Hey Look! Dwight Howard has a type!

Packaging giant Tetra Pak has announced that it will undertake a trial of a green plastic made from sugarcane.  Today’s news release said Tetra Pak will purchase limited volumes of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) derived from sugarcane feedstock. The companies say this is “the first move toward using green polyethylene in the carton packaging industry.”

Braskem, one of the world’s leading petrochemical companies, will be producing green polyethylene at a commercial-scale plant in the second half of 2010. The announcement indicated Braskem would “begin supplying Tetra Pak with 5 Ktons per year of green HDPE from 2011, for use in the production of plastic caps and closures.” Earlier this year, Braskem announced that it would be supplying Johnson & Johnson with its green plastics for its Sundown brand of comestic products.

Braskem’s green plastic factory will use ethanol derived from sugarcane to produce ethylene, which will then be converted into polyethylene, the world’s most commonly used plastic. According to Braskem, this new polymer, while made 100% renewable raw materials, “has the same appearance and properties of traditional plastics in the final product, the difference is that it can capture CO2 from the atmosphere, i.e. one ton of green resin captures 2.5 tons of CO2.”

Popular teen-themed channel 4 television show Skins is due to begin broadcasting its fourth series in January 2010. The show, which began broadcasting on digital station E4 in 2007, has built up a large number of devoted fans. Every two years the cast is replaced with a new set of core characters. About A Boy star Nicholas Hoult starred in the first series as Tony Stonem. The new series will be the last featuring the current cast, which includes Kaya Scodelario as Effy Stonem. There will be eight episodes in the new series. The show is also a hit in the states where an American version, set in Baltimore, is currently in development. A big screen version may also soon be made as it was announced, in May 2009, that Film4 and Skins production company, Company Pictures, are in preliminary talks about producing one. I’m looking forward to the new series and will be disappointed if it proves to be the last one they make. Det er vel på tide å fortelle litt igjen.

På vei hjem fra jobb i går ettermiddag får jeg en telefon. Jeg ser på nummeret at det er fra Toten et sted, men for meg var det ukjent. Da er det ganske koselig når det er Maja som sitter i andre enden og lurer på hva som er planen for kvelden! Og enda bedre at hun hiver seg på toget og kommer på besøk… Fordi hun har lyst til å spille biljard og dra på pub. Flaks for meg at vi har pub med biljardbord rett i nærheten – o’store O’Reillys leverer som vanlig.

Maja gjør seg klar for det som ble dagens beste slag.

Maja tok et bak ryggen-slag… og traff så det sang! Men jeg vant til slutt, fordi hun slo ned åtteren. Hæhæ!

Fonøyd med dagens innsats gikk vi videre til Blå, der JJ hadde konsert. Maja ville heller stikke til Samfunnet på Bislet for å Møte frk. Ballangrud, men jeg hadde plasspå gjestelista thanks to Birgit, så jeg ble igjen, og angret ikke et sekund. Jeg  er ingen racer på sjangertilhørighet, så jeg sliter litt med å plassere JJ. Det egnet seg i allefall bra live. Bandet, hvis en kan kalle det det, bestod av ei jente som sang, og en fyr som spilte musikken via en Mac. Sceneshowet var heller rolig, og av det koselige slaget, men publikum fikk likevel kjenne at det rykket i dansefoten.

På storskjerm i bakgrunnen ble det vist musikkvideoer og andre spennende snutter. Pent!

Etter konserten var det fullblods diskotek igjen. Det måtte vi desverrer stå over fordi dagen i dag er fullstappet av oppgaver og jobbings. I grunn like greit. Maja fant heller aldri frk. Ballangrud, så hun kom til slutt tilbake. “Jeg sitter på en krakk utenfor” var meldinga . Da var det på tide å si god natt.

High school and college. God, how I miss them already. Now I’m 22, In fucking Korea, and I work a nine to five.

Sometimes, all I want is to be splayed out next to the warm lake back home with my high school boyfriend. Or pummeling down highway 71 with my brother in his Supra. Or smoking cigarettes in stretches of desert with friends.

The angsty pain and adrenaline associated with those year is tied, inextricably, the the music I listened to.  It’s sad that this decade –  and formative chapter of life – is closing. These may not be the best albums of the 2000’s, but they’re my best albums.

2001 - Hedwig and the Angry Inch OST.

 #1)   My dad gave me this movie when I was in high school, but I never appreciated it fully until, at 17,  the first boy who dumped me forced me to watch it one January under his covers. Whenever I’ve broken up with boys, I always find myself driving through neighborhoods singing “Origin of Love.” The soundtrack is  a full-blooded, raw, sincere ode to love in its many, many forms.

