I am a big fan of the Jive SBS IPhone app written by SmallSociety and it’s pointing to two Jive communities.  I use it daily and I really like the geo-location feature, updating my status, and uploading images straight from my iPhone.  You can download it from iTunes if you haven’t already.

Other than some caching glitches, I think the most common issues I’ve seen and heard is “enabling” it.

Common Errors:

1. Secure connections are required.

Use “https”

2.  Could not make a secure connection.

This means your url is wrong.

3.  There was a problem connecting with that server.

This also means your url is wrong.

4.  Unable to Log you in.

This means you’re pointing to the correct url but something else is wrong.

I’m not sure what this is but I think that after enabling group mobile access in the admin console, you need to bounce your app server.  (just a guess)

Enabling Mobile Access in Jive:

1.  Enable Mobile Permissions From the Admin Console.

create a group with mobile access permissions.

2.  Validate if you have mobile access by checking your user profile.

You should see a little iPhone widget on the right-hand side of your user profile.

Ite ohjelmassa tanssiparit arvotaan ja joka viikko sit arvotaan parille myös tanssilaji. Siellä on esim moni b-boy ollu paskat housussa ku arpa on osunu vaikka quickstepin kohalle. Siinä on kyl yks perkele tanssilajiks, huhhuh. Hiki kirpoo otsalle pelkästä kattelusta. Ei ne tuomarit sitä turhaan kutsu termillä “kiss of death”

No juu, mut joka viikko kolme vähiten ääniä saanutta paria joutuu tanssiin vielä soolot ja ekana viitenä viikkona tuomaristo päättää ketkä mies ja nainen tippuu pelistä pois. Mietin pitkään et mikä tekee tästä niin paljon idolsii hienomman formaatin ja tajusin, ettei täs tuu ollenkaan sitä myötähäpeen ja yleisen vitutuksen tunnetta, ja se jos mikä on priceless! Ja tietty varmaan yks tekijä on sekin et tanssin itekin, niin tää kolahti senkin takia ihan täysillä. On toi tanssi vaan hieno liikuntamuoto ja upee taiteenlaji! <3456677

Aparentemente, Britney desligou na cara de Gaga – metaforicamente falando. Piadinhas sem graça à parte, o provável próximo single de Lady GaGa, Telephone, teria sido destinado originalmente ao álbum Circus, de Britney Spears.

Segundo DarkChild e Lady GaGa, no twitter daquele e no vídeo acima, o trabalhos com a canção teriam começado há mais ou menos um ano, só que a gravadora de Spears não permitiu a inclusão da faixa no álbum. Também pudera – o álbum da cantora foi lançado em 28 de Novembro de 2008 e está a um dia de completar o citado ano.

Vamos conferir nos próximos meses como se comporta a canção nas paradas mundiais…

It was confirmed today that Britney Spears will be back with a new album by May of next year, recording starts in January and the album is set to a urban affair ala 2007’s “Blackout”.

 Mostly what’s going through my mind is,  YES about time I loved Blackout so much and to this day I believe its Brit’s best work, funny considering the situation at the time, however also I’m just wondering if perhaps we may get a resurgence of the Britney we once knew who tore up music video’s like “Slave 4 U”, “Boys” and “Toxic”. As of lately I haven’t seen anything which has really wowed me. I just want the best for Brit really I used to love being able to watch a performance and know Brit was gonna dance her ass off, a Janet Jackson/Madonna inspiration If I ever saw one.

*EDIT*: Wouldn’t it be cool if Britney and Ciara collaborated on a  track, better yet a music video.

C’est une note tirée de PSFK qui inspire ce post. Un chercheur travaille actuellement pour Lego afin de comprendre et analyser la manière dont les enfants nomment les briques multicolores. Il apparait en effet que dans chaque foyer propriétaire de Lego, les joueurs inventent un argot facilitant l’appellation de chaque brique, notamment lorsque les constructions sont collectives.

Cette pratique est une des nombreuses illustrations des jargons propres aux communautés : métiers, classes sociales, musiciens, etc. En linguistique, on les appelle des langages vernaculaires. A l’origine, cet adjectif qualifie les caractéristiques propres à un pays ou un groupe de personnes. In extenso, il recouvre également les dérivations de langage utilisées par des catégories de personnes.

