Dzień dobry.

Jako, że “Politykę” czytam z opóźnieniem, dopiero teraz przewertowałam numer z 31. października i znalazłam tam tak fantastyczny artykuł, że nie ma możliwości, żebym się nie podzieliła.

Być może niektórzy wiedzą już o mnie, że najchętniej przygarnęłabym każde zwierzątko, jak również wiele bym dała, żeby pomieszkać z wydrą (polecam “Wydry pana Gavina” Gavina Maxwella), bobrem ( “Nad rzeką bobrów” Erica Colliera, a także książka mojego dzieciństwa, przecudowna nawet teraz, “Sejdżio i jej bobry” Grey Owl) czy innym dziwacznym stworem. Jeżem na przykład.

Ów artykuł dotyczy właśnie jeży oraz grupy zapaleńców, którzy postanowili jeżom pomagać – tym potrąconym przez samochody, chorym, zmaltretowanym przez ludzi. I jeśli w pierwszym akapicie czytam, że “połączenie tych dwóch okoliczności zrodziło pasję, która pochłonęła jego życie” nie mogę tak po prostu przestać.

Czemu? Temu, że czytam o Cicely z “Przystanku Alaska”. Ruth Ann, właścicielka jedynego w Cicely sklepu, miała dwóch synów. Kapitalna scena, w której rozmawia o nich z Edem, jest dla mnie kwintesencją atmosfery tego serialu. Ruth Ann z dumą mówi o Ricku, a kiedy rozmowa schodzi na drugiego syna, Matthew, zawiesza głos i jakby ze wstydem, ze smutkiem i żalem, wyznaje Edowi straszną prawdę. Matthew robi karierę w finansach w Chicago, a Rick kierowcą ciężarówki, piszącym też wiersze, poetą.

I kiedy zaczęłam czytać o panu Andrzeju Kuziomskim, pomyślałam o Ricku. Z dumą o Ricku.

Człowiek poświęcił swoje życie ratowaniu jeży – mieszka z nimi, poznał ich zwyczaje i potrzeby, wie nawet, czym karmić małe jeżątka, żeby nie pozdychały. W tej chwili ma w mieszkaniu ponad trzydzieści tych zwierząt, karmi je, troszczy się, udziela rad, jeździ do weterynarzy (tych, którzy znają się na rzeczy – większość niestety się nie zna, o czym można przeczytać tutaj). Opisuje fantastyczne zachowania tych miłych zwierząt: “Igliwiak był w szoku. Przez kilka dni w ogóle nie chciał jeść. Za to potem momentalnie się oswoił. Trzeba było mu zrobić specjalną kratkę, żeby mógł się wspinać na łóżko, bo co pół godziny musiał przyjść się przytulić (…) Jedne, jak Pulpet, są przymilne i ugodowe, inne, jak Jeżynka, strasznie awanturne. Normalnie jeż, jak chce pokonać stopień, zwija się w kulkę i stacza. Ona skakała na cztery łapki. Musiała wszędzie wejść, wszystko obwąchać, a w poszukiwaniu nowych zabawek potrafiła ściągnąć człowiekowi skarpetkę (…)”.

Teraz pan Andrzej Kuziomski tonie w długach, grozi mu eksmisja. Ale – bajki na szczęście nie koniec – Kuziomski poznaje podobnych sobie ludzi, Jerzego Zembrowskiego i jego żonę, którzy pragnęli uratować jeża, ale niestety Jasiek Wędrowniczek zdechł przez niekompetencję lekarzy weterynarii.  Jerzy Zembrowski, jak sam mówi, “aby spłacić dług wobec Jaśka”, postanawia pomóc Andrzejowi Kuziomskiemu. Zakładają Stowarzyszenie Ochrony Nasze Jeże, dostają obietnicę od Lasów Państwowych, że Stowarzyszenie dostanie tereny pod budowę ośrodka dla jeży z prawdziwego zdarzenia. I zaczęło się – strona internetowa, zainteresowanie prasy, szukanie sponsorów.

