Jason Loves the Jimmy Fund, Don't You?

One night after SMC’s incredible catch (which is awesome but still makes me hate him, mostly for the 20 years of baseball games and zero foul balls I have to show for it), we are headed back to Fenway in both an attempt to catch another and in support of our favorite charity. Today is the first of two days of the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund radio telethon, and I want to encourage all of you out there to give whatever you can. I know that times are tough, but I’m pretty sure you all have 20 bucks to give to kids with cancer. It’s an awesome cause and should be a great night at the park with the Sox aiming for the sweep of the White Sox and alot of great people raising money to help heroic doctors and patients beat the shit out of cancer.

I'll only miss the one on the right.

On a sadder note, Theo took another loss while the Sox won last night. For the second time this season, one of his Patriots style reclamation projects was thrown on the trash heap as Brad Penny, and his hot Ex Girlfriends were put on release waivers. It was fun at the start, but in the end Penny only won one of his last eleven decisions and looked like a pussy in doing it. Which is to say that I’m happy to see him go. Of course, this is for a happy reason because TImmmayyyy is back up to his old tricks for the Sox and the holes in the rotation are getting shallower by the day. Imagine bringing vintage 2008 Wiggler back in mid September, that’s like trading for a guy who will give you six quality innings every time out, just in time to catch the yanks and make another generation of Steinbrenner douches cry.

Off to the park, hope to see you there, and even if you cant make it please give to the Jimmy Fund this week.

Go Sox.

Done.

D & C and WEEI are teaming up with NESN and the Sox to strike out cancer in Jimmy Fund Drive August 27th and 28th. The goal: $5 million

I listen to Denis and Callahan’s sportstalk morning show on WEEI out of Boston just about every morning on the way to work. Today was a little bit different, they (with NESN today and tomorrow) are trying to help raise $5 million for the Jimmy Fund.

The stories are absolutely incredible. Of the courage displayed by the little patients, what the families have to endure, and the constant commitment by each and every hero at Dana-Farber.

One quick story I heard….A Father of 4 was there with his family. His 7 year old had leg pains that his pediatrician blew off multiple times as “growing pains.” Finally the little boy was diagnosed with cancer. He recently had his Femur replaced and they expect him to recover barring major setbacks. Horrid for a 7 year old boy to go through, but his outlook is promising. The father explained how you see people from all walks of life at the Dana-Farber Institute…Cancer doesn’t care…and he was talking to a woman who’s daughter was there. He asked about her condition and what they were there for?

“Hospice“ the woman replied. She was there for Hospice care for her 2 year old baby girl.

Sometimes life really isn’t fair Shavers. You got a two year old girl dying of cancer on one hand and on the other you have deadbeat meth-heads running around who will live to be 80 being nothing but a burden on our hurting society.

So for all of you that have dealt with this disease in some form in the past or present, here is your chance to help make sure a child doesn’t have to endure it in the future.

Open up your hearts and your wallets HERE (or call 1-877-738-1234). It doesn’t matter if it’s $1, 5, 10, or $1000, every little bit will help them CRUSH their goal of $5 million.

By using your networks, connections, and so on; it isn’t hard for anyone to contribute to this event, in one way or another. We aren’t asking for a lot here, just a minute of your day for you to ask yourself how you might be able to help. A little can go a long way when people get together for things like this.

I mentioned in a previous post that the Pan Mass Challenge was going to roll out a new concept called the PMC Paceline. The Paceline was created to replace rider’s profile pages and involve donors in the fundraising efforts. The profile starts with an animated rider (me) riding along to cheering crowds and popular landmarks in the background. When someone makes an online donation, they will create their own rider that will be pedalling along on a tandem bicycle with the existing rider(s). The donor can then customize the appearance of their rider and create their own personal profile. Donors can then direct people to their own profile page to help raise money for the rider that they are supporting.

It seems like they are still working out all the kinks but it’s a really cool idea that I think will make the whole fundraising process more interesting. Unfortunately, it looks like anyone who made a donation before the Paceline was rolled out will not be included as a rider until some time after the ride in August. However, I did hear that if you already made a donation, but would like to be involved in the Paceline, you can make a small donation online, $1 for example, and create your rider from there.

I’d love to get all my existing donors up on the Paceline so I encourage everyone to create their rider profile. My rider looks awefully lonely up there.

Come Join the Paceline!

It isn’t the best quality video, but it certainly drives the point across…These guys are good! Some post-rock instrumental stuff has the tendency to be up its own ass a little bit too much, but Gifts From Enola has a straightforward style that bends from heavy and driving, to beautiful and atmospheric. Not to mention, they have been recently added to the lineup to our “Night To Fight Cancer” event on August 15:

Check out Bostonist today for my recap of the first day of this year’s Scooper Bowl. It’s nice to get away and do a little something different from my usual music and gig reviews .(and even in the course of this blog, discuss something not related to emo every so often!)