Dans le fond, le langage vernaculaire observe un avantage majeur : il joue le rôle de ciment communautaire. Il permet d’identifier ses utilisateurs : untel est charpentier, untel est breton, untel est emo, untel est un nerd…

La capacité des briques Lego a créé du langage vernaculaire est évidemment intéressante, il y a peu de marques qui génèrent un tel effort intellectuel. Certaines parviennent bien à intégrer des gimmicks langagiers dans la vie de tous les jours (“la vie est une question de priorité, “what else?”, etc.) mais peu induisent la création non imposée d’un jargon vernaculaire, clef d’entrée cruciale à la dimension communautaire d’une marque.

Pour la blague, on peut évoquer le klingon, la langue de Star Trek, dont il existe quelques locuteurs fans (quelques uns ont même essayé de l’inculquer naturellement à leurs enfants ou en faire des pubs…).

Pour terminer, il est difficile de passer à côté du langage vernaculaire geek (cf. image d’en-tête), mix d’anglais et de SMS mélangé à la sauce gaming. En voici une sélection de choix :

Celly Cel — “What U Niggaz Thought”

A few nights ago, I read through the latest spat between veteran blogger Noz and his (perceived) critical nemesis Jeff Weiss with a great deal of interest, though not at all for the music in question. You see, I’m sure Pill and Freddie Gibbs are talented rappers, but the truth is I feel no desire whatsoever to explore their “catalog” by downloading one of the gazillion mixtapes they’ve released for free. That’s just not how I’ve grown up listening to music. In fact, every time I hear someone complain about how mixtapes aren’t afforded the same critical respect as albums, or suggest that rap critics spend eight hours a day keeping up with the constant flood of free internet music (seriously Noz, is that your life?), I want to smash my computer with a bat and curse the internet for irreversibly ruining rap music. You see, before purchasing music became the sole domain of collectors and altruists, the same “gritty” and “uncompromising” qualities so prized in Pill and Gibbs could be found on any number of major label releases, many of which sold incredibly well without making any mainstream concessions. It wasn’t necessary to flood the worldwide web to create a buzz; on the contrary, one could scan a lot of fucking records without looking much further than his own coast or region. Nowadays, however, that approach is extinct, and artists like Pill and Gibbs have no choice but to court national attention through the internet. Which upsets “street-minded” bloggers, who don’t want to share their artists with anyone as white as themselves (certainly not readers of The New Yorker and The Times), evokes ambivalence in the few of us who still prefer our music in concrete form, and only wins fans among people who, should an album ever be released, will surely download it for free anyway (a la most of The Passion’s commenters.) All the while, we know that if a major label does take notice (which has to be these rappers’ end goal) it’ll erase any of the individuality that made them appealing in the first place, since the old stick-with-the-formula approach (think Too $hort and E-40 on Jive) is just no longer commercially viable.

So what’s an artist to do? Fuck if I know. The game is fucked up, in a real way. But let’s remember a time when it wasn’t. A time when an unapolagetically regional rapper—from Vallejo of all places—was able to move well over 400K copies of his sophomore album, all while remaining virtually unknown outside the Bay Area (and, apparently, Seattle.) No, I’m not talking about E-40, or even Mac Dre. In those fruitful days, even a tiny city like Vallejo could boast multiple major-label emcees, of which Celly Cel, signed to 40’s Sick Wid It/Jive imprint, was merely one.

Celly Cel — “Remember Where You Came From”

Stylistically indebted to his mentor, Celly Cel nonetheless lacked much of E-40’s humor and personality, but on Killa Kali he benefits from some of the best straight-up mobb production of any Bay Area release I’ve heard. While Mike Mosley and Sam Bostic (of “Sprinkle Me” fame) are conspicuously absent, and Studio Ton contributes only one track, producer Ken Franklin follows their blueprint to great effect on the majority of the album’s tracks, with Tone Capone (The Luniz’ “I Got Five On It”) and Kevin Gardner and Redwine (40’s “Smoke ‘N Drank’”) taking care of the rest. The result is an aural snapshot of Bay Area rap circa 1996, blessed with a major label budget but free from the creative pressures that cripple artists on majors today. With the exceptions of fellow Bay Area rappers E-40 and B-Legit on “4 Tha Scrilla” and Spice 1 on “Redrum,” Killa Kali contains no features, while its single, the creeping “It’s Goin’ Down” would’ve been lucky to garner a single spin on New York radio. And yet Killa Kali, in all its mobbed-out, Bay Area glory, damn near went gold, a feat increasingly rare for any artist in this era of Nahright and Rapidshare links. So while I’m grateful to the internet for allowing me to share my opinions with the world, I also recognize the damage it’s done to the genre I love so much. Which is perhaps why I’d rather dig out a fully-realized, uncompromising album from 1996 than listen to whichever online mixtape is hot at the moment, or, even worse, the latest watered down mush to come out on a major label. The game done changed, I know, but I’ll be damned if I’m gonna change with it.