Pomyślałam, że oczywiście moglibyśmy adoptować jednego jeżyka, kiedy już doprowadzimy ogród do stanu używalności (co, mam nadzieję, nastąpi w przyszłym roku) – niektóre jeże już nie nadają się na powrót do Natury i dla takich Stowarzyszenie szuka opiekunów; pomyślałam, że wpłacę jakieś pieniądze na konto; pomyślałam, że napiszę maila, że to wszystko fantastyczne; pomyślałam, że napiszę o jeżach i o Stowarzyszeniu na blogu, na Babskim Combrze i na Interii360 – byle tylko więcej osób wiedziało.

Zasiadłam do komputera, razem z “Polityką”, co by się wesprzeć i zaczęłam przeglądać stronę internetową Stowarzyszenia Nasze Jeże. Znalazłam wzruszającą historię o Jaśku, artykuł Adama Wajraka i naprawdę dość sporo informacji o jeżach. Znalazłam też coś jeszcze.

I have some great news I want to share with you..

I am going to be a dad!

While we both found out from a pregnancy kit at the beginning of June, it was only on Tuesday this week that we went for the 12 week scan. The antenatal lady who did the scan, said that ‘it’ was 14 weeks and 4 days old.. and our expected due date is the 1st January 2010. The geek in me immediately thought of 010110 and binary numbers..

• 0101 1000 X
• 0101 1001 Y
• 0101 1010 Z

Perhaps the name should begin with one of those letters??

Its great news, and both us are really happy

W dobie kryzysu, Polskie Koleje Państwowe (PKP) postanowiły wzbogacić swoją ofertę przewozów usługę: „Szczęśliwy pociąg”. Pomysł jest jeszcze w fazie projektu, ale już nieoczekiwanie spotkał się z wielkim entuzjazmem klientów PKP, którzy ustawiają się do kas i rezerwują bilety na przejazd. Zainteresowani fenomenem przeprowadziliśmy wywiad  z panem Władysławem Nasyp, pomysłodawcą tego projektu, by uzyskać odpowiedź na dręczące nas pytania.

Jedyne słuszne medium:

-W jaki sposób wpadł pan na ten pomysł?-

Władysław Nasyp:

-Hmm, klucz do sukcesu jest prosty. Chciałem dać ludziom, to czego jeszcze nie ma na polskim rynku. Wszyscy wiemy, że chińskie podkoszulki i wytarte jeansy nie stanowią już większej atrakcji, a WARSy w wagonach węglowych to żadna egzotyka. Mój pomysł opierał się głównie na świeżości, nie na kopiowaniu zachodnich trendów.-

Jsm:

-Czy mógłby pan powiedzieć, coś więcej na temat oferty PKP „Szczęśliwy pociąg”. Na czym ona polega?-

WN:

-Oczywiście. Pociąg ma tylko dwie stacje, początkową i końcową ,jedzie  nie zatrzymując się w ogóle po drodze. Na stacji początkowej, maszynista rozpędza lokomotywę do maksymalnej prędkości i następnie z niej wyskakuje. Cały pociąg mknie z maksymalną prędkością bez maszynisty, a ludzie liczą na szczęście. Gdy dotrze bezpiecznie do docelowego miejsca, uzyskuje miano szczęśliwego, a pasażerowie otrzymują środki uspokajające i batonik.-

Jsm:

-Jak wygląda cennik odnoszący się do tej usługi?-

WN:

-Podstawową rzeczą decydującą o cenie przejazdu jest szczęście, na które liczą pasażerowie. Kiedy pociąg ma przebyć tylko odcinek po pojedynczym torze to usługa jest bardzo tania, jeżeli natomiast występują zwrotnice, bardzo ostre zakręty, przejazdy niestrzeżone oraz inne atrakcje, to cena biletu wzrasta wprost proporcjonalnie do ich występowania.-

-Co według pana przyczyniło się do tego, że PKP tak zainteresowała się tym projektem.-

WN:

