piece contains preserved life from millions of years ago. Items that have been found inside fossilized amber include plants, insects such as small ants and flies, and even tiny tree frogs that existed millenia ago. Most of these animals and plants decayed within the amber, leaving only the impression (or occasionally, shell) inside the resin.

There are several different colors of amber available in the Baltic area – specifically, Russia, where 90% of the amber on today’s market is from. Most amber is a warm honey color – the color known as amber – but there are also cherry red pieces, lemon yellow and green ambers available. In the Dominican Republic, a special type of amber is found that is called blue amber – this amber appears blue when held against a dark background and is honey colored in the light. Blue amber is highly prized among collectors.

If you are interested in buying amber jewelry, be sure to buy from a reputable source. The popularity of this resin/gem in recent years has led to a large amount of counterfeits. Most of these are resins like plastic that are colored to look just like real amber – they may even have bubbles or inclusions like true amber has. Ich habe von unserer neuen Bloggerin Josie noch ein Interview/Portrait, mit und über Vincenca Rosca bekommen, das ich Euch hier gerne mal reinschreiben möchte.

Die Geschichte von Vincenca Rosca ist mit vielen Geschichten in SL vergleichbar und dennoch individuell, da hinter jedem Avatar eine Persönlichkeit steckt. Es begann am 24.03.2007 als sich Vincenca als Newbie das erste Mal im SL einloggte. Die Triebfeder war zu dieser Zeit die Neugier, die durch einen interessanten Bericht über SL in einer Zeitung geschürt wurde. Nachdem in den ersten Wochen alle Freebie-Plätze besucht wurden, stieß sie unweigerlich an eine Grenze, die jeder Neuling im SL einmal erreicht hat: Alles Hübsche und Individuelle ist teuer und oft auch unflexibel in der Farbgebung. Nun, man muss noch erwähnen, dass Vince mit 14 Jahren im RL einen Traum hatte und gerne Juwelier geworden wäre für exklusiven, individuellen Modeschmuck.  Aber was soll ich sagen, im RL läuft so manches anders. Was liegt also näher im 2. Leben seinen Traum zu verwirklichen und dort die Grenzen des Machbaren auszuloten. Also entscheid sich Vincenca ihren Schmuck von nun an selbst zu erstellen. Nach dem Bauen der ersten Teile hatte Vince schnell ihre treuen Fans gefunden, die sie bis heute noch begleiten und in ihrer Arbeit bestätigen. Über die Jahre, mit steigender Erfahrung, entwickelte sich der Schmuck von Vincenca Rosca immer weiter und trägt heute nicht umsonst den Namen <Vincenca Rosca finest jewellery in SL>. Es gibt inzwischen so viele schöne Schmucksets, dass mir selbst die Entscheidung schwer fällt was ich mir zuerst anschaffen sollte. Die Farben der Steine und der Metallteile sind über ein Menu auswählbar, die Details sind naturgetreu und könnten ohne Weiteres im RL nachgebaut werden und all das gibt es auch zu einem reellen Preis. Ein Besuch im Main Shop lohnt sich in jedem Fall.
Im Jahre 2009 durfte Vincenca Rosca Krone und Zepter für die Miss Universe im SL generieren, was auch zu einem wunderschönen Schmuckset geführt hat, der heute im Laden angeboten wird. Schaut Euch das Bild an.
Vincenca ist auf keine spezielle Stilrichtung festgelegt, ihre Aussage stimmt: “es soll für Jeden etwas dabei sein an dem er Freude haben kann“.

The story of Vincenca Rosca is comparable to many other stories in SL but yet individual, as the driving force behind every avatar is a personality.

It started on 24.03.2007 when Vincenca enterd SL the first time as a newbie. The motivation at that time was
curiosity that was inspired by an interesting report on SL in an RL newspaper.

After exploring the first few weeks of SL and  visiting all the freebie-sites, she inevitably discovered, as will every newcomer in SL at some point, that all individual and nice things are expensive, and often inflexible in the coloring.

Well, I have to mention at the age of 14 Vince had a dream in RL of becoming a master jeweler for exclusive, unique, fashion jewelry. But what can we say, in RL things run differently.