For folks in the Boston area, this is a great annual event to attend that also happens to benefit the Jimmy Fund. And for people outside of Boston, well, if you’re the least bit curious what it’s like to have several dozen flavors of free ice cream at your disposal on an unusually chilly day, head over to Bostonist and read on…

Well there go the wheels . i was lucky i was able to pull over ,with no other damage A tow truck arrived and took me to Bridgeport Connecticut

On arriving at the Gas Station the first thing I did was pay the towing bill. I was very stressed out and it was cold out ,I didn’t know what to do. Luckily my Insurance company approved a tow to Stony Creek Virginia, were I knew a mechanic that might help me out .
I called Chester Carter from Carters One Stop In Stony Creek Virginia to tell him my problem and he said as soon as the insurance company paid for the tow he would be on his way I spent my time at Beverly pizza shop down the street. the food wasn’t bad but the counter attendent was a nonstop talker. Finaly after three cold nights with no heat in the rgm and having to listen to beverly pizza’s non stop talker chester arrived. hooking up the rgm to his tow truck we were on our way to virginia on the way to Carters the tow truck was having problems luckily chester was able to fix it and we arrived at carters in the early morning hours.getting the rgm was the next thing on my list and i used my laptop to search for a rear end that would work.I found one in Georgia but chester said he could find one at a better price.
We worked out a deal were i would help around the shop and my food bill at the restaurant he had there and some of the labor for repairs would be deducted. well i spent alot of time on my laptop trying to figure out what i was going to do next .but was always avalible to do work . my friend pat came from Vermont and stopped by on his way to North carolina to visit a friend and he set up a web site for chester in erxchange for a new catilitic converter for his car.I also worked on chesters web site for about 20 hours. It turned out after three weeks that chester couldn’t find a rear end so he took one of a junk camper he had in his auto graveyard

may carter sets up new year buffet

well we had a little party for new years eve my birthday one of the girls made a little cake for me and we celebrated the new year with a big buffet that was put together by may carter chesters mom a nicer person you couldn’t have found .A few days later he gave me a bill for 1,500 dollars which included 100 dollars for food. i questioned him about this and he told me i ate to much. I had no choice but to pay him he knew i was low on cash an offered to take a couple hundred off for my flat screen tv . As i was stuck between a rock and a hard place iIrelented and sold him the tv and was on my way.As i left chester advised me to take it easy on the brakes and make sure i had plenty of space to stop as it was a old camper.
I left carters and made my way to South Boston Virginia.

As soon as I saw her I knew she was mine. I was excited as i left the lot driving Caroline my rollin

As soon as I saw her I knew she was mine. I was excited as i left the lot driving Caroline my rolling green monster. Of course she was not green and she was far from a monster but oh well that would come .The first night I ended up at my friend Scott’s house . He was the one that found Caroline during one of his many trips around Sullivan county working as a convertible bed salesman.

In the morning i awoke and headed for Fenway Park ,Carolines new home.Well I knew she had to be green so i took some chips of paint that had fallen off the green monster and took them to Home Depot.Arriving back on Lansdowne street I started to paint it didn’t take long before I had help from fans walkin by.And before I knew it caroline was green .My next stop was Blik to pick up stencils.Stencils in hand I returned the next day and thru most of the summer painting and repainting parts I was not pleased with . During the summer I did some street preforming to earn money I had a box that I would stand in so i looked like a midget makin tips before games playin little dustin, a policeman came up to me while I was doing my routine and ordered me off the corner so I moved down the street. About a half hour later he was back telling me my vehicle was being towed .

Finding the rgm gone i went to bail her out but they wouldnt release her except to a tow truck so mike sent one and the rgm went back to mikes for repairs after repairs i drove back to fenway to park and in the morning had a ticket for no inspection sticker on my window.so i went to get inspected and failed . It was getting dark and the rgm was acting funny so I pulled into Duff Spring in Medford something that I would live to regret. In the morning I meet Frank Duff and explained my circumstances to him .He told me not to worry before i left Caroline would be in tip top shape.Frank put me to work to take my mind of my troubles and for the next month i swepped and painted and helped out around the shop.during this time the rgm sat out front .with me painting it in my free time to reflect where we were in the playoffs. Thanks to Frank i was able to go down to Lansdowne st. and camp out for tickets. With a loss to the Rays the sox season was over and things started to go downhill at Duff Spring.I didn’t get along with Todd one of Franks workers ,and with the death of Franks mother in law. are arguing was more than Frank could handle. so i was asked to hit the road.not only was no work done on the rgm but i was handed a bill for close to a thousand dollars for storage.and a check for a couple of hundred dollars since I did do work there .Well back to mikes were he put on a new exhaust system and fixed the brakes.
Then it was to Middleboro my home town to get inspected and as luck would have it be in the Christmas parade. Then it was off to McCoy stadium and the first of many accidents.it seems when stadium auto body towed it they broke park.. when I was in the park Caroline rolled into another vehicle.well information was exchanged and nobody was hurt and I went my way and headed up to Maine to continue my tour

Finally, after months of preparation and teasing the event, we are pleased to announce our “A Night To Fight Cancer” event on Saturday August 15. On top of this being an awesome party / concert, all of the proceeds will be going to the Jimmy Fund. Even if you don’t know or enjoy these bands, (and we hope you do!) please try and come down, make a donation, or do whatever you can to help, as the ultimate goal of the event is to raise money for cancer, which has affected everyone in one way or another. If you would like more information or; want to buy tickets, want to help raise funds, want to pick on us, etc… Please contact us at ANightToFightCancer@gmail.com.

PS – We are fully aware that Country Fest is the same day. We aren’t asking those with tickets or planning to get them to skip it, as I hear its a big awesome event, but please see if there is any way you can help us with this event. (Except for my inner circle of friends, for which my threat remains the same.)