-Uważam, że powodów jest kilka. Po pierwsze, jak już wspomniałem jest to totalna nowość, po drugie pociąg nie zatrzymujący się w ogóle po drodze na żadnej stacji, więc w bardzo szybkim tempie przemierza trasę. Poza tym są jeszcze powody ekonomiczne przemawiające za tym pomysłem, bowiem jeżeli pociąg będzie miał tylko dwie stacje, to po sprawdzeniu biletów na stacji początkowej konduktorzy, tudzież kontrolerzy biletów, będą mogli wysiąść, a pojazd zamknie się od wewnątrz, uniemożliwiając dostanie się do jego wnętrza osobom trzecim. W ten sposób będzie możliwe skrócenie czasu pracy personelowi PKP i zaoszczędzenie znacznej kwoty pieniędzy. Ostatnim plusem przemawiającym za projektem jest fakt, że maszyniści są potrzebni tylko w pierwszej fazie jazdy pociągu i po jego opuszczeniu, mogą zakończyć pracę. Oni także, będą mieli obcięte godziny pracy i w kasie kolei zostanie więcej oszczędności.-

-Mówił pan o plusach tego projektu, a czy są jakieś minusy?-

WN:

-Jest tylko jeden minus. Nierozwiązana zostaje kwestia zatrzymania pociągu bez maszynisty, jednak pracujemy nad tym i mogę zdradzić, że bardzo prawdopodobne jest to, iż pociąg będzie zatrzymywany przez jednego z pasażerów, który w zamian za to otrzyma darmowy przejazd-

-Ja również.-

Cóż, jak możemy wywnioskować z wywiadu, oferta „Szczęśliwy pociąg” wkrótce wejdzie w życie. Nie zostaje nam więc nic innego, jak tylko szybko pobiec do kas licząc na to, że dopisze nam szczęście i uda się zarezerwować bilet jeszcze na ten rok.

The little appartement room was empty when Jez stepped from the badly lit hallway into her humble abode. She hung in the doorway for a few moments, trying to decide what was more wrong–the fact her appartement was empty, or the fact she was feeling bothered by it.

Finally, she sighed and unslung her belt as she strode through the tiny, minimally furnished living room. It was time for a shower. “Ah, I do love a job well done!” she called out loudly to the empty air, tossing her hostler–and her guns–carelessly onto the coffee table as she passed it on her way to the bathroom. She’d never once been attacked in her own bathroom, and frankly, the precaution was beginning to tire her.

She ran a hand through her hair impatiently. What was wrong with her today? Even by her own standards, she was extremely irritable.

It must be the lack of sleep, she concluded, flipping on the bathroom lights.

“Did you know that eighty percent of all murders are committed in the shower, or in the bathroom?” a low, indolent voice she did not recognise drawled.

Apparently, the appartement had not been as empty as she had thought.

A figure was sprawled across the bathroom tiles, feet propped on her tiny sink, guns trained on her. He gave her a cheeky grin. Jez felt her heart plummet to the bottom of her stomach. Of all the days she chose to be careless, it had to be today.

Karma is such a bitch.

Eyeing her would-be murderer warily, Jez crossed her arms and leaned against the door frame. “Should I feel flattered someone hates me enough to sic a mercenary on me? What’s it for?”

The man shrugged–she could see a scar running down the right side of his face under the wide brim of his hat–and said, “Sorry, confidential information. I just get paid to bring you in alive.” He quirked an eyebrow at her, eyes flickering down to where her guns should have been. “I see you don’t even have a gun on you. Dunno why I had to be bothered. Are you a newbie at this or something?”

Biting back her irritation, Jez considered her options. None of them involved staying alive. Get captured then shot, or get shot then captured then shot again.

“Look,” she replied, irritation bleeding into her voice, “Just because I get careless once. What–”

Abruptly, she ducked out of the bathroom, slamming the door close, just as the gunshot rang out from behind her. Damn, that was close. The fleeting thought barely had time to make its way through her mind before she was sprinting down the hall toward her living room. She dove for her coffee table and–salvation! her guns!– just as the man burst out of the bathroom, in a shower of splinters and bullets.

Jez snatched her guns, flipped over the table and made herself as small as possible behind the couch. It was promptly shot through with holes. Damn furniture, always needed to be replaced, and always so expensive. She peeked quickly over the sofa, aimed, and raised her guns…

Bang! Bang!

Missed, and missed. He’d ducked around the doorframe.

Cursing lowly under her breath, Jez flattened herself to the ground behind her couch as the mercenary’s return shots were fired. The bullets whizzed over her head and buried themselves in the cheap plaster of her wall. Holes in her life, holes in her furniture and now, holes in her friggin’ wall.