So what is the 2nd life better for than to live out  your RL dreams and explore the limits of feasibility.
Vincenca decided from SL to design her own jewelry and live out her RL dream of becoming a master jeweler.  After creating her first jewelry item, Vince quickly developed several loyal fans that accompany her today and confirm her work. Over the years, with increasing experience, Vincenca Rosca has improved her jewelry continuously thus, this factor is not in vain, the name:

In her shops there are  many beautiful jewelry sets available, that even I have the toughest time deciding "What to buy next?" How to find your face shape:
There are many ways to find your shape, from the simple (tie your hair back and trace your face shape on the mirror with lipstick) to the silly (put a towel over your head and have your husband guess the shape). But a true measurement of your face shape is in, well, its measurements! Write down these measurements on a piece of paper to determine your face shape:

1.) Measure your forehead at the widest points
2.) Measure your face across your cheekbones
3.) Measure your jawline at the widest points
4.) Measure your face vertically from hairline to chin

Oval — Length is equal to one and a half times the width
Round — Width and length are almost the same, within a half inch
Long — Longer than it is wide
Pear — Wide chin with a narrower forehead
Heart — Wide at forehead and cheekbones, very narrow at chin
Square — Forehead, cheekbones and jawline are about the same width
Diamond — Wider at cheeckbones, narrow at forehead and jawline

How to Find the Perfect Pair of Earrings:

Oval – This face shape is the most versatile and you can wear nearly any style of earring. So go for it and have fun! If you have a narrower face, you might want to veer away from long, thin earrings, especially when worn with your hair up, since it may exaggerate your face shape. As I flipped through the December issue of Parents magazine the other day, I came across a small advertisement for Nelle & Lizzy. Spotted pictures on RealTalkNY a few weeks back and came across this dope video today, so I figured I’d post it.  These pieces do get a lot of criticism for being so gaudy but some I find quite nice.

HSN’s resident rock hound is Jay King, who travels around the world to scout for unusual “rough” to use for his Mine Finds jewelry, which is sold on the home shopping channel.

King earlier this fall introduced bowls made out of turquoise, which flew out the door. They were quick sellouts.

Well, an 8 1/2-inch version of King’s turquoise bowl is now available on HSN’s Web site. It’s $310, and apparentlly modeled after Navaho corn-grinding bowls.

By the way, the bowls are described as “sculptured,” not turquoise.

Here’s what HSN’s Web site says: “Each bowl requires a day-long manufacturing process — through which it acquires its appealing raw-edge and high shine — and is fashioned from an intriguing composition of gibbsite, turquoise, feldspar, titanium dioxide and quartz.”

Great Green Gifts

Christmas is on the way yet again, and the last thing many of us want to think about in this time of abundance is conservation.  But this holiday season, I want to get you dreaming of a green Christmas instead of a white one.  Okay, you can have both, but let’s face it, eco-friendly everything is the way of the future. 

Because a better lifestyle doesn’t sleep at night; it simply IS…

 And one of the biggest setbacks on our journey to a less-polluting, more earth-friendly lifestyle worldwide is the holiday season.  A time where tradition has taught us to throw out the old and replace it with the new—to give material goods even if they are neither needed or wanted. 

To add to this glaring issues, reams after reams after reams of wrapping paper, as well as ribbons, tape, boxes, and cards are used for half a morning and then tossed out, contributing  to a pollution problem that is already out of control.  

I don’t want to lay a guilt trip on you.  Christmas wishes deserve to come true, and in fact I would venture to say that the it can be a spirit of abundance that saves us from ourselves.  Not abundance of material goods, but abundance of love, human relationships, respect for the Earth, and the other “intangible” things that really matter in this experience we call life.  

This Christmas, make the effort to restore Earth’s former glory. 

Let’s talk about solutions, because solutions are a necessary point on which to focus our attention. 

The first thing you should know is that you can recycle most of the products and “trash” associated with the Christmas spirit.  Your wrapping paper and all the attachments that come with it should be recycled, not thrown out.  And that goes with all that packaging too—boxes, bags, etc…  

Even your Christmas tree is recyclable!  All of the old household items, clothes, tools, equipment, machines, and electronics that you are replacing this December with all the gifts you are about to receive–those shouldn’t be thrown out.  

Instead, they can be donated or sold.  Do you realize how many people go without on Christmas?  How many parents cannot even afford to give their children presents…Homeless children, children whose parents are incarcerated, and children of those who are just struggling to get by and cannot afford to dig any deeper in their pockets.    

And it isn’t just children who need or could use your “junk.”  Generosity should never have an age limit.  Instead, let it exist free of any limits.  Embrace that spirit of abundance we talked about before. 

In addition, if you are struggling yourself, you’d be surprised how much of that stuff you consider to be junk another person considers worthy of buying off of you.  

The point is that this Christmas, don’t let the trash bin sit closer to you than the friends and family who give holidays meaning.  Wrap your mind around the concept of going green to the best of your ability.  You can find plenty of ideas online to help you in your efforts to recycle and reuse. 

Which brings us to another thing you should consider this Christmas—there are plenty of eco-friendly products out there that would make great gifts, and the best of them are found online.  Pave the way for the future of business by not contributing to all of the businesses selling Earth-unfriendly products.