2003 - Erland Oye, Unrest

#2)  Electronica music helped to build the foundation for my music appreciation, and no album (or artist) had a greater impact on me than Erlend Oye. After the death of trance/house, Oye  pumped new blood into the genre: an album that was organized, subtle, and minimal, capturing the autumnal isolation of Nordic life and blending it with restless, steady energy in modern pop.  I am in love with this man.

2004 - Animal Collective - Sung Tongs

 #3)  I blame Animal Collective for the fact that I dressed like a Native American stuck in 1970 in college. I blame them for all the weed I smoked, too.  Sung Tongs wasn’t like anything I’d every heard:   It was primitive, sensual almost, like a wild animal you could hear through headphones. They were, and still are, one of the only bands with a distinct, inimitable  style to emerge after 2000.

2006 - Joanna Newsom - Ys.

 #4) God, what the hell is that?

My first impression of Joanna Newsom, mewling and shrieking to the velvety crescendo of a harp. But her childlike lyrics and nymphette demeanor infected me, badly. Ys was a weighty album, each song a storybook. Newsom was a role model to me, so small, so powerful.

2002 - Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People

 #5 I almost can’t listen to this album. If I do, I’m transported back to high school. I’m still crying over Jeff Holman. I’m still drunk at an anime convention.  I’m playing Tetris in the hallway. I’m still sitting in a truck bed after marching band practice. I still have black hair and fake glasses and low self esteem. I still want everyone to notice me so badly, my skin hurts. It’s an Anthem for a 17 Year Old Girl.

2000 - Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica

 #6  Like BSS, It’s hard for me to shake the memories any Modest Mouse album dregs up.

The Moon and Antarctica is maybe the point when Isaac Brock went off the deep end, droning on darkly like chubbier Thom Yorke in a denser mood. But Modest Mouse transformed and adapted with this album.

Just as life was really getting bleak at 16, so was Modest Mouse. Serendipity?

2002 - Chemical Brothers - Come With US

#7) Dear Cooper: Thanks for showing me one of the greatest albums ever. I remember the poster you had in your room, and the way it sounded through the speakers in your car that I accidentally melted lard all over. It makes my ribcage shake, my heart undulate, my blood go fast, my head turn to stars, my emotions ebb and swell.  It’s a brother and a sister, at 90 mph, 110 bmps.

2001 - Daft Punk - Discovery

#8 It’s not that Daft Punk made every sucessful  dance party that I ever threw. It’s that Daft Punk made me want to dance.

I could never dance in high school. I was too busy thinking people were watching me. Discovery was so good, my body told me it was a crime not to move. And it did. And it still does.

2007 - LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver

#9 This is the end of college. Like angst coincided with Isaac Brock, so fear does with James Murphey.

For me, SOS is about fear. Fear of getting old, fear of losing your friends, fear of failure, fear of being too late. And as a lot of those things happened to me towards the end of college, I held onto this.

2009 - jj - JJ N 2

#10 No one knows about, much less appreciates JJ. If this album were a color, it would be a frost covered, cobalt-blue.

Maybe I found this album right before I biked across Germany, and it lays a soundtrack for first seeing the world.  Maybe its dynamism is what appeals to me. I’m not sure sometimes. But it’s never leaving me.

Agência que nasceu para criar projetos diferenciados de comunicação, a Babel comemora nesta próxima sexta-feira (20) o ponto alto da série “Toque de Mãe”, da linha Johnson’s Baby, com a apresentação de um parto real. A exibição será na TV Record, durante o programa Hoje em Dia. “É uma nova e pioneira experiência de propaganda colaborativa criada pelas histórias de reais consumidores”, diz Reginaldo Ferrante, sócio-diretor da Babel. O público que acompanha a série poderá assistir o parto de Beatriz, segunda filha de Gabriela, uma das protagonistas da série. “O interessante é que esse novo formato abre mão do merchandising tradicional. Conseguimos levar conteúdo de interesse para nossos consumidores, baseados em experiências reais”, comenta Christina Larroude, gerente de marketing de Johnson’s Baby. A série foi idealizada pelo anunciante em parceria com a Babel e produzida pela Bossa Nova Films. As experiências abordam a rotina da vida de um bebê, como banho, massagem, troca de fralda e hora de dormir, sendo que cada um desses momentos tem a participação de um produto dessa linha Bebê da Johnson & Johnson. “Toque de mãe” é composta por 14 episódios, com dois minutos cada, apresentados semanalmente. Os episódios exibem a rotina de quatro mulheres e seus filhos. A escolha das personagens foi baseada no resultado de entrevistas com 98 mães de várias regiões de São Paulo.