Damn, and right after a job too. Must’ve been watchin’ me for a while now or something. Why didn’t I fuckin notice?

Very carefully, she glanced over the couch again. The man was still there, waiting, an amused smile flitting across his lips. “I could wait all day here, you know. I’m not the one who’s tired, hungry and gritty after a hard day’s work,” she heard him say. He paused then added leisurely, “Day’s work has just started for me…”

Jez glanced down at herself. Her clothes were dirty and torn, probably stinking too. Her hair was a mess, and she was aching all over. Her stomach growled lowly, reminding her she’d only taken a light something for breakfast, nothing for lunch and, with the way things were going, nothing for dinner either.

Jez sighed, and settled in for a long wait.

A cóż to za postać przemyka po ulicy..

myślałem że to będzie błyskotliwy wstęp do notki.. cóż, nie jest. Google prawdę Ci powie i ta fraza jest zdecydowanie nadużywana. W każdym razie, mówiąc krótko i nie całkiem od rzeczy, wieczorny spacer zakończył się fotografowaniem nielada modelu – Jeż Jeżowy w swojej pełnej krasie. I to skubany cierpliwy był, bo dał sie obstrykać z obu stron.. albo go wkurzyłem, albo się wściekł.. w pewnym momencie powinienem był użyć chyba nawet redukcji czerwonych oczu… a tak..

Na koniec i na dobranoc żarcik, co to ma brodę dłuższą niż broda jeżyka i lat ma więcej niż jeżyk ma igieł na grzbiecie.. Tak więc raz spotkał Niedźwiedź Jeża w lesie, a że Jeż coś zakąszał, niedźwiedź zagadnał:
- Co jesz?
- Co niedzwiedź? – odparł Jeżyk

i think the last time we saw each other was during graduation December last year! =P

i guess the excuse is that we both have busy schedules, as shift workers.

made ‘apple-sultana’ muffins this morning. first time trying the recipe from woolies website.

Ingredients 80g butter 2/3 cup apple juice 1 egg, lightly beaten 2 cups plain flour 1 tbs baking powder ½ tsp cinnamon ¼ cup brown sugar ½ cup sultanas 1 fuji apple

Method 1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Line a 12 medium muffi n pan with paper cases. 2. Melt butter and cool slightly. Whisk with apple juice and egg and set aside. 3. Sift flour, baking powder and cinnamon together into a large bowl. Mix in brown sugar and sultanas. Peel apple and coarsely grate into bowl. Toss to combine. 4. Add liquid ingredients all at once and mix quickly and lightly together, until just combined. Divide evenly between cases and bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden.

It’s been exactly a week since I arrived in Seoul.

I’ve realised, after looking back over the archives, that I need to be specific about where I am and what exactly is going on!  Otherwise it gets very confusing…  I don’t really remember when I’ve been here in Seoul and when I’ve been back in Brisbane… It’s also a blur when Jez was here and when he was home, when we were together, when we were apart, when we were seeing other people… its all very confusing!

This time last year, I was in Brisbane – thinking abut Korea:

I’m really happy I found that actually, to remember one of the reasons I’m here…  It does feel like this time is in some ways a "goodbye Korea" visit…  a time to tie up some loose ends, tick a few more boxes, satisfy myself. 

And this time in 2007, I was in Seoul – living with Jez at Oldfields Castle… I was getting a little frustrated at having nowhere green to escape to.
SO, for the record – I am in Seoul and Jez in in Brisbane and we are together and he is coming here in April.  I’ve just finished one week of rehearsals for my 3rd storyteller contract.  He is at home applying for grants and festivals, making autums sun’s website, arranging music for them and sewing things with noni to sell at westend market. 

It’s his and Kate’s birthday soon.  The magic 25 on the 25th.  Very very sad that I’ll be away for that and for Kate’s 21st.  Very very sad.  It’s not completely out of my control, but, it pretty much is.