Just heard a preview of Chris Brown’s new LP “Graffiti” which so far I’m really liking, some quality tracks on there and like i keep saying Chris has really matured as an artist exploring new sounds and taking new directions with his music. To add the CD will be  2 Discs and the UK will have 2 extra trakcs “Girlfriend” and “Chase Our Love” and as usual we always get things one day before the US so we will get it on the 7th instead of the 8th.

Short and sweet today. I’m really quite annoyed with the all the goddamn Christmas ads, sales, etc. that are all ready all over the place.

Despite my misanthropic tendencies, I’m really kind of a softie in some ways. I like the holidays. I do.

But this time of year has been kind of tainted, for me, by all the commercialism. Even those of you out there who possess the unending optimism I enjoy frowning upon know this to be true.

I know. I’m beating this HTC commercial thing into the ground. I just like it. Really like it. More than I like most people. For those of you wondering what song is actually playing, it’s a remix of “Sinnerman” by Nina Simone. One of the comments on YouTube simply reads, “Futureproof.” Sums it up.

GALLIMAUFRY

→ Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Palin were on the same stage and no one thought to do the proper thing and plant explosives. Christ, people, do I have to think of everything?

→ In what’s becoming sadly commonplace, another celebrity has died young. Ken Ober, the host of the late-80s MTV game show “Remote Control,” passed away yesterday at the age of 52. As of yet, no one’s sure how.

→ All right, on a personal note, here’s a picture of my favorite piece of art – “Woman with a Water Jug” by Johannes Vermeer. It’s only 18 in. by 16 in. The detail is amazing. Best part is that the painting currently resides in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

After living in London for over 20 years, I am moving to the coast.  After two years on the market, I finally sold my house.  I have always wanted to live beside or near the sea and now that will finally happen.  After more than 20 years, I am exchanging the sound of the planes flying over my house at the crack of dawn to the sound of seabirds at a more reasonable hour.

What does that mean for London Tango?  Well, it just means that I won’t be dancing much in London.  I haven’t been dancing much these last six months as I have either been working or spending weekends at the coast.  I am still keeping up the blog and will still be posting Special Events.  London isn’t far, so I might make a trip up to the big city now and again.  Besides, it’s where I learned to dance and love Argentine Tango.  I have made a lot of friends that I am going to miss.  So when I come up to visit, the evening will be even more special.

Life may change, but Tango goes on.  I am going to explore the Tango scene in Brighton and Hove.  There is no Tango where I live.  It takes as long to drive to Brighton as it did for me to drive to Holborn or Chalk Farm or Tufnell Park.  Maybe even less time.  At some point, I will add a Dance Calendar for Brighton, Eastbourne and Hove.  As the Argentine Tango scene is not as extensive as in London, the calendar will also incorporate Salsa and Ceroc/LeRoc/Jive.  I have already danced LeRoc in Eastbourne.  Tomorrow I will be dancing Salsa (my first dance before Tango).  I am already acquainted with people in my new ‘home town’.  That is the beauty of dance.  Dancing brings like-minded people together.  One doesn’t ever have to be alone.  Having a few different dance forms under my belt means that I can travel pretty much anywhere and find some dancing and make new friends.

I have a lot to do with my move and finding a place to live, so I may not be posting as regularly as I had been.  There is still more of Ask Arlene on the burner and I am regularly updating Special Events and the Calendar.

Ok, so I’m not gonna lie, with all the Rihanna things happening today I kinda forgot about Chris, but I’m liking his video though, nothing proper special but its ok, very christmasy and Cassie looks slick as usual (loves it).

In general though I think the vid’s ok, seeing some Michael Jackson esq poses at the end, which is aight, but ugh! a bit corny everyone’s doing it these days. I know Chris was heavily inspired by him but he doesnt need that anymore, he’s matured so much as an artist I feel he’s got his own identity in this industry, so dance wise I’d like him to build on that more.