We didn’t have a directorfor our first week of rehearsal – so I taught my new partner YongJin what to do.  We’ve spent the last week practicing the workshop, (re)learning songs and shopping…  She’s great.  An interesting one actually, who I feel I need to get to know more.  I like her, and trusted her straight away… but on Friday night we saw a different side to her at Roger’s apartment – well, actually it was just he drunk side.  Roger was getting a bit annoyed at her actually…  It was one of those weird nights with Roger.  Except we played some rad music and sung some lovely songs too which was a highlight.  He told me I should of accepted the role in 12 animals.  I maintain the fact that I am not good enough.  Plus, it’s not really what I want to do.  

What I do want to do is this piece of filmic theatre that I’ve been working on…  Need to write a good e-mail to Jez about it actually.  Rog suggested I get YoungHee on board – I was looking for a Korean actor in Australia… so maybe I’ll take advantage of her when I’m back home.  A trip to Sydney may be required.  

This entry is all over the place!  Random thing here, random thing there… totally fine.

Had pizza with Chris today.  It was a good pizza actually – and I got a book of coupons for April so you KNOW Jez and I will take advantage of that!  After pizza we went to Kyobo to check out Hot Tracks stationery… it’s amazing.  But in a nothing-has-changed kind of way… was hoping for now new radical shit.  

Then I met Amy, Zoe, Derek and the new Aussie actor – ABE – at buccello (or whatever it’s called)…  there’s one in MyongDong now! So no more trips out to Sinsa just for a good sandwich… although I love Sinsa and will continue to embark on trips there for attractive coffee shops, design shops and boutique fashion.  Wanker.  

Have spent alot of time on the internet clicking between twitter, flickr, facebook, gay blogs & gmail of late.  I don’t see this as a bad thing yet – if i start wasting time on the net rather than experiencing Korea I will start to judge myself…. but this week has just been about settling in and transitioning between friendship circles…  virtual social networlding can really help with that and ease the separation.  On some Seoul communities site I found this group:  AMERICANS IN SEOUL: 38 members Latest Activity: Dec. 17, 2008 A group for Americans or those that love us because we are the shit.

Maybe not today.

Back to Abe – he is very attractive and a really nice straight guy.  I hope he enjoys his time here.  He is well traveld and seems very mature.  An old Soul, Zoe and I decided.  Actually, I hope we become friends.  I think he could become a friend like Dan, which would be ideal. 

The sex next door is VERY latex.  Sounds like someone rubbing a dry balloon. Ouch.  (maybe she/he’s inflatable?)

On that note, I’m gonna go to bed.

Don’t have to start work until 1pm everyday this week!  YEEEEHAAAAAAA!!!

Today was my last shift at Blue Lotus – and what a shift it was.  It is no exageration to say that it was the worst shift I’ve ever had there…  It has made me depressed for the rest of the day.  Luckily I got to hang out with some bright, joyful people in the park though – they made me feel better.  Then I went home and had a sleep. 

Basically, there were too many orders for the kitchen to handle and too many tables for me to handle at once.  This meant that people were waiting too long for food.  It also meant we sold out of heaps of stuff which lead to many problems…  Some understood, and were just kindly disappointed.  Others were upset, but didn’t blame me… and some were angry – genuinely angry and abusive to me.  It’s really difficult to take that…  I feel like I’ve really let people down.   I also feel like they have no right to abuse me, since I am doing all I can…  

It’s weird – I mean it’s just a cafe and it’s no big deal.  But some people get really angry about waiting for food.  I don’t get it.  I guess if you’ve never worked in hospitality, you don’t understand how it works… that there are many tables to feed at once.  One man was yelling at me to get the manager because he wanted to "strangle him" – come on!  Chill out!  Let’s not overreact.

I gave away so much free stuff as apologies…  I wavered entire tables’ bills…  

An interesting phenomenon:  my approach with customers is not to deny the problem.  For example, I say "I understand you have waited a long time, all I can do it put pressure on the cook…  I am really sorry, I don’t expect you to pay for this…" And, their response is a strange mix of anger and guilt and empathy…  A lot of customers, while very hungry and impatient, do feel like they’ve put me in an uncomfortable position and they pity that a bit…  They understand the problem and realise there’s no point yelling at me… They’re sometimes as sorry as I am.  

There were some massive lump-in-throat moments and some very glazy eyes.

I shut the shop.  It was ridiculous and we couldn’t serve anyone else.  

Urgh.  Why couldn’t my last day have been lovely?????
